Colts | Parris Campbell made a statement in spring Mon Jun 27, 03:27 PM
Indianapolis Colts WR Parris Campbell spent 'a good portion' of offseason workouts working with the first unit, according to ESPN.com's Mike Wells.
Footballguys view: The regular drumbeat this offseason with the Colts is that Campbell has been impressing. We get it, Campbell has plenty of speed and can fly by defenders. Injuries and inconsistencies have kept him from playing up to his potential in the pros. With WR Michael Pittman taking away the attention of the defense, Campbell could set career-best numbers in 2022. As the team's primary slot receiver, Campbell has fantasy value but is currently going undrafted. Keep him on your waiver wire speed dial or take Campbell as a late-round flier in deeper leagues. |

Free-agent DE Ifeadi Odenigbo (Browns) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, June 13.
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts LB Darius Leonard's back surgery could be connected to his lingering ankle and calf issues from 2021, per Zak Keefer of The Athletic. Doctors believe Leonard's ankle injury lingered because of a calf issue, which was thought to be a result of a nerve in his back. Keefer also writes Leonard could be back at or near the start of training camp.

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts C Ryan Kelly won't be moving to right guard despite seeing time there in practice recently. 'No, there is really no plan for that at this point. I mean it's just more cross-training everybody. You've got to cross-train everybody,' head coach Frank Reich said on Thursday, June 9.
Link to storyFree-agent DE Bryan Cox Jr. (Bills) and OT Jason Spriggs (Falcons) signed undisclosed deals with the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced Friday, June 10. DE Cullen Wick also was waived in a corresponding move.

Free-agent DT Caeveon Patton signed an undisclosed contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, June 9. The Colts also released LB Jordan Glasgow and DT McKinley Williams III.

Free-agent LB Derick Roberson (Titans) and DE Bryan Cox Jr. (Bills) are participating in the Indianapolis Colts mandatory minicamp this week on a tryout basis. Undrafted free-agent WR Tyson Morris (Arkansas), S Cedrick Cunningham (Army) and DT Caeveon Patton (Texas State) are also trying out for the Colts.

Indianapolis Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. and QB Matt Ryan are 'in sync' in practice, The Athletic's Zak Keefer noted on Wednesday, June 8. 'Pittman has been really good the past few days. Him and Ryan are in sync. Impressive grab over the middle in heavy traffic today,' Keefer wrote.
Footballguys view: This is one of those offseason 'drumbeats' you want to pay attention to. There's offseason fluff and then there are developing stories that can benefit you in your fantasy drafts. Pittman is already getting drafted as a mid-range WR2 in most formats, but his talent coupled with a strong connection with Ryan could push him into top-10 range. Let's see how they look in the preseason and how many more of these 'drumbeats' we hear in training camp. |
Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (undisclosed) is not participating at mandatory minicamp for a second straight day on Wednesday, June 8, due to an undisclosed injury.
Footballguys view: It's the offseason, so injury designations are not a thing. We're not sure what this undisclosed injury is but it is nothing to be concerned about at this time. Taylor is going to carry perhaps the largest load of any running back in the NFL this season, and he doesn't need to push it during minicamp. We'll see what he looks like when training camp gets here. |

Indianapolis Colts CB Kenny Moore II (undisclosed) did not work out at mandatory minicamp on Wednesday, June 8, due to an undisclosed injury.

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Tuesday, June 7, and was held out because of precautionary reasons.
Footballguys view: Taylor is going to be the centerpiece of the Colts offense, and they have designs of making a Super Bowl run in 2022. That means he doesn't need a ton of work in the offseason. The Colts will mix him into action during training camp but likely limit his reps in the preseason. |

Indianapolis Colts LB Darius Leonard (back) is expected to undergo back surgery soon, according to ESPN.com's Mike Wells. Per Wells, 'the plan' is for Leonard to be back in time for training camp.

