Bills | Maxwell Hairston sidelined with hamstring issue Fri Jun 13, 02:56 PM
Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills CB Maxwell Hairston (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury in practice on Wednesday, June 11, and did not practice on Thursday, June 12. According to general manager Brandon Beane, Hairston is receiving treatment on the injury and expected to be ready for the start of training camp next month.
Footballguys view: Hairston was presumably drafted to match with the speedy receivers the Bills will have to face in the playoffs. We'll be watching to see if he's ready for the open of camp and can stay healthy so he can suit up for the highly anticipated season opener against Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, DeAndre Hopkins and the rest of the Baltimore Ravens. |
Buffalo Bills first-round draft choice CB Maxwell Hairston (Kentucky) signed his four-year rookie contract on Friday, June 13. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, but the deal includes a fifth-year team option.

Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey is not at the team's minicamp Tuesday, June 10.
Footballguys view: Ramsey's absence is excused, per head coach Mike McDaniel, and therefore, he will not be fined. The Dolphins are in the process of trying to trade the Pro Bowl corner, so it makes sense that they wouldn't require his presence during minicamp. |

Free-agent CB Jaire Alexander (Packers) was the subject of trade talks between the Buffalo Bills and the Green Bay Packers before the Packers decided to release Alexander, according to sources.

Green Bay Packers CB Jaire Alexander was released Monday, June 9.
Footballguys view: The Packers have tried to trade Alexander this offseason, and they've also tried to work out a revised contract, but those efforts have been unsuccessful. Talent isn't the concern with the 28-year-old corner. When healthy, the 2018 first-round pick is one of the best cover men in the NFL. Instead, Alexander is on his way out after missing 34 games over the last four seasons. The timing of the release coincides with the Packers' opening of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. The Bills were among the teams discussing a possible trade, and they could pursue Alexander as a free agent. |

Houston Texans CB Ronald Darby announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, June 2.

Miami Dolphins CB Cam Smith (leg) suffered an apparent leg injury during practice Wednesday, May 28.
Footballguys view: A second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Smith has played 21 games in two pro seasons (with zero starts). He's been banged up quite a bit so far in his young pro career, but he's an athletic (and sometimes grabby) corner who doesn't back down from a challenge. The physical talent has always been there with Smith, but he needs to get healthy and stay healthy to further prove himself as a pro player (and possible starter). |

Miami Dolphins fifth-round draft choice CB Jason Marshall Jr. 'has a chance to be a really good player,' according to fellow teammate and cornerback Kader Kohou.'Man, he's a baller. He's quiet. He comes every day ready to work. He's like a sponge, he's always taking notes and stuff like that. He's big, athletic - he has a chance to be a really good player,' Kohou said recently.

Link to storyDenver Broncos CB Kris Abrams-Draine 'was probably the rookie that we felt was the furthest behind after OTAs and (last) summer,' but proved quickly that '(the NFL) wasn't too big for him,' according to general manager George Paton.'You saw that when we played the (Los Angeles) Chargers on Thursday night, and it wasn't too big for him. He started making plays. He has unique cover skills, really good instincts, and he doesn't get fazed. We're really encouraged with him,' Paton told reporters in March.

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills CB Tre'Davious White signed a one-year contract in April that could max out at $6.8 million. However, the deal will pay him a base salary of $1.56 million, a signing bonus of $1 million and guarantee him $2.2 million at signing along with some incentives and workout bonuses. All told, he will count only $2.88 million against the salary cap in 2025.

Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey continues to garner trade interest, but the team said nothing is imminent.
Footballguys view: While nothing may be imminent, Ramsey is likely gone in the near future. The Dolphins would incur a $25 million salary cap hit if they trade him before July 1, and it's roughly $7 million if he's dealt after that. Wolfe has reported a few teams to monitor, including the Rams, Panthers, and Falcons. |

Link to storyDetroit Lions CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr. is expected to focus on playing outside cornerback this offseason, according to defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend.
Footballguys view: Rakestraw was a second-round pick of the Lions in the 2024 NFL Draft, and coming out of Missouri he was known as a player who was always around the ball. His rookie season was cut short by a hamstring injury, and he only played 46 snaps on defense in eight games. We'll see if he can stay healthy and impress during the offseason and into the preseason. He's likely to be the backup to DJ Reed at the RCB position. |
Detroit Lions DB Avonte Maddox is expected to be used as a backup at slot cornerback and safety, according to safeties coach Jim O'Neil.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. Maddox was drafted by the Eagles (fourth round, 2018), and he's been a solid reserve player for them for years. During his time in the NFL, Maddox has started 41-of-81 games and outside of an injury-shortened 2023 he's been a consistent performer. |
Pittsburgh Steelers CBs Beanie Bishop Jr. and Sebastian Castro are expected to battle for the starting slot cornerback role, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.
Footballguys view: The Steelers signed Castro as a priority free agent after the draft. He brings versatility to the field as he's a hybrid slot CB/safety. Bishop won the starting job at the beginning of the 2024 season but eventually lost playing time to CB Cameron Sutton, who is now a free agent. We'll see this battle shake out in training camp. |
Free-agent CB Rasul Douglas (Bills) recently received a contract offer from the Miami Dolphins but decided to reject the offer, according to a source.
