Raiders | Geno Smith would attract interest if released Sun Mar 1, 11:48 AM
Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith is expected to attract interest from multiple NFL teams this offseason if he is released, according to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano. Las Vegas Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty can't fix the running game on his own, according to head coach Klint Kubiak. 'Very excited about Jeanty's talent, but the thing I would tell him and all his teammates is that it's not just about one guy,' Kubiak said. 'We gotta get the line on the same page, we gotta get our quarterback to get the right run checks. We gotta get our receivers to block for him, alright, so that we can get the play-action going. As soon as our players can realize that it's a team thing, it's not an individual thing, we're gonna be successful.'
Link to storyLas Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak stated in his introductory press conference on Wednesday, Feb. 11, that he would call the offensive plays for the Raiders in the 2026 NFL season. Kubiak called plays for the New Orleans Saints in 2024 as offensive coordinator, and then for the Seattle Seahawks last season en route to their Super Bowl victory before taking the head coaching job in Las Vegas.

Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza is an ideal fit for the Las Vegas Raiders and new head coach Klint Kubiak's system, in the opinion of ESPN's Field Yates. According to Yates, Mendoza displayed elite accuracy and arm talent to throw to all levels of the field. He improved his pocket awareness and excelled in clutch moments. Mendoza brings a strong frame and in-pocket mobility with enough creativity to handle duress, and his quick-processing skills point to a successful starting quarterback.

After earning a Super Bowl victory, Klint Kubiak is officially on his way to Las Vegas. The Seahawks' offensive coordinator was mum about reports that he would be the next Raiders head coach, saying during Super Bowl week that he was solely focused on doing everything he could to bring a second Lombardi Trophy to Seattle. Now that that task is handled, Kubiak confirmed to NFL Network's Stacey Dales he's on his way to Vegas. "You guys know I'm going to Las Vegas, so I'm fired up about it," Kubiak said.
Footballguys view: The move can be openly discussed following a Super Bowl victory. "I'm really happy for Klint. Without him, we wouldn't be here," coach Mike Macdonald, who now has to find a new OC, said. Levi's Stadium is a special place for the Kubiak family. A decade after his father, Gary, won a Super Bowl in Santa Clara with the Broncos, Klint takes home his first Super Bowl ring with a victory in the very same stadium before heading to Vegas to take the reins of the Raiders.
Updating a previous report, Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby (knee) expects to be on the field during the early parts of the offseason workouts.

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to hire Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as their next head coach after the Super Bowl, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday. A deal between Kubiak and the Raiders cannot be finalized until after the Super Bowl, in which the Seahawks will play the New England Patriots next Sunday.
Footballguys view: After meeting Saturday with the Raiders and Cardinals, Kubiak intends to work out a deal with Las Vegas, multiple outlets are reporting. Once an agreement is reached, Kubiak, a finalist for the Associated Press Assistant Coach of the Year award, would become the franchise's fifth full-term coach since 2021. Kubiak, 38, would join Las Vegas after spending one season in Seattle, where he helped the Seahawks record the most regular-season wins in franchise history by orchestrating one of the league's best offenses. Las Vegas ranked at the bottom in every major offensive category last season. We'll follow up as needed.
Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith was sacked 55 times during the 2025 regular season, which was tied for the most in the NFL.
Footballguys view: As SBNation pointed out, Smith led the league in another aspect: He was among the NFL leaders in passing yards during garbage time. Smith threw for 736 passing yards when the game was out of reach in 2025. It was the third most in the league last season. That means Smith accounted for nearly a quarter of his total season passing yards during garbage time. Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza will likely be drafted by the 3-14 Raiders with the first pick overall in April's draft, and it remains to be seen where Smith will be.

