Bills | WR Tyrell Shavers suffered a torn ACL on Sunday    Tue Jan 13, 04:01 PM

Bills WR Tyrell Shavers has torn his ACL, per coach Sean McDermott.

Footballguys view: It's another massive hit to an already battered wide receiver room. Gabe Davis also suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Sunday's win over the Jaguars, and Joshua Palmer went on IR last week. That leaves Khalil Shakir, Brandin Cooks, and Keon Coleman as Buffalo's top healthy receivers. However, Curtis Samuel (elbow) was designated for return to practice on Tuesday and could be activated from injured reserve ahead of Saturday's divisional-round game in Denver. For Shavers, the timing of this injury makes it likely he'll not be ready for the start of the 2026 season.

Eagles | Kevin Patullo out as offensive coordinator    Tue Jan 13, 03:51 PM

The Eagles have informed OC Kevin Patullo they're making a change at OC following Sunday's wild-card loss to the 49ers, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday. Rapoport and Garafolo reported there's a chance Patullo could remain on Sirianni's coaching staff.

Footballguys view: Following their Super Bowl LIX victory, a triumph marked by a 40-point explosion, the Eagles lost offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to the New Orleans Saints' head coaching job and promoted Patullo to replace him. The move proved to be a costly misstep. Patullo struggled to find his footing as the team's play-caller, resulting in Philly finishing 19th in scoring and 24th in yards -- both easily the worst results on Nick Sirianni's five-year tenure as head coach. From 2022-24, the Eagles never finished worse than seventh in scoring or eighth in yards.

49ers | Practice window opened for Fred Warner    Tue Jan 13, 03:41 PM

San Francisco 49ers LB Fred Warner (ankle) had his practice window to return from injured reserve opened on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Footballguys view: Warner won't play on Saturday against the Seahawks, but if the 49ers win, coach Kyle Shanahan says they're hopeful he can be ready to play for the NFC Championship. As Profootballtalk.com reminded readers, Warner dislocated and fractured his right ankle in Week 6, and at the time, it was described as a season-ending injury. But Warner has worked hard in his rehab and believes he could play now. The 49ers are being a little more cautious than that, but if they win on Saturday, it sounds like there's a good chance he'll be on the field eight days later.

Steelers | Mike Tomlin steps down as head coach     Tue Jan 13, 02:18 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told the team he will be stepping down on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Footballguys view: After 19 seasons as Steelers head coach, Tomlin, 53, amassed a 193-114-2 regular-season record and never had a losing season. Highlighted by a Super Bowl-winning season in 2008, Tomlin held a 8-12 record in the postseason. Tomlin leaves Pittsburgh following a crushing wild-card loss to the Houston Texans on Monday night -- his seventh straight postseason defeat. It's not clear if he'll be jumping into the pool of candidates for 2026 head coaching openings or if his interests lie in the broadcast side of the game. He will be highly sought after in both fields.

Vikings | Jordan Addison arrested for probable cause trespassing    Tue Jan 13, 01:36 PM

Minnesota Vikings WR Jordan Addison was arrested on Monday, Jan. 12, for probable cause trespassing. It marks the third straight offseason in which Addison has had legal trouble arise.

Footballguys view: Addison's off-the-field actions continue to complicate his long-term future with the Vikings. As SI.com noted, the offseason after a player's third year in the NFL is a big one. For first-round picks, teams have to decide if they're going to exercise the fifth-year option on a player's rookie contract. Players also become eligible to sign long-term extensions. Addison's issues could impact how the Vikings view No. 3 receiver Jalen Nailor, who is an unrestricted free agent. Will they be more aggressive in trying to re-sign Nailor if they don't feel like Addison is in their long-term plans? We shall see.

Chargers | Greg Roman fired    Tue Jan 13, 01:23 PM

Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman was fired on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Footballguys view: Roman, 53, was hired in 2024 when Jim Harbaugh returned to coach the Chargers. Roman was previously Harbaugh's coordinator with San Francisco from 2011-2014. Los Angeles finished the season No. 12 in total yards and No. 20 in points scored. The club dealt with several injuries, particularly along the offensive line. But Los Angeles managed just 207 total yards in Sunday's 16-3 wild-card loss to the Patriots, which likely hastened this move. Los Angeles is likely to have two new coordinators in 2026, as defensive coordinator Jesse Minter is primed to land a head coaching job in this cycle.

Titans | Jeff Hafley interviewing with Titans    Tue Jan 13, 12:55 PM

Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is interviewing for the Tennessee Titans head coaching vacancy Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Footballguys view: Hafley has spent the last two seasons with the Packers, and he has previous head coaching experience at Boston College. The Cardinals, Dolphins, Falcons, and Raiders have also requested interviews with Hafley as part of their head coaching searches. The Titans interviewed seven other candidates last week, and they are expected to spend time with Mike McDaniel, Brian Daboll, and Jonathan Gannon in the coming days.

