Free-agent CB Jacobi Francis (Texans) signed an undisclosed deal with the Minnesota Vikings, according to sources Thursday, July 25.

Minnesota Vikings RB DeWayne McBride (undisclosed) passed his physical Wednesday, July 24, and has been activated from the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

Minnesota Vikings OT Christian Darrisaw agreed to terms on a new four-year contract with the Vikings worth as much as $113 million. The deal includes $77 million in guaranteed money.
Link to storyMinnesota Vikings QB Sam Darnold will receive a majority of the snaps with the first-team offense when training camp practices start, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell. O'Connell said QB J.J. McCarthy will also receive work with the starting offense.
Footballguys view: While Darnold will get the bulk of the work, McCarthy will also get first-team snaps, and O'Connell said he wants a "really competitive situation." Still, the nature of the split will mean that Darnold will be on the inside track to start against the Giants in Week 1. PFT's Josh Alper points out the Vikings have their bye after a Week 5 matchup with the Jets in London, and any season-opening decision at quarterback could be revisited at that point because of the extra time a new quarterback would have to prepare. |

Minnesota Vikings LB Andrew Van Ginkel (foot) will not start training camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list and appears to be on track to be at least a limited participant when practices start.

Minnesota Vikings CB NaJee Thompson (undisclosed) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 22. The team also placed RB DeWayne McBride (undisclosed) on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
Link to storyMinnesota Vikings TE T.J. Hockenson (knee) will start training camp on the PUP list but is 'well ahead of schedule,' according to head coach Kevin O'Connell on Monday, July 22.
Footballguys view: Hockenson tore his MCL and ACL in Week 15 last season, his first with the Vikings. "The significant injury that it was, we want to make sure to follow our plan when T.J. gets on the field and continues to do more and more throughout training camp," O'Connell said. "And hopefully, at some point when he's ready to go, we want to make sure everything is done the right way for T.J. because he's such a significant part of our organization." Hockenson had career highs in catches (95) and yards (960) before suffering that knee injury. Fantasy managers should be cautious and assume O'Connell's "at some point" timetable is vague for a reason. |

Minnesota Vikings LB Dallas Turner signed his rookie deal on Sunday, July 21. The contract is for four years and is worth a fully guaranteed $15.76 million. The deal also includes a signing bonus of $8.28 million.
Link to storyMinnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy is a longshot to be the starter at the beginning of the season, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN on Sunday, July 21. 'He is not the starter as of now, Sam Darnold is considered the heavy favorite. My sense is McCarthy would have to be absolutely all-world in the next six weeks to win this job,' Fowler said.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. McCarthy is a rookie quarterback we are excited about for multiple reasons. He's a strong leader who plays with a calm mind under pressure (to start with). However, he's going to take some time to get up to speed in the NFL. The Vikings can begin the season with Darnold as their starter, but eventually, we'll see McCarthy atop the depth chart. |
Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy signed his four-year rookie contract, according to sources Friday, July 19. The deal is worth $21.85 fully guaranteed and includes a $12.71 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option.
Footballguys view: We love McCarthy's landing spot. He's a calm quarterback and a natural leader. Pressure doesn't rattle him, and he'll run the offense true to design. Sam Darnold is there to be the starter while McCarthy gets up to speed in the NFL game. We'll see how quickly McCarthy can take over the job. |
Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson leads all receivers with 98.4 receiving yards per game and 29 games of 100-plus yards since entering the NFL in 2020.
Footballguys view: We haven't seen this type of instant impact very often in the NFL, although Randy Moss did something similar years ago for the Vikings. We'll see how JJ McCarthy develops as the franchise quarterback for the Vikings, but peppering Jefferson with passes early and often is always a good idea. |

Wide receiver Jordan Addison was arrested Friday near Los Angeles International Airport on suspicion of driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday night. According to a police report reviewed by ESPN, a West Los Angeles officer found a white Rolls Royce blocking a lane of I-105 westbound to Sepulveda Boulevard northbound. The driver, later identified as Addison, was asleep behind the wheel, according to the report. A DUI investigation led to Addison's arrest at 11:36 p.m. PT. He was released from custody Saturday at 1:36 a.m.
Footballguys view: "We are aware of Jordan Addison's arrest this past Friday and are currently gathering more information regarding the incident," the Vikings said in a statement. This is the second consecutive offseason Addison has encountered a legal issue on the road. In July 2023, he was cited for speeding and reckless driving by the Minnesota State Patrol for going 140 mph in a 55 mph zone. Vikings rookies report to training camp on July 21. Veterans report July 23. We'll have more on this as further details come to light. |
Minnesota Vikings CB Khyree Jackson has died in an automobile accident at the age of 24, according to his agent and former high school coach. He had been a fourth-round selection of the Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Link to storyFree-agent RB Cam Akers (Vikings) is expected to re-sign with the Minnesota Vikings if he passes his physical, according to The Pioneer Press' Charley Walters.
Footballguys view: Akers was traded to the Vikings in September last year and ran 38 times for 138 yards and a touchdown while catching 11 passes for 70 yards in six games before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in November. Akers also tore his Achilles in July 2021 and recovered in time to play for the Rams on their way to a Super Bowl win. Akers would join Aaron Jones, Ty Chandler, Kene Nwangwu, Myles Gaskin, and DeWayne McBride on the running back depth chart in Minnesota. |

Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy will 'definitely not' be the Week 1 starter, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: This makes sense is not an indictment of how McCarthy has looked so far in practices. McCarthy wasn't as central to his team's success as the other first round quarterbacks and probably needs seasoning the most of the six. Sam Darnold is a solid bridge quarterback, so it's possible we won't see McCarthy play until Minnesota is out of playoff contention. For best ball leagues, both are only very late round picks if you are desperate for a QB3. |
Minnesota Vikings WR Jordan Addison had 'as good of an offseason program as really you can ask for,' according to head coach Kevin O'Connell.'(He is) a guy that had a ton of success in Year 1. And really, from a standpoint of getting a little stronger, getting a little bit more comfortable playing through contact and still playing with that great burst and transition that he has, you saw some real growth there (this spring),' O'Connell said.
Footballguys view: Addison should be in line for more targets with no clear #3 wide receiver and T.J. Hockenson not a sure thing to be ready to begin the season after suffering an ACL tear late last season. The Vikings passing game could take a hit without Kirk Cousins, but Addison could still be better than a productive rookie year with more on his plate this season. |
Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy did not take any reps with the first-team offense during the club's mandatory minicamp. However, this is not a reflection on his performance but rather an indication that the Vikings plan to take a long-term, slow-and-steady approach to developing the 21-year-old rookie, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: The Vikings have a perfectly fine bridge starter in Sam Darnold, and the main knock on McCarthy was the need for more seasoning before taking on NFL defenses, so this makes a lot of sense. The good news for fantasy is that this was a productive passing game even with the likes of Joshua Dobbs and Nick Mullens in at quarterback last year, so Darnold should be able to support the values of Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. |
Updating a previous report, free-agent DT Jalen Redmond (Panthers) signed a one-year contract worth $795,000 with the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday, June 18.
Link to storyIn sum, J.J. McCarthy looked like a quarterback with the talent to be a top-10 pick but with the inexperience of a 21-year-old. In other words: Exactly what should have been expected.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert reported, at times during OTAs, the newcomer fit darts into small windows against aggressive coverage. On other occasions, McCarthy bounced passes to receivers with no defenders in the drill. The QB kept the appropriate perspective throughout and didn't let the up and (more importantly) down moments weigh on him. His work in training camp will determine whether McCarthy is ready to open the season as the starter or if the team will go with veteran Sam Darnold under center. |
Free-agent DT Jalen Redmond (Panthers) signed an undisclosed contract with the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday, June 18. WR Devron Harper was waived to make room for him on the roster.
Link to storyFree-agent DT Jalen Redmond (Panthers) agreed to terms with the Minnesota Vikings Monday, June 17, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyMinnesota Vikings WR Devron Harper was waived Monday, June 17.
Link to storyMinnesota Vikings QB Sam Darnold is the leading candidate for the starting quarterback job at this point, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell.
Footballguys view: All roads lead to JJ McCarthy at some point. Darnold is a veteran with plenty of starting experience, but as soon as McCarthy is ready he's likely to be the top quarterback. |

Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy had his 'most efficient day' of minicamp on Thursday, June 6, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: McCarthy had a bit of a rough start to minicamp, but had his best day yet on Thursday. The Vikings are bringing McCarthy along slowly, as he's learning new concepts and footwork with new teammates, so don't read anything into his struggles. His improvement day-to-day is more meaningful than his starting point. It doesn't sound like McCarthy is close to forcing a quarterback controversy yet. |
Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Darnold's 'consistency' stood out during the three days of OTAs, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: The Vikings are probably hoping that Darnold is good enough to keep first round pick JJ McCarthy off of the field until they are out of the playoff contention - if that even happens before late December. Darnold merely needs to be competent to do that, although a conservative approach - as opposed to Nick Mullens and Joshua Dobbs mindset last year - might not be best for the bottom line passing game production. |