Former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll interviewed with the Las Vegas Raiders for their head coaching position for the second time Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Footballguys view: Daboll has options. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Titans plan to hire Daboll to run their offense. The Raiders' timeline for naming a head coach is unclear, but things could move forward in Tennessee if they let Daboll know that he won't be getting the job.
Las Vegas Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty averaged only 1.6 yards before contact during the 2025 regular season.
Footballguys view: Hopefully the Raiders firing Pete Carroll and with him, his son Brendan Carroll, who was not successful as offensive line coach, will improve the situation for Jeanty. Las Vegas is also expected to take Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza #1 overall, which could be an instant improvement over their quarterback play in recent years.
Former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll interviewed for the vacant head coaching position with the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday, Jan. 24.
Footballguys view: Daboll might get another chance to be a head coach in this cycle. He's met with the Raiders and Bills as a head coach, and other teams are looking at him as an offensive coordinator.
Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is a target of interest for the head-coaching position for the Las Vegas Raiders, and he could interview in-person after the AFC Championship Game. He has already had a virtual interview with the team last week.
Footballguys view: Joseph seems destined to be the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals once the Broncos are done in the postseason. The Raiders have interest in Joseph - and for good reason. However, the rumblings out there suggest they are looking for an offensive-minded head coach. If VJ could bring someone like Broncos passing game coordinator Davis Webb (who is also interviewing for this job) along as his offensive coordinator, that might be the combination the Raiders are looking for.
Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is a target of the Las Vegas Raiders for their head-coaching vacancy. The team wants a younger, offensive coach, and Kubiak fits that bill. He has already completed a virtual interview with the organization, but he is expected to have an in-person interview after the NFC Championship Game.
Footballguys view: Rumblings have the Raiders interested in an offensive-minded head coach, and Kubiak is arguably the hottest head coaching candidate remaining in the postseason. Kubiak runs a West Cost/Shanahan system, and that would elevate the quarterback play while leaning on wide-zone rushing concepts. Anyone taking over the Raiders gets a stud tight end (Brock Bowers) and running back (Ashton Jeanty) to craft an offense around.

Denver Broncos passing game coordinator Davis Webb is considered a strong candidate for the head-coaching vacancy of the Las Vegas Raiders, and that organization wants to schedule a second interview with him after the AFC Championship Game.
Footballguys view: Rumblings suggest the Raiders are waiting for the playoffs to play out before they make a move - and there's plenty of buzz about them wanting an offensive-minded head coach. That could either be Webb with the Broncos or Klint Kubiak with the Seahawks. Webb has done great work with Bo Nix under HC Sean Payton, and if he can get good football from Jarrett Stidham in the AFC Championship Game his stock as a future head coach will only rise.

The Las Vegas Raiders have completed a second head coaching interview with Ejiro Evero for their head coach opening.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter interviewed for the head coaching vacancy of the Las Vegas Raiders for a second time on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Footballguys view: The Raiders have interviewed 14 candidates thus far, although two of them -- Kevin Stefanski and Jeff Hafley -- have been hired by other teams. Hafley was on the list of second interviews with Las Vegas, but his agreement with Miami leaves Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero as the only other reported candidate set to meet with the team again. The Ravens and Browns have also scheduled second interviews with Minter, who seems likely to land a top job this cycle. Stay tuned.
Las Vegas Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty gained 863 of his 975 rushing yards after contact in 2025.
Footballguys view: The Raiders did not do a great job of opening holes for Jeanty. He did a lot of the work on his own, and Jeanty showed why the Raiders selected him in the top 10. Jeanty is a low-end RB1 for Fantasy GMs in 2026, but we'd feel better about him if we knew the quarterback situation.
Las Vegas Raiders WR Tre Tucker said he believes the offense would benefit from consistency from one season to the next. 'For us, every offseason is learning a new offense, Tucker said. 'It's like you are starting all over. I've played three different roles in three systems. I'm going to have to play another role in another system.'

Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula has a request for interview for the head coach position with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Footballguys view: Like most every Rams assistant, Shula has created buzz going into this firing/hiring cycle. The Raiders would be smart to turn into that direction instead of the run of head coach hires that has consisted of chasing previous glory and picking the wrong interim head coach to promote.
