Los Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton was called the 'total package' by offensive coordinator Greg Roman. 'You don't see a lot of guys find a hole like he's doing right now,' Roman said.
Footballguys view: Hampton is a player who can play on all three downs. He's a powerful runner with a smooth stride, and Hampton can wear down a defense as the game goes on. In addition to what he can do as a runner, Hampton is a good receiver out of the backfield. We'll see how it unfolds this year with Hampton splitting time with Najee Harris. |
Los Angeles Chargers TE Oronde Gadsden II has been impressive during minicamp, according to ESPN's Kris Rhim, who writes that the rookie 'projects to be a key piece' in LA's offensive attack. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman remarked that he thinks Gadsden will 'ascend quickly.'
Footballguys view: Gadsen is a tight end with freakish athletic ability. A fifth-round pick out of Syracuse, Gadsen is tough to cover at the linebacker level. Right now, Gadsen is the no.3 tight end for the Chargers behind Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin. We appreciate Gadsen in dynasty formats, but his path to production this year has some roadblocks. |
Free-agent WR Willie Snead (Dolphins) is participating in the Los Angeles Chargers mandatory minicamp this week on a tryout basis.

Los Angeles Chargers OT Rashawn Slater was in attendance for the team's minicamp practice on Tuesday, June 10, marking his first appearance with the club this offseason. Slater, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal and seeking a contract extension, has skipped all of LA's voluntary activities this offseason.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said he plans on have WR Ladd McConkey line up at multiple spots this upcoming season.
Footballguys view: McConkey had a phenomenal rookie campaign. He finished with a team-high 1,149 receiving yards on 82 catches while adding seven touchdowns. The former Georgia product spent most of his time in the slot, but it makes sense to make it harder for defenses to plan for him -- and easier for Roman to create mismatches with him. McConkey is being drafted as WR11 with the 22nd pick overall. |
Los Angeles Chargers WR Tre Harris has worked periodically with the first-team offense during OTAs, and wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal said Harris is being brought along slowly while he acclimates to the NFL game.
Footballguys view: Harris has good speed and he knows how to use his frame to box out defenders. The slant is his go-to route, and the Chargers are likely drawing up more for the rookie receiver. It takes time for most receivers to get up to speed in the NFL, but we are monitoring Harris with great interest. |
Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston has been working with the starters during OTAs, and wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal said he expects Johnston to keep improving. 'He's a starter, because he is,' Lal said.
Footballguys view: We'll see a battle between Johnston and Mike Williams this offseason to be the Chargers no.2 receiver. Johnston has flashed during his pro career, and there's flex appeal if he wins the job and plays up to his potential in 2025. |

Los Angeles Chargers EDGE Bud Dupree received a one-year, $6 million extension Thursday, June 5.

Los Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris has ranked second to last in cumulative rushing EPA (Expected Points Added) since he entered the NFL in 2021, per ESPN's Bill Barnwell, who writes that Harris could be more productive in his new role as LA presents a better situation than the one he had during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Footballguys view: The Chargers have both Harris and rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton to soften up defenses in 2025. Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh said he plans to deploy Harris and Hampton as a "1-2 punch." A four-time 1,000-yard rusher, Harris is a power back who can live between the tackles. His numbers could be more efficient this year with his new team because he's splitting time in the backfield with Hampton. |

Los Angeles Chargers S Elijah Molden (knee) underwent surgery on his meniscus during the offseason but expects to be ready for training camp.

Los Angeles Chargers CB Cam Hart (shoulder) underwent surgery in January to repair a torn labrum he suffered during the team's Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans. Hart, who has not been medically cleared to return, expects to be back on the field for mandatory minicamp, which begins June 10.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers CB Cam Hart (shoulder) said he has not been medically cleared yet after suffering a torn labrum in the 2024 NFL playoffs.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers WR Tre Harris 'fits the mold' of what LA needs from its outside wide receivers, in the opinion of The Athletic's Daniel Popper, who writes that Harris' ability to 'attack defenses outside the numbers' should make opposing secondaries 'divide their attention' instead of focusing solely on stopping WR Ladd McConkey out of the slot.
Footballguys view: Harris can work all three levels of the field. He's got the run-after-the-catch ability to take short passes and turn them into long gains. He's got the fearlessness to work over the middle on intermediate routes. He's even got the late hands/ball-tracking to work as a downfield threat. With a nose for the end zone, Harris will be an interesting no.3 receiver for the Chargers...and a deep flex play for Fantasy GMs in deep leagues. |
Los Angeles Chargers LB Denzel Perryman (elbow) told reporters he has been cleared to return to football after suffering an elbow injury in the playoffs last season.

