Patriots | Kayshon Boutte making a leap? Sat Aug 30, 01:28 AM
New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte had a 'stunning' offseason turnaround, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Boutte seems to be locked in as the Patriots no.3 receiver behind Stefon Diggs and Demario Douglas. There's some 'what the heck' flex appeal in deeper leagues if he takes the work from the summer and translates that to regular season success. |

New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson has the team 'ecstatic,' according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, and Howe believes Henderson could become the lead back.
Footballguys view: Everyone should be excited by Henderson. He's a big play waiting to happen, and Henderson can flip the field anytime he touches the ball - both as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. The rookie from Ohio State is going to split time with Rhamondre Stevenson this season. In fact, many are expecting Henderson to take over in the backfield. That's why Henderson is seen by most as an RB2 with RB1 upside. |
New England Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez's (hamstring) conditioning could prevent him from being ready for the season opener, according to head coach Mike Vrabel. 'In my own personal experience, you can only ride the bike so long or do the stair climber or something,' Vrabel said. 'You actually have to come out here, put pads on, run and get into football conditioning.'
Footballguys view: The Raiders are coming to Foxboro for the season opener. This could help Geno Smith, Dont'e Thornton and Jakobi Meyers get off to a good start. The Patriots depth behind Gonzalez is largely untested. Jeff Howe of The Athletic wrote that it is "tough to pin down a timetable on his return". |

New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins is the 'best option' to start as the outside receiver across from WR Stefon Diggs in the season opener, according to Chad Graff of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Third round pick Kyle Williams is behind Hollins, Kayshon Boutte (who had a good summer in his first camp under Mike Vrabel) and Demario Douglas right now, but the team should mix him in to add his quickness and speed to an offense that sorely needs it. Hollins is the superior blocker and can hold his own against NFL starting outside corners while Williams watches and learns. Williams may end up dropped early on by disappointed fantasy players, but if the Patriots offense improves - especially Drake Maye - Williams could be an impact player in the second half of the season. |

Free-agent TE CJ Dippre (Patriots), RB Terrell Jennings (Patriots), WR John Jiles (Patriots), TE Gee Scott (Patriots) and WR Jeremiah Webb (Patriots) were signed to the New England Patriots practice squad Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Link to storyNew England Patriots WR Javon Baker was waived Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Footballguys view: The Patriots moving on from another pick here. Baker was a fourth-round pick for them just last year, and now he's waived. Coming out of UCF (Alabama transfer), Baker has good ball-tracking ability on deep passes. It's clear this month that the Patriots wanted to rework the WR room with Baker being waived and Kendrick Bourne being released. |
Former New York Giants QB Tommy DeVito was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots Wednesday, Aug. 27, according to a source.
Link to storyNew England Patriots WR Ja'Lynn Polk (shoulder) and LB Jahlani Tavai (calf) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Aug. 26.
Footballguys view: Polk, a second-year receiver, will now have season-ending shoulder surgery. A second-round pick (Washington) just last year, Polk seemed in danger of making the team before suffering this shoulder injury. He'll have a ton to prove next year in training camp. |

Link to storyNew England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson brings 'a different gear' to the team's offense, which they have lacked in recent years, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. Per Reiss, he points out the Patriots are creating their own version of the Detroit Lions backfield with Henderson playing the Jahmyr Gibbs role and Rhamondre Stevenson playing the role of David Montgomery.
Footballguys view: If the offense is moderately successful and the team somewhat competitive, both backs should outproduce their ADPs. Stevenson is a slightly better value, while Henderson has a higher ceiling, especially in PPR leagues. Henderson is one of the fastest risers as we get to the peak of draft season, so you might have to take him before his Footballguys consensus ADP of 46 to get him. |

New England Patriots RB Micah Bernard, WR Phil Lutz, TE Cole Fotheringham, RB Shane Watts, QB Ben Wooldridge and TE Jaheim Bell were released Friday, Aug. 22.
Link to storyNew England Patriots WR Ja'Lynn Polk (shoulder) will miss the entire 2025 season with a shoulder injury, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Polk was the no.37 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he was clearly on the roster bubble this summer. Now, he's going to miss the season and try to make a strong case for a roster spot next year. |
New England Patriots WR Javon Baker (undisclosed) will travel with the team for their final preseason game and may be able to play in the game, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Baker needs to play if he can. He's on the roster bubble and is likely bound for the practice squad if he's impressed enough over the summer. |
New England Patriots WR Efton Chism III (leg) and WR Kyle Williams (undisclosed) are not expected to play in the final preseason game.
Link to storyNew England Patriots S Kyle Dugger is on the trade block, but the Patriots might have to eat salary in order to move him, according to sources.

New England Patriots WR Javon Baker (undisclosed) has missed the last two practices and is not expected to play in the team's final preseason game, per ESPN's Mike Reiss.
Footballguys view: This is not good news for Baker as the Patriots are jam-packed at the wide receiver position. Baker is considered to be on the bubble for the team's 53-man roster. Perhaps the team would put Baker on the practice squad. |

New England Patriots WR Stefon Diggs (knee) is ahead of schedule from his knee injury, according to executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf.
Footballguys view: While Diggs has been a consistent participant in practice throughout training camp, the Patriots haven't allowed him to suit up for either of the team's first two exhibition contests. Still, the fact that he avoided the PUP list when camp opened removes most of the post-ACL recovery fears, making him a good bet for top-25 value. Diggs is being drafted as WR35 in Round 7. |

New England Patriots WR Efton Chism III caught six passes for 71 yards and one touchdown during the preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings Saturday, Aug. 16.
Footballguys view: The undrafted rookie has produced a steady drumbeat and appears to be well on his way to making the final roster, probably at the expense of Ja'Lynn Polk or Javon Baker, who were the team's 2024 second and fourth round picks, respectively. Chism should be the backup to Demario Douglas in the slot to open the season. |
New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson rushed for 20 yards and one touchdown on four carries during the preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings Saturday, Aug. 16.
Footballguys view: Henderson had an impressive run that showed off his burst once again, although he was running back Antonio Gibson, with Rhamondre Stevenson sitting for the second preseason game with an undisclosed injury. Henderson will have weekly upside via big plays, but he might not be a consistent presence in the box score at first with sporadic usage on early downs. Henderson is being drafted as everyweek contributor in the fifth round, but he might not be ready for that in September. |
New England Patriots WR Kyle Williams caught three passes for 24 yards during the preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings Saturday, Aug. 16. He was targeted three times during the game.
