Jets | Justin Fields more confident Sun Jun 15, 09:19 PM
New York Jets QB Justin Fields said he feels more comfortable taking command of the offense this year than he did last season in Pittsburgh when he was involved in a quarterback competition. 'It's definitely easier,' Fields said. 'I think last year was - it was kind of weird a little bit.'
Link to storyJustin Fields player page
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix appears to he more comfortable this offseason and seems to be doing things with more confidence, according to head coach Sean Payton. 'Less pause, less hesitation with the play call in the huddle,' Payton said. 'Less pause, less hesitation in the pocket. He's playing fast. Again, protecting the ball. He's hard to sack. He was hard to sack in college. You're seeing him play faster with more confidence.'
Footballguys view: Nix got better as the season went on last year, in both fantasy and NFL teams. The team added Evan Engram in the offseason in addition to Nix being more comfortable in Sean Payton's offense. Nix's arrow is pointing up from a place at the end of last season that already justifies his ADP as a low QB1. |
New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara will continue to be a significant part of the running and passing game in the new offensive scheme, according to head coach Kellen Moore.
Footballguys view: Kamara was a top five PPR back last year, but he is falling to the fourth round or later in drafts right now. There's not a lot of confidence that he will maintain his level of play and production from last year going into his age 30 season with Spencer Rattler or Tyler Shough at quarterback, but that creates enough of a discount to keep him in consideration at his current ADP. |

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said that the organization is 'absolutely, absolutely, absolutely' open to keeping all four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster (Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders) if each of them plays well enough.
Footballguys view: It's very difficult to project the Browns pass offense this year. Flacco is the favorite to open the season as the starter, and he would be good for Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman, David Njoku, and really the whole offense. If the team is out of contention or Flacco plays the way he did at times in Indianapolis last year, the Browns could look to a rookie or Pickett. If that rookie is Shedeur Sanders, the passing game could be ok, but the team preferred Gabriel in the draft. Good luck predicting how this will go. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is expected to be ready for the start of training camp after receiving a second opinion on his injured shoulder.
Footballguys view: That's the news Richardson wanted to hear, and that's why he went for a second opinion. The Colts have Daniel Jones there to start if Richardson is not healthy...again. Richardson has talent, but he's injured far too often and is in a make-it-or-break-it year. We'll see how much Richardson can do in training camp and the preseason. |

Cleveland Browns QBs Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders each received plenty of touches during the team's recent minicamp and all performed well in various situations, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: Ah yes, the cluster you-know-what continues in Cleveland at the quarterback position. They all have different skill sets, but we think this competition could come down to Flacco versus Sanders. Flacco has the experience, but Sanders might be the best pure passer of the bunch. Forget that Sanders was a fifth-round pick, as the talent is there for him to at least get a chance as a starter in the NFL. The Browns might decide to give Sanders the job if he continues to impress in training camp and the preseason. However, they could always roll with one of the other three because, ya know, Cleveland. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones has performed well during the mandatory minicamp this week and has picked up the offense very well, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Footballguys view: Don't scoff at the possibility of Jones having fantasy value this year. He was QB10 a few years back with the Giants on the strength of his running ability, and he'll have a lot better receivers than he had back then. Jones might have also benefitted from a few months to learn from QB guru Kevin O'Connell when he was with the Vikings. |

