Cowboys | Jonathan Garibay to receive competition?    Sat Jun 25, 07:29 PM

Dallas Cowboys PK Jonathan Garibay is the only kicker on the roster as an undrafted free agent, although Dallas is likely to add a veteran prior to the opening of training camp in late July, according to ESPN's Todd Archer, for competition. Archer points to head coach Mike McCarthy's patience and history trusting Green Bay Packers then-rookie PK Mason Crosby in 2007 as possible indicators working in Garibay's favor of winning the job.

Footballguys view: The job is Garibay's to lose, but his competition isn't just any other kicker on the roster, it's also the kickers who lose other kicker battles around the league. Garibay will have to have a great summer to keep the Cowboys from having second thoughts about adding a more experienced kicker if they become available at final cutdowns.

Cowboys | Dalton Schultz, DAL 'far apart' on extension    Fri Jun 24, 02:01 PM

The Dallas Cowboys and TE Dalton Schultz are 'far apart' in contract extension talks, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. If no deal is reached by Friday, July 15, Schultz will play the 2022 campaign on the franchise tag, which is worth $10.93 million.

Footballguys view: Remember the Cowboys took Jake Ferguson (Wisconsin) in the fourth round. He could be Schultz's replacement in 2023 if this is the last year Schultz is with the team. The Cowboys being willing to tag Schultz, but not sign him long term at his desired salary is a bad sign for his dynasty value.

Cowboys | Micah Parsons eyeing sack record    Fri Jun 24, 10:33 AM

Dallas Cowboys LB Micah Parsons said his goal is to get 23 sacks this season to break the single-season record.

Footballguys view: It might be tough for him to do that with the Cowboys losing Randy Gregory in free agency, but if Dante Fowler can regain his form under his former coach Dan Quinn, the Cowboys and Parsons will both benefit. Parsons remains an elite IDP option at linebacker heading into this season.

Cowboys | Michael Gallup eyeing September return?    Tue Jun 21, 03:06 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup (knee) 'might not be ready for Week 1, but he should be ready sometime in September,' according to ESPN.com's Todd Archer.

Footballguys view: Gallup is coming back from the ACL injury he suffered in Week 17 last year. He's unlikely to be ready for the start of camp, making the PUP list to begin camp an option. Gallup may not go on PUP to start the regular season because that would automatically knock him out for the first six weeks. However, short-term IR is an option which would mean a four-game absence. Or, the Cowboys could carry him active and ease him in sometime in September. Gallup is a WR4 with upside for Fantasy GMs.

Cowboys | CeeDee Lamb resting hamstring    Fri Jun 17, 10:24 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb (hamstring) was sidelined for June minicamp with a hamstring injury, but he expects to be ready for training camp.

Footballguys view: Lamb doesn't need to be out there for every practice rep. He's one of the best wide receivers in the game today, and Lamb is a no-brainer WR1 for Fantasy GMs. If you want Lamb on your fantasy team, prepare to spend a mid second-round pick on the superstar receiver. His current ADP is WR7 (2.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

Cowboys | Hamstring bothering Noah Brown     Fri Jun 17, 10:18 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Noah Brown (hamstring) has been sidelined for minicamp practices with a minor hamstring injury.

Footballguys view: Brown has talent and has flashed a bit when he's gotten onto the field for the Cowboys. A seventh-round pick out of Ohio State in the 2017 NFL draft, Brown is there for depth but could see more action if WR Michael Gallup (ACL) isn't ready for Week 1.

