Titans | Four signed to Reserve/Future deals Mon Jan 5, 04:21 PM
Free-agent WR Hal Presley (Titans), WR Xavier Restrepo (Titans), RB Blake Watson and TE Joel Wilson (Titans) signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Tennessee Titans Monday, Jan. 5. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyCardinals owner Michael Bidwill confirmed that General Manager Monti Ossenfort will be leading the search for the team's next head coach during a Monday press conference, and Ossenfort weighed in on another major offseason decision later in the session. Quarterback Kyler Murray missed the final 12 games of the season with a foot injury, and there was plenty of speculation during the season that he had played his final game as a Cardinal. During Monday's press conference, Ossenfort noted that Murray remains under contract and said that all options are on the table for what the team will do at the position in the future.
Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com suggested, the identity of the next head coach will obviously have a bearing on what direction the Cardinals choose to go. Murray's contract guarantees him over $39 million in 2026, and keeping him on the roster through the fifth day of the new league year will add another $19.5 million in guarantees for 2027. Moving on from Murray would also require the Cardinals to find another starter (or stick with Jacoby Brissett, who replaced Murray), so choosing the next coach is only the start of a busy offseason for Ossenfort and the Cardinals.

Free-agent WR Dontae Fleming (Vikings), WR Joaquin Davis (Vikings), WR Jeshaun Jones (Vikings) and TE Bryson Nesbit (Vikings) signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Minnesota Vikings Monday, Jan. 5. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Ja'Corey Brooks (Commanders) and WR Jacoby Jones (Commanders) signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Washington Commanders Monday, Jan. 5. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storySan Francisco 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall (knee) recently aggravated the posterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee and will be reevaluated later in the week, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Footballguys view: Pearsall's situation has remained tenuous since he returned from a right knee injury in Week 11. He reinjured his ankle and knee in Week 15 against Tennessee, missed the following week against Indianapolis, and then returned last week against Chicago. Saturday was Pearsall's eighth missed game. For the season, he had 36 receptions for 528 yards. He had four catches for 108 yards in the Week 1 meeting with Seattle. Kendrick Bourne and Demarcus Robinson move up in the rotation behind Jauan Jennings in Pearsall's absence. That will continue as needed.
Cincinnati Bengals DE Isaiah Foskey, LB Joe Giles-Harris, TE Cam Grandy, LB Shaka Heyward, S PJ Jules and WR Mitchell Tinsley signed one-year contract extensions with the Bengals Monday, Jan. 5. Financial terms were not disclosed.

San Francisco 49ers LB Fred Warner (ankle) has not been ruled out for the season, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said Warner will not be a possible option until the NFC Championship game at the earliest.
Footballguys view: The 49ers are suddenly thin at linebacker. Warner hasn't played since dislocating and fracturing his right ankle in Week 6, and his replacement, Tatum Bethune, is now out for the season after tearing his groin in the Week 18 loss to the Seahawks. Shanahan said Bethune might need surgery. Eric Kendricks will now take over. Linebackers Dee Winters (ankle) and Luke Gifford (quad) will be evaluated later this week.

San Francisco 49ers WR Jacob Cowing (hamstring) is expected to have his 21-day practice window opened this week, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Footballguys view: Cowing injured his hamstring in the preseason and went on injured reserve. The 49ers drafted Cowing in the fourth round in 2024, and he caught four passes for 80 yards in 15 games as a rookie, while averaging 8.8 yards on 28 punt returns. The 49ers could use the help at the position, with Brandon Aiyuk having missed the season, and with Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings, and Jordan Watkins having missed time with injuries.
San Francisco 49ers LB Tatum Bethune (groin) will not play again this season because of a groin injury, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Footballguys view: Bethune may need surgery, but Shanahan said that no decision has been made on that front. Bethune started in eight of his 14 appearances this season. He had 94 tackles, four tackles for loss, and a sack in those contests. The 49ers have left the door open for Fred Warner to return later in the postseason, but he likely won't be ready to face the Eagles this week. They're also evaluating injuries to Dee Winters and Luke Gifford, which leaves Eric Kendricks, Garret Wallow, and Curtis Robinson as the current healthy linebackers for the Niners.
Free-agent TE Sal Cannella (Browns), WR Luke Floriea (Browns), RB Ahmani Marshall (Browns) and TE Caden Prieskorn (Browns) signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Cleveland Browns Monday, Jan. 5. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyFree-agent RB Ulysses Bentley IV (Colts), QB Seth Henigan (Colts), TE Sean McKeon (Colts), WR Coleman Owen (Colts) and WR Eli Pancol (Colts) signed Reserve/Future contracts with the Indianapolis Colts Monday, Jan. 5. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Indianapolis Colts LB Austin Ajiake signed a one-year contract extension with the Colts Monday, Jan. 5. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyNew York Giants WR Malik Nabers (knee) said he is not sure if he will be ready for the start of the 2026 regular season and it will depend on how his body feels leading up to the game.
Footballguys view: Nabers said he had "a lot messed up in my knee, which I was told was successfully operated on." He did not need a second surgery. Nabers has not decided where he'll rehab -- New York, in Dallas, where he underwent surgery, at home in Louisiana, or somewhere else. He said the foot injury that he dealt with last offseason has healed. Nabers has 127 catches for 1,475 yards and nine touchdowns in 19 career games. With a coaching change coming, Nabers' progress is something we'll be watching closely over the coming weeks.
Los Angeles Rams WR Davante Adams (hamstring) is expected to be available for the Wild Card playoff game, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: It seems that making sure to get Adams healthy for the postseason has been a priority. It also appears the mission is accomplished. Adams has been sidelined since aggravating a hamstring injury in Los Angeles' Dec. 14 victory over Detroit. Though he played just 14 games this season, Adams still finished with a league-leading 14 touchdowns, having caught 60 passes for 789 yards.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa indicated that he is open to playing for a different team next season.
Footballguys view: When Tagovailoa was benched following a Dec. 15 loss to the Steelers, it seemed likely his time in Miami was coming to an end. Asked on Monday if he was hoping for a fresh start, Tagovailoa said, "That would be dope. I would be good with it." Tagovailoa is owed $54 million guaranteed in 2026. He could be released with a post-June 1 designation at the start of the new league year to split his $99.2 million cap charge over two years. Mike McDaniels' return as HC would all but guarantee Tua's departure. We'll watch for more on all this.