Los Angeles Chargers first-round draft choice Omarion Hampton (North Carolina) reportedly agreed to terms on a four-year contract with $17.77 million - including a $9.56 million signing bonus - on Monday, May 19.
Footballguys view: As Bleacher Report noted, the Chargers were high on Hampton heading into the draft, as head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team rejected multiple trade offers to keep their No. 22 selection. With Hampton on board, the Chargers have a talented duo in the backfield after signing free agent running back Najee Harris in March. Harris, gearing up for his fifth season, has rushed for more than 1,000 yards every year of his career thus far. Hampton and Harris should help a Los Angeles rushing attack that averaged just 110.7 rushing yards per game in 2024. Hampton is RB21 on the Footballguys Draft Projections for our purposes, while Harris is RB35. |
Los Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey's 15 receptions of 20-plus yards ranked third among rookies and 18th in the NFL while having the third-lowest rate of vertical routes run last season.
Footballguys view: McConkey can take short passes and turn them into long gains. He changes direction quickly, and quickly became a favorite target of QB Justin Herbert. In the Wild Card loss to the Texans, McConkey set an NFL record with 197 yards (the most by a rookie in league history). In PPR formats, McConkey is a set-it-and-forget-it starter as a WR2. |
Free-agent LB Kana'i Mauga (Raiders) signed an undisclosed contract with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday, May 13. LB Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste was waived to make room for him on the 90-man roster.

Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers third-round draft choice DT Jamaree Caldwell, fourth-round draft choice LB Kyle Kennard, fifth-round draft choice WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith, fifth-round draft choice TE Oronde Gadsden II, sixth-round draft choice OG Branson Taylor, sixth-round draft choice S R.J. Mickens and seventh-round draft choice CB Trikweze Bridges signed four-year contracts with the Chargers Friday, May 9. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Orande Gadsen II is a player with a freakish athletic skill set. He's a weapon as a tight end, and Gadsen can use a blend of size and speed to make plays. Gadsen will learn behind Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin in his rookie season, but he's got the upside to one day be a starter. |
Los Angeles Chargers LB Chris Collins was released Friday, May 9.
Link to storyThe Los Angeles Chargers did not exercise the fifth-year option on OG Zion Johnson, per The Athletic's Daniel Popper.
Link to storyThe NFL's morning transaction report for Tuesday shows that the Chargers have applied the tender to running back J.K. Dobbins, who became a free agent at the start of the league year in March.
Footballguys view: Under the terms of the tender, the Chargers will have exclusive negotiating rights with Dobbins if he has not signed with a team at the start of training camp. He would make $3.428 million if he played out the year under the tender. If Dobbins does sign with another team, the move will still count in the compensatory pick formula for both the Chargers and Dobbins' new team. The Chargers signed Najee Harris as a free agent and drafted Omarion Hampton in the first round, so a Dobbins return would give them a lot of depth in the backfield, which is likely more depth than fantasy investors would prefer. |

Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnson, the team's first-round pick in 2023, will "have to earn his roster spot" in training camp, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Popper has rookie Tre Harris starting alongside Mike Williams and Ladd McConkey in three-wide sets, bringing up the possibility of moving rookie KeAndre Lambert-Smith onto the field when they "need more speed." None of this sets up especially well for Johnston, the last pick of the Tom Telesco regime. Johnson struggled with poor route running and repeated drops as a rookie. He improved last year with a 55/711/8 receiving line, but he may be fighting for one of the last spots on the roster this year if everyone makes it through training camp without an injury. Meanwhile, Harris, a second-round pick this year, is a player to watch. |

Eric Smith, from Chargers.com, reports Los Angeles Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh plans to deploy rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton and free agent addition RB Najee Harris as a 1-2 punch. "I look at Najee and Omarion -- both starters. He brings that same type of mentality Najee brings. Like I said last week, we're looking for someone who complements but also offers the same." Harbaugh said.
Footballguys view: The Chargers are going to run the ball early and often, so the veteran and rookie will be splitting touches. Harris can be the early-down back, and Hampton can be the best option on passing downs. If Harris gets banged up, Hampton has the ability to take over the backfield and doesn't need to come off the field. He's got RB1 fantasy potential, but in this committee Hampton may be more like a flex play with upside. |

Link to storyMississippi WR Tre Harris was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers with the 55th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton offers 'considerably more juice' than veteran RB Najee Harris and has the potential to be the full-time No. 1 back as a rookie, in the opinion of The Athletic's Daniel Popper, who adds that Hampton can 'change the identity' of LA's offense.
Footballguys view: Hampton is a powerful runner who chooses violence with the ball in his hands. He has good vision and will punish opponents who meet him in the hole. Hampton is also a good receiving option out of the backfield, so he could have a three-down role if called upon. It will be interesting to see how Hampton works in concert with Harris in the Chargers backfield. |
