Patriots | Drake Maye received pre-game injection in his shoulder Mon Feb 9, 01:28 AM
New England Patriots QB Drake Maye (shoulder) indicated that he received a pain-killing injection in his right shoulder prior to the team's Super Bowl LX loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Maye missed one practice and was limited in another leading up to the game, but he did not carry a designation on the final injury report.
Link to storyDetroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs' 49 total touchdowns are the most in NFL history by a player age-23 or younger.
Footballguys view: Since being selected 12th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Gibbs has done exactly what the Lions envisioned -- and more. In addition to the touchdown production, Gibbs has averaged 5.3 yards per carry over three seasons. He's solidified himself as a cornerstone of Detroit's offense, and that's not going to change in 2026, even with a change of offensive coordinators. Gibbs, who finished as RB4 in 2025, will be locked in as a top pick this summer.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy converted an NFL-record 58% of his passes on third and fourth down into first downs in 2025.
Footballguys view: Purdy played well when healthy, completing 230 of 342 attempts for 2,569 yards, 22 touchdowns, and three INTs. He also ran the ball 47 times for 208 yards and three scores. Despite injuries to him and his supporting cast, Purdy's 19.9 points per game over nine games ranked sixth among all QBs. Purdy will likely be available as a tail-end QB1 in drafts this summer.
Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray will likely be traded or released this offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rappoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo.
Footballguys view: Murray made just five starts in 2025, throwing for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions before suffering a foot injury in Week 5. He went on injured reserve, and by December, the Cardinals decided he would not come off of it. Murray is guaranteed $36.8 million regardless of what happens, but if he's on the team's roster past the first week of the new league year, which begins March 11, he is guaranteed an additional $20 million. Thus, the Cardinals and new head coach Mike LaFleur have a pretty obvious deadline to make a final decision.

San Francisco 49ers QB Mac Jones is expected to receive trade interest from multiple teams this offseason, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Footballguys view: Nonetheless, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the 49ers have no plans to trade Jones this offseason and fully intend to bring him back as Brock Purdy's backup. Jones is under contract for another year at a salary cap number of $3.07 million. Jones got ample opportunity to show off his skills in 2025. He threw for 13 touchdowns and six interceptions while averaging 268.9 passing yards in eight starts in place of an injured Purdy. The Niners went 5-3 and stayed in the playoff mix with Jones under center. That's the kind of insurance policy teams covet.

Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins has a chance to remain with the Falcons next season, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Footballguys view: ESPN's Adam Schefter, however, reports that Cousins is expected to be released before the start of the new league year in March. The Falcons recently restructured Cousins' contract with the idea that it would be easier for both sides if the four-time Pro Bowler was released sooner rather than later, giving Cousins the optionality that he wanted and adding financial flexibility for Atlanta. Releasing Cousins would further open up the quarterback position in 2026 for the Falcons, whose new regime has not yet committed to Michael Penix Jr. as the starter. Stay tuned.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Tee Higgins caught at least one touchdown in seven of his last nine games this season.
Footballguys view: Higgins finished the year hauling in 59 receptions for 846 yards and 11 touchdowns. Despite missing two games because of two separate stints in the concussion protocol, he still set a career high in touchdowns and finished as WR17 in total fantasy points. It's not unreasonable to expect a healthier Higgins, working with a healthier Joe Burrow, to push closer to joining teammate Ja'Marr Smith in WR1 territory in 2026.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter (knee) will make a full recovery from his knee injury and should be a standout player for the team next season, according to head coach Liam Coen.
Footballguys view: Questions about his role will persist, however. Hunter, who played 67 percent of the team's offensive snaps and 36 percent of the defensive snaps before his season-ending knee injury Oct. 30, is expected to see playing time at cornerback this season. "At this point, walking into the offseason, corner is a position that we have a few guys who are on expiring contracts," general manager James Gladstone recently said. "By default, you can expect there to be a higher emphasis on his placement [at corner]." We'll watch for more in coming weeks.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent WR Mike Evans felt better after this season than he did in the last few seasons and seems to be on track to continue playing, according to agent Deryk Gilmore.
Footballguys view: Evans missed seven games with a broken collarbone, but returned and caught six passes for a season-high 132 yards, including a 45-yard reception, in a late-season loss to Atlanta. He showed speed, quickness, and agility, and brought energy to the offense. But Evans caught only 30 passes and saw his NFL record-tying streak of 11 straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons come to an end. Evans will be an unrestricted free agent next month. If he does decide to play, will it be in Tampa Bay? Two years ago, Evans received interest from the Chiefs and Texans. He could draw interest again.