Minnesota Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy (knee) told reporters on Thursday, June 12, that he received full clearance to practice on his surgically repaired knee from the team's medical staff right before the start of training camp. McCarthy also added that his knee feels 'stronger than ever.'
Footballguys view: This will be one of the most important storylines to watch in camp and the preseason. McCarthy and the Vikings offense has a wide range of outcomes, hinging on how ready the second year player is ready to pilot the offense after missing almost all of 2024. He was reportedly on the verge of pushing Sam Darnold to start as a rookie before suffering the season-ending knee injury, so we should expect the more optimistic side of the outlook, but we'll be watching the reports out of camp closely. |
Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders took a series of snaps with the second-team offense during 11-on-11 drills this week and continued a strong spring. He threw a short touchdown in red-zone drills. On the play, he manipulated multiple linebackers by moving his eyes to his left before returning to his right and finding an open window to drive a pass to TE Brenden Bates in the end zone.
Footballguys view: We're trying to not get too excited about minicamp work, but it's exciting to think of what Sanders can do at the pro level. Sanders was a fifth-round pick, but it's not outlandish to think he's the best quarterback on the Browns roster. He's got a lot to prove, and Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel are there to compete for the starting job. It's a bit of a mess (understatement of the year), but Sanders is shining with his opportunities. Stay tuned. |
San Francisco 49ers QB Kurtis Rourke (knee) is not expected to be ready for the start of training camp, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Link to storyNew York Jets QB Justin Fields said he hopes to work out with the wide receivers and tight ends on the roster before the start of training camp.
Footballguys view: While two of his Jets teammates, wide receiver Garrett Wilson and tight end Jeremy Ruckert, played with Fields at Ohio State. Still, the more work all the receiving assets can get with Fields, the better -- for fantasy investors and Fields. As ESPN's Dan Graziano noted, the $10 million in guaranteed money on his contract for 2026 won't stand in the way of the team drafting or acquiring someone it sees as a better option next spring if Fields doesn't play well enough to convince it otherwise. |

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa said he has focused on getting the ball out quicker this offseason. Tagovailoa said he tried to run people over last season in order to prove his toughness, but he understands his availability is key.
Footballguys view: Tagovailoa missed six starts last season. That brings his total to 15 games missed due to injury in his five-year NFL career, with 2023 remaining as the only season he started every game. The Dolphins' record in the 10 games that Tagovailoa has missed because of injury the past three seasons is 3-7, so he understands the importance of staying in the lineup. For our purposes, Tua being under center offers the best chance for the Dolphins we're invested in -- De'Von Achane, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Jonnu Smith -- to return value. So it matters to us, too. |

Free-agent QB Desmond Ridder (Raiders) took part in minicamp practice with the Indianapolis Colts on a tryout basis on Tuesday, June 10.
Link to storyJacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence (arm), who was spotted wearing a throwing sleeve at the start of mandatory minicamp, is experiencing 'general soreness,' according to head coach Liam Coen.
Footballguys view: Lawrence went through the entire practice, throwing the ball during the session, but the sleeve raised questions from the media in attendance. "We threw a lot of balls last week," Coen explained. "He feels good. He said it wasn't really an issue . . . I think it was more just maintenance than anything that was really bothering him." Lawrence's 2024 season ended because of left shoulder surgery, but it doesn't appear that the current issue with his throwing arm is a risk to put him back on the sideline. We'll follow up as needed. |

Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins reported for mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 10, according to The Insiders. 'We're moving forward and it's about how we as a team and as a quarterback room can be the best we can be in 2025,' Cousins said.
Footballguys view: While Atlanta has turned the page to second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr., the club is set to keep Cousins as a backup for 2025. Cousins would like to be a starter, but absent an injury, it appears starting slots for the coming season have been filled. Cousins will make $27.5 million in base salary for the 2025 season on the four-year contract he signed as a free agent last offseason. Though he had attended some of the Falcons' voluntary workouts, it's unclear what level of participation Cousins will have with the club this week. |

Updating an ongoing story, Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) remains without a timeline to return after visiting Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the surgeon who operated on Richardson's AC joint last year, in Los Angeles for a checkup, according to head coach Shane Steichen.
Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com reminded readers, Richardson had surgery to repair the AC joint in his right shoulder after suffering an injury during his rookie season. Steichen noted last week that Richardson had reported soreness in the throwing shoulder during the offseason program. Richardson is competing with Daniel Jones to be the Colts' starter to open the season. While it seems likely Richardson will return at some point during training camp, Jones will benefit from the opportunity to begin separating himself in the battle between the two former first-round picks. |

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud (shoulder) is throwing at minicamp Tuesday, June 10.
Footballguys view: Stroud was limited in recent OTA sessions due to a tight pectoral muscle, an issue that was characterized as "relatively minor" last week. Stoud throwing during today's session suggests that's the case. Stroud is going as QB16 in Round 10 in early best ball drafts. While his Footballguys QB20 projection isn't as optimistic, that price might be appealing to those taking a shot on a QB2 who delivered QB1 numbers just two years ago. |

