Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers WR Jalen McMillan (leg) returned to practice on Tuesday, Aug. 18, but HC Todd Bowles did say McMillan won't play in Saturday's preseason game with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Link to storySan Francisco 49ers WR Mike Evans (left quad tightness) came out of practice on Tuesday. He was icing his quad and watched the remainder practice, according to HC Kyle Shanahan on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Seattle Seahawks RB Jadarian Price (upper leg soreness) has reportedly returned to practice on Monday and will still be ramped up for 'unlimited work', according to HC Mike Macdonald on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Footballguys view: Price had missed the previous five full practices. The 32nd pick in this year's NFL draft from Notre Dame looked as smooth and decisive on his cuts and running with the ball as he did in the first weeks of his first pro training camp, before the injury. Then, Price was coming into the starting offense in scrimmages after third-year veteran George Holani. That was reversed Monday. It was another indication that Price will be the lead back as Seattle drafted him to be on Sept. 9, when the Seahawks host the New England Patriots.
New York Giants WR JuJu Smith-Schuster was released by the team on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Footballguys view: Smith-Schuster signed with the Giants in early June, but was listed as a fourth-string receiver on the team's depth chart. He did not play in the New York's first preseason game.

San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (muscle tightness) would have practiced on Tuesday, Aug. 18, if they were not joint sessions, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Footballguys view: There has been speculation that McCaffrey's injury is actually a hold-in, but Shanahan cleared the air on the situation. Shanahan said that speculation about McCaffrey not practicing for contract-related reasons "would be wrong." NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the same on Monday night. McCaffrey's recent past -- in particular his injury-marred 2024 season -- makes it hard to take these issues at face value. But with multiple reports suggesting the star running back's absence is for exactly the reason stated, we remain optimistic. Also, we'll be watching closely for reasons not to be.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Parker Washington (undisclosed injury) is expected to return to practice next week.
Footballguys view: The issue will certainly keep Washington from playing in Friday's preseason contest against the Panthers. It remains to be seen if Washington will see any action in the Jaguars' Aug. 28 exhibition finale, but, as CBSSports.com suggests, it doesn't appear at this time that his Week 1 status is in question. Entering his fourth season, Washington appeared in 16 games with seven starts last year, catching 58 passes for 847 yards with five touchdowns. Washington is being drafted as WR31 in Round 6. He has upside at that price.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB LeQuint Allen will miss the rest of training camp after suffering a soft-tissue injury in practice.
Footballguys view: Even though he's listed behind Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr., Allen is the best blocker of the bunch and an outstanding pass-catcher. These traits made him a candidate to have an increased role on offense this season. Allen has time to recover for the season opener. If he's back at full strength by then, as expected, he'll be in a position to be a role player in this offense. Not having him would take away one dimension from the passing game, but it might also lead to more work for Tuten. We'll be watching for more.
Free agent WR Ben Patterson (Jaguars) signed with the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, Aug. 18. No terms of the deal were disclosed.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love will not need surgery on his injured ankle, according to head coach Mike LaFleur.
Footballguys view: As the Arizona Republic noted, some took LaFleur's answer to mean that surgery had been under consideration for Love, elevating concerns. To be clear, there has been no indication that was the case. LaFleur was responding to a reporter's question, double-checking that Love would not need surgery. When surgery is not required, a typical recovery timeline for this injury is between two and six weeks. The Cardinals kick off their season on Sept. 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers -- one month to the day after Love suffered his injury. We'll continue to watch for more.
Chicago Bears RB Kyle Monangai (knee) is considered 'week-to-week' from his injury, according to head coach Ben Johnson.
Footballguys view: What remains up in the air is Monangai's status for Week 1. In the short term, Monangai's absence will open the door for more first-team reps for Roschon Johnson and Salvon Ahmed. If Monangai ends up missing time into the regular season, D'Andre Swift, who averaged 16 touches per game last season, could see his touches rise to north of 20 per game. As far as who spells Swift in that scenario is concerned, the most likely option will be Johnson, who worked ahead of Ahmed in preseason Week 1.
Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyquan Thornton (undisclosed) left practice Tuesday, Aug. 18, on the front of the cart.
Footballguys view: As CBSSports.com notes, Thornton has been firmly in the mix for a top-three spot on the Chiefs' receiver depth chart throughout the offseason. If Thornton is to miss time, rookie Cyrus Allen would have an increased opportunity to make an impression on the coaching staff. We'll continue to watch for more.
Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs (groin) will return to practice Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Footballguys view: Jacobs had been sidelined by a groin injury, and the expectation was he would return to work this week. Last season, Jacobs rushed for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns in 15 games. he also caught 36 passes for 282 yards with a TD. Jacobs is being drafted as RB17 at the end of Round 3. It's a fair price if the veteran back is working at full speed in advance of Week 1.

