Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels (knee) had a good rehab session Wednesday, Sept. 17, and won't practice until Friday, Sept. 19, at the earliest, according to head coach Dan Quinn.
Link to storyNew York Jets QB Tyrod Taylor will start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3.
Footballguys view: The Buccaneers present a tough challenge for the Jets this week. Taylor has a ton of experience and can use his legs to escape pressure. That makes him a consideration for Fantasy GMs in deeper superflex leagues. Adjust your expectations for WR Garrett Wilson this week as he might be best considered a WR2 with Taylor under center. |

New York Jets QB Justin Fields (concussion) was ruled out for Week 3.
Footballguys view: Fields sustained the first concussion of his pro career last week and is unable to get through the league's protocol in time to play in Week 3. That means the Jets turn to Tyrod Taylor as the starter. Taylor is a runner which makes him an option in deeper superflex leagues. Fantasy GMs with Garrett Wilson might think of him more as a WR2 with Taylor in the lineup. |

Free-agent RB Cam Akers (Saints) signed with the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Footballguys view: With Aaron Jones sidelined by a hamstring injury, the Vikings are turning to a familiar face. Akers will return for a third stint with the franchise. There's no word on whether Akers will sign with the 53-man roster or the practice squad. Akers, 26, played under Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell with the Rams when O'Connell was the Los Angeles' offensive coordinator. The two won Super Bowl LVI together to cap the 2021 season. Jordan Mason is expected to handle a featured role in Jones' absence. |

Free-agent QB Desmond Ridder (Bengals) was signed by the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Footballguys view: By signing Ridder to the 53-man roster, not the practice squad, the Vikings gain flexibility to potentially have an experienced starter as QB2, rather than press an undrafted rookie, Max Brosmer, into action if something happens to Carson Wentz while a high-ankle sprain sidelines J.J. McCarthy. |
Free-agent WR Malik Cunningham (Ravens) was signed to the Detroit Lions practice squad on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Brett Rypien was signed off the practice squad on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow (turf toe) was placed on injured reserve by the team on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Footballguys view: The move was expected after the turf toe injury Burrow suffered in Sunday's win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. On Monday, head coach Zac Taylor confirmed that Burrow will need surgery. The expectation is that Burrow will be out for a minimum of three months. Jake Browning will move into the starting lineup to replace Burrow. Brett Rypien was elevated from the practice squad to serve as Browning's backup. The team added quarterbacks Mike White and Sean Clifford to the practice squad. |

Houston Texans WR Christian Kirk (hamstring) is expected to play in Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. He has missed the first two games of the season for the Texans.
Footballguys view: The Texans sit at 0-2 with a need for offensive help and hope Kirk can provide that. Through two games, the Texans have scored only two touchdowns and rank last in points per game (14). The pass protection hasn't been great either. Quarterback C.J. Stroud has been under pressure on 39% of his dropbacks, seventh-most among starting quarterbacks, according to Next Gen Stats. The hope is that Kirk's return can help open up the offense to get Stroud going while taking attention off of Pro Bowl wideout Nico Collins. We'll be watching for more. |

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts' lack of running plays or zone reads has been because of game flow or because of how they were defended, according to offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. 'Don't worry, they're coming,' Patullo said.
Footballguys view: Hurts indirectly defended Patullo after the Week 2 win over the Chiefs by asking a pair of rhetorical questions: "Who knows who they are in Week 2? Who knows who they are in Week 1?" It's a fair point. We're early in the season, and Patullo is a first-year playcaller. Of course, all of this would be much less concerning to fantasy investors if Hurts weren't currently sitting as QB26. We'll continue to watch for the offense to come into focus as we get through September while acknowledging it's hard to sit Hurts as the Eagles sort through their issues. |

Updating previous reports, Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy (ankle) is expected to miss two to four weeks with a high-ankle sprain. ESPN insider Adam Schefter suggests that the Oct. 19 home game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6 is a plausible return date.
Footballguys view: Carson Wentz is expected to start on Sunday against the Bengals. After that, the Vikings are scheduled to play against the Steelers in Dublin in Week 4. In Week 5, they face the Browns in London. One question is whether the Vikings will want McCarthy to travel overseas. As NFL Network's Tom Pelissero suggested, what you don't want to do with a high ankle sprain is get on an eight-hour flight that's going to cause swelling. So, missing the three-game stretch outlined makes a lot of sense. We'll continue to follow up. |
Updating previous reports, New York Jets QB Justin Fields (concussion) would need to practice no later than Thursday, Sept. 18, in order for head coach Aaron Glenn to be comfortable starting him in Week 3.
Footballguys view: This was Fields' first documented concussion in the NFL, though he did have one at Ohio State. The NFL has a five-step protocol for concussions, and an independent neurologist must clear the player before returning to action. Tyrod Taylor, who missed the entire preseason due to arthroscopic knee surgery, has 58 career starts, but he hasn't started a game since 2023 with the New York Giants. He rode the Jets' bench last season, behind Aaron Rodgers, appearing only in mop-up situations. We'll be following Fields' progress closely in the coming days. |