Tennessee Titans QB Will Levis should not be 'count[ed] out' for the starting job, according to ESPN's Turron Davenport, who noted comments made by head coach Brian Callahan that there'd be a competition during minicamp and training camp.
Footballguys view: Titans coach Brian Callahan said there will be a competition during minicamp and training camp. Both quarterbacks took turns starting in 7-on-7s and team periods during OTAs. Even so, the expectation is rookie Cam Ward, the first pick overall in April's NFL Draft, will be the Week 1 starter. Defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson is already impressed with Ward's vision and ability to find the open receiver. That's an early sign of progress. But the best way to prepare Ward is to increase reps, especially with the first team. We'll be watching for that in training camp. |
Will Levis player page
Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones has an 'ideal opportunity' to show the team he can be the starting quarterback during this week's mandatory minicamp, in the opinion of ESPN's Stephen Holder, who notes it 'offers a chance to build some continuity with his receivers and offensive linemen in full-squad workouts.' Jones is set to compete with QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder), who will miss the entire camp due to a shoulder injury, for the starting job, but Jones should be in line to get most, if not all, of the first-team reps here.
Footballguys view: The Colts wanted a quarterback competition this offseason, but Richardson's aggravated shoulder injury likely ended hopes of that at minicamp. That injury has already given Jones an edge in the QB battle. This week offers a chance to build some continuity with his receivers and offensive linemen in full-squad workouts, as Jones won't be sharing first-team snaps as planned. |

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson was not present for the voluntary workout Monday, June 9.
Link to storyLamar Jackson player page
Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins is expected to show up for mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, June 10. Cousins attended team workouts in April but was not present for voluntary OTAs in May.
Footballguys view: Cousins signed a four-year deal with Atlanta last March, but the Falcons later used a first-round pick on Michael Penix Jr., and Penix replaced Cousins as the team's starter during the 2024 season. Cousins is guaranteed $27.5 million in salary this season, and the Falcons have said that they are comfortable keeping him on the roster as a backup to Penix. As Profootballtalk.com suggests, Cousins has been less enthusiastic about the prospect of staying with the team, but no trade has materialized, and moving him may take an injury somewhere else at some point in the summer or fall. |
Kirk Cousins player page
Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson participated in only one of the voluntary workouts this offseason, but head coach John Harbaugh said Jackson looked good in that workout and is not bothered by the absences.
Footballguys view: Given the voluntary nature of the workouts, there's not much Harbaugh and the Ravens can say -- at least nothing they didn't account for with his last contract. Jackson's 2023 deal includes separate $750,000 workout bonuses in 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027. To get the money, he has to show up for at least 80 percent of the workouts. Like he has this year, Jackson also passed on that bonus last year. Nonetheless, he finished as QB1 overall with an average of 25.1 points per game. So, nobody should get too worked up about this year's absences. |

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye has done a good job picking up the offense and has shown solid development this offseason, according to offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. 'He's doing really well. He's very smart. Works really hard,' McDaniels said. 'He's doing a really good job of digesting the information, processing the corrections when there is a correction to be made, and going out there with a great attitude and mindset the next day.'
Footballguys view: McDaniels offense is going to be challenging, but it should unlock more of Maye's value than Alex Van Pelt's did last year. The team also added TreVeyon Henderson and Kyle Williams in the draft and Stefon Diggs in free agency to bolster the passing game, and drafted Will Campbell at #4 to improve the line. Maye already had fantasy value in a poor offense, he could be one of the breakout quarterbacks of the year in fantasy league with better surroundings. |
Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward likely will open the 2025 regular season as the starting quarterback, in the opinion of TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt.
Footballguys view: Zero surprise here. Ward was selected as the no.1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and he's got the skill set to be a franchise quarterback one day. Now, Ward has work to do but the tools are there. Ward has a big arm, and he can make throws from different arm angles. He also can take off to run and be a threat to flip the field as a runner. Ward has a big test in Week 1 as the Titans take on what could be the best defense in the league; the Denver Broncos. Welcome to the NFL! |
Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff said offensive coordinator John Morton is keeping some things that the offensive has done in the past but is also adding some new things to the offensive scheme.
Footballguys view: Taking over for new Bears HC Ben Johnson, Morton said the team's offense will remain "predicated" on Goff. Morton has only called plays one season in the NFL (2017, Jets) and was fired after that. Goff has been incredibly productive under Johnson, so Morton had better keep his foot on the gas in 2025. New wrinkles are great, but this offense is a sports car with a ton of expectations. |

