Cardinals | Carson Beck sits again Wed Aug 26, 03:46 PM
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Beck (rib) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals RB James Conner's (foot) availability for Week 1 is uncertain at this point, according to head coach Mike LaFleur.
Footballguys view: LaFleur said there is no timetable to get Conner out there for 11-on-11 work. That means his Week 1 availability is certainly in question. Conner is coming back from the ankle injury that cut his 2025 season short in Week 3 last year. With a revised contract, the Cardinals can look at Conner (when healthy) as veteran insurance behind Tyler Allgeier and rookie Jeremiyah Love.

Arizona Cardinals RB Trey Benson (knee) was not claimed on waivers and reverts back to the Cardinals' reserve/injured list, according to a source on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Link to storyFree-agent S Josh Minkins (Patriots) and P Jack Browning (Ravens) have signed with the Arizona Cardinals, according to a source on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals C Hjalte Froholdt agreed to terms on a two-year, $20 million contract extension on Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals RB Trey Benson (knee) was waived/injured Monday, Aug. 24.
Footballguys view: As SBNation's Seth Cox reminded readers, Benson has struggled to stay healthy in his two seasons in the NFL, and then the Arizona Cardinals spent an absurd amount of resources this offseason to fix the issues with the running back room. It left a crowded space with Jeremiyah Love, Tyler Allgeier, and James Conner at the top of the depth chart. Now, the Cardinals have one less decision to make, and the fact that reserve RB Zonovan Knight didn't play against Dallas on Saturday makes even more sense. We'll be watching to see if Benson catches on with another team.
Arizona Cardinals WR Xavier Weaver (hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Aug. 24.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals WR Bryson Green and TE Baylor Cupp were waived Monday, Aug. 24.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals DE Josh Sweat (knee) was activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, Aug. 24.
Footballguys view: The return of Sweat answers the biggest question hanging over the Cardinals since training camp began. After notching a career-best 12 sacks last season, Sweat did not take part in any voluntary work and then was a surprise addition to the PUP list at the start of camp as he worked on his left knee. The knee has required maintenance since a serious injury when he was in college. The Cardinals, in desperate need of his impact in the pass rush, have three weeks to prepare for the season opener in Los Angeles on Sept. 13.

Arizona Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love (ankle) is making progress in his recovery but will not participate in practice this week, according to head coach Mike LaFleur.
Footballguys view: This is not a surprise. The No. 3 overall pick suffered what's believed to be a high-ankle sprain on the final touch of his exhibition debut against the Raiders two weeks ago. While the Cardinals are hopeful he can return for a Week 1 contest against the Chargers on Sept. 13, there will be no practices in his immediate future. When he was playing, Love looked terrific. His explosiveness and agility jumped off the screen. But expecting a slower start due to this injury would be wise. Love has fallen to RB16 in our latest rankings.
Arizona Cardinals S Dadrion Taylor-Demerson's (ribs) injury to his ribs is not believed to be serious, according to head coach Mike LaFleur.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals S Wydett Williams Jr. (head) and CB Kalen King (head) were both evaluated for concussions after being injured in the preseason game versus the Dallas Cowboys Saturday, Aug. 22. However, it is not yet known if either player was concussed.

Arizona Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love will not need surgery on his injured ankle, according to head coach Mike LaFleur.
Footballguys view: As the Arizona Republic noted, some took LaFleur's answer to mean that surgery had been under consideration for Love, elevating concerns. To be clear, there has been no indication that was the case. LaFleur was responding to a reporter's question, double-checking that Love would not need surgery. When surgery is not required, a typical recovery timeline for this injury is between two and six weeks. The Cardinals kick off their season on Sept. 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers -- one month to the day after Love suffered his injury. We'll continue to watch for more.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Cardinals plan on giving Jeremiyah Love the week off after he suffered an ankle injury in the preseason opener. Fowler added that the team is "hopeful" he'll be ready for Week 1. Some have speculated that he suffered a high ankle sprain, but head coach Mike LaFleur refused to give more specific information about the injury.
Footballguys view: We weren't worried about Love's status for Week 1 until now. Adam Schefter has reported that the injury is a high ankle sprain. Love is still such a high upside play in the third round that it shouldn't discourage you from taking him, but Tyler Allgeier is becoming more interesting as a bench stash while we bide our time waiting for Love to return to the field.
Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Beck (ribs) still has some discomfort in his ribs, but it isn't expected to be a long-term issue, according to head coach Mike LaFleur. 'He needs to heal a little more,' LaFleur said Sunday, Aug. 16.