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill's (knee) availability for the 2026 season is uncertain at this point, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Footballguys view: "It is unclear at this point when or even if Tyreek will be ready to play in 2026," Pelissero said. "The health, plus his age of 32, the money would all point toward Tyreek, at least for now, being out in Miami." Hill played in just four games in 2025 and caught 21 balls for 265 yards and a touchdown. His knee issue may accelerate the veteran wideout's regression as he gets into his 30s, as Hill failed to reach the 1,000-yard mark even in a full 2024 season. We'll be watching for more.

Arizona Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett may be placed on the trade block if the team decides to keep QB Kyler Murray, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: While there's considerable reporting that suggests Kyler Murray will be moving on, Fowler believes the door to Murray staying in Arizona is still possible. New coach Mike LaFleur is familiar with Murray's game. Nothing is decided as LaFleur sorts through staffing issues. Keeping Murray could prove the path of least resistance. If he stays, Brissett would become a workable trade candidate. He's due a reasonable $4.88 million in base salary. Fowler notes that Brissett has friends in the league -- such as Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski and Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich -- who could have interest in getting him.

Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold earned a $1 million incentive by winning Super Bowl LX.
Footballguys view: As SI.com reminded readers, all year, we heard that Darnold couldn't win the big game. Now that he's won the biggest game there is, Darnold's critics will have to come up with a new excuse not to embrace him as one of the NFL's best quarterbacks -- one who's just entering his prime. In fact, sources told CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones that if they won the Super Bowl, Seattle would consider giving Darnold a contract extension this coming offseason. If so, the million he earned Sunday won't even be the tip of the iceberg.

Seattle Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III was named the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl LX, gaining 135 rushing yards on 27 carries and catching two passes for 26 yards.
Footballguys view: By the time Seattle and New England headed to the locker room at halftime, Walker had 94 yards on 14 carries, the second-highest rushing total in an opening half in Super Bowl history. He became the first running back to win the MVP award since Broncos running back Terrell Davis won it in 1997. Walker's finishing flourish came at a good time in his career. He is slated to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in March after playing the final year of his rookie contract with a salary cap number of just under $2.7 million.
Seattle Seahawks PK Jason Myers made a Super Bowl-record five field goals during the team's 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX.
Footballguys view: Myers made field goals of 33, 39, and 41 yards in the first half, then made another 41-yard field goal in the second half, staking Seattle to a 12-0 lead. Then late in the fourth quarter, Meyers made history, kicking a 26-yard field goal to set the Super Bowl record with five made field goals in a game. Myers also kicked 2 extra points, giving him a Super Bowl record for a kicker with 17 points.

Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold completed 19 of his 38 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown and added five rushing yards in a 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX. RB Kenneth Walker III gained 135 yards on 27 carries and caught two passes for 26 yards, and RB George Holani chipped in six rushing yards on two carries and caught a seven-yard pass. WR Cooper Kupp finished with a team-high six receptions on 12 targets for 61 receiving yards, and WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba hauled in four of his 10 targets for 27 yards. TE AJ Barner caught four passes for 54 yards and a touchdown, and WR Rashid Shaheed gained 27 yards on a pair of receptions. LB Ernest Jones led the defense with 11 tackles, including 10 solo stops, and LB Uchenna Nwosu returned an interception for a touchdown. S Julian Love also had an interception, and DT Byron Murphy II and DE Derick Hall both had two of Seattle's six sacks, and Murphy also recovered a fumble.
Footballguys view: As ESPN's Dan Graziano wrote, "Led by defense and special teams, armed with a quarterback nobody believed in and run by a 38-year-old, second-year coach whose personality remains opaque to almost everyone outside of his building, the Seattle Seahawks kept their heads down and kept winning." And that coach, Mike Macdonald, is now the third-youngest head coach ever to win the Super Bowl -- and he did it in just his second season with the Seahawks. With Darnold heading into his second season in Seattle and MacDonald at the helm, the Seahawks' future is bright.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye completed 27 of his 43 passes for 295 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in a 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX. Maye was also sacked six times and lost a fumble while gaining 35 rushing yards on five carries. RB Rhamondre Stevenson managed 23 rushing yards on seven carries and caught five passes for 40 yards and a touchdown. RB TreVeyon Henderson was held to 19 yards on six carries and caught three passes for 26 yards. WR Mack Hollins was a bright spot for the offense, catching four passes for a team-high 78 yards and a touchdown. WR DeMario Douglas added five catches for 45 yards, and WR Stefon Diggs finished with three catches for 37 yards. TE Hunter Henry caught three passes for 31 yards, and WR Kayshon Boutte caught one pass for 31 yards. S Craig Woodson finished with a team-high 10 tackles, including seven solo stops, and CB Marcus Jones joined him with seven solo stops. DT Milton Williams recorded three tackles, including two tackles for loss, and a sack.
Footballguys view: While the defense kept the Patriots within reach most of the game, Maye struggled under pressure, and the offense sputtered when it mattered most. New England punted on all five of its non-kneel first-half possessions, generating just four total first downs. With the game still within reach, the offense fell flat, going three-and-out on its first three possessions of the third quarter -- its one first down on four drives in the quarter came via penalty. Maye made a few plays in the final frame, but it was too little, too late from the MVP runner-up.

