Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston (concussion) sustained a concussion on a big hit during the third play of the preseason game versus the Los Angeles Rams Saturday, Aug. 16. According to head coach Jim Harbaugh, Johnston remembered the play and was able to stand under his own power before walking over to the cart that removed him from the field. He was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston (neck) was down on the field for several minutes after taking a big hit during the preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams Saturday, Aug. 16. Johnston was eventually able to stand before being carted off.
Footballguys view: Johnston was on the field ahead of rookies Tre Harris and Keandre Lambert-Smith, and was the #2 receiver, with Keenan Allen operating as the #3. This was reported later as a concussion. We'll be monitoring for updates, but know that if healthy, Johnston is still in a big role in this passing game. |

Los Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton will rotate with another back in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs, even if RB Najee Harris (eye) isn't ready to start the season, offensive coordinator Greg Roman indicated Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Footballguys view: The Chargers should run the heck out of the ball this year, and that's going to come with two backs getting the workload. Hampton has the makings of a star in this league, but he will be splitting time and getting a breather. Harris should be that guy to work in tandem with the rookie in the Chargers backfield. |
Los Angeles Chargers RBs Hassan Haskins, Nyheim Hines, Raheim Sanders and Kimani Vidal continue to vie for the third-string running back job behind RBs Najee Harris and rookie Omarion Hampton. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman said Tuesday, Aug. 12, that the race is 'wide open.'

Los Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris (eye) was able to run and participate in drills with a football Tuesday, Aug. 12, for the first time during training camp. He was working off to the side with an athletic trainer during the team practice. His agent reiterated that Harris is expected to be ready for the regular season.
Footballguys view: The progression to running and doing football drills at practice is a positive sign for Harris. A picture posted to Harris' Snapchat on Aug. 6 showed him with his left eye completely shut. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said last Friday, however, that Harris can open his eye. Meanwhile, offensive coordinator Greg Roman said that even if Harris isn't back for Week 1, rookie Omarion Hampton will rotate with another running back. Kimani Vidal, Raheim Sanders, Hassan Haskins, and Nyheim Miller-Hines are the players vying for that third-team spot. |

Los Angeles Chargers OT Mekhi Becton (undisclosed) did not practice again Tuesday, Aug. 12, although he worked out in the weight room. He hasn't practiced in two full weeks due to an undisclosed injury. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman is hopeful Becton will be ready for Week 1.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey (undisclosed) was able to take part in 11-on-11 drills in practice Tuesday, Aug. 12. 'I feel like I'm there now,' McConkey said about his undisclosed injury. 'It's just about building everything back up...getting my conditioning back to where it needs to be.'
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers WR Tre Harris has seen his first training camp 'marred by inconsistency,' according to ESPN's Kris Rhim, who writes that Harris had two dropped balls in practice on Friday, Aug. 9, but also had a contested catch for a touchdown. Rhim indicated that Harris' play in camp has 'fluctuated between exemplary and poor.'
Footballguys view: Harris had 15 drops in college at Ole Miss, including five in eight games as a senior. He'll need to rectify that to earn playing time as a rookie this season. With Keenan Allen returning to the team, Harris will have to work to earn a contributing role off the bench. Footballguy Matt Waldman suggests Harris will likely generate enough big plays to get fans and fantasy analysts excited and calling for him ahead of Quentin Johnston -- even if the consistency doesn't merit it. |
Los Angeles Chargers CB Eric Rogers (ankle) suffered an ankle injury on kickoff coverage in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 10 against the New Orleans Saints, and he was on crutches after the game. He had two interceptions before the injury, including a pick-six.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers CB Deane Leonard (leg) left the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 10 against the New Orleans Saints due to an apparent left leg injury.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers CB Eric Rogers had five total stops, including four of the solo variety, while adding three passes defended and two interceptions, including a 43-yard pick-six, in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 10 against the New Orleans Saints.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers RB Kimani Vidal fan six times for just 16 yards in Sunday's preseason win over the New Orleans Saints. He is battling Hassan Haskins and Raheim Sanders for the No. 3 job behind Najee Harris and rookie Omarion Hampton.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers QB Trey Lance completed 7-of-14 passes for 55 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 10 against the New Orleans Saints, and he ran seven times for a game-best 48 yards and a touchdown.

Los Angeles Chargers OT Rashawn Slater (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday, Aug. 9.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris (eye) isn't a guarantee to play in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil. Head coach Jim Harbaugh was non-committal about the tailback's potential to play in the regular-season opener. 'There's a chance he is,' Harbaugh said Friday, Aug. 8, when asked if there is a chance Harris won't be ready. 'I don't comment because I'm not a doctor. I'm not Mr. Harris' agent, either. I'm talking about what I know, and 'Can he open his eye?' 'Yeah'. I've looked into his eye. I can tell you stuff like that.'

