49ers | San Francisco eliminated in emphatic fashion    Sat Jan 17, 11:37 PM

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy completed 15 of his 27 passes for 140 yards and an interception and rushed five times for 37 yards and lost a fumble in a 41-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round. RB Christian McCaffrey (stinger) dealt with a stinger but managed 11 carries for 35 yards and caught five passes for 39 yards, and RB Jordan James added six carries for 28 yards and caught a seven-yard pass. TE Jake Tonges (foot) caught five passes for a team-high 59 yards before exiting with a foot injury, and WR Jauan Jennings had two grabs for 23 yards. WR Ricky Pearsall and WR Kendrick Bourne were both targeted twice, but neither caught a pass, and WR Demarcus Robinson gained a yard on his only catch. LB Dee Winters tied for the team lead with nine tackles, including three tackles for loss, and LB Eric Kendricks also had nine stops. S Malik Mustapha chipped in eight tackles and a sack.

Footballguys view: The 49ers offense came in shorthanded due to injuries and then lost Jake Tonges during the game and also didn't have Christian McCaffrey for part of the game. It was just too much for them to overcome against a great and balanced team like Seattle. The 49ers overachieved when you consider what they lost to injury, but the team needs to figure out what they seem to have such bad injury luck.

Broncos | Denver advances with overtime win    Sat Jan 17, 08:19 PM

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix completed 26 of his 46 passes for 279 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in a 33-30 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round. He also rushed 12 times for a team-high 29 yards. RB RJ Harvey finished with 20 rushing yards on six carries and caught five passes for 46 yards, and RB Jaleel McLaughlin gained 21 yards on four carries. WR Marvin Mims caught a touchdown while leading the team with both eight receptions and 93 receiving yards. WR Courtland Sutton finished with 53 yards on four receptions, and WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey caught two passes for 33 yards and a score. WR Pat Bryant (concussion) had three receptions for 32 yards before exiting the game, and TE Evan Engram caught one pass for seven yards. OT Frank Crum chipped in a seven-yard touchdown catch. On the defensive side of the ball, LB Alex Singleton led the way with a team-high 14 tackles, including 11 solo stops. S Talanoa Hufanga had 10 tackles, including seven solo stops, and forced a fumble. S P.J. Locke had nine tackles and an interception, and DE Malcolm Roach had five tackles, 1.5 sacks and three quarterback hits.

Footballguys view: Nix made big throws in the first half and then late in the fourth quarter, but Josh Allen was able to overcome three turnovers in regulation to send the game to overtime. Nix led the team to a game-winning field goal after Allen's fourth turnover in overtime, but broke his ankle on the next to last play of the drive and will not be able to play in the AFC Championship game. Jarrett Stidham will start in the biggest game of his life as the Broncos will look to shock the football world by winning with their unheralded backup quarterback.

Bills | Buffalo bounced from playoffs in overtime    Sat Jan 17, 08:17 PM

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen completed 25 of his 39 pass attempts for 283 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in a 33-30 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the Divisional Round. He added 12 carries for 66 yards and lost two fumbles, and RB James Cook rushed 24 times for 117 yards, caught two passes for 24 yards and lost a fumble. RB Ray Davis didn't log a carry, but he did catch two passes for 33 yards. TE Dalton Kincaid caught six passes for a team-high 83 yards and a score, and WR Khalil Shakir finished with 75 receiving yards on a team-high seven receptions. WR Keon Coleman caught a 10-yard touchdown, and WR Mecole Hardan hauled in a four-yard score. TE Dawson Knox added three receptions for 32 yards, and WR Brandin Cooks caught two passes for 20 yards. S Cole Bishop recorded a team-high 12 tackles, including seven solo stops and two tackles for loss, and CB Cam Lewis finished with 10 tackles and two passes defensed.

Footballguys view: A team can't expect to turn the ball over five times and win on the road in the playoffs, and yet the Bills had multiple to chance to do just that despite being down 23-10 in the second half. This one will haunt Josh Allen the most, as he hadn't committed a turnover in a long time in the postseason coming into this game. The Bills will go into another offseason wondering how to keep this from happening again.

Texans | Houston rides dominant defense to Divisional Round    Tue Jan 13, 12:15 AM

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud completed 21 of 32 passes for 250 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in a 30-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wild Card Weekend. Stroud also fumbled five times, losing two. RB Woody Marks ran the ball 19 times for 112 yards and a touchdown. RB Nick Chubb had 10 carries for 48 yards. WR Christian Kirk tallied eight receptions (on nine targets) for 144 yards and a score. WR Jayden Higgins finished with three catches for 39 yards, and WR Xavier Hutchinson managed 21 yards on two grabs. WR Jaylin Noel was targeted once but did not have a catch. DT Sheldon Rankins had 1 1/2 sacks and a fumble recovery that he returned for a score. S Calen Bullock had three solo tackles and an interception that was taken back for a touchdown.

