'It's great,' he said recently on his podcast. 'I can't wait to see him back in the building. He's one of my favorite coaches of all time. I've had so many unbelievable growing moments under him as a player.'

He is already showing progress. 'He's around here all the time,' head coach Andy Reid said Friday, Feb. 20. 'He spends a ton of time here, seven hours a day. He's in there cranking away and making progress every day. It's great to see.'

Link to storyKansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes restructured his contract Wednesday, Feb. 18, to convert $54.45 million of his 2026 salary into a signing bonus, lowering his salary cap number from $78.2 to $34.65 million for the upcoming season and creating $43.56 million in salary cap space.

Kansa City Chiefs impending free-agent CB Nazeeh Johnson said he wants to re-sign with the Chiefs this offseason and believes the team will want him back.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs impending free-agent WR Tyquan Thornton said he would be interested in re-signing with the Chiefs this offseason. He will be looking to sign with a team this offseason where he can contribute on offense.
Footballguys view: Thornton finished the 2025 season with 19 catches for 438 yards and three touchdowns. He was acquired at the end of the 2024 season as a developmental player. Thornton ended up being more than that with the absence of Rashee Rice for the first six games due to suspension, and with Xavier Worthy slowed by injury. The speedy former second-round pick found ways to stand out on deep pass plays, making him a constant home-run threat and disrupting the defense. A return at a reasonable price isn't a reach.
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce plans to get in touch with the team after the Super Bowl to discuss his future plans, according to multiple sources. The 36-year-old had reportedly been contemplating retirement but the Chiefs would like him to return for at least one more season.
Footballguys view: Kelce wasn't any better for fantasy in 2025 than he was in 2024 even though Rashee Rice was suspended for the first six games of the season and Patrick Mahomes returned to elite fantasy QB1 form. If he does return, he won't be more than a late round pick in fantasy league.

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce has not made an official decision on his playing future, but people close to him believe he could play again in 2026, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Kelce is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2026, so if he wants to keep playing, he'll have to sign a new deal with the Chiefs. It's too early to tell, but it seems like Kelce is going to suit up one more year (at least). The Chiefs had a down year, missing the playoffs in 2025, so Kelce may want to come back for this season and make another push for the Super Bowl.

Free-agent QB Jake Haener (Saints) agreed to terms on a Reserve/Future contract with the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Feb. 2, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Haener was involved in a competition for the starting job in New Orleans with Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough last season, but wound up in third position. The 2023 fourth-round pick spent most of the season on the practice squad and did not appear in any games. The Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes coming off a torn ACL, so their other quarterbacks should get plenty of work in the offseason. Gardner Minshew and Chris Oladokun filled in after Mahomes' injury, but Minshew is not under contract for 2026.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Gardner Minshew (knee) did not tear his ACL in Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans. Further testing reveals he suffered a bone bruise that did not require surgery.
Footballguys view: Good news for Minshew as he's an unrestricted free agent this offseason. With no knee injury to deal with this offseason, there's likely to be at least a few teams interested in Minshew as a backup quarterback.

Chicago Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy has agreed to terms on a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs to become their new offensive coordinator, according to a source.
Footballguys view: What's old is new again. Bieniemy had the best success of his career as an offensive coordinator running the show with the Chiefs. Expect the team to try and find more weapons for the offense this offseason.
Former Kansas City Chiefs quality control coach Louie Addazio left to serve as the new offensive line coach for UNLV in the college ranks. Assistant defensive line coach Alex Whittingham also left to serve as linebackers coach at the University of Michigan on his father's staff.
Link to storyCleveland Browns wide receivers coach Chad O'Shea is being hired by the Kansas City Chiefs as their new wide receivers coach, according to a source.
Footballguys view: O'Shea got into the NFL as a volunteer assistant with Kansas City in 2003. Over two decades later, he's back as Andy Reid remodels his offensive staff. Before his time in Cleveland, O'Shea spent a decade with the New England Patriots, coaching wide receivers from 2009 to 2018. He was part of three Super Bowl championship teams during that span.
Chicago Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy has been requested for an interview for the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator post.
Footballguys view: Bieniemy was the offensive coordinator in Kansas City from 2018-2022. Matt Nagy closed out the 2025 season as the offensive coordinator with the Chiefs, but he has an expiring contract and is seen as a top candidate to land the head coaching job in Tennessee. Either way, it seems likely Nagy's time as OC in Kansas City is coming to an end.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) said the rehab from his torn anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament is going great and that his goal is to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season.
Footballguys view: It's a bit 'pie in the sky' to think Mahomes could be ready that soon, but stranger things have happened. Mahomes is working hard to get back on the field, but the Chiefs are going to be super cautious with their superstar quarterback along the way. In fact, we may not see him much if at all in the preseason. When training camp rolls around in late July, we'll have a better idea about his status for Week 1.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco (non-injury) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 2, and is listed as questionable for Week 18.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs are just trying to get through Week 18 so they can turn the page to 2026. Pacheco, even if active, is a shaky RB4. If he can't go, Kareem Hunt will move up into RB2 territory.
Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (illness) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 2, and is listed as doubtful for Week 18.
Footballguys view: Worthy has held without a catch last week with Chris Oladokun starting. Even if he were active, he'd be a tough start this week. The Chiefs have turned their sights to 2026 as Patrick Mahomes recovers from a torn ACL. Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster should operate as the team's top receivers, but they're both extremely risky starts in fantasy.