Free-agent QB Mike White (Bills) and QB Sean Clifford (Packers) signed with the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Footballguys view: The moves come in the wake of Joe Burrow's turf toe injury. Burrow is expected to miss at least three months. Jake Browning will replace Burrow as the starter, while Brett Rypien, who was signed on Aug. 27, is also on Cincinnati's practice squad. The Bengals typically carry two quarterbacks on the 53-player active roster while having another quarterback on their 16-player practice squad. "To me, you have to have three guys who are healthy and available to play," offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher said Monday. Hopefully, the Bengals can avoid dipping into their newly-signed reserves. |
Las Vegas Raiders WR Tre Tucker had three receptions (on eight targets) for 12 yards versus the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith completed 24 of 43 passes for 180 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions in a 20-9 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Smith, who was sacked three times, also ran for 20 yards on five carries.
Footballguys view: As NFL.com suggested, Smith likely played his worst game since resurrecting his career with Pete Carroll in Seattle, throwing three picks and completing 24 of 43 passes for just 180 yards and a grimacing 37.0 passer rating. According to ESPN.com's Ryan McFadden, the QB was 0-for-12 on pass attempts for 10-plus air yards. That's a big difference from his performance against the New England Patriots in the season opener, when he went 9-for-14 on attempts for more than 10 yards. Smith and the Raiders will look to get back on track against the Commanders in Week 3. |

Las Vegas Raiders TE Brock Bowers (knee) hauled in five of his eight targets for 38 yards in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Footballguys view: Bowers, who carried a questionable designation heading into Monday night's game, didn't practice on Thursday or Friday due to a knee injury. While his snap share wasn't as robust as usual, Bowers was on the field on third downs and in the two-minute drill. The injury may have affected his production, but a poor showing by Geno Smith didn't help. Bowers remains an elite player at his position heading into Week 3, but his health is something we'll continue to monitor. |
Las Vegas Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers caught six of his 12 targets for 60 yards in Week 2 versus the Los Angeles Chargers.

Los Angeles Chargers WR Tre Harris was targeted three times, catching two of them for 34 yards during the club's Week 2 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Link to storyLas Vegas Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty ran for 43 yards on 11 carries and caught three of his four targets for one yard in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Footballguys view: The offensive line has struggled, but so has Jeanty. There have been flashes in his limited touches, but they were few and far between. Through two games, Jeanty's 30 carries are tied for 13th among running backs. His 81 rush yards are the fewest among all players with at least 30 opportunities. The back-to-back struggles to open the season marked the first time Jeanty has had fewer than 45 rush yards in consecutive games since 2022, his freshman season at Boise State. The Raiders will remain patient, but that will be increasingly difficult for fantasy investors. |
Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston had three receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown during the team's Week 2 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. He was targeted seven times.
Footballguys view: Remember, Johnston torched the reigning AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs for 79 receiving yards and two touchdowns on five catches in Week 1. He carried over that form into Week 2. Thanks to his hot start in 2025, Johnston managed to become the first Chargers player since former Bolts star tight end Antonio Gates in 2014 to have three receiving TDs in the team's first two games of a season. With the Chargers leaning into the passing attack, Johnston, Keenan Allen, and Ladd McConkey are all viable fantasy plays, with Johnston (WR7) and Allen (WR12) both delivering WR1-level production. |

Los Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey had five receptions (on five targets) for 48 yards in a Week 2 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris carried the ball eight times for 28 yards against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2. Harris added a pair of receptions for 20 yards.

Los Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton ran the ball eight times for 24 yards against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2. Hampton was also targeted twice as a receiver, catching one for one yard.
Footballguys view: Hampton, the 22nd pick of the draft, has 72 yards through two games. On Monday, he was held to fewer than 50 yards rushing in back-to-back games for the first time since his 2022 freshman season at North Carolina, per NFL Research. There's little reason to think much brighter days aren't ahead, but so far, the draft's first-round RB duo has been anything but dynamic. He'll try to get on track against the Commanders in Week 3. |
Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert connected on 19 of his 27 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Herbert also ran nine times for a team-high 31 yards.
Footballguys view: Herbert has been excellent this season. He tossed a pair of touchdowns on Monday -- one to Keenan Allen and a 60-yarder to Quentin Johnston, for five in two games with no interceptions. Failing to salt away a win in the fourth quarter on three fruitless drives that added up to 11 plays for 29 yards and a lost fumble is troubling. Still, though, Herbert is playing arguably the best ball of his career and flourishing in a second year with offensive coordinator Greg Roman. Herbert is QB4 through two games. |

Houston Texans WR Jayden Higgins caught his only targeted pass for a 28-yard gain against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2.
Link to storyHouston Texans WR Nico Collins recorded three catches for 52 yards and a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. Collins was targeted a team-high nine times.

Houston Texans RB Woody Marks carried the ball three times for 14 yards during a Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also had a 37-yard reception.
Link to storyHouston Texans RB Nick Chubb ran 12 times for 43 yards and a touchdown versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2. He also caught two passes for 29 yards.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud completed 13 of 24 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown in a Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Stroud added 27 yards on four rushes.
Footballguys view: As NFL.com noted, Stroud's accuracy was unquestionably an issue Monday night, but so was his lack of time in the pocket. Too often, Tampa Bay would dial up even the simplest of blitzes and earn quick pressures. It's entirely understandable that Stroud would struggle with accuracy under consistent pressure, but the real damage is done when the quarterback begins to miss throws when free from pressure. That is what happened far too often Monday night, a concerning sign for this offense even after just two weeks. We'll look for signs of improvement against the Jaguars in Week 3. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Cade Otton had three catches (on four targets) for 25 yards versus the Houston Texans in Week 2.
Link to storyUpdating previous report, Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy (ankle) is not expected to be placed on the Reserve/Injured list because of his ankle injury, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell.
Footballguys view: While the expectation isn't an IR stay, the team doesn't have an exact timeline for McCarthy's return yet. They'll see how he responds to treatment this week. "Hearing from our medical staff, it's one of those things that tends to be much worse today than it probably was in the moment for him, with adrenaline and everything," O'Connell said. The reported timeline is two to four weeks. Carson Wentz will start in McCarthy's absence. |