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Jets) is officially signing his one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday, June 7.
Footballguys view: The one-year, $13.65 million deal includes $10 million in guaranteed money and $5.85 million in playing time and team performance incentives. That brings the potential total value to $19.5 million. Rodgers and the Steelers were flirting with each other the entire offseason. Now, the deal is done and Rodgers will be there for mandatory minicamp. In Arthur Smith's run-heavy, play-action system Rodgers should be able to be a solid starter for the Steelers as they push for the postseason. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is dealing with merely soreness and inflammation after imaging tests revealed that his shoulder is structurally sound, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: This is a small consolation. If Richardson isn't 100% to begin camp, or if the shoulder soreness affects his practice performance, he's almost sure to lose out to Daniel Jones. Richardson's value is as low as it has ever been in redraft and dynasty leagues. |
Anthony Richardson Sr. player page
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence has shown drastically improved footwork during offseason workouts, according to head coach Liam Coen.
Footballguys view: Lawrence has a chance to be the breakout quarterback of 2025 under Coen's tutelage. Coen played a large part in Will Levis's draft stock and Baker Mayfield's career revival, and the team has been aggressive about improving the wide receiver room this offseason. He should be a target if you wait on quarterback or as a QB2 in superflex leagues. |
Trevor Lawrence player page
New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart worked with the second-team offense Thursday, June 5, after spending the majority of the time with the third-team previously.
Footballguys view: Dart is unlikely to start Week 1, but this is a sign that he could take over earlier than expected if the season goes south, and perhaps leapfrog Jameis Winston. Russell Wilson - who recently said the team drafting Dart "doesn't change anything at all" for him - has been getting most of the first-team reps, but he faded quickly after a hot start with the Steelers last year. |
Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is not expected to need to undergo surgery on his injured shoulder.
Footballguys view: Good news for Richardson here....well, as much as it can be. The Colts are going to be cautious with the former first-round quarterback as he recovers from this latest injury. Daniel Jones was there to compete with Richardson for the starting job, but now he may just have that spot. |
Anthony Richardson Sr. player page
Cleveland Browns QBs Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are all believed to be candidates for the starting quarterback job, and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees said he could see any of the four to win the job at this point.
Footballguys view: It seems like every day we get quarterback updates from OTAs. This is a competition that should last through all of training camp and the preseason. Flacco has the experience and could be considered a front-runner for the job, but Sanders might be the best of the bunch. |
Joe Flacco player page
Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has started preliminary talks with the Ravens about a possible contract extension, according to general manager Eric DeCosta.
Footballguys view: Jackson is under contract through 2027, as he signed a five-year, $260 million contract with the Ravens in 2023. There is no rush to get this deal done, but the quarterback market is crazy so perhaps the sooner the better for the Ravens. |

Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Jets) reportedly informed the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, June 5, that he intends to sign the contract with the team and attend minicamp next week, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Finally! According to reports, the contract terms have been in place for months. Rodgers is expected to play for around $20 million this year (he's said as much publicly). While no longer the elite gunslinger he used to be, Rodgers should be able to operate the Arthur Smith offense precisely and efficiently. |

Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) aggravated the right AC joint in his shoulder recently, according to head coach Shane Steichen. Per Steichen, the team hopes Richardson can return to practice 'at some point' during training camp.
Footballguys view: Daniel Jones is there to compete for the starting job with Richardson. If Richardson is out, then Jones gets a clear advantage. Richardson has a ton of talent, but he's as oft-injured as they get. He needs to get healthy, stay healthy, and win the job in training camp or the Colts just roll with Jones as their starter. |

