| Footballguys view: Dowdle is one of the best backs available in free agency, and it seems unlikely he would take a hometown discount to stay with the Panthers. Coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons on the ground, Dowdle may be playing on his third team in three years in 2026. We'll see how much interest RB-needy teams have in Dowdle later this offseason. He's an RB2 for Fantasy GMs in the right landing spot. |

He should benefit from Tetairoa McMillan often drawing the best outside corner from the opposing defense. Coker has won on downfield routes consistently and should have the trust of Bryce Young as a big play target. His value is trending up considerably in dynasty leagues. |

| Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com suggested, the prospect of the Panthers picking up Young's option seemed unlikely when he was benched early in the 2024 season. Still, he showed clear improvement once he returned to the lineup after Andy Dalton's injury, and he showed more progress while helping the Panthers to the NFC South title in 2025. There was still enough inconsistency to fuel doubts about whether Young can deliver the return on investment expected when he was made the first overall pick in 2023, but picking up the option gives Young time to show that he can reach that level in Carolina. |

| Footballguys view: The running back free agent market is very strong, led by Breece Hall, Ken Walker, and Travis Etienne, so Dowdle might not be able to get the lead back role he's looking for. Chuba Hubbard was the favored back in the near upset of the Rams, and the Panthers have 2025 fourth round pick Trevor Etienne and 2024 second round pick Jonathon Brooks (who is coming back from a second torn ACL), so Dowdle coming back to Carolina wasn't very likely even before these comments. |

| Footballguys view: Recovery from patellar tendon surgery ranges from 6-12 months, so the Panthers can't count on having Ekwonu for camp or Week 1, and it's not certain that he will play next season at all. The Panthers had serviceable backup left tackle options on the roster this season in Brady Christensen (who suffered a torn achilles in Week 8) and Yosh Nijman, but neither is under contract next year, so the team has some work to do at tackle this offseason. |

Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young completed 21 of his 40 passes for 264 yards, a touchdown and an interception, and he rushed three times for 24 yards and a touchdown in a 34-31 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card playoff game. RB Chuba Hubbard rushed 13 times for 46 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 13 yards, and Rico Dowdle chipped in nine rushing yards on five carries and caught one pass for six yards. WR Jalen Coker delivered nine catches for a game-high 134 yards and a score, WR Tetairoa McMillan caught five passes for 81 yards, and TE Tommy Tremble secured three receptions for 22 yards. LB Christian Rozeboom led the way with nine tackles, including five solo stops, and CB Mike Jackson added three tackles, four passes defensed and an interception.
| Footballguys view: Coker and Hubbard were the players to watch here. Hubbard scored twice and ran hard to keep the Panthers in this game. Coker finished with over 100 yards receiving and seemed to make a big play every time he touched the ball. Panthers fans can hold their heads high in defeat. The Panthers put up a fight and can be excited about what they're building for the future. |

The Carolina Panthers are expected to pick up the fifth-year option on QB Bryce Young's rookie contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
| Footballguys view: Young has grown during his pro career. At one point, Young looked like he might end up a bust. Instead, the 2023 no.1 overall pick led the Panthers to the Wild Card Round and played some good football. Against the Rams on Saturday, Young put up a fight with over 260 yards and one touchdown. The Panthers are building something with Young, so we'll see what else they put around him in the offseason. |
