Broncos | DEN trying out two veterans at minicamp Wed May 6, 09:38 PM
Free-agent WR Michael Woods II and DE Isaiah Thomas have reportedly had a veteran tryout at the Denver Broncos' rookie minicamp, according to a source on Wednesday, May 6.
Link to storyUndrafted free-agent LS Jacob Graham (Texas A&M) and PK Chris Freeman (Connecticut) were invited to the Houston Texans rookie minicamp, according to a source on Wednesday, May 6.
Link to storyJacksonville Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter will still see work as a wide receiver during the 2026 season but will see an increase in snaps at cornerback during the season, according to general manager James Gladstone.

Link to storyGreen Bay Packers WR Matthew Golden will receive a bigger role in the offense this upcoming season and should see an increase in his production, according to offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich.
Footballguys view: After Romeo Doubs left in free agency and Dontayvion Wicks was traded to Philadelphia, there's a path for Golden to succeed. Christian Watson will be the field-stretcher. Jayden Reed should return to a featured role after missing nine games to injury. But Golden, a 2025 first-round pick -- Green Bay's first wideout taken in Round 1 in over two decades -- will get ample opportunity to prove his worth. Golden is being drafted as WR52. Landing him as your WR4 or WR5 in Round 10 in hopes of a breakout is a reasonable approach.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Kenneth Walker III said he has been spending time with QB Patrick Mahomes this offseason and believes he will be more involved in the passing game with the Chiefs.
Footballguys view: Walker has earned a reputation as a run-first back in his four NFL seasons, averaging fewer than 40 catches and 300 yards receiving per year over four seasons in Seattle. But Walker has been spending time with Patrick Mahomes this offseason trying to get ready for an expanded role as a pass-catcher -- and, over the past five years, three different KC RBs have had at least 40 receptions in a season. Two of those seasons came with OC Eric Bieniemy. The return of Bieniemy could mean more opportunities for Walker.
New York Jets QB Geno Smith is a perfect fit for the team's new offensive scheme, according to offensive coordinator Frank Reich.
Footballguys view: From 2021-2024, Smith started 52 games for Seattle, leading the club to a 28-24 record while completing 68.5 percent of his passes for 12,928 yards with 76 touchdowns and 36 interceptions. As Profootballtalk.com suggested, if Smith is better than that, then the Jets will be in a much better position to have success in 2026. That doesn't mean fantasy investors should be counting on Smith to fuel their fantasy fortunes. But thinking he can keep the players we are invested in, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, on schedule is reasonable.

Undrafted free-agent QB EJ Warner (Fresno State) has accepted an invitation to participate in the Denver Broncos rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Link to storyDenver Broncos seventh-round draft choice TE Dallen Bentley agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Broncos Wednesday, May 6, worth $4.5 million, according to a source.
Link to storySeattle Seahawks first-round pick RB Jadarian Price fits the team's outside-zone running scheme as that's the system he ran in at Notre Dame. Notre Dame running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider says that system is Price's 'love language.' Seider also noted that Price's experience making an impact while sharing snaps with Jeremiyah Love will also benefit him once RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) returns.
Footballguys view: Price's 6.0 yards per rush over three seasons at Notre Dame suggest he can bring an explosive element to Seattle's offense similar to what Ken Walker III did. But will it earn a robust role? With Zach Charbonnet likely to miss much of the season, the Seahawks signed Emanuel Wilson to give them a power runner, while George Holani has a skillset that could fit a third-down role. Both will get opportunities. Still, Price's Footballguys projection works out to 16 touches per game, and the rookie could provide RB2 value.

Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Steelers) was courted on social media by Arizona Cardinals WR Kendrick Bourne, but Cardinals HC Mike LaFleur stated that the team is 'focused on the guys we've got coming in', according to an interview with Jim Rome on Tuesday, May 5.
Footballguys view: The Steelers' recent decision to apply the unrestricted free agency tender to Rodgers has sparked speculation as to whether Rodgers may be thinking about signing with another team. That speculation has centered on the Cardinals. But Josh Weinfuss of ESPN asked "a source" if the talk "was real." The response was this: "Not at all." As PFT noted, despite the links to LaFleur and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, the Cardinals face a stiff challenge in 2026 -- one that would make it difficult for Rodgers to cap his career with a playoff berth.

Free-agent WR Stefon Diggs (Patriots) was found not guilty on Tuesday, May 5, of felony strangulation and other criminal charges stemming from a dispute with his personal chef.
Footballguys view: The acquittal clears a path for Diggs' return to the field, but he still could face discipline from the NFL. "We have been monitoring all developments in the matter, which remains under review of the personal conduct policy," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Tuesday. Diggs, who the Patriots released in March, was a key target for Drake Maye during the team's AFC East title run. Diggs' 1,000-yard season marked the seventh of his career. We'll see if teams wait for some resolution from the league before offers start coming in for the veteran wideout.

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones stated on Tuesday, May 5, that the team remains steadfast that they will not trade WR George Pickens.
Footballguys view: Pickens has signed his franchise tag, but hasn't landed a long-term deal with the team. There haven't been any indications that the two sides are making progress toward any longer arrangement. Meanwhile, the wideout is not taking part in voluntary workouts with teammates, but the Cowboys have a mandatory minicamp in June, and Pickens would be subject to fines if he skipped that camp. Jones said he expects Pickens to be there, while referencing quarterback Dak Prescott doing the same thing after being tagged in 2020. So we have expectations. Now we'll wait to see if Pickens meets them.
Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst shared that DE Micah Parsons is recovering well and the team expects him to be 'back early in the season.'
Footballguys view: Parsons suffered a torn ACL in December, cutting off his strong first season with Green Bay. He tallied 12.5 sacks with 12 tackles for loss and 27 quarterback hits, earning AP first-team All-Pro honors for the third time, despite playing just 14 games. We'll be watching his progress closely in coming weeks.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Emmett Johnson signed a four-year deal with the team on Tuesday, May 16. No financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
Footballguys view: As Footballguy Dave Kluge noted in the 2026 Rookie Draft Guide, Johnson could be the Chiefs' primary pass catcher. Ken Walker III hasn't displayed a consistent ability to draw targets through his career, and Andy Reid likes to have designated roles for his running backs. There's a narrow path that needs to play a valuable role. But, Kluge added, "The floor for Johnson is low. He fell to Day 3 and doesn't have the best athletic profile. In a weak rookie class overall, he's worth a late-round dart throw in deep leagues, but not without downside."
New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara said he's excited to see what he and RB Travis Etienne can do together.
Footballguys view: Kamara has made it evident that he wants to stay put with the Saints and play a role in the club's plans moving forward. During a podcast interview with former teammate Terron Armstead that was released Monday, Kamara praised QB Tyler Shough and the team's first-round draft pick, Jordyn Tyson. He was also excited about what he and RB Travis Etienne Jr. can do together. Kamara, 30, dealt with ankle and knee issues last season that limited him to 11 games. His role this year is unclear, but complementary work behind Etienne seems like a best-case outcome.