Cleveland Browns third-round draft choice QB Dillon Gabriel signed a four-year contract with the Browns Wednesday, June 4. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyNew Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr was placed on the Reserve/Retired list Tuesday, June 3.
Footballguys view: The NFL reserve/retired list is used for players who have officially retired from the league but still have a contract with a team. When a player retires and is placed on this list, the team's contract with them is tolled, meaning the contract remains in place, and the team retains the player's rights if they choose to unretire. As of now, that isn't in the cards for Carr. We'll see if he's in that same place next year. |
Derek Carr player page
Cleveland Browns QB Kenny Pickett received the first snaps with the starting offense during team drills Wednesday, June 4.
Footballguys view: The Browns brought back 2023 hero Joe Flacco and drafted two young quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. However, Pickett was the first man up as the team took the field. Still, as USA Today suggests, it's far too early to give any of this credence. Training camp does not even start for another month and a half. That said, the Athletic's Zac Jackson recently advised readers there's "almost no scenario" in which either rookie would win the starting job in the offseason. The early expectation is Joe Flacco will open the season as the starter. |
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love rested for several weeks following the team's elimination from the playoffs to heal from knee, groin, and elbow injuries suffered during the 2024 season, pausing both working out and throwing the ball. He's feeling 'good' now and has been a full participant in the team's organized team activities.
Footballguys view: For what it's worth, Love looked sharp in this week's OTA sessions. He completed six of seven pass attempts for 75 yards and a touchdown during Tuesday's two-minute drill. He threw a 30-yard touchdown to Jayden Reed before completing a two-point conversion to Romeo Doubs for the "win." Because defenses tend to dominate in early practices as the offense works on timing and execution, Tuesday's effort was viewed as a positive sign for the offense. Still, Green Bay is a run-heavy offense, and Love doesn't have much rushing equity. He opens up as QB18 on the Footballguys Projections. |

Undrafted free-agent TE Caden Prieskorn (Ole Miss) signed a one-year contract with the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, June 3. TE Cole Fotheringham (undisclosed) was waived with an injury designation to make room for him on the roster.
Link to storyHouston Texans QB C.J. Stroud (shoulder) has taken limited reps during the team's offseason practices, but head coach DeMeco Ryans noted on Tuesday, June 3, that Stroud is just experiencing 'general soreness' in his shoulder and the team is taking 'extra precaution' with him.
Footballguys view: Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, a well-connected Houston beat writer, recently confirmed the issue was a tight pectoral muscle that is considered "relatively minor." Meanwhile, we'll remind you that few quarterbacks fell further from meeting expectations than Stroud, who was drafted as QB6 last summer before finishing the regular season as QB18. This year, Stroud is going as QB16 in Round 10 in early best ball drafts. That's a bit off his QB20 Footballguys Projection, but it's a reasonable price for bargain hunters willing to bet minimal draft capital on a QB2 who delivered QB1 numbers just two years ago. |
C.J. Stroud player page
Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward has progressed already in camp, according to head coach Brian Callahan, who said he's pleased with Ward's progress. Ward has progressed in understanding throws he made in college won't necessarily be available to make in the NFL, and Callahan said he's picking up the mental part quickly.
Footballguys view: This isn't a surprise after a report by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Monday indicated coaches have been impressed with Ward's work ethic. Fowler added that while Ward has been sharing snaps with QB Will Levis, the rookie will start receiving more work with the first-team offense in advance of training camp. While there's something to be said for players with locked-in roles, Ward, who opens as QB26 on the Footballguys redraft projections, has much to prove at a position with loads of quality depth. |
Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward has been sharing snaps with QB Will Levis but will start receiving more work with the first-team offense as the offseason practices go on, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: "The Titans coaches have been really impressed with his work ethic so far." Fowler said of Ward, "They knew he was a hard worker coming in, but I was told they had to kick him out of the offices at times." It makes sense. As USA Today suggested, "Ward didn't go from zero-star recruit to the first overall pick in the NFL draft by resting on his laurels." It's encouraging. But it doesn't change the fact that Ward's fantasy value is limited in redraft formats. |
Cleveland Browns third-round draft choice QB Dillon Gabriel 'does not look like an NFL quarterback,' according to The Athletic's Zac Jackson.'Dillon Gabriel does not look like an NFL quarterback to me. Like zero percent. ... I just don't think any other team was taking him in the top-100 or even the top-150. If I am wrong and the Cleveland Browns have their quarterback, that would be great. One of these years, I would love to cover a normal franchise and a rookie quarterback that sticks around for more than 6-to-18 months. But if it's Dillon Gabriel, I will be beyond shocked,' Jackson told Zach Gelb of the Infinity Sports Network.
Footballguys view: As Footballguy Alfredo Brown wrote in the Footballguys Rookie Draft Guide 3.0, "Gabriel landing at the tail end of Day 2 was one of the biggest surprises of the draft." Brown added it's even more shocking considering the selection of Shedeur Sanders less than 50 picks later. At this point, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett are the early favorites to win the Week 1 starting job. |
Free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers (Jets) hasn't committed to the Pittsburgh Steelers, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero said on The Rich Eisen Show. 'I have been told that he has not affirmatively told the Steelers that he's coming. Certainly, all indications -- if you just look at it logically -- are that he's coming, based on his comments about, 'Hey, there's a team that plays in Chicago I might play for; I'm not playing in New Orleans,'' Pelissero remarked. 'He took one visit [with the Steelers]. He's been throwing with DK Metcalf. He talks all the time with Mike Tomlin. I know he's talked with Arthur Smith. So, there are all these signs that he's coming, but he has not affirmatively said, 'Hey, June 9 -- book me a ticket, I'm coming in and I'm going to join this team.''
Footballguys view: Late last month, Steelers owner Art Rooney II said the team would wait "a little while longer." Pittsburgh's OTAs run through June 5. A three-day mandatory minicamp on June 10 follows that and ends the team's offseason sessions. So, Rooney and the Steelers can't wait much longer if they want to see Rodgers work with the team ahead of training camp. Rodgers being the team's quarterback this fall is still the most likely outcome. But the window for resolution is closing. Without Rodgers, the quarterbacks will be Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and rookie Will Howard. |

