Footballguys view: Head coach Dan Campbell had said that he wasn't sure if LaPorta's injury would linger into the regular season. But LaPorta took part in individual and team drills on Tuesday. LaPorta caught 40 passes for 489 yards with three touchdowns in 2025. He missed much of the season due to a back injury. He is currently being drafted as TE6, ahead of Kyle Pitts and Harold Fannin Jr.

Link to storyDetroit Lions TE Sam LaPorta (hip) has missed practice on Wednesday, Aug. 19, but the team feels good about his health longterm, according to head coach Dan Campbell.
Footballguys view: They can feel good about his health, but there's still no word on whether LaPorta will be ready for Week 1. He could be ready, but Campbell says he's not sure. That's not exactly the ringing endorsement Fantasy GMs want to hear with fantasy football drafts going hot and heavy this month. As they say in Mad Men, "not great Bob" as LaPorta is coming off a back surgery that cut his 2025 season short and now has a preseason injury. His current ADP is TE10 (8.04) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Detroit Lions TE Miles Kitselman (undisclosed) was waived from the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Aug. 11, after the two sides reached an injury settlement.
Link to storyDetroit Lions TE Sam LaPorta has impressed in training camp. QB Jared Goff found LaPorta down the left seam for a big gain down to the nine-yard line Tuesday, Aug. 10. The next play was a touchdown pass to LaPorta over the middle, which has been common throughout camp. 'He had a good play down the field (Monday) on third down and he's a stud,' Goff said. 'He's the same guy every day and continues to get better like they all do and got to find ways to give him the ball.'
Footballguys view: LaPorta is a low-end TE1 for Fantasy GMs as per usual. So long as he can stay healthy after an injury-shortened 2025 season, LaPorta should pay off for those who draft him. He's got a current ADP of TE11 (8.06) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Detroit Lions RB Isiah Pacheco (knee) suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament.
Footballguys view: Head coach Dan Campbell suggested Pacheco will miss some time. Campbell said he expects Pacheco to return before Detroit's Week 1 home contest against the New Orleans Saints and that he's "not concerned" about the injury. Expect Pacheco to remain the top backup to Jahmyr Gibbs. Pacheco's primary competition for snaps behind Gibbs, Sione Vaki, is currently sidelined by a broken nose.

Detroit Lions C Cade Mays (wrist) suffered a wrist injury, and head coach Dan Campbell said Mays will miss a significant amount of time.
Footballguys view: A source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that Mays fractured a small bone in his wrist that is expected to sideline him roughly eight to 10 weeks. Without Mays, the Lions are expected to try Juice Scruggs at center as they attempt to find the best fit at the position before the season opener against New Orleans on Sept. 13. According to Footballguys offensive line analyst Matt Bitonti, the loss of Mays drops Detroit from 16th to 19th in his O-line rankings. Bitonti added that Scruggs might be a slightly better run blocker than Mays.
Detroit Pistons Sports & Entertainment CEO Richard Haddad was named as the team president and CEO of the Detroit Lions, succeeding the retiring Ron Wood. Haddad will join the team in early September and assume oversight of all football and business operations of the Lions' organization.

Free-agent QB Josh Dobbs (Patriots) signed a one-year, $1.425 million deal Sunday, Aug. 9, with $475,000 fully guaranteed, national beat writers Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport reported. The team moved quickly to add Dobbs after QB Teddy Bridgewater surprisingly elected to retire Sunday.
Footballguys view: Dobbs has experience under Lions offensive coordinator Drew Petzing when they were together in Arizona, so this should be a smooth transition in the wake of Bridgewater's unforeseen decision to retire.
Detroit Lions CB D.J. Reed (groin) suffered a groin injury in practice, but head coach Dan Campbell said Sunday, Aug. 9, that the injury is not considered serious. 'We feel good about that. When he's ready, he'll be ready to go,' Campbell said.

Detroit Lions QB Teddy Bridgewater has 'decided to step away' from the team, according to head coach Dan Campbell on Sunday, Aug. 9. He is apparently considering retirement from the NFL at age 33. He was set to be the team's primary backup to QB Jared Goff. Now, QB Tom Kennedy will get a longer look, starting the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 13, against the Cincinnati Bengals. Three-time Pro-Bowl selection Jahmyr Gibbs and the Lions reached agreement today on a three-year, $67.5 million deal that could be worth up to $75.75 million and includes $51.5 million guaranteed, now making him the NFL's highest-paid running back.
Footballguys view: Bijan Robinson and Jonathan Taylor getting news deals seemed likely to generate some movement in Detroit, and here we are. Gibbs set a career-high with 320 touches and played the most snaps of his three-year career in 2025. This year, the arrival of new OC Drew Petzing and the departure of RB David Montgomery put Gibbs in position to do even more. He is one of the league's most dangerous playmakers in one of its most prolific offenses. Already going with the first pick overall in drafts this year, getting back to work will lend further confidence in Gibbs' ADP.

Detroit Lions RB Sione Vaki (nose) will miss time after suffering a broken nose during practice Monday, Aug. 3, according to head coach Dan Campbell. 'We think he'll be OK,' Campbell said. 'He's just gonna need a minute here. It's just one of those freak things.'
Footballguys view: Vaki hasn't been able to stay on the field enough to push Isiah Pacheco for snaps behind Jahmyr Gibbs yet. This injury shouldn't affect Vaki for long, but it still solidifies Pacheco's status as the #2 running back after some speculated that Vaki could threaten his hold on the job.