Commanders | Brian Flores sought for Commanders interview    Tue Jan 13, 12:49 PM

Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores is receiving interest from the Washington Commanders for an interview for their vacant defensive coordinator post.

Footballguys view: It's not clear if Flores will be available for a coordinator job this cycle. The Vikings have expressed a desire to have Flores back, and Profootballtalk.com reported Monday that they are confident he will be back if he does not land a top job somewhere else. But Flores interviewed with the Ravens for their head coaching job, and the Raiders are also said to have interest in hiring him as head coach.

Dolphins | Kevin Stefanski interviewing with Miami    Tue Jan 13, 12:48 PM

Former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is interviewing with the Miami Dolphins for their head coaching vacancy Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Footballguys view: Since the Browns fired him earlier this month, Stefanski has also interviewed with the Giants, Raiders, Titans, Ravens, and Falcons. Stefanski accumulated a 45-56 record with Cleveland from 2020-2025, twice winning AP coach of the year. Even with former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and former Ravens coach John Harbaugh in the pool, Stefanski is still considered a strong candidate.

Vikings | Mike Pettine retires    Tue Jan 13, 12:47 PM

Minnesota Vikings assistant head coach Mike Pettine retired Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Footballguys view: Pettine, 59, joined the Vikings in 2022. In 2024, Pettine was both the assistant head coach and the outside linebackers coach. He served as head coach of the Browns from 2014 through 2015. Before that, Pettine spent three years as the defensive coordinator of the Jets (2009 through 2012) and one with the Bills (2013). He coordinated the defense in Green Bay from 2018 through 2020. Kevin O'Connell will need a new assistant head coach, and current DC Brian Flores would be a candidate. But Flores is being courted as both a head coach and coordinator candidate by multiple teams.

Panthers | Bryce Young option to be picked up    Tue Jan 13, 12:44 PM

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young's fifth-year option will be picked up in the offseason, according to general manager Dan Morgan.

Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com suggested, the prospect of the Panthers picking up Young's option seemed unlikely when he was benched early in the 2024 season. Still, he showed clear improvement once he returned to the lineup after Andy Dalton's injury, and he showed more progress while helping the Panthers to the NFC South title in 2025. There was still enough inconsistency to fuel doubts about whether Young can deliver the return on investment expected when he was made the first overall pick in 2023, but picking up the option gives Young time to show that he can reach that level in Carolina.

Buccaneers | Todd Monken to interview in Tampa    Tue Jan 13, 11:34 AM

Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken will interview for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator spot Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Footballguys view: Monken, 59, spent the past three years as the Ravens offensive coordinator until head coach John Harbaugh was fired. Monken's ties to the Bucs are deep. He was the team's receivers coach/offensive coordinator under head coach Dirk Koetter from 2016-18. If there is a leader in the clubhouse for the Bucs job, Monken is it. But he also interviewed on Saturday for the Browns head coaching job.

Titans | Brian Daboll to interview with the Titans    Tue Jan 13, 11:23 AM

Former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll will interview for the Tennessee Titans head coaching vacancy Friday, Jan. 16.

Footballguys view: The Giants fired Daboll during the regular season, but he took the club to the playoffs in 2022 and beat the Vikings. The remainder of his tenure featured few highlights. He went 11-33 before being fired 10 games into the 2025 season. Daboll was an offensive coordinator before getting the Giants job and could find interest from teams looking for him to return to that role. Still, Daboll's interest may hinge on whether he's able to land another top job during this cycle.

Steelers | Aaron Rodgers isn't willing to discuss future    Tue Jan 13, 01:32 AM

Monday night's playoff loss may have been the last game for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. We won't know the answer for now. In his post-game press conference after the Steelers fell to the Texans, 30-6, Rodgers wasn't ready to talk about the future. "I'm not gonna make any emotional decisions," Rodgers said. He was then asked whether he wanted to continue to play for the Steelers. "I'm not gonna talk about that," Rodgers said.

Footballguys view: If it was Rodgers' last game, he finished with 17 completions in 33 attempts, for 146 yards and an interception that was returned for a touchdown by the Texans. He also had a fumble returned for a touchdown. Will his last pass be a pick-six? Rodgers will be a free agent in March. He has said he may have another option or two if he doesn't return to Pittsburgh. Of course, the first question in Pittsburgh is whether coach Mike Tomlin will be back. If not, it's hard to imagine Rodgers being back, either.

Steelers | Mike Tomlin not ready to discuss his future    Tue Jan 13, 01:29 AM

The Steelers have finished their 2025 season with another postseason loss. They haven't won a playoff game in nine years. After the game, coach Mike Tomlin was asked about his future. He didn't shoot it down. He didn't brush it off. He didn't walk away. He provided an answer -- one that will serve only to increase speculation that he possibly will choose to walk away after 19 seasons on the job. "I'm not even in that mindset as I sit here tonight," Tomlin told reporters. "I'm more in the mindset of what transpired in this stadium, and certainly what we did and didn't do. Not a big-picture mentality as I sit here tonight."