Dallas Cowboys CB DaRon Bland (foot) is scheduled to undergo foot surgery next week but should be ready for the 2026 season.
Footballguys view: Bland does not expect the recovery to limit him in offseason workouts and OTAs. He suffered a left foot fracture during 2024's training camp, just after a breakout 2023 season that saw Bland set a new NFL record for most interceptions returned for touchdown in a single season. That sidelined him until Week 12 following surgery in 2024. The Cowboys then signed Bland to a four-year contract extension worth $92 million ($50 million guaranteed) in August, but the foot issues persisted. He missed the final three games this year and finished the season with one interception.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Titans have started that process by requesting an interview with Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. The Titans will be able to hold an initial interview with Nagy later this week.
Footballguys view: Nagy has been linked to the opening in Tennessee since Brian Callahan was fired early in the regular season. He has previous head coaching experience, and he worked with Titans G.M. Mike Borgonzi when Borgonzi was in the Chiefs' organization. In addition to Nagy, the Titans have requested interviews with Broncos DC Vance Joseph, Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo, and Colts DC Lou Anarumo. They are expected to add Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury to the list. We'll be watching for more.
Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward (shoulder) suffered an AC joint sprain in his shoulder in the season finale and will not require surgery.
Footballguys view: The No. 1 pick of the 2025 draft, Ward started all 17 games of his rookie campaign. He gained momentum as the season went on. Ward finished the season having completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,169 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. He did not throw a pick in any of his last four starts and threw only one in his previous nine starts. He threw multiple TD passes in four of his last five. The Titans have started searching for their next head coach, who will be charged with getting the most out of Ward's development.
San Francisco 49ers director of football operations Josh Z. Williams has been sought after for an interview by the Miami Dolphins for their general manager vacancy.
Footballguys view: In addition to Williams, the first set of names includes 49ers vice president of player personnel Tariq Ahmad, Eagles assistant G.M. Alec Halaby, Rams assistant G.M. John McKay, and Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan. As Profootballtalk.com noted, Halaby, Sullivan, and Williams have made the interview rounds in recent years, and all five candidates work for teams that have been regulars in the playoffs in recent seasons. The Dolphins have missed the postseason the last two years and would like their eventual hire to have a hand in ending that drought.
Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon was fired Monday, Jan. 5.
Footballguys view: Arizona finished 3-14 this season, bringing Gannon's record to 15-36 in his three seasons as the Cardinals' head coach. He never reached the playoffs while also never finishing higher than third in the NFC West. Arizona went 4-13 in 2023 to finish last in the division and 8-9 last season to finish third. Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort was retained and will spearhead the search for a new head coach.
Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll was fired Monday, Jan. 5.
Footballguys view: The team fired the 74-year-old coach after it went 3-14 this season, which ended with a 14-12 win over the Chiefs on Sunday. Before the game, Las Vegas had lost 10 straight and already had wrapped up the No. 1 selection in the 2026 NFL draft. Raiders owner Mark Davis said in a statement that GM John Spytek, who was hired along with Carroll last year, will lead football operations with minority owner Tom Brady, including the search for the team's next coach. We'll be following up in coming days.
New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen will return in 2026.
Footballguys view: Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch said in a statement Monday that they are prioritizing "continuity and stability" in the front office, calling it "important to our progress." New York (4-13) has the fifth pick in the 2026 NFL draft after winning its final two games. Their last two draft classes appear promising (with Jaxson Dart, Malik Nabers, Abdul Carter, Cam Skattebo, and Tyrone Tracy Jr.), seemingly guiding the decision to retain Schoen. "We believe in our young core of talent, which we can build around for future success," Mara and Tisch said in their statement Monday.
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor and general manager Duke Tobin will return in 2026.
Footballguys view: The Bengals missed the playoffs for the third straight season as franchise quarterback Joe Burrow missed nine games with turf toe, finishing 6-11. In seven seasons, Taylor has had two playoff appearances (2021, 2022) and is the only coach in franchise history to make multiple appearances in the conference championship game. With 116 games, he's the third-longest-tenured coach in franchise history. In seven years, Taylor has an overall record of 52-63-1 during the regular season and 5-2 in the postseason. Reports have suggested Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins all advocated for Taylor's return.

