Chiefs | Hollywood Brown fully participates in practice Tue Sep 2, 02:08 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown (ankle) was a full participant in practice on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Footballguys view: It sounds like Brown is on track to play in Friday's season opener against the Chargers. "He's done everything. He's looked good out there running around," Reid said of the speedy wideout. For his part, Brown told reporters that he's feeling good entering the season after dealing with the injury to his ankle and foot. The Chiefs' first injury report will be released later on Tuesday. Fourth-round rookie receiver Jalen Royals was the only player who did not participate in Tuesday's practice, Reid said, with the young wideout unlikely to play against the Chargers this week. |

On the Steelers' first depth chart of the season, which was released on Tuesday, rookie Kaleb Johnson is behind both Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell in the RB3 spot.
Footballguys view: Johnson, who has been working behind Gainwell all offseason long, had a relatively quiet August, with the highlight being his preseason Week 2 performance against the Buccaneers, when he tallied 11 carries for 50 yards. The Steelers hope Johnson eventually takes on the Najee Harris role and works in tandem with Warren, who isn't going anywhere after inking a two-year contract extension on Monday. In fact, head coach Mike Tomlin, asked about Warren on Tuesday, told reporters: "Certainly he'll be our featured runner. Certainly you'll see [Johnson and Gainwell], but at what time and at what degree [will depend week-to-week]." |
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren will be the 'featured runner' to begin the 2025 season, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.
Footballguys view: While Tomlin acknowledged we'll see Kenneth Gainwell and Kaleb Johnson, currently listed as RB2 and RB3, respectively on the team's depth chart, the coach added, "At what time and at what degree [will depend week-to-week]." That being the case, it's worth noting that hampered by injuries, Warren finished as RB45 last year. But he was RB20 (in a timeshare with Najee Harris) in 2023. An RB2 finish would be ahead of the RB3 price we've been paying for Warren in recent days. |
Detroit Lions WR Isaac TeSlaa was not spotted at practice on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Footballguys view: There was no update on what is keeping TeSlaa out of practice. The next update we should get will come on Wednesday, when the Lions release their first injury report of the 2025 season. As The Sporting News noted, TeSlaa had an outstanding offseason that saw him shine in both training camp and the preseason. On Monday, head coach Dan Campbell revealed that TeSlaa will have a role on offense in Week 1, and he will also work on special teams. If TeSlaa doesn't suit up, Kalif Raymond will almost certainly see an increase in snaps on offense. |
Free-agent WR Gabe Davis (Jaguars) signed with the Buffalo Bills' practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 2. He'll begin on the practice squad as he recovers from a torn meniscus last season.
Footballguys view: Davis, a Bills fourth-round pick in 2020, spent his first four seasons with the franchise. But after what seemed like a breakout performance against the Chiefs in the 2021 postseason with four touchdowns, Davis failed to hit stride over the next two seasons. The Jaguars signed Davis to a three-year contract in free agency in 2024, but he was released in early May. He had 20 receptions for 239 yards with two TDs in 10 games last year. While he's reportedly still recovering from the knee injury, Davis may be able to help the offense at some point in 2025. |

New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart is the backup quarterback on the team's unofficial Week 1 depth chart.
Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com notes, depth charts released by teams always carry the caveat that they are unofficial, so it's not a sure thing that Dart is in that role, but it fits with how things were shaping up during training camp and the preseason. Sunday's inactive list will be the final determination, as the Giants will almost certainly have two active quarterbacks with the third-stringer available on an emergency basis only. But for now, Dart looks like next man up if something happens to starter Russell Wilson. |
Pittsburgh Steelers DE Cameron Heyward will play in Week 1, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Free-agent LB Kyzir White (Cardinals) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Tennessee Titans Tuesday, Sept. 2.

New England Patriots WR Stefon Diggs (knee) is expected to play in Week 1, according to head coach Mike Vrabel.
Footballguys view: Diggs tore his ACL while playing for the Texans last year and signed with New England as a free agent this offseason. He didn't play in the preseason, but his rehab went well enough that he was practicing without limitations throughout training camp. Now, Diggs is listed as a starter along with Demario Douglas and Mack Hollins. Kayshon Boutte, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism round out the receiving corps, but as Profootballtalk.com suggested, Diggs returning to pre-injury form would give the Patriots the kind of dynamic receiver they were missing in quarterback Drake Maye's rookie year. |