Las Vegas Raiders first overall selection QB Fernando Mendoza lacks NFL traits, according to a coach in the ACC. The coach, whose team faced Mendoza when he was at Cal, said Mendoza's receivers helped him a lot. 'He's a good decision-maker, but I don't think he's got the NFL traits,' the coach said. 'They're all back-shoulder (throws.) That's not working in the NFL. His receivers made plays to make him look better than he is. In the NFL, those throws are getting picked off.'
Footballguys view: Safe to say the Raiders don't agree with that assessment. As noted in the Footballguys 2026 Rookie Draft Guide, Tom Brady and the rest of the Raiders' front office are committed to letting Mendoza develop behind Kirk Cousins, which could lead to early frustrations for fantasy managers. So be mindful of that when drafting this summer. Beyond that, he remains a viable dynasty asset. Footballguy Sigmund Bloom believes Mendoza's fantasy ceiling is in the Brock Purdy range if Klint Kubiak is successful at rehabilitating the Raiders offense.
Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) is in a good spot, according to president of football operations Matt Ryan, but they don't know what to expect for training camp.
Footballguys view: Penix tore his ACL seven months ago. So, as The Athletic's Josh Kendall suggests, health is the first piece of information we need to determine what kind of competition he'll face from free-agent addition Tua Tagovailoa. From there, it's going to be about who best fits into new coach Kevin Stefanski's offense. While Tagovailoa is the favorite, it's hard to imagine the Falcons not giving Penix a shot this year, considering they spent the No. 8 pick on him just two years ago. But a new coaching staff and personnel department will likely feel less pressure to play him.
Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers' (Steelers) decision to play in 2026 could have the patience of the Pittsburgh Steelers wearing thin, in the opinion of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac on Monday, May 4.
Footballguys view: According to Dulac, the Steelers had some measure of expectation that Rodgers might return by the start of the NFL combine at the end of February. Then, based on their conversations with him, they had a realistic expectation that a decision would come by the start of the NFL Draft. Neither came to pass. If Rodgers hasn't given them a decision by the start of organized team activities on May 18 -- their latest deadline -- their patience will turn into frustration, and, Dulac suggests, something more. Stay tuned.

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud has CEO Cal McNair's backing, saying the Texans are 'fully committed' to Stroud on Monday, May 4.
Footballguys view: This figures to be a big season for Stroud. Last month, the Texans picked up the fifth-year option on his contract. Now, the Texans have another year to negotiate with Stroud's camp and make sure he is their long-term solution at quarterback. During the past two seasons, he failed to throw more than 20 passing touchdowns (with one rushing TD) en route to QB17 and QB21 finishes. A stingy Houston defense means the Texans don't have to throw much, and it's hard to envision a huge shift this year. Stroud's Footballguys projection, QB20, reflects all that.

Free-agent TE Jaheim Bell (Eagles) signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday, May 4. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storySan Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle (Achilles) will be a candidate for the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list if he is not ready for the start of the 2026 season, in the opinion of NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco. The 49ers have not ruled out the possibility of Kittle being ready for Week 1.
Footballguys view: In fact, head coach Kyle Shanahan has suggested Week 1 is entirely possible. Still, as Maiocco noted, a return for the opener seems like an aggressive timeline for Kittle's return from a torn Achilles, and the 49ers could be cautious, as he enters his 10th NFL season. If Kittle begins the season on the physically unable to perform list, Jake Tonges, who's proven to be a capable contributor in the passing game, would be the starter until the veteran returns.

Free-agent WR Chase Claypool (Bills) will not be signing with the Green Bay Packers after he participated in the team's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Footballguys view: Claypool was one of nine players to try out for the team during their rookie minicamp over the weekend. None of the nine tryout players were signed. Claypool was drafted 49th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2020 NFL Draft. In 58 career games, Claypool totaled 175 receptions, 2,261 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns. He remains an unrestricted free agent available to any team interested.

