Cardinals | Jon Gaines to be limited Wed Jul 24, 07:48 PM
Arizona Cardinals OG Jon Gaines II (knee) will be a limited participant during the early part of training camp because he is still recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals OG Carter O'Donnell (undisclosed) was moved to the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, July 24, after clearing waivers.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals OL Carter O'Donnell (undisclosed) was waived with an injury designation on Tuesday, July 23.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals third-round draft choice RB Trey Benson (Florida State) signed a four-year contract on Thursday, July 18. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: We love Benson's ability as an inside runner, but he's going to have to wait his turn. James Conner is still the lead back for the Cardinals, and that means the rookie is going to spell him this season. However, Benson does have a starter's upside and that's why we are hoarding him in dynasty formats. |
Asked to identify a potential fantasy breakout on Arizona's offense, The Athletic's Doug Haller -- qualifying that he views "breakouts" as players worth consideration in mid-to-late fantasy rounds, chose WR Michael Wilson.
Footballguys view: Even though he missed four games due to injuries, Wilson was steady as a rookie in 2023, with 38 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns. Haller contends Wilson's production should jump this year, especially with QB Kyler Murray in place for a full season. Wilson's current Average Draft Position is WR70, going with the pick 177. |
Arizona Cardinals RB James Conner said his career-high 1,040 rushing yards last year are his floor for the 2024 season. 'Definitely got a lot of work to put in but that's the floor, not the ceiling.'
Footballguys view: Conner went over 1,000 yards on the ground, but he scored half as many touchdowns (9) as he did in 2021 (18). We like projecting him for around 950 yards on the ground with around seven total touchdowns and 30-35 receptions. That makes him an RB2/flex option for Fantasy GMs in 2024. |

Arizona Cardinals RB James Conner is 'locked into a starter role' entering the 2024 season, according to Jess Root of Cards Wire on Saturday, July 6.
Footballguys view: That sounds about right. We like rookie RB Trey Benson, the Cardinals' third-round pick out of Florida State, but he's going to work his way into the league as a backup to Conner. From a fantasy perspective, Conner is a low-end RB2 with upside. |

Johnny Venerable of PHNX_Cardinals said in an interview with NBC that James Conner will "see the bulk share" of the backfield for the Cardinals.
Footballguys view: Third round pick Trey Benson shouldn't be seen as a threat to Conner's value this year. Venerable said Michael Carter could also figure into the backfield over Benson behind Conner. Conner's ADP is too low for a player who was producing like an RB1 down the stretch in a Cardinals offense that was inferior to what they'll have this year. |

Arizona Cardinals LB BJ Ojulari 'displayed an improved set of pass-rush moves that could help him break into the rotation in a deep outside linebackers room,' according to ESPN.com's Josh Weinfuss.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. has been impressive during offseason workouts and should take the Cardinals offense to another level, according to QB Kyler Murray.
Footballguys view: It's going to be difficult for Harrison to live up to his top 15 draft pick cost in redraft/best ball, but this is exactly what we wanted to hear coming out of OTAs if he is up to the task of being one of the top 10 receivers in the league in his rookie year, and who we want to hear it from. |
Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray has been working with his receivers on the weekends to try to perfect his timing.

Arizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. was taking the top spot in receiver drills during minicamp, according to sources Monday, June 17.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Josh Weinfuss, while Harrison has made the routine plays look simple, he has also made the difficult look easy. Coach Jonathan Gannon said Harrison's transition to the NFL has been "pretty seamless," and teammates on both sides of the ball have been heaping praise on the fourth overall pick. Harrison will need to be every bit as good as advertised if he's going to make good on his current WR9 Average Draft Position on Underdog. We'll be watching for more on that when training camp opens. |
Arizona Cardinals OG Jon Gaines II (knee) should be at least a limited participant when training camp begins, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals OL Evan Brown has emerged as the leading candidate to be the team's starting left guard, although there is plenty of competition for the position. OGs Elijah Wilkinson, Trystan Colon, Carter O'Donnell, Keith Ismael, Jon Gaines and Isaiah Adams are also believed to be in the running for the job.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals RB James Conner is entering the final year of his current contract and said that he would be interested in remaining with the team beyond the 2024 season.
Footballguys view: Conner had career-best numbers in rushing yardage last year, going over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career. This year, Conner should be tasked with carrying a heavy load again. Fantasy GMs should see him as an RB2/flex option in 2024, but his 2025 status is up in the air (for both fantasy and the Cardinals). |

Link to storyArizona Cardinals first-round draft choice WR Marvin Harrison Jr. signed a four-year contract with the Cardinals Thursday, May 23. The deal includes a fifth-year option, but financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: The no.4 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft can flat-out play. The Cardinals are thrilled to add him to the roster, and he should get plenty of targets early and often in 2024. Catching 80 passes for over 1,000 yards and 5-8 touchdowns is well within the possibilities for Harrison...and he's just getting started. |
Arizona Cardinals CB Elijah Jones, the team's third-round selection, signed his four-year rookie contract. The deal is worth $5.69 million and includes a $954,920 signing bonus.

Free-agent WR Zay Jones (Jaguars) reportedly agreed to terms on a contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, May 10. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Footballguys view: Jones had a few teams interested (Titans, Chiefs, Cowboys), but it's the Cardinals who land him. If healthy, Jones can still produce consistently like he did in 2022 with the Jaguars. Jones will compete with Michael Wilson to be the no.2 wideout opposite of rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr. |

Undrafted free-agent QB Taulia Tagovailoa (Maryland) reportedly accepted an invitation to participate in the Arizona Cardinals' rookie minicamp this week.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Zay Jones (Jaguars) is visiting with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, May 7.
Footballguys view: Arizona could be a decent landing spot for a veteran reveiver with Jones abilities. The Cardinals depth chart after rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson is thin. Greg Dortch is currently penciled in as the team's WR3 with Zach Pascal and Chris Moore leading a field of lesser lights beyond that. Jones previously visited the Titans, who signed former Bengal Tyler Boyd on Tuesday. |

Footballguys view: The Cardinals have been visiting with all the top wideouts in this year's draft class. The team has the fourth-pick overall and is widely expected to draft Marvin Harrison Jr. But there's also plenty of reason to believe will be looking to move back, much like they did last April. |