Cowboys | Kelvin Joseph should be ready for camp    Thu Jun 16, 02:52 PM

Dallas Cowboys CB Kelvin Joseph (undisclosed) missed the end of the spring with a 'minor' injury, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Joseph is expected to be a 'full-go' for the start of training camp.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott in tip-top condition    Thu Jun 16, 02:23 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has had a 'tremendous offseason' and is in 'top shape,' according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Footballguys view: Ah yes, mid-June means we get plenty of 'best shape of his life' stories out there across the NFL. Elliott is in great shape by all accounts, but he is not the same player he used to be. He's arguably not even the best back on the Cowboys roster at this moment with Tony Pollard looking like a star in waiting. However, Jerry Jones is going to insist the team uses Elliott up as the lead back and that means Fantasy GMs should see him still as a high-end RB2 with upside.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott to run more?    Tue Jun 14, 12:08 PM

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott could see an uptick in designed runs in 2022, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Now more than a year removed from the ankle injury that took his 2020 season, the Cowboys may be more comfortable letting Prescott run more.

Footballguys view: Running and keeping plays alive with his feet are a big part of Prescott's game. He can win from the pocket, something that's still necessary in today's NFL, but Prescott can be even more dangerous when he's able to use his legs to either buy time for his arm or gash a defense with his legs. He's a QB1 for Fantasy GMs - no doubt - but he could work into the top-5 at his position if he's running a bit more (and getting some more rushing touchdowns) in 2022.

Cowboys | Dalton Schultz coming to town    Tue Jun 14, 08:10 AM

Dallas Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz will report to camp Tuesday, June 14, as contract talks have intensified in recent days.

Footballguys view: Schultz is set to play on the franchise tag, and there is a July 15 deadline to get a long-term deal done. It sounds like things are moving in the right direction. Schultz is a favorite target of QB Dak Prescott, and he should be the second target in the passing game behind WR CeeDee Lamb.

Cowboys | Slot work likely for Tony Pollard?    Mon Jun 13, 01:13 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Tony Pollard has not only lined up regularly with Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield during offseason practices, but he has also taken part in receiver drills - including a fair amount of work in the slot - according to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Footballguys view: This report has been out there earlier this offseason. The Cowboys should do what they can to get Pollard the ball as much as they can in any way they can. He's arguably the best running back on the roster, but Pollard will still be a reserve behind starting RB Ezekiel Elliott. As it stands right now, Pollard has plenty of flex appeal for Fantasy GMs with the upside to be a RB1 if he's the lead back if/when Elliott is banged up.

Cowboys | Tony Pollard willing to work in slot    Fri Jun 10, 05:19 PM

Dallas Cowboys RB Tony Pollard said he hopes to receive more touches this upcoming season and is willing to line up at slot receiver for more chances, according to The Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins.

Footballguys view: The Cowboys should use Pollard more this year, and we can even make the argument that he's the best running back on the roster. However, Ezekiel Elliott is still on the roster as the lead back and they'll use him as the featured player in the backfield. Pollard has flex appeal for Fantasy GMs and if he had a larger role if/when Elliott gets banged up then he could perform like a top-10 RB1.

Cowboys | Dalton Schultz' status for minicamp uncertain    Thu Jun 9, 05:09 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz's status for the mandatory minicamp next week is still uncertain, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Footballguys view: Schultz doesn't have much recourse under the new CBA and will incur sizeable fines if he sits out the minicamp. If the Cowboys can't get something done with Schultz by July 15, fourth-round pick Jake Ferguson becomes a lot more interesting in dynasty leagues.

Cowboys | Jake Ferguson signs rookie deal    Wed Jun 8, 02:29 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson agreed to a four-year rookie contract on Wednesday, June 8, per source. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Ferguson is a talented move tight end with the speed to attack the seam. He's tough over the middle and not afraid of contact either. He'll serve as a backup to TE Dalton Schultz as a rookie. Keep tabs on him in dynasty formats.

Cowboys | Dalton Schultz may skip minicamp    Mon Jun 6, 07:50 PM

Dallas Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz is considering skipping the mandatory minicamp because of his current contract situation.

Footballguys view: Keep an eye on this situation. Schultz could be fined if he misses mandatory work since he has already signed his tender offer.

Cowboys | Dalton Schultz skipping rest of OTAs    Mon Jun 6, 08:57 AM

Dallas Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz informed the team he's skipping the rest of voluntary organized team activities. Schultz signed his franchise tender and will make $10.931 million if he doesn't reach a deal by July 15.