Buffalo Bills WR Keon Coleman (foot) is in a walking boot Tuesday, Aug. 18, after suffering a lower-body injury over the weekend.
Footballguys view: Coleman played in the Bills' preseason opener, catching three passes on four targets for 17 yards. While he got banged up during the game, head coach Joe Brady said that he expected the receiver to be fine. Several receivers aren't practicing on Tuesday, with Khalil Shakir also sidelined. But DJ Moore is participating in the session. We'll monitor Coleman and Shakir and report back as needed.
Denver Broncos RB Jonah Coleman has been 'work[ing] his way up the depth chart' and could have a role in the regular season, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold, who adds that Coleman continues to get reps with the first- and second-team offenses.
Footballguys view: Coleman played 12 snaps Friday night in Atlanta and had four carries for 24 yards, with his last carry coming with 47 seconds left in the first quarter. HC Sean Payton said he's seen enough from Coleman on the practice field to get the rookie out of the preseason opener that early. "I didn't need additional evidence of what I've been seeing for three weeks," Payton said. We'll be watching for more signs that Coleman is a viable candidate for a contributing role.
New Orleans Saints WR Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) is expected to be sidelined for around two months because of a hamstring injury. He could be a candidate for the short-term Reserve/Injured list.
Footballguys view: The Saints will be able to designate him as eligible to return if they wait to put him on the reserve list until the cut to 53 players later this month. If he does go on injured reserve, he will have to miss at least four games before returning to action. As Profootballtalk.com suggests, it's a big blow to a Saints offense that was hoping to pair Tyson with Chris Olave to give quarterback Tyler Shough a pair of dangerous receiving threats in his first full season as a starter.
Chicago Bears RB Kyle Monangai (knee) is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks because of a hyperextended knee, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Monangai is slated to work behind De'Andre Swift for a second-straight year. Monangai ran for 783 yards and five touchdowns on 169 carries in that role as a rookie. He also caught 18 passes for 164 yards. In the postseason, he added 21 carries for 63 yards and five catches for 58 yards. We'll continue to watch for more.
Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua (groin) is dealing with soreness but is expected to return to practice next week, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: Nacua left Los Angeles' joint practice against the Cowboys last Tuesday after experiencing discomfort. Last Thursday, McVay described the issue as "a little soreness" in Nacua's psoas, a muscle connecting the lower spine to the thigh bone. At the time, McVay said he anticipated Nacua returning the following week. Considering what Nacua means to the Rams' offense, Los Angeles has little reason to push him during the preseason, but we'll see if he returns to work next week.

Washington Commanders PK Jake Moody was released by Commanders, according to a source on Monday, Aug. 17. PK Drew Stevens has won the kicking job for the Commanders.
Footballguys view: Moody had struggled with his consistency in training camp and booted a 29-yard attempt off the right upright that fell over the crossbar in Friday's 20-7 preseason win over Miami. Meanwhile, rookie Drew Stevens has been more consistent. Three of his five misses in training camp occurred in one day, and he made a 41-yarder down the middle vs. the Dolphins. Stevens was considered to have the stronger leg. He made eight of 13 field goal attempts from beyond 50 yards in his last two seasons at Iowa. Now he's set to open the season with sole possession of the job.

Updating an earlier report, New York Jets RB Breece Hall (groin) got confirmation that the groin injury he suffered in practice on Monday, Aug. 17, was minor, per SNY.tv's Connor Hughes, who adds that the team will be cautious with Hall. It's believed he will be ready to go in Week 1.
Footballguys view: Coach Aaron Glenn downplayed Hall's injury during his news conference, calling it a strain and not a big deal. Hall did undergo an MRI after leaving practice early on Monday. He played in New York's first preseason game against Tampa Bay, totaling four carries for 16 yards. In 2025, Hall rushed for 1,065 yards with four touchdowns last season and added 36 catches for 350 yards with one touchdown. He's currently being drafted as RB14 in Round 3.
Free-agent CB Corey Mayfield Jr. (Ravens) has signed with the Tennessee Titans, according to a source on Monday, Aug. 17. The Titans also released LB Sean Brown.
Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield will reportedly play in the Buccaneers' second preseason game on Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine on Monday, Aug. 17.

Dallas Cowboys RB Phil Mafah (chest) is not participating in practice Monday, Aug. 17.