San Francisco 49ers WR Christian Kirk and WR De'Zhaun Stribling will likely compete for the No. 3 receiver job during training camp, in the opinion of NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
Footballguys view: Stribling's draft position -- he went in the second round, well ahead of expectations -- has him soaring up rookie boards. While he'll likely battle Kirk for that No. 3 spot, Maiocco acknowledges it's possible that if Ricky Pearsall provides an opening, Stribling could take over a more significant role in this offense. As the Footballguys 2026 Rookie Draft Guide said of Stribling, "He is risky, but has the profile to be a breakout rookie."
Christian Kirk player page
San Francisco 49ers RB Kaelon Black will probably have a chance to earn the No. 2 running back job during training camp, in the opinion of NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
Footballguys view: According to Maiocco, a veteran beat writer who's covered the Niners for 30 years, Isaac Guerendo will be in a battle to hold onto a roster spot after losing his place on the depth chart to Jordan James last season. Maiocco added: "The 49ers really like Black, a third-round pick, which suggests he has a strong chance to emerge as Christian McCaffrey's primary backup." We'll watch for more.
Green Bay Packers QB Desmond Ridder was released Monday, May 4, according to a source.
Footballguys view: The Packers are choosing to move forward with Kyle McCord over Ridder, as far as their reserve-futures quarterbacks go. The move came after the Packers signed veteran Tyrod Taylor as the presumptive backup to Jordan Love. Moving forward, the team has starter Jordan Love, Taylor, McCord, and undrafted rookie Kyron Drones. According to SBNation, with the lanes cleared, all eyes will be on McCord this offseason, who can compete for QB2 on the 53-man roster or a spot on the practice squad.
Miami Dolphins CB Isaiah Johnson, TE Zack Kuntz, CB Jason Maitre, DE Derrick McLendon, LB K.C. Ossai and P Seth Vernon were waived Monday, May 4. The Dolphins also released LS Taybor Pepper.

Free-agent QB Skylar Thompson (Steelers) is expected to sign with the Baltimore Ravens in the near future, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Head coach Jesse Minter said during the team's rookie minicamp that "there's a place for anywhere from three to five" quarterbacks on Baltimore's offseason roster, and Thompson would make it five. Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley return from last season, while the team signed UDFAs Joe Fagnano and Diego Pavia last week. As Profootballtalk.com reminded readers, Thompson, who spent most of last season on the Steelers' injured reserve list, spent his first three seasons with the Dolphins. The seventh-round pick made four starts in Miami. He was 99-of-183 for 941 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions in 11 total appearances.
Free-agent QB Tyrod Taylor (Jets) agreed to terms with the Green Bay Packers Monday, May 4, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Taylor is now the favorite to back up Jordan Love, who is entering his fourth season as a starter. Taylor would replace Malik Willis, who played behind Love the past two seasons before signing with the Dolphins in free agency. Before signing the 36-year-old Taylor, the only other quarterbacks the Packers had on the roster were Desmond Ridder, who is being released today, and Kyle McCord. Taylor was a sixth-round pick of the Ravens in 2011, one of only five players from that draft still active in 2025. For his career, Taylor is 29-31-1 as a starter.

Cleveland Browns WR Jerry Jeudy is a player the team believes will 'flourish' this season and reclaim his role as the No. 1 receiver, according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Footballguys view: Jeudy delivered 90 catches for 1,229 yards and four touchdowns in 2024. In 2025, he finished with just 50 catches for 602 yards and two touchdowns. He also finished second in the league with 10 drops. Still, GM Andrew Berry told reporters this week that the draft will have "zero impact" on Jeudy, and he doubled down, saying that Jeudy is Cleveland's "bell cow." A WR room of Jeudy, KC Concepcion, and Denzel Boston holds a lot of potential. If the rookies hit the ground running and live up to their potential, they can unlock the best of Jeudy.

