NFL | Reggie Virgil puts together solid week Thu Jan 29, 11:53 PM
Texas Tech WR Reggie Virgil was impressive in every day of Senior Bowl practice, according to Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com, and Jeremiah believes Virgil stood out above every wide receiver with the exception of Notre Dame WR Malachi Fields.

Buffalo Bills WR Keon Coleman has a good chance to remain on the roster because head coach Joe Brady said he believes in Coleman and expects him to improve. 'He's going to continue to grow, but the elements that we saw in the draft process -- the confidence that I have in him and his ability -- and as long as he's handling what he needs to do off the field, I have no doubt that he's going to be successful on the field,' Brady said
Footballguys view: That's good for Brady to say, but it may not be how the franchise feels about the young receiver. Bills GM Brandon Beane and Bills owner Terry Pegula just last week threw Coleman under the bus for being a bad pick...or a pick that was forced by the previous coaching staff (Sean McDermott). There are videos of Beane going on and on about how he loved Coleman before the draft, but forget about the facts...things are all good now. At least that's what they want you to believe.
Seattle Seahawks OT Charles Cross (foot), OT Amari Kight (knee) and TE Eric Saubert (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Jan. 29. WR Jake Bobo (hand), QB Sam Darnold (oblique), LB Ernest Jones (chest), OT Joshua Jones (ankle, knee), S Julian Love (shoulder), FB Robbie Ouzts (neck), FB Brady Russell (hand) and LB Drake Thomas (shoulder) were limited during practice. Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold (oblique) was limited during practice Thursday, Jan. 29. The Seahawks only held a walkthrough Thursday, so this is an estimation.
Footballguys view: It's a walkthrough, so we're not concerned. This oblique injury is something to monitor next week, and it's something the team will manage leading up to the Super Bowl.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye (shoulder) was limited during practice Thursday, Jan. 29.
Footballguys view: The Super Bowl is a little over a week away. We're confident that Maye will get out there in the biggest game of his career. A shoulder injury can be problematic, so we'll see how limited Maye is in practice next week.

Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion has been hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as their new offensive coordinator.
Footballguys view: A former quarterback, Mannion now gets to work with Jalen Hurts. Expect more West Coast/Shanahan concepts from Mannion's offense. He's played for Sean McVay (a Mike Shanahan disciple), and worked with Kevin O'Connell (Vikings) and Matt LaFleur (Packers). With wide-zone running and play-action passing a hallmark of those systems, expect the Eagles to be more explosive on offense in 2026.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Chase Brown and his reps are 'working hard' on an extension.
Footballguys view: Browns 2025 season started slowly, but he exploded in the second half of the year and finished with his first 1,000-yard rushing season of his career. Add in his 69 catches and you can see how impactful Brown is on the Bengals' offense. With Joe Burrow back in action in 2026, Brown can continue to be the primary back on an explosive offense.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) underwent surgery on Monday, Jan. 26, and will make a full recovery.
Footballguys view: This was an aggravation from an old injury that Allen sustained in Week 16 against the Browns. It's nothing that will keep Allen out of offseason activities. Expect Allen out there when OTAs kick off later this spring.

Buffalo Bills TE Dalton Kincaid (knee) played with a torn PCL during the 2025 season. He does not expect a procedure to be done after feeling better following the season.
Footballguys view: Kincaid was limited in practice for much of the season. With no procedure done, Kincaid is likely to be ready when minicamp and OTAs kick off in the spring.

Arkansas RB Mike Washington Jr. continued impressing at Senior Bowl practices Wednesday, Jan. 28. He had a few of those runs where he exhibited quick, downhill cuts that sprung long gains on outside runs. He also made explosive plays as a pass catcher in one-on-one drills.
Footballguys view: Washington is a big back (228 pounds) and is a bell-cow back who can take on a large workload. In addition to size and contact balance, Washington can be relied on as a receiver out of the backfield. Early projections have Washington going off the board in the mid-rounds of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Baylor WR Josh Cameron has impressed at the Senior Bowl with his size and hands. He fought through cornerbacks looking to impede his route and overpowered them to the spot for the catch. He was able to outwork tight man coverage for 50/50 balls that typically turn into incompletions. Some draft experts are raising his grade based on his performance thus far.
Footballguys view: Cameron is a possession receiver who is built like a running back. He's strong enough to pick up yards after contact, and Cameron does a good job in the open field. He should be a Day 3 pick, but this performance at the Senior Bowl might cause him to rise into late Day 2 in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Baltimore Ravens wide receivers coach Greg Lewis has been hired for the same role with the Tennessee Titans, according to sources.