Arizona Cardinals RB James Conner (foot) is still making progress in his recovery from a foot injury, but head coach Mike LaFluer said there is no timetable for when Conner will participate in team drills.
Footballguys view: The Cardinals have a jam-packed backfield when everyone is healthy, so many have speculated that Conner could be available via trade for a team in need of a veteran presence at the running back position. Conner is currently behind Jeremiyah Love and Tyler Allgeier on the depth chart - and he's competing with Trey Benson for the no.3 spot. He suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 3 last year, and Conner has been steadily working his way back since then.

Arizona Cardinals TE Elijah Higgins (concussion) is dealing with a concussion, according to head coach Mike LaFleur.

Arizona Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love (ankle) will be sidelined this week because of the ankle injury he suffered during the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 13, and will be reevaluated after the week is over, according to head coach Mike LaFleur.
Footballguys view: The team is going to evaluate after next week, and there's no telling if Love is going to be available for the team's third preseason game that week. The rookie has been flashing in camp and the preseason as the team's starter. If this ankle injury lingers, Tyler Allgeier could be more involved to begin the regular season. Stay tuned.

Arizona Cardinals OG Chase Bisontis (knee) suffered a torn medial collateral ligament and will require surgery that could sideline him for the entire 2026 season.
Link to storyCardinals head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters on Friday, Aug. 14, that he has 'no concern' over QB Carson Beck's rib injury.

Arizona Cardinals RB Jeremiyah Love rushed 11 times for 58 yards and caught three passes for 14 yards in the preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders Thursday, Aug. 13.
Footballguys view: Love was as good as advertised, perhaps even better depending on your expectations. With the Cardinals offense also impressing, the chances of him delivering on his ADP near the 2/3 turn in 12-team leagues is going up. He did leave with a minor ankle issue, but head coach Mike LaFleur said Love is "fine" and that he could have returned to the game. This was an alarming amount of work for such a valuable player in the first preseason game, but the Cardinals believe that rookie running backs need more live reps in preseason to prepare them than they have been given in the past.

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Wilson caught both of his targets for 23 yards in the preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders Thursday, Aug. 13.
Footballguys view: The glass half empty take here is that Wilson gave way to Jalen Brooks for four snaps with the ones. The glass half full take is that Wilson still led the offense in catches and yards in that very small sample. With the Cardinals offense looking more game under Mike LaFleur, Wilson is becoming a more attractive pick around his 8th round ADP, especially in PPR leagues.

Arizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. caught a seven-yard touchdown against the Las Vegas Raiders during the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 13.
Footballguys view: Harrison led the wide receiver group in snaps, but ran the same number of routes as Michael Wilson and Kendrick Bourne. He was able to separate on a crossing route in the red zone and Jacoby Brissett stood in to deliver a laser into a crowd for the score. That should build Harrison's confidence. It will be difficult for Harrison to have a true breakout season in this crowded offense, but as long as Brissett starts, it could be productive enough for Harrison to deliver his ADP value - which is in the sixth round of most drafts.

Arizona Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett completed all five of his pass attempts for 44 yards and a touchdown in the preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders Thursday, Aug. 13.
Footballguys view: Brissett looked comfortable in Mike LaFleur's offense and zinged a short touchdown to Marvin Harrison Jr. on a crossing route that showed LaFleur understands how to use his receivers. The offensive line might have taken a big blow when second round pick Chase Bisontis went down with a knee injury that LaFleur called "not good", but otherwise it was an encouraging night for Brissett and the Cardinals offense.

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Beck (rib) will miss the team's preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 13. QB Jacoby Brissett is expected to start the game.
Link to storyCarson Beck player page
Arizona Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett will play a series or two along with the other starters during the preseason game Thursday, Aug. 14.
Footballguys view: Brissett got his new contract around the start of camp, and he's set to start in Week 1. They may not win many games with Brissett as their starter, but the wide receivers do benefit from a veteran under center. Even though Brissett will begin the season as the starter, there's a chance they have an eye on the future and give Carson Beck a look late in the year.