Indianapolis Colts CB Kenny Moore II, who is seeking a new contract, is taking his physical Monday, June 6, before mandatory minicamp.
Footballguys view: Moore, like so many others, has realized that he has little to no bargaining power that can be realized by staying away from the team under the new CBA. He is a cornerstone of a pass defense that added Stephon Gilmore in the offseason. |

Indianapolis Colts S Julian Blackmon (Achilles) could be a full-go at training camp, head coach Frank Reich revealed on Friday, June 3. 'I don't think it's a stretch to say that,' Reich said. Blackmon practiced for the first time on Wednesday, June 1, since tearing his Achilles' tendon last season.

The Indianapolis Colts are 'definitely pushing' WR Alec Pierce in the hopes he can secure a significant role in 2022. 'He's done a good job so he's going to have to compete for every snap, right? It's a very competitive group,' head coach Frank Reich said. 'But yeah, we're definitely pushing him. We're definitely pushing him and want him to compete to get in the mix and get on the field.'
Footballguys view: Pierce can move the chains regularly, and it should not take him long to become a favorite target of QB Matt Ryan. He is not afraid to go over the middle and has what scouts call 'my ball' mentality. We'll be watching the rookie closely in dynasty formats. |
Indianapolis Colts LB Darius Leonard (ankle) likely will not need another surgery on his ankle, according to head coach Frank Reich. Leonard is being held out of voluntary workouts as a precaution.

Indianapolis Colts director of college scouting Morocco Brown is expected to be promoted to chief personnel executive, according to a source.
Link to storyThe Indianapolis Colts have 'no intention' of giving CB Kenny Moore II a new contract, according to The Athletic's Stephen Holder. The Colts believe Moore, who is currently sitting out voluntary organized team activities because he's unhappy with his contract, signed a fair deal in 2019 and the team typically doesn't renegotiate contracts, per a source.

Indianapolis Colts LB Darius Leonard (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, May 25, and head coach Frank Reich said he was a little surprised that Leonard did not participate.

Zak Keefer, from The Athletic, reports Indianapolis Colts HC Frank Reich said "If I was a fantasy owner, I'd consider drafting Nyheim (Hines)."
Footballguys view: Okay coach, we'll help spread the message for you. Fantasy GMs know that Hines is a special player in space as a runner or receiver. He could catch 50 passes this year as the change-of-pace back behind starter Jonathan Taylor. That means he's a flex option in PPR formats. |

Indianapolis Colts C Alex Mollette was waived Tuesday, May 24.
Link to storyFree-agent RB Ty'Son Williams (Ravens) signed a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced Tuesday, May 24. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: The Colts have been looking for running back talent behind Jonathan Taylor. They signed Phillip Lindsay last week, and now they decide to pick up Williams. He flashed a bit last year with the Ravens and could produce if given a larger role due to injuries in the backfield - if he gets better at pass protection. |
Ty'Son Williams player page
Indianapolis Colts QB James Morgan was released Monday, May 23.
Footballguys view: Morgan has bounced around to a couple of different teams so far in his pro career. He's got a rocket arm - an absolute cannon - so that could get him a look as a camp arm with another team. |
James Morgan player page
Free-agent QB Nick Foles agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, May 23, per source. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: He played under Colts HC Frank Reich when the two won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles. Foles asked for his release earlier this month, and many speculated that he would end up with the Colts. It's a good spot for him to be as veteran insurance behind new starter Matt Ryan. |

Indianapolis Colts WR Alec Pierce is expected to be a big-play threat for the passing attack as a rookie, according to general manager Chris Ballard. 'The one thing you notice about Pierce is he gets behind people,' Ballard said. 'I mean, this kid can really, really run and really adjust to the football.'
Footballguys view: Stretching the field is what Pierce did in college, and it's wise for the Colts to use him in the same way. Pierce has a nice size/speed combination and quickly accelerates to stack cornerbacks in coverage. He tracks the ball nicely over his shoulders and has 'late hands' to not tip off the pass is incoming. |
Free-agent QB Nick Foles (Bears) is receiving interest from the Indianapolis Colts, but the two sides have not reached an agreement at this time, according to sources.
Footballguys view: This report has been out there for quite some time. In fact, when Foles asked for his release from the Bears it was the Colts - and his previous working relationship with Colts HC Frank Reich - who jumped to the top of the landing spots. We'll see if something gets done in the near future, but we expect Foles to have a new team before the start of training camp. |

