Falcons | Jalon Walker progressing Sun Aug 31, 03:27 PM
Atlanta Falcons LB Jalon Walker (ankle) is doing good in his recovery from injury, according to head coach Raheem Morris.
Footballguys view: The Falcons used the 15th overall pick to land Walker, who most expected to go in the top 10 of the draft. He missed about half of the summer practices with groin and hamstring injuries, but the team said they have a plan for him in Week 1 and he will be ready to play. Walker's snap count against Tampa (who will be missing left tackle Tristan Wirfs) will be determined by head coach Raheem Morris "waves" approach, which sounds a lot like a hot hand backfield. |
Atlanta Falcons OT Elijah Wilkinson is the likely starter at right tackle for the season opener. 'I'm comfortable with him, I really am,' offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford said.
Link to storyAtlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts could be a trade candidate if the Falcons struggle ahead of the trade deadline, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Pitts has a ton of physical talent, but things have failed to come together for the former top-10 pick outside of his 1,000-yard season as a rookie. We'll see what kind of connection the veteran tight end can build with second-year quarterback Michael Penix. Fantasy GMs who still trust Pitts can look at him in his normal low-end TE1 spot with upside. |

Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said he is happy about the medical reports he is receiving on WR Darnell Mooney (shoulder) but does not know when Mooney will be able to return to the field.
Footballguys view: Expectations immediately after Mooney's injury were that he could be back for the season opener. But as we get closer to kickoff, he's still recovering. Casey Washington has been filling in for Mooney in camp, and might warrant some early-season flex consideration if Mooney has to miss an extended period of time. |

Atlanta Falcons WR Darnell Mooney's (shoulder) availability for the start of the regular season is uncertain at this point, according to head coach Raheem Morris.
Footballguys view: Mooney was diagnosed with a shoulder sprain. His absence should open up opportunity for Ray-Ray McCloud to get more snaps and potentially carve out a Week 1 role. Mooney looked great as the team's secondary option last year, though, and should regain that role as soon as he can return. |

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR Darnell Mooney (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during practice Friday, July 25, and is expected to miss most of training camp, according to league sources.
Footballguys view: We shouldn't move Mooney down too far on our boards in light of this, but he belongs at the bottom of his tier. Shoulder injuries can recur in-season, especially in deep threats that have to leave their feet to attempt to make downfield catches in most games. DJ Chark was signed yesterday, but KhaDarel Hodge will get the first shot at first team reps in place of Mooney. |
