Rams | Aaron Donald put on retired list Fri Jul 26, 05:07 PM
Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald was placed on the Reserve/Retired list on Friday, July 26.

Los Angeles Rams WR Demarcus Robinson boasts an 'unreal' movement pattern and 'can go out there and run every route,' according to teammate Puka Nacua.'The movement pattern he has, I think, is unreal. The energy that he has is something that we thrive off in the receiver room. He can go out there and run every route. Being the 'X' receiver, he's kind of on the back side solo. He has a lot of opportunities to run some of those 'X' receiver routes, but the versatility that he has to run the short game, intermediate game, and especially to go out there and run the deep ball. That's what we saw him do last year,' Nacua said.

Los Angeles Rams CB Derion Kendrick (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a torn anterior cruciate ligament on Friday, July 26.

Los Angeles Rams CB Darious Williams (hamstring) appeared to injure his leg on the final play of practice on Thursday, July 25. Head coach Sean McVay did not have an update on Williams' status, but he did note that Williams 'felt it in his hamstring.'
Link to storyUpdating an earlier report, Los Angeles Rams CB Derion Kendrick (knee) did indeed suffer a torn ACL on Thursday, July 25. The injury was confirmed by head coach Sean McVay. Kendrick will miss the 2024 season.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams CB Derion Kendrick (knee) is feared to have torn his anterior cruciate ligament in practice Thursday, July 25.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams WR Tutu Atwell believes he will be the team's primary kick returner in 2024, although the team has yet to determine who will begin the season with the job.'Yeah, no doubt. I'm going to be back there this year. We're going to see some Tutu at kick return. When I found out about the new rule, I was like, 'Man, dang. Knowing you got guys coming down full speed but they've got to wait until I catch the ball, it's going to be dangerous. I'll take a chance at that this year,' Atwell said.
Footballguys view: Atwell provides more fantasy value in leagues that reward return yardage points. He's tough to bring down in the open field because of his speed and quickness. In most leagues, Atwell will be left on the waiver wire as he's the Rams' no.4 wide receiver. |

Los Angeles Rams TE Tyler Higbee (knee) will begin training camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: While on the PUP list, Higbee, recovering from a torn ACL, cannot practice but can participate in other team activities. He can also be activated at any time, at which point he can practice. This designation does not guarantee that he will miss any regular-season games. If the Rams keep Higbee on the reserve/PUP list when final roster cuts are made, however, he will be required to miss at least the season's first four games. |

Sean McVay says the Rams agreed on a new deal with QB Matthew Stafford. He'll be in camp. "I am relieved." McVay added how it was done was "healthy" for all involved.
Footballguys view: NFL Network's Mike Garafolo notes that McVay isn't diving too much into the details of the agreement but says it's not an extension. Assuming that's the case, the quarterback still has three years remaining on the $40-million-per-year extension he signed in 2022, but this season was supposed to be the final year with a guaranteed salary. As Stafford enters his age-36 season, he was seeking more security. We'll be watching for more details, but it appears Stafford now has that desired security. |

Updating a previous report, free-agent S John Johnson III (Rams) signed an undisclosed contract to return to the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday, July 9.

Los Angeles Rams WR Demarcus Robinson caught 20 of his 26 targets for 371 yards and four touchdowns in 2023. The resulting 120.8 passer rating on targets in his direction ranked 15th among qualified pass-catchers in the league last season, according to Pro Football Reference.
Footballguys view: Robinson is a trusted player in the Rams' wide receiver room. This year, Robinson will have to keep Tutu Atwell from being the no.3 receiver behind Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. We'll see Robinson battle Atwell for that spot in training camp and the preseason. |

Los Angeles Rams CB Tre'Davious White (Achilles) likely will be one of the starting cornerbacks this season if he is healthy enough to play in Week 1, in the opinion of RamsWire's Cameron DaSilva.

Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams is expected to be the starter with RB Blake Corum serving as more of a change-of-pace back, in the opinion of beat writer Adam Grosbard. Williams has the trust of head coach Sean McVay more than former Rams RB Cam Akers ever did, according to Grosbard.
Footballguys view: Williams has fallen from his early offseason ADP in the second round, but that might be ill-advised if Corum is merely a backup who gives the starter a spell from time to time during the game. He's an enticing pick in the third round, especially if you haven't taken a running back in the first two rounds. We will be watching to see if the foot issue that cost him some spring practices is still lingering when camp opens later this month. |

Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua 'looks just like Cooper (Kupp)' and gained 'so much lean muscle' by training with Kupp this offseason, according to wide receivers coach Eric Yarber.'The first thing I wanted him to do is hold on to Cooper Kupp's coattails and train with him and do everything he does. And he took that to heart. ... His body is totally different. He looks just like Cooper. He's lost so much body fat and gained so much lean muscle, which enabled him to move more efficiently now. And he has better body control. But he did exactly what I said,' Yarber said.
Footballguys view: Nacua is going in the first round of fantasy drafts even though his stats weren't that much better than Cooper Kupp's when they played together last year, and that was with Kupp not 100% at times. Nacua's growth going into year two can make him a good pick in the first even if Kupp also ends up being a good pick in the third round, where he is currently going. If both are healthy, it's going to be a problem for defenses and potentially make Matthew Stafford a low QB1 and great value at his current ADP around QB20. |
Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams said he hopes to be more involved in the passing game this upcoming season since RB Blake Corum can help out in the running game.
Footballguys view: Williams is being positive, but he is also confirming the possibility of the fear that is driving his slide down best ball and redraft boards. His receiving ability is a strong part of his skillset, but if Williams is thinking about this already, then we need to take the possibility of a true committee here more seriously. This should still be one of the more productive offenses in the league and Williams showed how he can excel in it, so if Williams is still in the late third, he's probably going to be a good pick. |
According to ESPN.com's Sarah Barshop, it might seem odd to consider Cooper Kupp as a surprise offseason standout. But Kupp is heathy this spring, and it's showing up on the practice field. Rams head coach Sean McVay said during OTAs that he doesn't think "anyone really understands the amount of things [Kupp was] working through last season" with his injury and that the receiver has been able to build his body "from the ground up."
Footballguys view: The 2021 receiving triple-crown winner has played through significant injuries the past two seasons -- including a hamstring issue that sidelined him for all of training camp and the first month of the regular season last year. Kupp finished last season with 59 catches for 737 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games, his fewest receiving yards since 2018 when he played in just eight games. While Puka Nacua will be the first Rams receiver drafted this summer, those missing out on the second-year phenom might get a bargain if Kupp remains healthy. He's currently being drafted as WR23 with a third-round Average Draft Position on Underdog. |

Los Angeles Rams TE Tyler Higbee (knee) is expected to be on the Physically Unable to Perform list during training camp, and his availability for the start of the regular season will be determined by his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament.
Footballguys view: The Rams signed Colby Parkinson to a three-year, $22.5 million deal, and 2023 fifth round pick Davis Allen produced better numbers than expected when Higbee was out last year, so there's some possible fantasy value here if Higbee is a non-factor as long as one of the two emerges as the primary receiving tight end. Both are waiver wire watch list material going into training camp. |

Los Angeles Rams RB Blake Corum was a standout performer during offseason workouts, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: Kyren Williams is still the clear starter and seems to be over the foot issue that limited him in OTAs, but watch to see if Williams has any setbacks in camp. It sounds like the Rams offense wouldn't lose much if they have to turn to Corum. He's an excellent pick in the second half of best ball drafts. |
Los Angeles Rams WR Jordan Whittington has been 'doing a great job' learning the offense and applying that knowledge to the playing field, according to offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur.
Footballguys view: Whittington is a skilled and tough receiver, but fell to the sixth round because he doesn't have standout speed or quickness. He's similar to Ben Skowronek, who has been a useful player in the Rams offense at times, but not very productive or able to stand out in the passing game. |
Los Angeles Rams CB Tre'Davious White (Achilles) is making progress in his recovery but there is no official timetable for his return, according to head coach Sean McVay. The team hopes White will be ready for the start of the regular season.

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford is participating in the minicamp this week and is expected to report to training camp on time, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: Stafford has no guaranteed money on his deal after this year, so there has been some speculation that he would want more assurances for the future to play this year. Stafford appears to be ready to play out this season without new money. His elbow issues are behind him and he should help this be one of the best offenses for fantasy football again this year. |

Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp was never fully healthy last season, according to head coach Sean McVay. 'He looks strong,' McVay said. 'He looks sturdy. He's having fun. He's enjoying it.'
Footballguys view: Kupp hasn't played a full season since 2021, but when he did he was the no.1 receiver in fantasy football with almost 2,000 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns. We're not projecting him for those totals this season, but Kupp could get 85-90 catches for around 1,100 yards and 8-10 touchdowns with ease. That makes him a WR2 option in 2024. |

Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams (foot) participated in some drills during the voluntary workout Thursday, June 6.
Footballguys view: Williams is missing more practice time with a foot injury, something that has been a problem for him as a pro. Rams' HC Sean McVay said Williams would be out of action until training camp, but apparently, he's getting some work in during drills at OTAs. The Rams selected Michigan RB Blake Corum in the third round, and the rookie could push for a larger role and even battle Williams for the top spot on the depth chart. Stay tuned. |
Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford will be present for the mandatory minicamp next week even though he is seeking a new contract, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: Stafford wants a new deal, but he's not going to miss mandatory minicamp. After dealing with various injuries over the last couple of seasons, a healthy Stafford would mean even better things for the Rams' passing game. Stafford's entire 2024 salary is guaranteed at $31 million, but he currently has only $10 million in fully guaranteed compensation for 2025. |

Los Angeles Rams first-round draft choice DE Jared Verse (Florida State) reportedly signed a four-year contract worth $15.134 million - including a $7.826 million signing bonus - on Tuesday, May 28. The deal includes a fifth-year team option.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams (foot) is dealing with a foot injury and will not return to practice until training camp, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: Coach Sean McVay downplayed the issue. "He'll be ready to go for training camp," McVay said of Williams. "Nothing to be concerned about." Still, as Profootballtalk.com pointed out, Williams has a history of foot and ankle issues. He broke his right foot on June 1, 2022, in OTAs as a rookie and required surgery to repair the Jones fracture. He dealt with high-ankle sprains during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Williams has played 22 games and missed 12 since arrival. The Rams used a third-round draft pick on Michigan running back Blake Corum this spring. We'll be watching this situation closely as camp draws nearer. |
Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford participated in the voluntary workout Monday, May 20.
Footballguys view: Stafford's entire 2024 salary is guaranteed at $31 million, and coach Sean McVay previously said he was unsure if Stafford would report to OTAs, considering his desire for more guaranteed money beyond 2024, which would keep the Rams from cutting him after this season. He currently has only $10 million in fully guaranteed compensation for 2025. That Stafford showed up suggests a deal is in the works. While we rank Stafford as QB21, his presence is vital to the Rams passing components we're more interested in -- Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp. |

Mike Florio, from ProFootballTalk.com, reports Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford is looking for a new contract.
Footballguys view: With OTAs set to begin on Monday, many wonder whether Stafford will be there. He's been at voluntary workouts, but this contract issue has been reported before. Stafford is seeking an adjustment to his contract that would provide him with more guaranteed money beyond 2024, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. We'll see if this 'lingering offseason issue' comes to a close with more guaranteed money for Stafford or not. |

Los Angeles Rams S third-round draft choice S Kamren Kinchens (Miami, Fla.) and fifth-round draft choice DE Brennan Jackson (Washington State) signed four-year contracts on Thursday, May 16. Financial terms of the deals were not immediately disclosed.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams defensive passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant was named assistant head coach Thursday, May 16.
Footballguys view: At one point, Pleasant was a rising star in the coaching ranks and interviewing for defensive coordinator jobs after Dan Campbell hired him to coach defensive backs in 2021. Before that, Pleasant was the cornerbacks coach for the Rams under Sean McVay. The Lions fired him in 2022 as the pass defense was struggling, but since then, he has helped McVay keep the Rams pass defense sound during a transition period for the franchise. He could get head coach interest if the Rams overachieve on defense again this season. |
Los Angeles Rams third-round draft choice RB Blake Corum, sixth-round draft choice DT Tyler X. Davis, sixth-round draft choice PK Joshua Karty, sixth-round draft choice C Beaux Limmer, sixth-round draft choice WR Jordan Whittington and seventh-round draft choice OT KT Leveston signed four-year contracts with the Rams Monday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Coming off a productive career at Michigan, Corum is expected to complement Kyren Williams in Los Angeles. The question is whether the newcomer will become a limiting factor for Williams, who is RB8 on the Footballguys 2024 Draft Rankings. Williams finished last year as fantasy's RB7, but volume was the key to his success. At this point, Corum's possible impact is something to watch as the Rams enter training camp and the exhibition season. |

Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Link to storyFree-agent RB Boston Scott (Eagles) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams Tuesday, April 30, according to sources. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: The Rams have Kyren Williams as their lead back, and they selected Michigan RB Blake Corum in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft. Scott is a compact scat back who can make plays as a runner or receiver. Plus, he's got special teams value. |

Link to storyLos Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford is seeking a contract revision that would allot him more guaranteed money past the 2024 season.
Footballguys view: We'll see if the Rams oblige. Once thought to be on the verge of retirement, Stafford has another chapter left. In 2025, Stafford is on the books for $50.5 million with $47 million remaining in dead money. There's an out in his contract after that season, and we'll see where his health is at and if the Rams have other ideas. |
