If he cannot go, QB Sam Howell would be the primary backup to starter QB Jalen Hurts.

Free-agent WR Cornelius Johnson (Packers) recently met with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Javon Baker (Patriots) plans to join the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad.
Footballguys view: Baker has undeniable talent, but was inconsistent and fell out of favor with two different coaching staffs in two years. He was a fourth round pick last year and should still be on our watch list in deep dynasty leagues. The Eagles have one of the softest wide receiver depth charts in the league, so Baker could climb it quickly if he can redeem himself. |
Free-agent WR Britain Covey (Rams) was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad Thursday, Aug. 28.
Link to storyFree-agent RB Audric Estime (Broncos) is signing with the Phildaelphia Eagles practice squad Wednesday, Aug. 27, according to a source.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Elijah Cooks (Eagles), TE E.J. Jenkins (Eagles), TE Cameron Latu (Eagles), WR Terrace Marshall Jr. (Eagles) and QB Kyle McCord (Eagles) were signed to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Footballguys view: McCord was a sixth-round pick (Syracuse) for the Eagles just last year. He's got an incredibly quick release and has no problem challenging a defense. McCord is worth developing, and on the Eagles there could be something there for the future. |

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired QB Sam Howell and a 2027 seventh-round draft pick from the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, Aug. 24, in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: Tanner McKee was having a great summer for the Eagles, but he is out with a finger injury. Judging by this trade, the team must not expect him back any time soon. The Vikings felt good enough about Carson Wentz - who they signed this weekend - behind JJ McCarthy that they could recoup some draft capital for Howell. The Vikings only moved down 30 spots in April's draft to get Howell, so they profited from having him on the roster for months, getting a fifth round pick outright, in addition to a similar bump from the seventh to sixth as the one they gave up within the fifth round to get Howell in the first place. |
Philadelphia Eagles QB Tanner McKee (finger) was held out of the team's preseason game versus the New York Jets Friday, Aug. 22, due to an injured finger on his throwing hand. His availability for Week 1's game versus the Dallas Cowboys is uncertain, according to head coach Nick Sirianni.
Footballguys view: The primary backup to Jalen Hurts, McKee didn't need reps in the final preseason game. Reporters around the Eagles believe McKee could be a future starter in the NFL someday, and that hits our radar in deep dynasty leagues. |

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired WR John Metchie and a sixth-round draft pick from the Houston Texans on Sunday, Aug. 17, for TE Harrison Bryant and a fifth-round pick.
Footballguys view: The Texans were willing to give up draft capital for an experienced tight end after Brevin Jordan went down in camp. They have Dalton Schultz and 2024 fourth round pick Cade Stover, who is having a great camp at tight end, so Houston might be signaling that they will have a lot of sets with two tight ends. The Eagles have a glut of tight ends and always are looking for an upgrade to their bench wide receiver spots, and Metchie might be that. |
Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo said WR Jahan Dotson is a terrific route runner, and the team is confident in having him line up in any of the receiver spots during games.

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown (hamstring) did not suffer a setback and was held out of practice as a precaution Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Footballguys view: Brown missed multiple games with a hamstring issue last season. While this reassures us to some extent, we still want to see him back to an everyday full practice schedule before the season begins. He is going in the mid second after going in the first round of 2024 drafts. |

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles OG Landon Dickerson (knee) is scheduled to undergo surgery in the next few days to repair his meniscus injury. He is considered week-to-week and has a chance to be ready for Week 1.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles OG Landon Dickerson (knee) is believed to have a meniscus injury and is receiving additional opinions to determine how long he will be sidelined, according to sources.
Footballguys view: The Eagles acquired former Texans first rounder Kenyon Green for Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in the offseason. They turned around the career of Mekhi Becton - a former Jets first round pick - last year, and it sounds like they'll be hoping Green is ready to repeat Becton's story this year while Dickerson is mending. This is a big loss, but the Eagles are one of the best equipped teams to deal with it. |
