Texans | Jimmie Ward in trouble with the law Fri Jun 13, 02:56 PM
Houston Texans DB Jimmie Ward is facing a felony assault family violence charge following an incident at his home on Thursday, June 12.
Footballguys view: As we've seen in recent years, the NFL prefers to wait to suspend players for off-field incidents until after the legal system has concluded its process, which can take years. Ward opened last season as a starter for the Texans, but missed almost half of the season and the playoffs. The team traded for Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and has Calen Bullock and Jalen Pitre youthfully ascending at safety, so Ward is not essential if he does have to sit out at some point in 2025 because of this. |

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills CB Maxwell Hairston (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury in practice on Wednesday, June 11, and did not practice on Thursday, June 12. According to general manager Brandon Beane, Hairston is receiving treatment on the injury and expected to be ready for the start of training camp next month.
Footballguys view: Hairston was presumably drafted to match with the speedy receivers the Bills will have to face in the playoffs. We'll be watching to see if he's ready for the open of camp and can stay healthy so he can suit up for the highly anticipated season opener against Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, DeAndre Hopkins and the rest of the Baltimore Ravens. |
Buffalo Bills first-round draft choice CB Maxwell Hairston (Kentucky) signed his four-year rookie contract on Friday, June 13. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, but the deal includes a fifth-year team option.

Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey is not at the team's minicamp Tuesday, June 10.
Footballguys view: Ramsey's absence is excused, per head coach Mike McDaniel, and therefore, he will not be fined. The Dolphins are in the process of trying to trade the Pro Bowl corner, so it makes sense that they wouldn't require his presence during minicamp. |

Free-agent CB Jaire Alexander (Packers) was the subject of trade talks between the Buffalo Bills and the Green Bay Packers before the Packers decided to release Alexander, according to sources.

Green Bay Packers CB Jaire Alexander was released Monday, June 9.
Footballguys view: The Packers have tried to trade Alexander this offseason, and they've also tried to work out a revised contract, but those efforts have been unsuccessful. Talent isn't the concern with the 28-year-old corner. When healthy, the 2018 first-round pick is one of the best cover men in the NFL. Instead, Alexander is on his way out after missing 34 games over the last four seasons. The timing of the release coincides with the Packers' opening of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. The Bills were among the teams discussing a possible trade, and they could pursue Alexander as a free agent. |

Cleveland Browns DE Alex Wright (undisclosed) and S Ronnie Hickman (undisclosed) worked on the side during practice Wednesday, May 28.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins CB Cam Smith (leg) suffered an apparent leg injury during practice Wednesday, May 28.
Footballguys view: A second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Smith has played 21 games in two pro seasons (with zero starts). He's been banged up quite a bit so far in his young pro career, but he's an athletic (and sometimes grabby) corner who doesn't back down from a challenge. The physical talent has always been there with Smith, but he needs to get healthy and stay healthy to further prove himself as a pro player (and possible starter). |

'I put everything, my heart and my soul into this year, to this team, to this group of guys, and then we revisit those things in the offseason,' Byard said this week, via team transcript. Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills CB Tre'Davious White signed a one-year contract in April that could max out at $6.8 million. However, the deal will pay him a base salary of $1.56 million, a signing bonus of $1 million and guarantee him $2.2 million at signing along with some incentives and workout bonuses. All told, he will count only $2.88 million against the salary cap in 2025.

Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey continues to garner trade interest, but the team said nothing is imminent.
Footballguys view: While nothing may be imminent, Ramsey is likely gone in the near future. The Dolphins would incur a $25 million salary cap hit if they trade him before July 1, and it's roughly $7 million if he's dealt after that. Wolfe has reported a few teams to monitor, including the Rams, Panthers, and Falcons. |

Green Bay Packers S Javon Bullard could be the odd man out in the secondary, in the opinion of The Athletic's Matt Schneidman, who writes that newly signed CB Nate Hobbs is likely to play in the slot in nickel situations with CBs Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine (or CB Jaire Alexander, if he remains with the club) working on the outside. Bullard is currently behind S Evan Williams on the safety depth chart as well, per Schneidman.