Link to storyGreen Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Romeo Doubs could be a fit for the Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, but Fowler believes the 'door isn't closed' on Doubs re-signing in Green Bay.
Footballguys view: It's doubtful that Green Bay would pay the market value for Doubs, which is going to be at least $13-15 million a season, and likely more. They have Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, and Matthew Golden, so a team that is more needy at wide receiver like Las Vegas or Tennessee will be more willing to pay up for Doubs. Doubs should have a larger role and more value in fantasy leagues if he signs elsewhere.
Green Bay Packers impending free-agent QB Malik Willis could be pursued by the Arizona Cardinals in free agency if the Cardinals part ways with QB Kyler Murray, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins should be considered the favorite to get Willis because new head coach Jeff Hafley is familiar with him from their time together in Green Bay along with the Dolphins likely need for a new starter after they seemed to move on from Tua Tagovailoa when he was benched late last season. As we saw in 2025, Willis could be a top 6-8 fantasy quarterback with a QB1 ceiling in any given week if he is a starter, so he's probably undervalued in early best ball drafts and dynasty leagues right now.
Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones is the team's top priority in free agency, followed by WR Alec Pierce, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Jones returning to the Colts is almost a foregone conclusion. Any other team that wants to make a run for him will have to give him a starting quarterback salary and only the Colts are sure they can get production and leadership that is worth that. Colts fantasy options will probably get a small bump in value when this deal gets done, and another if Jones ends up on track to start Week 1.

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray's future with the team hasn't been decided, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, and Fowler believes it is still possible that Murray remains with the team next season.
Footballguys view: What this probably means is that the Cardinals are realizing no one is going to trade for Murray with a $22 million+ price tag for 2026 that includes a $17 million roster bonus and $19+ million that guarantees for 2027 on the fifth day of the league season in May. They could release Murray, but will be on the hook for his 2026 salary, so Mike LaFleur might just decide to let Murray and Jacoby Brissett wage a quarterback competition in camp. We know who fantasy players will be rooting for.

Green Bay Packers TE Tucker Kraft (knee) and the team have already begun talks about a potential contract extension. Prior to suffering a torn ACL on Nov. 2, Kraft was leading the team with 32 receptions, 489 yards and six touchdowns across eight games. 'Obviously, he's a really important part of this football team,' general manager Brian Gutekunst said. 'We've obviously been in contact with him and just let him know how we feel and we'll kind of see how it goes.'
Footballguys view: Kraft was the #1 tight end in PPR points per game when he went down. Trey McBride passed him in the high pass volume Jacoby Brissett offense, but Kraft would have still been TE2 in 2025 fantasy leagues if he had sustained his first half production pace. It won't cost that much to get him in 2026, but if he isn't the same player when he first returns from his injury, he might not pay off at ADP. We will be tracking his recovery closely to advise you on whether to target the best tight end after the catch in the game this summer.