Footballguys view: The Texans will take on the Patriots in a Divisional Playoff game Sunday afternoon. Houston heads to New England as the hottest team in the NFL with a quarterback who will be eager for a chance at a reprieve and a defense that can keep a game close against any opponent. The injury status of Nico Collins, who suffered a concussion in Pittsburgh, will merit our attention.

Patriots | Pats ride defense into Divisional Round    Sun Jan 11, 11:14 PM

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye completed 17 of his 29 passes for 268 yards, a touchdown and an interception, and he rushed seven times for a team-high 69 yards in a 16-3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card game. Maye also lost a fumble. RB Rhamondre Stevenson finished with 10 carries for 53 yards and caught three passes for a team-best 75 yards, and RB TreVeyon Henderson gained just 11 yards on seven carries while catching one pass for nine yards. WR Kayshon Boutte hauled in four passes for 66 yards, and TE Hunter Henry turned three catches into 64 yards and a score. WR Stefon Diggs was limited to 16 yards on two receptions, and Efton Chism III caught a 20-yard pass and failed to complete his only pass attempt. WR Kyle Williams ended up with one catch for seven yards, and WR Demario Douglas gained three yards on his only catch.   Jaguars | Jacksonville eliminated in AFC wild-card game    Sun Jan 11, 04:22 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence completed 18-of-30 passes for 207 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, while running six times for 31 yards. RB Travis Etienne Jr. rushed 10 times for a game-high 67 yards, while RB Bhayshul Tuten ran four times for 51 yards. On the receiving end, WR Parker Washington hauled in seven receptions for a game-best 107 yards and a touchdown, while Etienne added five grabs for 49 yards and a score, and WR Brian Thomas Jr. had two catches for 21 yards and a TD. WR Jakobi Meyers was targeted four times, but managed just a single 12-yard catch, while TE Brenton Strange converted his five targets into just two grabs and nine yards. LB Devin Lloyd led the way with five solo tackles, an assist and a fumble recovery, while S Eric Murray had seven total stops and four solo tackles, and DE Josh Hines-Allen had four total stops, three solo tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and two quarterback hits.

Footballguys view: It wasn't a flawless game by Lawrence, but it would have been good enough to beat most of the teams in the AFC playoff bracket, and he was productive against a good Bills pass defense. The Jaguars were stopped on fourth down inside the Bills 10 after recovering a Ray Davis fumbled kickoff return and Cam Little missed a 54-yard field goal attempt at the half awarded on a controversial call. You can't expect to beat Josh Allen in the postseason when you miss multiple scoring opportunities. The future is still bright for this team and for Lawrence (who will get Travis Hunter back). The biggest decision this offseason will be whether to sign Travis Etienne, who is due to hit free agency in March.

Dolphins | Miami interviews Klint Kubiak    Sat Jan 10, 08:20 PM

The Miami Dolphins announced that they have completed an interview with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak for their vacant head coaching position on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Footballguys view: Kubiak is one of the hottest names available this offseason. He runs a West Coast/Shanahan system that emphasizes wide-zone concepts and a strong rushing attack to set up play-action passing. Hiring Kubiak would be great for the Dolphins backfield, but we need to see how the quarterback situation shakes out for 2026 and beyond before we get too excited about any coaching hire.

Rams | LAR moves on to Divisional Round    Sat Jan 10, 07:40 PM

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford went 24-for-42 for 304 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against the Carolina Panthers in the Wild Card playoff game. RB Kyren Williams rushed for 57 yards on 13 carries and also caught two passes for 18 yards and one touchdown. RB Blake Corum rushed for 45 yards on 11 carries and caught two passes for 13 yards. WR Puka Nacua caught 10 passes for 111 yards and one touchdown on 18 targets. WR Davante Adams caught five passes for 72 yards on 13 targets. TE Tyler Higbee caught two passes for 45 yards on three targets, while TE Colby Parkinson caught two passes for 34 yards and one touchdown on three targets. S Kamren Curl recorded five solo tackles and 10 total tackles, while LB Nathan Landman posted four solo tackles and 10 total tackles.

Footballguys view: Stafford struggled at times, but he led the team to the win late in the fourth quarter. Nacua and Adams were stars at the wide receiver position, and guys like Higbee and Parkinson made plays when they needed to at tight end. The Rams get this tough win on the road as they continue to march towards a Super Bowl.