Footballguys view: As PFT's Mike Florio suggested, some believe Tomlin has an offer in his back pocket for a TV job in 2026. We'll likely find out sooner than later what he decides to do.

Falcons | Mike McDaniel completes interview for HC    Tue Jan 13, 12:41 AM

Free agent head coach Mike McDaniel has completed an interview with the Atlanta Falcons of the team's head coaching vacancy on Monday, Jan. 12.

Footballguys view: McDaniel was an offensive assistant with the Falcons from 2015-16, which included being a part of the staff during the team's Super Bowl run. Newly announced president of football -- Matt Ryan -- was the franchise's quarterback at the time and named league MVP for the 2016 season. In addition to interviewing with the Lions for their offensive coordinator opening, McDaniel is scheduled to meet with the Ravens as a head coaching candidate.

Bills | Matt Prater might practice more this week    Tue Jan 13, 12:40 AM

Buffalo Bills PK Matt Prater (quadriceps) 'is in a good spot', head coach Sean McDermott said Monday, Jan. 12, as he recovers from a quadriceps injury. Prater is expected to practice somewhat similar to last week, though he might increase reps a little more this week.

Footballguys view: Prater was limited to field goals and extra point attempts in the AFC Wild Card game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Punter Mitch Wishnowsky handled kickoffs. We'll be watching for more.

Giants | John Harbaugh, Chris Mara meet informally    Tue Jan 13, 12:39 AM

Free-agent head coach John Harbaugh and New York Giants executive Chris Mara met for lunch and an informal meeting at the coach's house. Both sides say Harbaugh remains very interested in the Giants' head coaching vacancy.

Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com noted, the news comes at a time when rumors are swirling that the Giants have already made an unofficial offer to Harbaugh, in the range of $20 million per year. Technically, GM Joe Schoen is running the search for a new New York coach. But the Giants are a family-run business. And Chris Mara, the brother of primary owner John Mara, can do whatever he wants. Including letting Harbaugh know that the Giants are willing to make him a formal offer, if/when he's willing to accept it.

Bills | Dalton Kincaid expected to be fine    Tue Jan 13, 12:38 AM

Buffalo Bills TE Dalton Kincaid (undisclosed) was wearing a walking boot after the Wild Card playoff game, but head coach Sean McDermott said Kincaid should be fine for the Divisional Round game.

Footballguys view: Great news considering the potential outcomes. The tight end has missed five regular-season contests in total due to various injuries, including to his oblique and hamstring. Still, Kincaid has remained as one of the Bills' top targets in the passing game, finishing the regular season second on the team in yards receiving (571) and first in touchdowns receiving with five. During Buffalo's win over the Jaguars in the Wild Card Round, he recorded three receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown. We'll see if he's ready with a short turnaround to a Saturday game in Denver.

Bills | Tyrell Shavers being evaluated    Tue Jan 13, 12:37 AM

Buffalo Bills WR Tyrell Shavers (knee) is being evaluated after injuring his knee during the Wild Card playoff game, according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Footballguys view: Shavers got hurt while returning a punt in the second quarter. He stayed down on the field after the play and was clearly in pain, but he was able to return to action. The 26-year-old wide receiver has appeared in every game for the Bills since the start of the regular season. We'll see if he can keep that streak going on a short week, with the Bills playing in Denver on Saturday.

Steelers | Pittsburgh falls apart late in Wild Card loss    Tue Jan 13, 12:15 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers connected on 17 of his 33 passing attempts for 146 yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception in a loss to the Houston Texans on Wild Card Weekend. Rodgers was sacked four times and fumbled twice, losing one. RB Jaylen Warren had 12 carries for 43 yards; he added a four-yard reception. RB Kenneth Gainwell picked up 20 yards on six carries, and he also caught four passes for 26 yards. WR DK Metcalf had two receptions for 42 yards; he was targeted five times. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling logged 26 yards on three receptions. WR Adam Thielen posted two receptions for 25 yards. WR Calvin Austin was held to three catches and eight yards. TE Pat Freiermuth had an 18-yard reception for his lone catch, while TE Jonnu Smith turned two receptions into minus-one yard. LB Patrick Queen led the club with 10 tackles, including seven solo. CB Brandin Echols was credited with three stops and had an interception in the loss.

Footballguys view: Unlike a heart-stopping fourth-quarter rally against Baltimore that earned them their first AFC North title since 2020, this time there was no late-game magic from Rodgers and the Steelers. Instead, Mike Tomlin's postseason losing streak hit seven, tying Marvin Lewis of the Bengals for the longest playoff skid by an NFL coach. While the NFL's longest-tenured coach is all but assured of returning for a 20th season if he wants, Pittsburgh heads into yet another offseason likely searching for another quarterback and answers to a playoff drought whose weight seems to grow by the year.
