Carolina Panthers RB Rico Dowdle appears to be in line for a bulk of the carries, and head coach Dave Canales indicated that the two-week rotation with RB Chuba Hubbard could be abandoned. 'We love tempo and violence that he is running with,' Canales said Tuesday, Oct. 28. 'These are things we are looking back on the last four games and really taking a snapshot of what has been successful for us.'
Footballguys view: Dowdle is producing more than Chuba Hubbard, and the Panthers are moving to adjust their plan. That means Dowdle could be in line for more work, and Hubbard will serve more as a reserve. Keeping that in mind, Fantasy GMs should consider Dowdle an RB2/flex option and Hubbard as a RB3/deep flex play.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell's (wrist) 21-day practice window opened Wednesday, Oct. 29, as he was designated to return from the Reserve/Injured list.
Footballguys view: With the struggles of the offense under Geno Smith, there's a chance we could see O'Connell later this year. Keep this in mind when playing in deeper start-2QB/superflex leagues.
Detroit Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson agreed to a four-year, $180 million extension Wednesday, Oct. 29. The deal guarantees him $141 million and pays $45 milion annually.
Footballguys view: This is the highest non-QB guarantees in league history. Hutchinson is now signed with the Lions through 2030, and they're glad to get the contract done. He's arguably the best pass-rusher in the league and a leader for the Lions defense.
Free-agent TE Marcedes Lewis (Bears) signed an undisclosed deal with the Denver Broncos Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Flacco (shoulder) is up in the air for Week 9 with a sprained right AC joint, according to head coach Zac Taylor.
Footballguys view: Flacco was banged up in Week 8, left briefly during the game, but he came back to finish the contest. He's a seasoned veteran, so Flacco does not have to get every practice rep this week. Let's see what he can do on Friday at the latest.

Updating previous reports, New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo (ankle) suffered a dislocated ankle, fibula fracture and deltoid ligament rupture.
Footballguys view: He faces a four-to-six-month recovery window, which means he should be ready for OTAs. The Giants should ease Skattebo back into action when he's ready next offseason. The question is; who will be coaching this team then? The fan-favorite power back may have to impress a whole new Giants staff in 2026.
Free-agent S C.J. Gardner-Johnson (Texans) signed an undisclosed deal with the Chicago Bears Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Miami Dolphins WR/KR Dee Eskridge (shoulder) said Tuesday, Oct. 28 that he is fine and he plans to play in Week 9 against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, Oct. 30. Among NFL players with at least 15 kickoff returns, he ranks fourth with an average of 26.6 yards per return.

New York Giants WR Malik Nabers (knee) underwent surgery on Tuesday, Oct. 28. There is no timetable for his return in 2026.
Footballguys view: Tuesday marked one month since Nabers tore his ACL, but delays like this are the norm when multiple ligaments are damaged. Doctors prefer to let the other issues heal so the ACL rehab can begin immediately after surgery. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Nabers should be ready for the start of next season, but it's a situation we'll have to monitor all offseason.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson says he's finally ready to get back on the field Thursday night against the Dolphins, and he's thrilled about that. "Extremely excited. Can't wait to touch the grass with my guys. It's been a while," Jackson said today.
Footballguys view: Jackson injured his hamstring one month ago in a loss to the Chiefs, and he said it was tough having to stay out, but he said he now feels great and appreciates the Ravens' training staff working with him every day to get him right. Asked if he'll have to be more aware of his injured hamstring on Thursday night, Jackson said that won't be his focus. "I don't foresee any of that," Jackson said. "I'm focused on winning." We'll continue to follow up, but Jackson immediately moves back into the top five at his position this week.

Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels (hamstring) will practice on Wednesday, Oct. 29, according to head coach Dan Quinn.
Footballguys view: Daniels sat out Washington's loss to the Chiefs on Monday after injuring his hamstring in Week 7. The second-year man has missed three starts due to injury so far this year. He previously was out with a knee issue. The 2024 AP offensive rookie of the year, Daniels has completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,031 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception so far in 2025. He's also rushed for 211 yards with one TD. We'll be watching for more on this in coming days.
Los Angeles Chargers RB Nyheim Hines was released on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (hamstring) was at practice on Tuesday, Oct. 28. It was his fifth straight practice he has participated in.
Footballguys view: Jackson practiced in full on Monday, and head coach John Harbaugh told reporters Monday night that his star quarterback would return to action after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury. Jackson moves right into the top five at his position -- perhaps even at the high end of that range this week, Miami's impressive defensive outing against the Falcons on Sunday notwithstanding. We'll continue to watch this one, but it appears Jackson is fully on track.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco (knee) is considered 'week-to-week' following an MCL sprain suffered in the team's Week 8 win over the Washington Commanders.
Footballguys view: Pacheco limped off the field during the fourth quarter after sustaining a hard hit to his leg. He didn't return to the lopsided win and finished the night with 12 carries for 58 yards. There is video of Pacheco looking very relieved after a trainer checked the knee, but he's likely to miss time. The Chiefs also have Kareem Hunt, Elijah Mitchell, and Brashard Smith currently on their roster at running back. Hunt is tied with Patrick Mahomes for the team lead with four rushing touchdowns. Hunt also leads the team with 23 first downs via rush.
New England Patriots CB/PR Marcus Jones agreed to a three-year extension Tuesday, Oct. 28. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Link to storyNew Orleans Saints QB Tyler Shough will start in place of QB Spencer Rattler in Week 9, according to head coach Kellen Moore.
Footballguys view: Moore benched Rattler in favor of Shough midway through Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers. This week's game against the Rams will be Shough's first NFL start. He completed 17 of 30 passes for 128 yards, one interception, and no touchdowns against the Bucs after entering with the team trailing 17-3. Before Sunday's loss, the rookie had only seen limited action at the end of a blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3. The hope is that a full week of first-team reps will help Shough, but a tough Rams defense will be a challenge.
Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy (ankle) is expected to return for Week 9 against the Detroit Lions.
Footballguys view: McCarthy's first two starts of 2025 this season were a mixed bag. In the season opener, he led a furious comeback to beat the Bears, accounting for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. But in the other seven quarters, he completed 55 percent of his passes for 214 yards while committing four turnovers and taking nine sacks. McCarthy needed time to adapt to the speed of the NFL game. We're about to find out if it was enough time for Kevin O'Connell to leverage what McCarthy does well and to hide what he doesn't.
Updating previous reports, Minnesota Vikings QB Carson Wentz (shoulder) played with a torn labrum and fractured socket caused by a dislocation he suffered in the left shoulder Oct. 5. He is out for the season.
Footballguys view: Wentz went 15-of-27 passing for 144 yards with a touchdown and an interception in Thursday's loss, and he was incredibly frustrated on the sideline while battling through the injury. "I asked him multiple times where he was at," Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said after that game. "He said he was good and wanted to keep going." Wentz will finish the season with 1,216 passing yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions. The 32-year-old will undergo surgery in the near future. J.J. McCarthy is expected to start this week.

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce had six receptions (on eight targets) for 99 yards and a touchdown during the team's Week 8 win against the Washington Commanders. The touchdown was the 83rd of Kelce's career in the regular season for the Chiefs, matching former RB Priest Holmes for the most in franchise history.
Footballguys view: Including playoffs, the score was Kelce's 100th career touchdown catch. Mahomes and Kelce became the 10th passer-receiver duo with 75 TDs, according to NFL Research. Kelce put up season-highs in catches and yards, finding himself uncovered at times. Kelce finished the week as TE2 with 21.9 points.

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (hamstring) fully participated in practice Monday, Oct. 27. The team only held a walkthrough Monday, so this is an estimation.
Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com reminded readers, Jackson's status for Sunday's game against the Bears was a source of some confusion over the weekend, but head coach John Harbaugh was a little clearer about how things look for this week. Harbaugh said the plan is for Jackson to play against the Dolphins on Thursday night. "I feel very confident," Harbaugh said at a Monday press conference. "I feel very confident about it. We expect him to be out there Thursday night." Stay tuned. We'll be watching this closely right up through kickoff, starting with his final injury designation on Wednesday.

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) is considered day-to-day leading up to the Week 9 game, according to head coach Raheem Morris.
Footballguys view: Penix was held out of Week 8 due to a bone bruise on his knee. Morris suggested the injury isn't serious, but we're still "kind of in a wait-and-see mode." But the Falcons couldn't have been pleased with Kirk Cousins' work against the Dolphins. Atlanta went three-and-out on four of their first five possessions and only managed a field goal on the other against a team that had allowed at least 27 points to everyone except the Jets. The Falcons will face the New England Patriots on the road in Week 9.
San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy (toe) is not considered a long shot to play in Week 9, but the team will see how he feels Wednesday, Oct. 29, and if he can take part in practice, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Footballguys view: Purdy has been sidelined by a toe injury, but took part in practice on a limited basis every day last week before being ruled out. Shanahan said he'll have a better idea about the quarterback's outlook when the team is back at work in a couple of days. "I don't think it's a long shot, but I know he is doing better and we'll see how he's doing Wednesday," Shanahan said. Mac Jones has been starting in Purdy's place, and Shanahan called him day-to-day with a bruised knee. Stay tuned.
Indianapolis Colts TE Tyler Warren (head) did not need to be placed in the concussion protocol after the Week 8 game, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Footballguys view: As SBNation characterized it, Warren finished the game with "what seems like a pedestrian four catches for 53 yards," but it was another solid outing for the young tight end. He could have had a bigger day, but he slipped on a screen pass that had touchdown potential. The Colts play the Steelers, who give up the second-most points to tight ends this season, in Week 9.