Los Angeles Chargers TE Jordan Petaia (undisclosed) was moved to the Reserve/Injured Friday, Aug. 8, after clearing waivers.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, Los Angeles Chargers OT Rashawn Slater (knee) suffered a torn patellar tendon during practice Thursday, Aug. 7, and will miss the 2025 season. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on the injury and will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list.
Footballguys view: This is a big blow for the Chargers offense, although there's still room for growth with Justin Herbert much healthier than he was at this time last year, when he was battling plantar fasciitis. Herbert also has a year under his belt in the Harbaugh/Roman offense, and the team has made multiple additions to the wide receiver room, led by the return of Keenan Allen. |
Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert will not play in the preseason game Sunday, Aug. 10, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey (undisclosed) is participating in practice Friday, Aug. 8.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris (eye) still does not have a timetable for his return, and head coach Jim Harbaugh indicated that Harris' availability for Week 1 is uncertain.
Footballguys view: This injury is very mysterious, as it's hard to figure why an eye injury would relegate Harris such little physical activity. The door is wide open to Omarion Hampton taking over this backfield from day one. You'll need to take him in the third round of your redraft league if you want him. |

Los Angeles Chargers OT Joe Alt will be the starting left tackle this season with OT Rashawn Slater (knee) unavailable, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Link to storyFree-agent TE Bernhard Seikovits (Cardinals) recently worked out for the Los Angeles Chargers.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers OT Rashawn Slater (leg) was carted off the field Thursday, Aug. 7, after suffering an apparent left leg injury during practice.
Footballguys view: Less than two weeks ago, the Chargers signed Slater to a four-year, $114 million contract extension. He did battle foot problems this offseason, but apparently this injury has nothing to do with that. If he misses time, the Chargers offense would not look the same without one of their best linemen. |
Free-agent TE Thomas Yassmin (Broncos) signed with the Los Angeles Chargers Thursday, Aug. 7. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived/injured TE Jordan Petaia (undisclosed).
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers TE McCallan Castles was waived Wednesday, Aug. 6.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris (eye) is improving and walking laps around the practice field as part of his rehab, head coach Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday, Aug. 5. There is still no timetable for his return, as he makes his way back from a 'superficial' eye injury suffered during a fireworks incident in early July.

Free-agent WR Keenan Allen (Bears) is signing with the Los Angeles Chargers, and the deal is for one year and $8.52 million, a source said Tuesday, Aug. 5.
Footballguys view: Allen spent last season in Chicago after the Chargers traded their then-longest tenured player in an attempt to get under the cap. He caught 70 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns in the Caleb Williams-led offense but was not re-signed by Chicago. Now he returns to reunite with Justin Herbert on the team that drafted him. In his first stint with the Chargers, Allen compiled six 1,000-yard seasons -- including three straight between 2017 and 2019. He'll provide a strong veteran presence for a young receiving corps featuring Ladd McConkey, Tre Harris, Quentin Johnston, and KeAndre Lambert-Smith. |

Los Angeles Chargers WR Brenden Rice looks to be 'on the bubble,' in the opinion of ESPN's Kris Rhim, who notes that Rice played just nine snaps during the preseason opener against the Detroit Lions, which was the fewest of the team's receivers. Rice followed that up with his 'best training camp practice' on Sunday, Aug. 3.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers C Bradley Bozeman and OG Zion Johnson will reprise their roles from 2024 as the team's starting center and left guard, respectively, after both players spent time working at both positions during camp. Head coach Jim Harbaugh indicated that Bozeman as the center and Johnson as left guard represented the team's 'best five' offensive line combination.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 4.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Keenan Allen (Bears) had a successful workout with the Los Angeles Chargers last week and hopefully the two sides will be able to reach an agreement, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Najee Harris suffered an eye injury during an incident on the Fourth of July that has caused him to miss the majority of training camp. On Monday, head coach Jim Harbaugh shared an update on Harris that can be considered somewhat positive. Harbaugh shared with the media that Harris is getting better. The second-year head coach mentioned that Harris walking laps around the field is part of his rehab process. However, Harbaugh did not give an update on the timeline of the new Chargers' running back's return to practice.
Footballguys view: It seems that Harris, at least being active, is trending in the right direction. Harris has been a consistent 1,000-yard rusher in every season of his young NFL career, but he will have to play catch-up when he returns with rookie running back Omarion Hampton, who continues to shine during camp. We'll continue to watch for more. |

Los Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey (undisclosed) said Sunday, Aug. 3, that he is doing rehab for an undisclosed injury, and he is 'trying to get back to 100 percent' so he doesn't have a setback.
Link to storyLos Angeles LB Denzel Perryman was arrested on a felony weapons charge on Friday, Aug. 1.
Footballguys view: The Chargers have Junior Colson and Troy Dye behind Perryman, but they could also bring back Kyzir White, who is still a free agent, if they think they won't have Perryman for an extended time and don't feel comfortable with Colson or Dye starting. |

Fifth round pick KeAndre Lambert-Smith had two receptions for 43 yards for Detroit and a touchdown in the 34-7 win over Detroit
Footballguys view: Don't be surprised if Lambert-Smith is just as big a part of the passing game as second round pick Tre Harris. Lambert-Smith has better deep speed than Harris and has shown a "my ball" mentality in practice. He roasted coverage twice vs. the Lions and appears to be more polished as a route runner than advertised. He shouldn't be on the waiver wire in dynasty leagues unless benches aren't long enough to roster players who were going in the third/fourth round of rookie drafts. |
Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert told The Dan Patrick Show on Thursday, July 31, that he wants to scramble, extend pass plays with his legs and run the football more via designed run plays in 2025.
Footballguys view: Herbert had a foot injury going into the season and then played through an ankle sprain. It's very likely we haven't seen nearly the best of him for fantasy. He's a huge value in superflex leagues and worth taking as your QB2 in 1QB leagues even if you drafted an elite QB1. |

Los Angeles Chargers QB DJ Uiagalelei, the undrafted free-agent rookie, completed 2-of-3 passes for 25 yards in the Hall of Fame Game preseason victory over the Detroit Lions Thursday, July 31, and he also ran three times for minus-5 yards. He is vying for the primary backup job with QB Trey Lance.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton ran twice for just nine yards in the Hall of Fame Game preseason victory over the Detroit Lions Thursday, July 31, and he was not targeted in the passing game in his brief appearance.
