Ed Thompson, of Scout.com, reports the Detroit Lions have released RB Aveion Cason, according to a league source.

Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions RB Antone Smith will need to show some skills as a return man if he wants to make the final roster. He will be competing with RB Aveion Cason and RB Aaron Brown for the No. 3 running back job.
| Footballguys view: Smith is an impressive runner who can be effectively used in space where he can use his elusiveness to get by defenders. He'll never be confused as a between the tackles RB, but he can get a lot of yardage on screen passes, draw plays, and sweeps. Smith could be used as a return man, but the Lions may decide to keep him on the practice squad if he doesn't make the final roster. |