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Nate Boerkircher was drafted to help the offense run the ball in heavier sets, in the opinion of John Shipley of SI.com.
Footballguys view: Shipley went on to note the Jaguars have made their intentions clear from the jump that this pick was about getting better at 12 and 13 personnel in a year in which half of the NFL is trending in that direction. That is what Shipley believes Boerkircher is here to help the Jaguars do. Add his blocking ability to Liam Coen's ability to scheme tight ends open in the passing game, and Shipley thinks it is fair to expect the Jaguars' offense to improve in this area.
San Francisco 49ers RB Kaelon Black was the sixth running back taken in the 2026 NFL Draft when he was picked in the third round. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Black was the second-best back in the draft behind No. 3 overall pick RB Jeremiyah Love, who went to the Arizona Cardinals. 'We had him as the second-rated back on the board,' Shanahan said this past week in a radio interview. 'So, that's just our evaluation, right or wrong that's our evaluation.'
Footballguys view: Somebody on this roster is going to have contingent upside if Christian McCaffrey goes down, but it's not clear Black is that guy. According to Footballguy Sigmund Bloom, Black is a high-floor try-hard back, but not clearly better than the team's current RB2, Jordan James. He is better than the next man on the depth chart, Isaac Guerendo, but Shanahan's track record on backs in the third/fourth round range of the draft should give you pause. "Let someone else take the third running back drafted on the promise of draft capital," Bloom advises.
Baltimore Ravens WR Elijah Sarratt is expected to play in the slot.
Footballguys view: According to Footballguy Sigmund Bloom, Sarratt is a classic possession receiver who finds a way to win despite less than stellar athleticism. He probably won't ever be fantasy relevant, but could be a spot starter due to injury as a stalwart backup receiver.
Free-agent WR DeAndre Hopkins (Ravens) said in an interview over the weekend that he remains interested in joining the Cincinnati Bengals in 2026. 'I think (Joe Burrow) is one of the best,' Hopkins said in a Saturday interview while attending the Kentucky Derby. 'I love his game, his toughness. He took his team to a Super Bowl early in his career and I feel like he can get back there with a little bit of help.'
Footballguys view: As SI.com suggested, Hopkins may not be the player he was earlier in his career. Still, he would be a solid third receiver to have behind Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and a more reliable option than Andrei Iosivas in the slot. That wouldn't make Hopkins fantasy relevant, but it would benefit Cincy's offense. Hopkins' versatility would allow the Bengals to continue moving Chase around on the field.

Dallas Cowboys TE Michael Trigg and TE DJ Rogers made positive impressions at rookie minicamp, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer. 'I'm really excited about those two young men adding into a group that I feel is maybe one of the more stable positions on our roster,' Schottenheimer said.
Footballguys view: According to Footballguy Sigmund Bloom, Trigg has the pass-catching skills and athletic ability to matter in fantasy football, but off-field concerns made him fall out of the draft. He landed in the right organization to have room to straighten out. If he makes the team -- or another team poaches him off Dallas' practice squad -- put a pin in Trigg's name, especially in tight end premium leagues. Rogers, meanwhile, can do just enough in both the receiving and blocking game to maintain a role in the league over the long term, but is off of fantasy radars for now.
Green Bay Packers QBs Kyle McCord and Desmond Ridder are battling to serve as the backup quarterback behind starter QB Jordan Love. The team could also add another veteran arm sometime this summer or during training camp.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals QB Carson Beck might take a backseat in his rookie season, sitting and learning. Head coach Mike LaFleur said Sunday, May 3, that 'it won't be the worst thing for him' if Beck ends up sitting for part or all of his rookie season. 'It benefits anyone in any position to be able to sit back,' LaFleur said. 'Sometimes, guys don't have the choice because you have to put your best 22 out on the field there.'
Footballguys view: The Cardinals see a lot to like in Beck. He's run pro-style schemes throughout college. His arm strength, accuracy, and toughness are all evident on tape. He's 6-4 and 220 pounds. But ESPN.com's Josh Weinfuss reports Beck's intangibles were a factor, too. Specifically, he has a level of experience that caught Arizona's attention. In addition to starting 43 games throughout his career, Beck played six years of college football. Although he's behind veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew, Footballguy Sigmund Bloom believes Beck could get a chance to start by the end of the year.
Former Fresno State QB EJ Warner, son of NFL Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner, was at a tryout over the weekend with the Kansas City at rookie minicamp.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) is on track to participate in organized team activities (OTAs), even if it is in a limited capacity. 'He is in a good position to be able to do some things,' head coach Andy Reid said. 'If he can do some things, [he'll do it]. Phase 2 [of the offseason program], remember, there's no contact and there's no offense versus defense. It's Phase 3 that you get into that. ... He's in a position where he can do everything, I think.'
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Nate Taylor, Mahomes has spent most days since his procedure inside the Chiefs' training facility as part of his rehab. In late March, Mahomes posted a four-second social media clip of him throwing the ball again inside a training gym. Since then, Mahomes has continued to increase his workout sessions. If he avoids landing on the physically unable to perform at the start of training camp, it would be a good sign for his chances of being in the lineup when the Chiefs take the field in Week 1 of the regular season.