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix (ankle) said he suffered a typical bone break and is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks.
Footballguys view: Good news for the Broncos here. Nix is unlikely to miss any preparation time this offseason. The team could limit him in minicamp and OTAs, but this is a much better time than initially reported. The Broncos were Super Bowl contenders with Nix, and they'll be in the mix for a deep postseason run in 2026.
Updating a previous report, New York Giants running backs coach Ladell Betts has been hired by the Miami Dolphins as their running backs coach, according to a source.

Missouri WR Kevin Coleman was a smooth route runner during Senior Bowl practice Tuesday, Jan. 27, and showed reliable hand, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jordan Reid. He also did not have a problem fielding punts on a windy day.
Footballguys view: Coleman is built for All-Star practices like this week's festivities in Mobile, AL. He's a quick and fast receiver who accelerates in the blink of an eye. His ability after the catch makes him a weapon to be concerned with, no matter the target depth. He'll need to add more strength to his frame to take the beating WRs get in the NFL, but Coleman is a mid-round pick and climbing draft boards.
John Carroll WR Tyren Montgomery made some plays during Senior Bowl practice Wednesday, Jan. 28, and has helped his draft stock this week, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jordan Reid.
Footballguys view: A Division III player, Montgomery is standing out at the Senior Bowl against D-1 talent. A former walk-on at LSU (basketball), Montgomery proved himself over the last two years (over 2,600 yards receiving and 32 touchdowns). He's gotten the attention of scouts at the Senior Bowl and could be moving up in the draft (to perhaps the mid-rounds).

Kansas City Chiefs QB Gardner Minshew (knee) did not tear his ACL in Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans. Further testing reveals he suffered a bone bruise that did not require surgery.
Footballguys view: Good news for Minshew as he's an unrestricted free agent this offseason. With no knee injury to deal with this offseason, there's likely to be at least a few teams interested in Minshew as a backup quarterback.

Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) is working out and eyeing a return to full workout by April.
Footballguys view: New Falcons HC Kevin Stefanski shared his excitement for Penix at his introductory press conference. The Falcons agreed to a modified contract with Kirk Cousins earlier this month, and that could make him a tradable asset if Penix is considered the unquestioned starter.
Denver Broncos wide receivers coach Keary Colbert and cornerbacks coach Addison Lynch were let go on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (oblique) suffered an abdominal injury in August, and the injury hampered him into September and October before eventually ending his season a month prematurely. 'I couldn't use my core. So, I was throwing the ball without a core,' Nussmeier said at the Senior Bowl. 'I've been having to go back from the ground up and retrain myself and get back to finishing throws and rotating through the ball. I'm actually using my core now.' He completed 67.4% of his passes for 1,927 yards and 12 TDs in 2025 before shutting it down.

Link to storyUniversity of Iowa QB Mark Gronowski was the offensive MVP at the 101st East-West Shrine Bowl at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said he is 'excited' about QB Will Howard.
Footballguys view: While McCarthy was quick to acknowledge he'd like Aaron Rodgers to return for the 2026 season, free agency starts in six weeks. If Rodgers isn't returning, they'll need to have a plan. At least part of that will be Howard. "I think he's someone that I thought he really came on at Ohio State," McCarthy told reporters. "I'm anxious to work with him, so it'd be great to have Aaron back, but Will and Mason [Rudolph], I'm really excited to get started with those guys." Stay tuned.
Green Bay Packers QB coach Sean Mannion will interview for the offensive coordinator vacancy of the Philadelphia Eagles this week.
Footballguys view: This will be Mannion's second interview with the club, as he previously met virtually with the Eagles. Mannion, 33, just finished his first year as Green Bay's quarterbacks coach. A Rams third-round pick in 2015, Mannion played for the Rams from 2015 to 2018. He also played for Seattle and Minnesota. In Green Bay, Mannion has worked closely with Packers quarterback Jordan Love. Mannion has also coached backup Malik Willis, who has played well when called upon. The Eagles are searching for their fifth offensive coordinator under head coach Nick Sirianni after moving on from Kevin Patullo after one season.

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton says it 'seems fairly optimistic' that QB Bo Nix (ankle) will be ready for training camp. Nix suffered a broken ankle that required surgery in the AFC divisional round against the Buffalo Bills.
Footballguys view: The initial phase of recovery from last week's surgery is the most challenging part of this injury. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Nix is not supposed to put any weight on his ankle for at least four weeks, and he will miss 12 weeks altogether before he can return to activity. Nix is expected to be largely recovered in time to participate in the Broncos' offseason program. Still, doctors are trying to be very intentional with what Denver's quarterback can and can't do over the next 12 weeks. We'll be watching for more.
