Los Angeles LB Denzel Perryman was arrested on a felony weapons charge on Friday, Aug. 1.
Footballguys view: The Chargers have Junior Colson and Troy Dye behind Perryman, but they could also bring back Kyzir White, who is still a free agent, if they think they won't have Perryman for an extended time and don't feel comfortable with Colson or Dye starting. |

Dallas Cowboys DE Micah Parsons is considering drastic measures, such as a trade request, as his relationship with the team has deteriorated. The two sides remain far apart heading into the second week of training camp and are not currently negotiating.
Footballguys view: These situations usually end with a new contract, but Parsons seems like the type that's willing to sit out regular season games. Dallas opens with Philadelphia, so the Eagles will have a major advantage if the two sides can't find middle ground. |

Cleveland Browns LB Jordan Hicks announced his retirement Friday, July 25. Hicks compiled 951 tackles over 10 seasons.
Footballguys view: The Browns still have a viable duo in the middle of their defense with free agent signing Jerome Baker and second round pick Carson Schwesinger, but they may look to the free agent pool to add depth to the group after Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was already put on the PUP list earlier in the offseason, making him unavailable this year. |

Indianapolis Colts LB Zaire Franklin (ankle) will not practice in the early days of training camp, per ESPN's Stephen Holder, but GM Chris Ballard said that Franklin is expected to be ready 'pretty quickly,' which is why the team elected not to put him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Detroit Lions LB Alex Anzalone (hamstring) is out with a hamstring injury, according to head coach Dan Campbell. No timetable for his return was given.
Footballguys view: According to local reports, this news confirms that Anzalone is not voluntarily missing practice as a "hold-in" protest against not having a new contract. Anzalone would like a new deal entering the final year of his three-year, $18.75 million contract signed in 2023. But on Sunday, head coach Dan Campbell felt fairly certain Anzalone wasn't the type of player to sit out on his own accord. Veteran Zach Cunningham, who was signed as a free agent back in May, will get more work in Anzalone's absence. |

Pittsburgh Steelers LB T.J. Watt is expected to sign a long-term contract that will exceed the four-year, $160 million extension Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett signed earlier this offseason, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Per Pelissero, the 'most likely' outcome is that the two sides will agree to an extension before the season opener.
Footballguys view: The Steelers have made a lot of moves this offseason, but apparently some teams found it curious that they didn't get this deal done before the flurry of activity, so there have been inquiries about Watt's availability via trade. If Pelissero's report is correct, those have been in vain. Watt is turning 31 during the season, so any new contract will be paying top dollar for years on the back nine of his career arc. |
T.J. Watt player page
Pittsburgh Steelers LB T.J. Watt skipped the team's most recent minicamp and remains unhappy with his current contractual situation. Although Pittsburgh has not shown any interest in trading him, ESPN's Adam Schefter - via multiple sources - believes that the June 30 trade that involved CB Jalen Ramsey, TE Jonnu Smith and S Minkah Fitzpatrick could lead to more outside team interest for Watt.
Footballguys view: There has been no indication from the Steelers that they are looking to trade Watt, and Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that they remain focused on signing him to a contract extension. Profootballtalk.com notes that a report this month indicated they expect to finalize a deal before the start of the season. Watt signed his last extension days before the start of Week 1, and the Steelers have a long-standing policy of not negotiating during the season. |

Pittsburgh Steelers LB T.J. Watt was absent from mandatory minicamp due to contract concerns, but the holdout is not considered contentious, according to sources Sunday, June 15.
Footballguys view: USA Today's Andrew Vasquez added to this by suggesting that despite concerns over whether or not the Steelers are even close to the number Watt is looking for, there seems to be an overreaction stemming from his minicamp absence -- one that can be easily alleviated if the star pass rusher shows up at training camp next month. |