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was fired Monday, Jan. 5.
Footballguys view: The Browns also announced that Andrew Berry, who arrived in Cleveland with Stefanski in 2020, will remain as general manager. Cleveland finished the 2025 season with a 5-12 record, their second straight last-place finish in the AFC North, and their fourth losing season under Stefanski. During his six seasons, the Browns used an NFL-high 13 starting quarterbacks, who ranked in the bottom five in completion percentage and threw an NFL-high 98 interceptions. That's an issue that must be resolved before any coach is going to have success in Cleveland. We'll have more on the coming search as it plays out.

The Indianapolis Colts lost their final seven games to complete a historic collapse after an 8-2 start. But the team's ownership has decided not to make significant changes, with the Colts announcing less than three hours after a season-ending loss to the Houston Texans that general manager Chris Ballard and coach Shane Steichen will return for the 2026 season.
Footballguys view: There had been speculation about the pair's futures given the Colts' recent track record, with the team having not won the AFC South since 2014 and missing the playoffs for five straight seasons. But organizationally, the Colts are moving forward steadfastly with a firm plan. The intent is to retain injured quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones will be a free agent in March but is expected to be re-signed. Ownership, led by CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon, has endorsed the plan in recent weeks. Irsay-Gordon will address reporters Monday, according to the Colts.
Dolphins rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers appears to have avoided a worst-case outcome following a knee injury in the Week 18 finale against the Patriots.
Footballguys view: Ewers went down in the fourth quarter with Miami trailing 38-10. It immediately sparked concern, given the non-contact nature of the play. However, head coach Mike McDaniel offered cautious optimism after the game, revealing the initial evaluation showed a "stable knee" and "not what people would fear." That was a notable sigh of relief for a franchise already staring at a pivotal offseason with many questions -- including head coach and QB.
Philadelphia Eagles OT Lane Johnson (foot) is expected to return to action in the team's Wild Card Round game versus the San Francisco 49ers, according to a source. Johnson has been sidelined since suffering a foot injury in Week 11.
Link to storyWashington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury may not return for a third season in his current post - regardless of whether he lands another job first - according to a source.
Footballguys view: While he's already been requested for an interview with the Titans, the reports began Saturday morning, when The Athletic reported that Washington has had internal conversations about potentially moving on from Kingsbury even without a head-coaching offer, citing a possible disconnect with general manager Adam Peters. Another source familiar with Washington's internal dynamics told longtime Commanders reporter Ben Standig the situation was "Intriguing theater." We'll be following this one closely, but it won't be surprising if Kingsbury is a candidate for multiple openings.

Seattle Seahawks OT Charles Cross reportedly agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension worth $104.4 million on Sunday, Jan. 4. The deal will reportedly pay Cross $40.5 million in 2026 and is the richest contract given to a non-quarterback in franchise history.
Link to storyCleveland Browns TE David Njoku told reporters following the team's Week 18 win against the Cincinnati Bengals that he would like to remain with the team even as he is set to become a free agent this offseason.
Footballguys view: "I do (want to return to Cleveland), but it's not up to me," the 29-year-old said. Njoku has played 118 games, caught 384 catches for 4,062 yards with 34 touchdowns -- all as a member of the Browns, who drafted him in the first round in 2017. The team took a chance on a tight end with hopes that he could be a pivotal member of the offense for years to come. While the Browns fired HC Kevin Stefanski Monday, GM Andrew Berry will remain. That could work in Njoku's favor, although the emergence of Harold Fannin Jr. does not.

Retired and former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan - now working as an analyst for CBS Sports - is being strongly considered for a high-profile, front-office role with the team, according to multiple sources. Baltimore Ravens WR Zay Flowers caught four passes (on six targets) for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns during the team's Week 18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Footballguys view: As CBSSports.com pointed out, Zay Flowers saved his best for last, delivering his top fantasy outing of the season in Week 18. The 24-year-old scored multiple touchdowns in a game for the first time in 2025, capping off a breakout campaign in style. He set new career highs across the board -- 86 catches, 1,211 yards-- and his recent surge (five touchdowns over the last four games) pushed him to six total scores, matching his rookie total. Flowers will head into a contract year in 2026 as the Ravens' clear-cut No. 1 receiver, a role that comes with plenty of fantasy appeal.