The San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts reportedly expressed interest in trading for Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson before the 2024 NFL Draft. However, all of the clubs that contacted Minnesota were told that he was not being traded. Jefferson wound up agreeing to a contract extension with the Vikings Monday, June 3.
Footballguys view: There was a rumor floating around that the Vikings tried to trade up to #6 and take LSU (now Giants) WR Malik Nabers, which would have them precipitated the need to trade Jefferson, but this item contradicts that far-fetched possibility. The Vikings willingness to reset the wide receiver market with this contract also seems to go against the idea that they were open to trading Jefferson. |

Minnesota Vikings TE Nick Muse (undisclosed) and CB Khyree Jackson (illness) did not participate in practice Thursday, June 6.
Link to storyMinnesota Vikings WR Jalen Nailor (illness) has been sidelined for the first two days of the mandatory minicamp this week because of an illness.
Link to storyMinnesota Vikings WR N'Keal Harry will transition from wide receiver to tight end this summer, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell.

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson's four-year, $140 million deal has $88.7 million guaranteed at signing and a signing bonus of $36.9 million. Jefferson will account for cap hits of $15.3 million in 2025, $39.1 million in 2026, $43.3 million in 2027 and $47.3 million in 2028. The deal includes a void year in 2029 that costs $6 million.

Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson agreed to a four-year $140 million extension Monday, June 3. The deal includes $110 million guaranteed and makes him the highest-paid player outside of quarterbacks.
Footballguys view: Jefferson's historic contract comes after an equally historic four-year run in which he compiled 392 catches, 5,899 receiving yards, 30 touchdowns, and earned Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2022. As ESPN's Adam Schefter pointed out, Jefferson's average of 98.3 yards per game is the most in NFL history for any career span, and his average of 6.5 catches per game is the second-highest of any receiver in his first four seasons. Jefferson is WR3 on the Footballguys 2024 redraft rankings but remains WR1 on our Dynasty rankings. The short-term ranking (and his current WR4 Average Draft Position in Underdog best-ball drafts) make sense, with the Vikings deciding between rookie J.J. McCarthy and Sam Darnold. Remember, Jefferson posted a WR3 per-week scoring average down the stretch last season, working with Josh Dobbs, Jaren Hall, and Nick Mullens. |

Updating a previous report, free-agent OG Dalton Risner (Vikings) signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, May 31. Financial terms were not immediately disclosed. OL Matthew Cindric was waived to make room for him on the roster.

Link to storyThe Minnesota Vikings appear unlikely to add a third wide receiver via free agency to go alongside WRs Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert.
Footballguys view: That means a ton of passes are going to both - and TE TJ Hockenson when he's healthy. The Vikings will have guys like Brandon Powell, Jailen Nailor, and Trent Sherfield battle for the no.3 receiver spot on the depth chart. |
Justin Jefferson player page
Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson was absent for the start of voluntary OTAs as he negotiates a contract extension, according to sources Monday, May 20.
Footballguys view: Jefferson is looking for a new contract that will likely reset the market at the position. He also skipped the first two phases of OTAs as the two sides continue to discuss an extension. The star wideout, who became eligible for such a deal last year, took this same approach to voluntary sessions. Jefferson rejoined the team for their mandatory workouts last summer, and the Vikings have a mandatory minicamp in June. We'll follow this situation through resolution, but those drafting now shouldn't overthink it. Jefferson is our WR3 due more to questions at QB than contract concerns. |

Minnesota Vikings CB Andrew Booth Jr. and S Lewis Cine are candidates to be released before the start of the 2024 season, in the opinion of The Pioneer Press' Charley Walters.
Link to storyMinnesota Vikings TE T.J. Hockenson (knee) said he does not have a timetable for his return but has been making good progress in his recovery.
Footballguys view: We'll keep getting updates on Hockenson as the summer months get here. With a torn ACL and MCL in Week 16 last year, there's a good chance Hockenson will be on the PUP list to begin the 2024 regular season. The Vikings just signed Robert Tonyan to go with guys like Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt. |
T.J. Hockenson player page
Free-agent TE Robert Tonyan (Bears) signed an undisclosed contract with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, May 16. LB Donovan Manuel was waived to make room for him on the roster.
Footballguys view: With TJ Hockenson (ACL, MCL) coming back from a late-season knee injury, the Vikings needed more depth in the tight end room. Hockenson will compete with guys like Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt while Hockenson continues on his road to recovery. |