Dallas Cowboys WR George Pickens is expected to have the franchise tag placed on him, league sources said Saturday, Feb. 7. The projected cost of the one-year, fully guaranteed franchise tag is estimated to be around $28 million. The team can apply the franchise tag to Pickens anytime between Feb. 17 and March 3.
Footballguys view: It would have been much more surprising to hear that the Cowboys were going to leave any possibility of Pickens leaving after his breakthrough season. He's going to go in the second round of many drafts this season, but he was worth that last season. The best way to take advantage of this is target Dak Prescott, who should be in line for huge numbers if Pickens, CeeDee Lamb, and his offensive stay healthy.
San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey was named the 2025 NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award. He led the 49ers in both rushing and receiving yardage in 2025, totaling over 2,000 scrimmage yards after playing just four games in 2024.
Footballguys view: Fantasy players that believed in McCaffrey's ability to return to his previous high level of play (and win this award) were rewarded with the most valuable player in fantasy football in 2025. He's likely to stay in the mid first round again in 2026, but it's doubtful that anyone who took McCaffrey there in 2025 would pass on him this summer.
Christian McCaffrey player page
Seattle Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III, an impending free agent after Super Bowl LX, has stepped up his play in the postseason with four rushing touchdowns after fellow RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) went down with a torn ACL earlier in the playoffs. 'He's a phenomenal player, he's a great person, he's a great teammate,' head coach Mike Macdonald said. 'Again, those are things we are going to have to worry about, but not right now. Those are decisions we'll make in the future, but he knows how we feel about him, and I think we know how Ken feels about us.'
Footballguys view: We should write Walker's name in the 2026 Seahawks plans in pencil, if not in pen. The price of a transition or franchise tag is reasonable for running backs, the Seahawks don't want to go into 2026 with neither of their running back duo available in Week. Walker could have a higher fantasy ceiling elsewhere as a true lead back, but he should at least begin the season as the lead back in Seattle while Charbonnet is rounding back into form from his injury.
Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins is expected to be released before the start of the new league year in March. That gives him a choice where or if he wants to play in the 2026 season, league sources said Saturday, Feb. 7.
Footballguys view: Minnesota should be considered a possibility with their need for a veteran quarterback to compete with (or replace?) JJ McCarthy, and the word is that Cousins is open to returning there. The Vikings may go after a big fish like Joe Burrow, but if they aren't successful, Cousins is a viable Plan B, and he would be able to restore a lot of the fantasy value Justin Jefferson lost last season.

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys impending free-agent WR George Pickens is expected to receive the franchise tag this offseason, but a sign-and-trade is still a possible option for Pickens, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo.
Footballguys view: Given Pickens reputation, there might not be many teams willing to give him a huge guaranteed money number on a second contract since he did show some of the behavior and play that seemed to wear thin during his three-year stint with the Steelers. We still expect Pickens to be a Cowboys next season, but will be monitoring the grapevine for a possible team that would give draft compensation for the privilege of paying Pickens a number that represents generational wealth.
Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is expected to have contract extension talks with the Ravens this offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo.
Footballguys view: This will be a situation to watch closely, as it took a long time for general manager Eric DeCosta to find common ground with Jackson (who does not retain an agent) during his last contract negotiation. Jackson is going to be a free agent in 2027 and an extension would make his cap hits more manageable over the next two years, but the team let his quarterback coach Tee Martin go, and it appears they also believe he was to blame for some of the team's underachievement even though John Harbaugh took the fall for the recent pattern of perennial disappointment.

The Indianapolis Colts plan to open talks with QB Daniel Jones on a multi-year contract extension this offseason, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. However, if they cannot work out a long-term deal, the team may consider using the franchise tag on him.

New York Giants impending free-agent QB Russell Wilson plans to continue his playing career in 2026, even though he spent most of the 2025 season as the club's third-string quarterback, according to NFL Network's Judy Battista.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is increasingly likely to be playing with a different team next season, although the organization has not made a final decision, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Dolphins would likely have to eat most of the $54 million in guaranteed money that Tagovailoa is slated to earn in 2026 if he is traded and a $45.2 million dead cap charge would be applied to the salary cap. However, releasing him would allow Miami to spread the dead cap charge over two years and they would then have to pay Tagovailoa $3 million in fully guaranteed money in 2027.
Footballguys view: It's hard to know where Tagovailoa would fit, and it seems unlikely that he would be brought in anywhere as a starter, except maybe Cleveland or the Jets, which isn't exciting for them or him. He would be better off as a backup under a rising offensive star head coach like Ben Johnson or Liam Coen to reboot and update his software for his next opportunity like Daniel Jones did during his short stint with Minnesota.

Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown's future with the club remains in question, although the team has not engaged in any trade talks involving him, according to multiple sources. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo added that the Eagles have only had brief talks with Brown's camp recently.
Footballguys view: There's a non-zero chance that Brown gets traded (New England and Buffalo seem like good trade partners), but we shouldn't rule out the possibility that he stays with the Eagles. The cap hit would be big if they deal him, but that we are seeing teams more willing to take dead cap on to move a team forward. Still, with every passing day that we aren't hearing buzz about a Brown trade, the likelihood of him being an Eagle next season goes up.
A.J. Brown player page
Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow is not expected to have trade offers involving him entertained by the Bengals but the team is willing to spend to build around him this offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: It never hurts for teams like Minnesota to ask, but with the Bengals committed to Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, it makes no sense for them to deal Burrow.

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers appears increasingly likely to return to the club for the 2026 season, even though he has not officially announced that he will continue his playing career, in the opinion of NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. In recent weeks, Rodgers has spoken with WR DK Metcalf and new head coach Mike McCarthy multiple times. The Steelers are hopeful that Rodgers will make a final decision regarding his status for 2026 prior to the start of free agency in mid-March.
Footballguys view: When McCarthy was hired this was expected even though all of the reports said that wasn't why the Steelers hired McCarthy. Offensive line coach James Campen is also close to Rodgers, so it just makes sense that he would want to return. Rodgers could be more production in 2026 playing with an offensive coaching staff that knows his game and works well with him.

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce plans to get in touch with the team after the Super Bowl to discuss his future plans, according to multiple sources. The 36-year-old had reportedly been contemplating retirement but the Chiefs would like him to return for at least one more season.
Footballguys view: Kelce wasn't any better for fantasy in 2025 than he was in 2024 even though Rashee Rice was suspended for the first six games of the season and Patrick Mahomes returned to elite fantasy QB1 form. If he does return, he won't be more than a late round pick in fantasy league.

Retired QB Derek Carr (Saints) has had several NFL teams do due diligence on him, in order to determine if he would be interested in making a comeback. According to multiple sources, the 34-year-old would consider a return to the league in an ideal situation with the right coaching staff. The New Orleans Saints currently retain Carr's contractual rights but would be likely to part with him, given the emergence of QB Tyler Shough.
Footballguys view: Carr would make sense as a mentor for Fernando Mendoza in Las Vegas under Klint Kubiak, who was the architect of the last peak of Carr's career in New Orleans at the beginning of the 2024 season. Pittsburgh also could be interested in Carr as a competent starting option if Aaron Rodgers doesn't return and they prefer Carr to Joe Flacco.

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent QB Joe Flacco is a player that the Bengals are interested in re-signing this offseason, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: Joe Burrow is an incredible quarterback, but the Bengals need to be ready for him to miss time (again). That means a guy like Flacco could be an easy call as someone to keep around. Flacco can still play good football as a reserve option for teams in a playoff hunt (like the Bengals). We'll see what he decides to do when free agency opens up on March 11th.
Joe Flacco player page
Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase caught seven of his eight touchdowns at home during the 2025 regular season and also posted 926 of his 1,412 receiving yards during home games.
Footballguys view: Chase is a superstar, and he can thrive in any stadium. He was able to make plays with either Joe Flacco or Joe Burrow at quarterback. Chase can do more if Burrow stays healthy for a full year. He's easily a consideration for the no1 wide receiver entering the 2026 season.

Washington Commanders impending free-agent QB Marcus Mariota said he enjoys Washington but is open to signing with another team if it means competing for the starting job. 'If something presents itself, great,' Mariota said. 'I will take time to iron it out, but I do love it here.'
Footballguys view: Mariota is unlikely to get a chance to compete for a starting job in 2026. However, he's clearly a trusted veteran backup quarterback that any team in a Super Bowl window may consider as an option. He may be looking to start, but Mariota may just end up choosing the best landing spot where he could get a championship.

Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson said he wants to sign a long-term deal to remain with the team.
Footballguys view: Watson signed a one-year extension in September 2025, so he's under contract through the 2026 season. Coming off a 2024 knee injury, Watson didn't get on the field for the Packers until late October. He finished the 2025 season with 35 catches for 611 yards with six touchdowns. Fantasy GMs can look at him as a WR3/flex option, and we'll see if the Packers want to work out a long-term deal with him for 2027 and beyond.