Footballguys view: Schultz doesn't have much leverage here, so it doesn't really change the chances of him getting a long term deal, but it does indicate that he and the team might be too far apart to get a deal done before July 15, which would boost the dynasty value of fourth round pick Jake Ferguson, who some have praised already.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott has chip on shoulder    Sat Jun 4, 10:50 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott said he has something to prove after he was hampered by injuries last season.

Footballguys view: Elliott needs to stay healthy and outperform Tony Pollard if he still wants to be the Cowboys workhorse back. They should use Pollard in tandem with Elliott, but if he's healthy the team has proven to use Elliott more near pay dirt. His stats may not be much more than they were last year in terms of rushing yards or receptions. If Elliott is the primary goal-line back and gets double-digit touchdowns that will boost his fantasy value. He's an RB2 in all formats.

Cowboys | WR Washington Could 'Shine' in 2022    Fri Jun 3, 03:19 PM

Mike Kaye, from Pro Football Network, reports Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington could 'shine' in the team's offense this season.

Footballguys view: We could see Washington start opposite of CeeDee Lamb, but that depends on the health status of WR Michael Gallup as he comes back from the ACL injury he suffered in Week 17. He flashed during his time with the Steelers, but we're not going to say he will 'shine' with the Cowboys. Watch to see what Washington looks like in the preseason before considering him as a late-round stash for your fantasy team.

Cowboys | James Washington out of boot    Thu Jun 2, 08:10 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) was not wearing a walking boot on his foot during practice Thursday, June 2, but did not participate in any drills.

Cowboys | QB Prescott Expects RB Elliott's Best    Sun May 29, 01:27 PM

Charean Williams, from Pro Football Talk, reports Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott expect the best from RB Ezekiel Elliott now that he's healthy. "Nothing ever changes for my expectations of Zeke, of who he is, how he leads this team, how he approaches the game," Prescott said last week, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com. "He comes in like a pro each and every day and does that, so I expect his best. When you do that and do it with the intentfulness he does, he's going to get better. When Zeke's healthy, I don't think there's a better back."

Footballguys view: The veteran quarterback is going to stick up for his teammate, and of course he's going to expect a lot from him. We've seen Elliott be a dominant force in the NFL in years past. However, it's been quite some time since he's been that guy and Elliott should split time with RB Tony Pollard. Fantasy GMs are still looking at Elliott as a mid-range RB2 so long as he can stay healthy.

Cowboys | WR Washington to be OK for Mandatory Minicamp    Sun May 29, 12:30 PM

Calvin Watkins, from the Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington is in a walking boot right now but expects to be ready for mandatory minicamp in a couple of weeks.

Footballguys view: It was a bit of a surprise when Washington was seen at voluntary workouts wearing a walking boot. There's no injury designation during the offseason, so we are left to wonder what the ailment is. It must not be serious if Washington is going to be participating in mandatory minicamp here in two weeks.

Cowboys | CeeDee Lamb ready for No. 1 role    Sat May 28, 12:51 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb says he is ready to take the reins as the team's No. 1 wide receiver. 'I've been ready,' Lamb said. 'That's just me and my competitiveness. That's in my nature. It's kind of how we grew up playing football. I'm always ready for my name to be called.'

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs are ready for Lamb to take over the no.1 spot as well. Lamb gained 10 pounds of muscle this offseason, and he's already got the trust of QB Dak Prescott. Fantasy GMs are taking Lamb off the board in the first round of many fantasy drafts, and he's a WR1 every-week starter this season.

Cowboys | James Washington on track for minicamp    Wed May 25, 03:52 PM

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) will not indicate why he is wearing a walking boot but said he should participate in the mandatory minicamp in a few weeks.

Footballguys view: Washington doesn't need to say why he's wearing a boot as this is the offseason and there are no injury designations needed. With Michael Gallup coming back from a Week 17 ACL injury, Washington could have a larger-than-expected role to start the 2022 regular season.