Tennessee Titans WR Carnell Tate was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and assistant general manager Dave Ziegler said the team was 'unequivocal in its belief' that Tate was the best fit for the team going forward. 'At the end of the day with Carnell, we just had a very good, consensus vision on what he is going to do, where he is going to play, how he is going to fit in and what he is going to bring to this team,' Ziegler said. 'We feel we are really getting a complete three-down player. ... He was a clear guy for us to take and we are really excited about it.'
Footballguys view: Tate gives the Cam Ward and the Titans a boundary receiver who runs precise routes, with great size and contested-catch ability. Remember, the Titans were tied with the Raiders and Jets for last in the league with three completions of 40 yards or more. Tate caught five touchdown passes of at least 40 yards at Ohio State last season. Tate's initial post-draft Footballguys projection has him at WR33 with 73 catches, 976 yards, and six touchdowns. But Tate has the upside to outperform that projection if Ward takes a Year 2 leap.
Presbyterian RB Zach Switzer was grateful for a chance to take part in a rookie minicamp this week. The practices are not padded, and mostly about learning the playbook and going through individual drills. 'I'm super grateful, super honored, and super blessed to have the opportunity to be able to do something like this and achieve one of my dreams,' he said. 'And until [making a team], I'm just going to keep telling them I'm grateful for the opportunity.'
Link to storyBaltimore Ravens WR Ja'Kobi Lane was a pick that differed from public opinion, but general manager Eric DeCosta likes what he saw in the evaluation process, and Lane had a connection to a former Baltimore great. 'Our board is our board. We do months of work, and sometimes our evaluations differ from public consensus. Lane is a big receiver -- 6'4', ran a 4.46, excellent at contested catches with great hands,' DeCosta said. 'He has a connection through Todd Heap. We think he can be a real weapon for Lamar, especially adding big-bodied jump-ball guys after losing some speed.'
Footballguys view: The Ravens doubled down on adding a big body receiver, adding Lane at Pick 80 and Elijah Sarratt at pick 115. Zay Flowers is entrenched as Baltimore's top receiver, while Rashod Bateman is signed through 2029. Lane and Sarratt will compete with third-year Devontez Walker for the WR3 role. According to the Footballguys 2026 Rookie Guide, Lane holds more upside while Sarratt is further into his developmental curve and could contribute sooner. Lane shines as a red-zone threat, a need in the Ravens receiver room.
Baltimore Ravens TE Matthew Hibner was a player the organization really liked, and it made a rare move, trading up 21 spots to get him in the 2026 NFL Draft. 'For (Hibner), we actually traded up 21 spots to get him. That's rare for us, but we saw great value,' general manager Eric DeCosta said. 'He's athletic and productive. We gave up a future sixth-round pick and felt it was worth it to move from the fifth to the fourth round.'
Footballguys view: According to USA Today's Steve Rudden, the aggressive move up to land him underscores how highly the Ravens view Hibner's combination of production and athleticism, as well as their desire to add versatility to the Declan Doyle-led offense. Together, the mid-round selections of big-bodied wideout Ja'Kobi Lane and Hibner reflect Baltimore's commitment to evolving its passing attack -- adding size, physicality, and playmaking ability to complement its established offensive identity. Mark Andrews is still the only draftable tight end on this roster in redraft, but Hibner is part of a target-rich environment at the position in deep Dynasty leagues.
