Cowboys | Jake Ferguson trending up Tue Sep 17, 01:27 AM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson (knee) appears to be trending toward playing in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens. Team executive president Stephen Jones said Monday, Sept. 16, that Ferguson was 'real close' to playing in Week 2, and he is expected to play in Week 3.
Footballguys view: Ferguson suffered an MCL sprain in Dallas' Week 1 win over the Browns. The 25-year-old tight end told reporters last week that his pain level was a 0 on Wednesday and thought he initially had an ACL injury. Luke Schoonmaker played well in Ferguson's place in the Week 2 loss to New Orleans, catching all six of his targets for 43 yards. Still, Dallas' offense will be better with Ferguson on the field. The Cowboys have a pivotal matchup this week against the Baltimore Ravens, who struggled to stop Raiders TE Brock Bowers in Week 2. |

Cowboys | Jalen Tolbert finishes with 82 yards Sun Sep 15, 06:01 PM
Dallas Cowboys WR Jalen Tolbert caught six passes for 82 yards against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2. He was targeted nine times during the game.
Footballguys view: Tolbert will be on the Week 3 waiver wire list after posting a strong effort, including a great hustle fumble recovery to try to keep his team in a game that was getting away from them early. The Cowboys are going to have to pass a lot this year, and teams are going to give a lot of attention to CeeDee Lamb, so Tolbert's value is on the rise. |
Cowboys | CeeDee Lamb catches TD pass Sun Sep 15, 05:58 PM
Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb caught four passes for 90 yards and one touchdown against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2. He was targeted seven times during the game.
Footballguys view: Lamb eluded a tackle to break free for a 65-yard score to key his solid showing. He hasn't been worth the top 2 pick he cost yet, and this was disappointing in a game the Cowboys played from behind all day. Teams are going to sell out to take away Lamb until better complementary targets emerge, but he showed today that he can still come through on limited targets. |

Cowboys | Dak Prescott throws one TD, two INTs Sun Sep 15, 05:02 PM
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott went 27-for-39 for 293 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2. He also rushed for 12 yards on two carries during the game.
Footballguys view: Prescott can't live on throws to CeeDee Lamb alone. Jalen Tolbert had a solid game today and could be emerging as a complementary target, but Prescott needs Jake Ferguson to get healthy before he can start to hit his fantasy ceiling. The Saints defense has also been strong so far this year. The Ravens defense will be licking their wounds after a close loss to the Raiders when they face Dallas next week. |

Link to storyCowboys | Jake Ferguson 'very optimistic' Wed Sep 11, 02:51 PM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson (knee) is 'very optimistic' about his chances of playing in Week 2, head coach Mike McCarthy said on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Footballguys view: Ferguson suffered an MCL sprain in Week 1, but now there's optimism about his playing status in Week 2. If Ferguson can't play, Luke Schoonmaker would get the start and he's got a similar skill set. Keep that in mind if you're looking for tight end depth. |
Cowboys | Hunter Luepke about to step up? Tue Sep 10, 02:32 PM
Dallas Cowboys FB Hunter Luepke logged only eight of his 20 offensive snaps out of the backfield in Week 1 - the other 12 came in-line as a tight end, in the slot or out wide - indicating that he will play more often at tight end with Jake Ferguson (knee) likely to miss some time. To that end, head coach Mike McCarthy suggested Luekpe will be the man 'at the front of the line' when it comes to replacing Ferguson.
Footballguys view: While Ferguson's return might come more quickly than expected, Luepke seeing more action in the short term makes sense. Luke Schoonmaker is the team's second TE; they also have Brevyn Spann-Ford and John Stephens Jr., who was inactive Sunday because of a hamstring strain. That trio has combined for 13 catches for 101 yards in their careers. Based on this news, we should be cautious in pursuing Schoonmaker as a waiver-wire pickup. |
Cowboys | Jake Ferguson could go? Tue Sep 10, 11:56 AM
Dallas Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson (knee) has optimism to play, according to team owner Jerry Jones.
Footballguys view: A source also told ESPN.com's Todd Archer that Ferguson could still play Sunday against the Saints after being diagnosed with a bone bruise and a minor MCL sprain. While that seems like a reach, it's a situation worth monitoring. If nothing else, Ferguson investors can use this information to better decide their level of investment in a possible replacement. This doesn't sound like a long-term issue. Meanwhile, if Ferguson cannot play Sunday or is out even longer, Luke Schoonmaker is next man up at the position. The team also has Brevyn Spann-Ford and John Stephens Jr., who was inactive Sunday because of a hamstring strain. They have combined for 13 catches for 101 yards in their careers. |
Cowboys | Terence Steele restructures deal Tue Sep 10, 09:26 AM

Link to storyCowboys | Tests Reveal MCL Sprain For TE Jake Ferguson Mon Sep 9, 11:18 AM
Tests revealed an MCL sprain for Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson, which means he'll miss time. But overall, it's good news and not season-ending.
Footballguys view: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added Ferguson, who also has a bone bruise, is week to week. This isn't surprising news after reports late Sunday night indicated initial tests showed Ferguson avoided an ACL tear. We'll watch for more on a specific timetable here, but Ferguson caught three passes for 15 yards in Sunday's win over the Browns. His absence, however long, would give 2023 second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker a more significant role. Brevyn Spann-Ford and John Stephens are the other tight ends on the active roster. |

Cowboys | Jake Ferguson Not Believed To Have Torn ACL; MRI Coming Monday Sun Sep 8, 10:13 PM
Tight end Jake Ferguson's left knee injury was one of the few negative developments for the Cowboys in Sunday's win over the Brown. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Ferguson is not believed to have suffered an ACL tear based on initial tests.
Footballguys view: Ferguson will still have an MRI on Monday in Dallas, but Rapoport suggested the initial positive outcome, which explains why QB Dak Prescott told reporters, "I think we dodged a big one." We'll be watching for more. |

Dallas Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson (knee) left the Week 1 game early after suffering an apparent knee injury.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott receives massive extension Sun Sep 8, 11:26 AM
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension with the Cowboys Sunday, Sept. 8, worth $240 million. The deal includes $231 million in guaranteed money.
Footballguys view: This is a bit of a surprise as it seemed like the window to sign Prescott had closed and he had already talked about not being afraid of playing for a second team. It's great news for CeeDee Lamb's dynasty value as the prospect of playing without Prescott next year would have added a lot of uncertainty to his outlook. |