Cowboys | Jalen Tolbert on sidelines    Wed May 25, 03:17 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Jalen Tolbert (undisclosed) worked with the team's director of rehabilitation on the side during practice Wednesday, May 25.

Footballguys view: Tolbert rewrote the record book at South Alabama, and the Cowboys liked him enough to snare him in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft. He is a receiver that wins with strength and the ability to time passes at the highest point. Tolbert needs to work on his route-running to be the best pro he can be. The rookie is working to be the no.3 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup.

Cowboys | James Washington in boot    Wed May 25, 03:16 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR James Washington (foot) did not participate in practice Wednesday, May 25, and was wearing a walking boot on his left foot.

Footballguys view: There's no word what the injury is, and there's no injury designation needed during the offseason. Washington signed a one-year deal this offseason with the Cowboys after flashing at times during his four years with the Steelers. With Michael Gallup coming back from a Week 17 ACL injury, Washington could have a larger-than-expected role to start the 2022 regular season.

Dallas Cowboys WR Jalen Tolbert impressed his coaches at rookie minicamp. 'He's awesome,' offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said of the 2022 third-round pick. 'I think he works his tail off. I think you can tell how prepared he is and how detailed he wants to be. I think he's going to be a really good addition for us.'

Footballguys view: Tolbert has made a good first impression, which could be an important step to being one of the few rookies to start at wide receiver in Week 1. James Washington is his main competition, although Michael Gallup will obviously get the #2 job back when he is recovered from a January ACL tear.

Cowboys | Sam Williams, Jalen Tolbert signed    Tue May 17, 05:58 PM

Dallas Cowboys second-round draft choice DE Sam Williams and third-round draft choice WR Jalen Tolbert signed four-year contracts with the Cowboys Tuesday, May 17. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Williams, along with free agent signing Dante Fowler, will help replace Randy Gregory, who signed with Denver this offseason. He's a talented edge rusher but his game is not complete even though he proved himself against SEC competition. Tolbert will push free agent signing James Washington to start opposite CeeDee Lamb if Michael Gallup isn't ready to begin the season after suffering a torn ACL in Week 17.

Cowboys | Jalen Tolbert with a shot at No. 2 WR?    Sun May 15, 06:37 PM

Dallas Cowboys WR Jalen Tolbert could earn the No. 2 receiver role in Dallas in his first season, ESPN's Jordan Reid speculates. 'Amari Cooper is gone, and Michael Gallup is recovering from a torn ACL, so Tolbert arrives in a situation where he's likely an instant contributor,' Reid wrote. 'CeeDee Lamb is the obvious top option, but Tolbert could find himself as the No. 2 target on the perimeter earlier than expected.'

Footballguys view: Tolbert rewrote the record book in college at South Alabama, and he's got the skill to make an impact at the pro level. He needs more nuance at the position, improving concentration as a pass-catcher and effort as a blocker, in order to be the best pro he can be. Tolbert has a nice size/speed combination and plucks the ball naturally out of the air with arms extended away from his body. He gets plenty of opportunity this year with the Cowboys - and he can play on the outside or from the slot.

Cowboys | Establishing the Run is Big per Elliott    Sun May 8, 03:56 PM

Jori Epstein, from USA Today Sports, reports Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott believes that establishing the run is "big" for the team's offense. "Just the ability to keep (Prescott) clean, give him the ability to go out there and go through his reads and throw the ball on time to the playmakers we have outside -- that's big. Establishing the run is big for our team and going to be important for us this year. I think the pick we made in the first round will help us." Elliott told USA Today Sports.

Footballguys view: Elliott is a fan of what the team did through the 2022 NFL draft, and Fantasy GMs are hoping he's in for a bounce-back season. His statistical output was "ok" last season, but it's nowhere near what Elliott did in previous seasons (2016, 2018, 2019). He will work with Tony Pollard in the Cowboys backfield once again this season. Elliott has a current ADP of RB14 (3.01) in 12-team PPR leagues.