Chicago Bears RB Coleman Bennett was waived Monday, Aug. 17. The team also waived TE Nikola Kalinic (knee) with an injury designation.
Link to storyNew York Jets QB Geno Smith (ankle) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 17, but appeared to be favoring his ankle during drills.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Rich Cimini, Smith powered through the relatively light practice, though he did have one hiccup -- an overthrow that S Andre Cisco picked off in a two-minute drill. Coach Aaron Glenn acknowledged that Smith still is feeling the residual effects of the injury, adding, "I want to see exactly how he feels coming out of this practice to see how we're going to continue to move forward." We'll continue to watch for more.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Jalen McMillan (knee) is considered day-to-day or week-to-week because of a knee injury, according to head coach Todd Bowles.
Footballguys view: Expectations were high for McMillan, who suffered a serious neck injury last preseason that limited him to just four games during the 2025 season. He returned to action in Week 14. Two games later, he recorded the first 100-yard game of his career. He finished the final two weeks of the season with 12 receptions for 178 yards. During his rookie season in 2024, he totaled 37 receptions for 461 yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games. We'll continue to follow up as developments warrant.
Miami Dolphins WR Chris Bell (knee) was activated from the Active/Non-Football Injury list Monday, Aug. 17.
Footballguys view: Bell, wearing a red non-contact jersey, practiced for the first time on Monday. He participated in stretching and individual drills, but he sat out of 11-on-11 work. Bell tore his ACL in December. His return to full health could potentially give Miami an exciting pair of young wide receivers. Fellow rookie Caleb Douglas has been one of the standout players at training camp and started the Dolphins' preseason opener against the Commanders. We'll continue to monitor Bell's progress.
Undrafted free-agent RB Barika Kpeenu (North Dakota State) signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday, Aug. 17. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived RB Kadarius Calloway.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys WR Traeshon Holden was waived Monday, Aug. 17.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua (groin) is not participating in practice Monday, Aug. 17.
Footballguys view: Nacua is dealing with a core muscle injury suffered during last week's joint practice with the Cowboys. The Rams will host the Saints for a preseason matchup on Saturday afternoon. Nacua was not expected to play even without being injured, as Los Angeles has not traditionally played starters in the preseason under head coach Sean McVay, who told reporters that Nacua should return to practice next week. We'll continue to watch this one closely.

San Francisco 49ers RB Khalil Herbert was released Monday, Aug. 17.
Footballguys view: It's reasonable to believe Herbert's release means the 49ers are satisfied with their health and depth at running back, where the group is talented but dealing with multiple injuries. Christian McCaffrey, who's missed a week due to tightness, Jordan James (ribs), Kaelon Black (adductor), and Isaac Guerendo have all been missing time.

Tennessee Titans QB Mitchell Trubisky (biceps) is being evaluated for biceps injury, according to head coach Robert Saleh.
Footballguys view: Reporters at the workout said that Trubisky grabbed his right arm after throwing a pass. Trubisky is currently the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart behind Cam Ward. The veteran signed with the Titans as a free agent this offseason. Will Levis is the third quarterback on the roster and would be in line for more playing time if Trubisky is sidelined for a stretch.

Free-agent RB Anthony Hankerson (Dolphins) and WR Julian Hicks (Packers) signed with the Seattle Seahawks Monday, Aug. 17. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The team also waived RB T.J. Harden and RB Justin J. Jones.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Beaux Collins (Giants) agreed to terms with the Atlanta Falcons Monday, Aug. 17, according to sources. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Collins, 23, signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2025. He played nine games as a rookie last season, catching two passes for 25 yards. Collins saw action on 84 offensive snaps and 109 on special teams before going on injured reserve, where he finished the season.
Philadelphia Eagles WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 17.
Footballguys view: Smith missed the last couple of weeks with his hamstring injury, so his return is obviously good news. The Eagles' pre-practice injury report said that Smith will be a limited participant. Smith's return means that the Eagles are now only waiting for Makai Lemon to fill out their receiver group. Lemon is also dealing with a hamstring injury and has been out since early August.
DeVonta Smith player page
New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson (illness) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 17, because of an illness.
Footballguys view: Jets coach Aaron Glenn said the issue was a stomach bug. As CBSSports.com suggested, assuming Wilson is able to move past the illness and regain strength within the next few days, his preparation for the start of the regular season shouldn't be dramatically affected. Wilson, who's being drafted as WR20 with a fourth-round price, suited up for the Jets' preseason opener Friday against the Buccaneers and displayed a strong early connection with new starting quarterback Geno Smith, recording two catches for 32 yards on three targets in limited snaps.
Free-agent QB Jake Haener (Chiefs) agreed to terms with the New York Giants Monday, Aug. 17, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Free-agent RB Najee Harris (Chargers) is meeting with the New York Giants Monday, Aug. 17.
Footballguys view: Harris, 28, suffered a torn Achilles tendon while playing for the Chargers under Jim Harbaugh in 2025. The former first-round pick was able to play just three games before his injury. As Profootballtalk.com reminded readers, John Harbaugh also knows what it's like to go against Harris well, with the running back playing the Ravens twice a year from 2021-2024 while with the Steelers. The Giants already have Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary at the top of their current depth chart. We'll see how Harris fits if he signs.