Los Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton could be 'a very productive workhorse,' in the opinion of The Athletic's Daniel Popper, who writes that Hampton is the 'complete package' as a runner, and with questions surrounding how much RB Najee Harris (eye) can contribute, Popper believes that the Chargers will 'feed' Hampton a lot of touches.
Footballguys view: Popper believes that role will be sufficient for Hampton to be among the league leaders in rushing yards this season. While that's not out of the question, it won't be easy. As SI.com's Mike Moraitis notes, there is no telling how well Hampton will acclimate to the NFL in his first season. Even the slightest issue with that will cause him to fall short of this prediction. Adding to that, Najee Harris figures to see ample action, which could significantly cut into Hampton's snaps, making it even more difficult for him to finish as a top-five rusher. |
Green Bay Packers WR Matthew Golden looked like the team's 'best wideout in camp,' according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, who writes that Golden's hands stood out. Schneidman adds that Golden 'should get plenty of opportunities from the jump and only pick up steam from there' with WR Jayden Reed (foot) bothered by a foot injury and WR Christian Watson (knee) opening the season to the PUP list. Schneidman says that Golden should be in contention for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Footballguys view: The Athletic's Jeff Howe agreed with Schneidman's take, noting that Golden had a tremendous camp, to the point where it might not be all that shocking if he quickly becomes quarterback Jordan Love's go-to wide receiver. He was turning heads early in the offseason, and he maintained that momentum through the summer. Having a true alpha receiver might be good news across the board -- for the Packers and fantasy investors. |
Dallas Cowboys WR KaVontae Turpin is likely to be 'more involved' in the team's offense this season, in the opinion of The Athletic's Jon Machota, who notes that Turpin was used 'in a variety of ways' during the preseason, including hand-offs and downfield shots. Machota adds that Turpin is 'in position to have his most impactful season to date.'
Footballguys view: Throughout the offseason, Brian Schottenheimer has made it clear that the Cowboys plan to get the All-Pro return specialist more involved in the offense. Turpin saw reps at wide receiver and running back during OTAs and training camp, and is the front-runner to win the team's WR3 role. USA Today's Cameron DaSilva shares in Machota's optimism: With CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens destined to be 1,000-yard receivers, we shouldn't be surprised if Turpin "turns in an 800-yard (from scrimmage), six-touchdown campaign," DaSilva wrote. While that seems optimistic, fantasy managers should have Turpin on their waiver-wire watchlist heading into the season. |
Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan was already expected to be a big part of the team's passing game, according to Joseph Person of The Athletic, and now that the team has traded away WR Adam Thielen (to the Minnesota Vikings) and WR Jalen Coker (quad) has landed on Injured Reserve, Person believes McMillan will top 1,000 yards in receiving as a rookie. Person adds that McMillan and QB Bryce Young developed chemistry working out together before the draft, and Young will 'rely heavily' on McMillan this season.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the Panthers believe the improvement Young showed toward the end of last season will carry over into 2025. Coaches feel like Young has turned a corner in terms of his confidence and outward competitiveness. That's why they were aggressive in finding a true WR1 for Young. McMillan is a big-bodied wideout who brings plenty to the table, finishing fifth in the FBS with 109.9 receiving yards per game last season. His strong hands, wide catch radius, and diverse route tree will allow him to become a reliable target for Young quickly. |
Kansas City Chiefs WR Jalen Royals (knee) did not participate in practice Sunday, Aug. 31.
Footballguys view: Royals has been dealing with knee tendonitis since the team's second preseason game against Seattle. The club initially hoped Royals would be available in Week 1, but Sunday's update suggests the rookie may wait another week before his NFL debut. As ChiefsDigest.com notes, with receiver Rashee Rice suspended for the first six weeks of the season, the Chiefs will lean on Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, and JuJu Smith-Schuster in Friday's opener against the Chargers. |
Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers WR Jalen Coker's (quadriceps) quadriceps injury is the same injured quadriceps that made him miss three games last season, a source told The Athletic's Joseph Person.
Footballguys view: Again, reports out of Carolina on Sunday suggested a six-week absence is possible. We know for sure Coker will miss four games after being placed on IR. Hunter Renfrow re-signed with the club to help fill the void in the slot. |
Jacksonville Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter (undisclosed) is expected to play in the Week 1 game, but head coach Liam Coen said the team has not decided how he will be used during the game. Coen said Hunter missing practice time affects how he will be used during the game.
Footballguys view: "We're still working through it right now," Coen said after Monday's practice. "He obviously missed a lot of time there that can impact playing anybody, nonetheless, a rookie that misses quite a bit of time. So what that usage looks like, we're still working through." USA Today's Paul Bretl wrote, "If I were to guess, I could see [Hunter] having more snaps at wide receiver, with some opportunities at cornerback during obvious passing situations, where his ball skills can be on full display." Fantasy investors looking for some clarity on all this might not get it until Sundays this fall. |
Los Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris (eye) said he expects to be available for the Week 1 game.
Footballguys view: "I'm ramping up to it," he told The Athletic's Daniel Popper. Harris did not want to get into any details on what happened in the fireworks accident, but he said his vision has not been affected and called the eye injury "superficial." We'll be watching for more on Harris' progress as Friday's kickoff in Brazil draws nearer. What we know now, however, is that Harris is eager to hit the field. Having Harris and first-round pick Omarion Hampton in the backfield could help keep the Chiefs' offense off the field as much as possible. |