Third-round draft choice OT Bernhard Raimann (Central Michigan) signed a four-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Friday, May 20. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Link to storyThird-round draft choice TE Jelani Woods (Virginia) signed a four-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Friday, May 20. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: Woods is a huge prospect at the tight end position, so he can at least be a red zone threat in the pros if not more. He's got a huge wingspan and as a former quarterback he knows how to sit down in the soft spot of a zone. Woods begins his pro career as a reserve with the Colts behind starting TE Mo Alie-Cox. We'll keep track of him in dynasty formats because the upside is there for him to be a weapon in the NFL someday. |
Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts second-round draft pick WR Alec Pierce signed a four-year contract worth $6.601 million on Tuesday, May 16. The deal includes a $1.98 million signing bonus.
Footballguys view: Pierce has a nice size/speed combination and can be a quarterback's best friend. He's physical at the point of the catch and can rip away passes from smaller defenders. We'll see how the rookie fits in opposite of Michael Pittman with the Colts. |
Indianapolis Colts RB Max Borghi was waived Wednesday, May 18.
Footballguys view: The Colts added Phillip Lindsay in free agency this week, so Borghi could be let go. Undrafted out of Washington State, Borghi has receiving ability and can make defenders miss in the open field. Some team should add him as a camp body and potential practice squad player. |
Indianapolis Colts WR Parris Campbell has been fully participating in team drills during organized team activities, he revealed on Wednesday, May 18. Campbell also noted that this is his first offseason in the NFL in which he is fully healthy.
Footballguys view: Campbell will battle with second round pick Alec Pierce to start opposite Michael Pittman. He has been a training camp standout in previous years, but hasn't been able to stay on the field. |

Free-agent RB Phillip Lindsay (Dolphins) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, May 17.
Footballguys view: It's a good landing spot for Lindsay who has bounced around a bit since leaving the Broncos. He was a back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher his first two seasons in Denver, but a timeshare with Melvin Gordon in 2020 led to lower production. Lindsay is not a great receiver out of the backfield, and he doesn't play special teams. However, he is a good runner inside with vision and quickness as the hallmarks of his game. He will compete for a spot on the depth chart behind Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines. |
Phillip Lindsay player page
Indianapolis Colts second-round draft choice WR Alec Pierce signed a four-year contract with the Colts Monday, May 16. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Pierce has a good size/speed combination and is known as a competitive player who will fight for passes in the air. He's best used as a downfield receiver because of his ball-tracking ability and body control. The Colts will use Pierce as their no.2 receiver opposite of Michael Pittman in 2022. |
Indianapolis Colts OT Bernhard Raimann will compete for the left tackle job in training camp, but general manager Chris Ballard also said he could get a look at right guard if he doesn't win the aforementioned job. 'He'll begin camp behind incumbent Matt Pryor, but it'll be an open competition -- look for newly signed veteran Dennis Kelly to get looks there, as well,' Zak Keefer of The Athletic wrote. 'If Raimann doesn't win the left tackle job, Ballard said the team could try him at right guard.'
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich isn't ruling out a reunion with free-agent QB Nick Foles (Bears) when asked about it on Friday, May 13. 'We're always looking at who makes this team better, at every position. Who are the available veterans? Who can we still sign?' Reich said. '[General manager] Chris [Ballard] is very methodical about that process. We're not in a rush. There is a timing to the way things go, and the way the roster is put together, that is very intentional.'
Footballguys view: That move would make sense for the Colts since they have designs of making a deep postseason run. Matt Ryan is the starter, but behind him they lack experience with guys like Sam Ehlinger and James Morgan. Adding a veteran like Foles, who was released by the Bears at his request in the beginning of May, would be a wise move to give them insurance in the event Ryan gets banged up. |

Indianapolis Colts WR Alec Pierce (undisclosed) left rookie minicamp practice early on Friday, May 13, with an undisclosed injury. 'Yeah, I think he's fine,' head coach Frank Reich said of Pierce. 'I mean, I really didn't check into it that deeply. I think just a little bit of dehydration, and just wanting to play it safe.'
Footballguys view: This sounds like it's nothing but we'll see what Pierce can do as the team continues offseason work after rookie minicamp. Pierce is a long receiver who eats up yards with big strides. He has strong hands and good concentration, winning many passes at the catch point. Around 72.5 percent of his catches went for a first down or a touchdown with the Cincinnati Bearcats over the last two years, so Pierce is obviously someone who can move the chains. |
Indianapolis Colts third-round draft choice S Nick Cross signed a four-year contract with the Colts Friday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Indianapolis Colts signed four of their selections from the 2022 NFL draft, including fifth-round DT Eric Johnson, sixth-round TE Andrew Ogletree, sixth-round DT Curtis Brooks, and seventh-round S Rodney Thomas II, the team announced Friday, May 13.