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud (pectoral) has not been throwing recently because of a tight pectoral muscle, but the injury is believed to be minor, according to sources.
Footballguys view: This is not a concern in early June, but let's put a pin in this story and come back to it if the problem persists in training camp. Texans OC Nick Caley said he had "no concerns whatsoever" about Stroud not throwing at voluntary workouts this week. With the utmost trust from Caley and his teammates in 2025, Stroud is perhaps set for a breakout season. |

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Brown rookie QBs Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are battling for the reserve pecking order spots, according to The Athletic's Zac Jackson, who added there's 'almost no scenario' in which either would win the starting job in the offseason. As previous reported, QB Joe Flacco is expected to open the season as the starter.
Footballguys view: The Browns quarterback situation is a mess right now...and likely for the whole 2025 season. Joe Flacco is there as the likely starter Week 1, but the former elite veteran is not the player he used to be and has a limited ceiling. Kenny Pickett, a former first-round pick, wants to prove himself now on his third team in three years. Gabriel is small and lacks tools as a passer, and Sanders has the tools but is a late-round pick who won't have many opportunities early on in this competition. Sanders may be the best quarterback on the roster, but there's a chance he doesn't make the 53-man roster...unless the Browns carry four quarterbacks...and -oh yeah- Deshaun Watson. |
New York Giants first-round draft choice Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss) signed his four-year rookie contract worth $17 million on Friday, May 30.
Footballguys view: The Giants moved back into the first round to select Dart. The rookie is seen as the quarterback of the future, but he might not see the field in 2025. The Giants have Russell Wilson in line to be their starter in Week 1. If/when things fall apart with Wilson, the team could turn the reins over to Dart. He's got a strong arm and the athleticism to keep plays alive with his feet while keeping his eyes downfield. |
Indianapolis Colts QBs Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are engaging in an 'open competition' where both players will split reps during organized team activities, according to head coach Shane Steichen.'We're breaking down the reps. They are both getting one reps. They're both getting two reps. I think through OTAs, we've got nine good practices. They'll both get about 170 reps a piece with those guys, with the ones and twos, and we'll flip-flop them. You guys were out there today. You saw how it worked, and that's how it's going to go. ... We have like first- (and) second-down day, then we have a third-down day. So we don't want one guy getting all the third-down reps with the ones. So, we're going to flip it that way, and then we go to a red zone day. It's the same reason,' Steichen said.
Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Colts have been saying for some time that both quarterbacks are going to have a chance at the starting job. Richardson is their former first-round pick, and he still has incredible upside because of his physical tools. Jones, a former first-round pick of the Giants, has athleticism too and more starting experience. We'll see this battle shake out in training camp. |