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown (hamstring) fully participated in practice Monday, Sept. 1, and is not on the injury report for Week 1.
Footballguys view: Remember, Brown has already confirmed he plans to play against the Cowboys Thursday night. Assuming he isn't added to the injury report today or Wednesday, it seems fantasy investors can roll Brown out without concern. We'll continue watching for more. |

Chicago Bears RB D'Andre Swift will see 'plentiful' opportunities as both a runner and receiver this season, in the opinion of The Athletic's Dan Wiederer, who notes that there is 'little proven depth' in the backfield behind Swift, and that new head coach Ben Johnson is 'devoted' to the running game.

Los Angeles Rams OT Alaric Jackson (illness) will be evaluated during the week but is on track to play in Week 1, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (back) is expected to play in the Week 1 game, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: After practicing fully all last week without setbacks -- including participating in 11-on-11 drills -- Stafford appears on track. McVay's confidence is evident. Of course, that assurance comes with a caveat: Stafford is managing a lingering back injury, and though he's deemed "ready to play," there's widespread concern about whether he can play well when hit. We'll find out more about that Sunday, when the Rams take on a tough Texans defense. |

Denver Broncos TE Nate Adkins (ankle) did not participate in practice Monday, Sept. 1.
Link to storyDenver Broncos WR Marvin Mims (groin) participated in practice Monday, Sept. 1.
Footballguys view: We've been monitoring this injury since it was first reported last week. That Mims is back on the field is obviously a positive. As we previously noted, Mims can be the no.2 receiver for the Broncos opposite of Courtland Sutton. In addition to his work on offense, Mims is an All-Pro return man. Fantasy GMs can look at Mims as a big-play dependent flex option if healthy. |
Cleveland Browns TE Blake Whiteheart (knee) participated in practice Monday, Sept. 1.

On Sunday, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer provided an encouraging response to a reader question about Quinshon Judkins' status: "I believe Judkins will be back with the Browns soon, possibly even sometime this week as they prepare for the Bengals. If he makes it back early enough in the week, he could contribute some in the opener."
Footballguys view: As PFT's Mike Florio notes, some believe that if Judkins shows up before the league resolves his Personal Conduct Policy case, he'll be placed on paid leave. Regardless, the first game is six days away. Even if Judkins signs today -- and isn't put on paid leave -- it's hard to imagine him being ready to play on Sunday without getting a single rep in training camp. That doesn't mean he won't have value over time. Fantasy investors heading into their final drafts with room on their rosters could do worse than drafting him late as a contingent-upside play. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Cade Otton (leg) participated in practice Monday, Sept. 1.
Footballguys view: While we don't yet know what Otton's level of participation was today, the fact that he was on the field at all is a positive after we heard last week that this injury could sideline the veteran tight end for Sunday's regular-season opener on the road against Atlanta. As CBSSports.com noted, Wednesday's first official practice report of the week will officially disclose Otton's activity level as the weekend draws near. Stay tuned for more. |
Los Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris (eye) has a chance to play in the Week 1 game, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Footballguys view: This has to be viewed as a best-case scenario for Harris. As SI.com suggested, it's a mild surprise he could even be available after his limited showings in training camp in the wake of an eye injury suffered during a fireworks accident. As such, one would think he's behind first-rounder Omarion Hampton in the rotation for now. We'll continue to watch his progress in advance of Friday's game against the Chiefs in Brazil. |

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston (head) has cleared the concussion protocol, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Footballguys view: As SI.com reminded readers, Johnston was on the wrong end of a nasty hit in the preseason that caused the NFL to fine the defender. He's in the mix with Ladd McConkey and Keenan Allen for a starter's share of the snaps on Friday, though rookies Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith still have upside. |

Atlanta Falcons WR Darnell Mooney (shoulder) participated in the team's walkthrough Monday, Sept. 1, and head coach Raheem Morris said the team feels good about here he is with his health.
Footballguys view: After injuring his shoulder at the team's first training camp practice on July 24, Mooney finally returned to the practice field last week. As USA Today suggested, some feared Mooney would be placed on the injured reserve list to begin the year, but he appears on track to start against the Buccaneers this Sunday. Last season, Mooney nearly recorded the second 1,000-yard campaign of his NFL career but missed the season finale and finished with 992 yards. The former Bears receiver should be heavily featured on offense yet again in 2025. We'll monitor his progress closely in coming days. |