Free-agent OT Dennis Kelly (Packers) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Indianapolis Colts Tuesday, May 10.
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts WR Parris Campbell likely will enter training camp as the leading candidate for the slot receiver role.
Footballguys view: Campbell has a ton of speed to his game, so he could fly by defenders from the slot. He just needs to stay healthy and produce in the final year of his contract with the Colts. A second-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, Campbell has only played 15 games over the last three seasons. Campbell missed 11 games with a foot injury in 2021. He suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2020 and a season-ending foot injury in 2019. The Colts should be enticed if he's healthy, but they should expect him to be available for half the season at best. |

Indianapolis Colts third-round selection WR Alec Pierce is expected to be the starting 'Z' in 2022, according to Nate Atkins of the Indianapolis Star.
Footballguys view: Pierce is a competitive player with plenty of drive and determination. He has a nice size/speed combination and attacks the ball in the air - even when defenders are all over him. Pierce became QB Desmond Ridder's favorite target in college and over 72 percent of his catches resulted in first downs over the last two seasons. If healthy, Pierce could make plays for the Colts as their starting 'Z' receiver. |
Indianapolis Colts LB Darius Leonard (ankle) said he feels healthier physically and mentally after spending the offseason resting and strengthening his ankle. 'It feels a whole lot better than what it did, coming from the end of the season,' Leonard said. 'A lot of time to rest, trying to make it stronger. I feel better coming into this season than I did last year, I can say that.'
Footballguys view: Leonard said he fell out of love with football last year as he played through an ankle injury and dealt with covid and worried about sick family members at home. He said he's feeling better than he did coming into last year, and that he hopes he can avoid another surgery on the ankle. His profile as the #1 IDP linebacker, perhaps #1 overall IDP, is still strong, but the ankle issues cast a shadow over his dynasty stock. |

The Indianapolis Colts added DB Marcel Dabo on Tuesday, May 3, as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway program. Dabo will remain with the team through training camp and won't count towards the Colts' 90-man offseason roster. If kept on the practice squad, he won't count towards the 16-man limit, either.
Link to storyUndrafted free agent LB Forrest Rhyne (Villanova), DE Cullen Wick (Tulsa), WR Samson Nacua (BYU), WR Michael Young Jr. (Cincinnati), LB JoJo Domann (Nebraska), S Sterling Weatherford (Miami, Ohio), OL Josh Seltzner (Wisconsin), OL Alex Mollette (Marshall), DL Scott Patchan (Colorado State) and Trevor Denbow (SMU) are signing undisclosed deals with the Indianapolis Colts.
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts QB Matt Ryan is in the team's long-term plans, owner Jim Irsay said. 'We hope Matt can be here for four years, maybe,' Irsay said. 'We certainly have our radar out for a young guy that can be the long-term future.'
Footballguys view: How much longer can Ryan play at a high level? Is he going to be recharged with a fresh start in Indianapolis this season? These questions need to be considered before talking "long term" with Ryan. He'll turn 37-years old later this month, and Ryan may not have four years of starting caliber play left. Sure, Ryan is an upgrade over Carson Wentz but that's not saying much. |
Matt Ryan player page
Undrafted free agents OT Ryan Van Demark (Connecticut), CB Dallas Flowers (Pittsburgh), RB D'Vonte Price (FIU), RB CJ Verdell (Oregon) and WR Kekoa Crawford (California) signed undisclosed contracts with the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, April 30.
Footballguys view: Verdell suffered two unfortunate injuries over his final two seasons with the Ducks. If healthy, he's got enough instincts and contact balance to make a roster in the NFL. |
