Cardinals | Aubrey Pleasant met with Arizona on Monday    Mon Feb 9, 01:12 PM

Los Angeles Rams assistant head coach/pass game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant met with the Arizona Cardinals regarding their defensive coordinator vacancy on Monday, Feb. 9.

Footballguys view: After hiring head coach Mike LaFleur, the Cardinals need to find a defensive play-caller to lead their defense. Pleasant is familiar with LaFleur after spending the last three years with him in Los Angeles. Pleasant has coached in the NFL for the past 13 seasons, also spending time in Washington, Cleveland, Detroit, and Green Bay. Pleasant is also expected to meet with the Browns for their opening.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray not expected back    Mon Feb 9, 12:21 AM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray will likely be traded or released this offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rappoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo.

Footballguys view: Murray made just five starts in 2025, throwing for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions before suffering a foot injury in Week 5. He went on injured reserve, and by December, the Cardinals decided he would not come off of it. Murray is guaranteed $36.8 million regardless of what happens, but if he's on the team's roster past the first week of the new league year, which begins March 11, he is guaranteed an additional $20 million. Thus, the Cardinals and new head coach Mike LaFleur have a pretty obvious deadline to make a final decision.

Cardinals | Jacoby Brissett could become available    Mon Feb 9, 12:14 AM

Arizona Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett may be placed on the trade block if the team decides to keep QB Kyler Murray, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

Footballguys view: While there's considerable reporting that suggests Kyler Murray will be moving on, Fowler believes the door to Murray staying in Arizona is still possible. New coach Mike LaFleur is familiar with Murray's game. Nothing is decided as LaFleur sorts through staffing issues. Keeping Murray could prove the path of least resistance. If he stays, Brissett would become a workable trade candidate. He's due a reasonable $4.88 million in base salary. Fowler notes that Brissett has friends in the league -- such as Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski and Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich -- who could have interest in getting him.

Cardinals | Malik Willis an option in Arizona?    Sun Feb 8, 02:19 PM

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent QB Malik Willis could be pursued by the Arizona Cardinals in free agency if the Cardinals part ways with QB Kyler Murray, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.

Footballguys view: The Dolphins should be considered the favorite to get Willis because new head coach Jeff Hafley is familiar with him from their time together in Green Bay along with the Dolphins likely need for a new starter after they seemed to move on from Tua Tagovailoa when he was benched late last season. As we saw in 2025, Willis could be a top 6-8 fantasy quarterback with a QB1 ceiling in any given week if he is a starter, so he's probably undervalued in early best ball drafts and dynasty leagues right now.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray staying put?    Sun Feb 8, 02:19 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray's future with the team hasn't been decided, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, and Fowler believes it is still possible that Murray remains with the team next season.

Footballguys view: What this probably means is that the Cardinals are realizing no one is going to trade for Murray with a $22 million+ price tag for 2026 that includes a $17 million roster bonus and $19+ million that guarantees for 2027 on the fifth day of the league season in May. They could release Murray, but will be on the hook for his 2026 salary, so Mike LaFleur might just decide to let Murray and Jacoby Brissett wage a quarterback competition in camp. We know who fantasy players will be rooting for.

Cardinals | Matt Merritt joining Arizona's staff    Thu Feb 5, 05:19 PM

Miami (Fla.) running backs coach Matt Merritt is being hired by the Arizona Cardinals as their new running backs coach, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Merritt has coached for eight different college programs, including Ohio State and Tennessee. The Cardinals have James Conner heading to free agency and Trey Benson hasn't proven much in his first two seasons, so they could make a splash to add to Merritt's position group.

Cardinals | Nathaniel Hackett hired as OC    Wed Feb 4, 02:37 PM

Miami Dolphins QB coach Nathaniel Hackett was hired by the Arizona Cardinals to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

Footballguys view: Good luck with that. Hackett hasn't done much outside of his time with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. Hackett didn't work with new Cardinals HC Mike LaFleur, but he did spend a few seasons with his brother Packers HC Matt LaFleur. Nothing is official, but most expect LaFleur to be the play-caller for the Cardinals offense. Now, about that quarterback thing...

Cardinals | Mike LaFleur to call plays    Tue Feb 3, 03:09 PM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur will call plays for the team in 2026.

Footballguys view: Though Sean McVay has been the Rams' playcaller, LaFleur played a vital role in the team's success. In his three years in Los Angeles, the offense was fifth in passing yards, first downs, and touchdowns, sixth in yards and points per game, and eighth in red-zone efficiency. In 2025, McVay, LaFleur, and quarterback Matthew Stafford were at the forefront of an offense that was first in the NFL in points and yards ahead of a run to the NFC title game. LaFleur, who handled playcalling for two seasons as Jets offensive coordinator, told reporters on Tuesday that "he missed it."

Cardinals | Michael Wilson breaks out in second half    Tue Feb 3, 12:26 AM

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Wilson recorded 809 of his 1,006 receiving yards during the second half of the 2025 regular season. He also caught six of his seven touchdowns during that span.

Footballguys view: Wilson joined tight end Trey McBride in the Cardinals' 1,000-yard receiving club. Given how he started the season, with just eight catches for 52 yards and a touchdown over the first five games, Wilson's finish was remarkable. With Jacoby Brissett taking over for Kyler Murray, plus Wilson getting WR1 opportunities with Marvin Harrison Jr. injured, the third-year pro was able to take off behind 65 catches for 855 yards (and the six scores) over the next 11 games. Offseason developments in Arizona will determine our view of Wilson in 2026, but a new, offensive-minded head coach in Mike LaFleur is a great start.

Cardinals | Trey McBride played well after halftime    Mon Feb 2, 04:04 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Trey McBride caught nine of his 11 touchdowns during the second half of games this season. He did record 658 receiving yards in the first half of games and 563 receiving yards in the second half.

Footballguys view: In other words, McBride was excellent. He finished 2025 with 126 receptions, 1,239 yards, and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 18.6 PPR points per game. The next closest tight end was Kyle Pitts at 12.4. McBride, who finished as TE1 overall, scored 315.9 points. That's 105.1 points more than Pitts. Per Next Gen Stats, McBride's 169 targets ranked third in the NFL behind only Ja'Marr Chase and Amon-Ra St. Brown. It was three more than Puka Nacua's 166. Expect to pay up to land McBride in drafts this summer.

Cardinals | Gus Bradley emerges as top DC candidate    Mon Feb 2, 01:00 AM

San Francisco 49ers assistant head coach Gus Bradley has emerged as the top defensive coordinator candidate for the Arizona Cardinals and new head coach Mike LaFleur, according to NFL insider Albert Breer.

Footballguys view: According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, Bradley, who was up for the defensive coordinator job, may be on the move. Breer wrote on Sunday that "the Titans or Cardinals could hire him as DC, with Arizona having the edge of making him play-caller. Both would be good opportunities for Bradley to get back into the role after a year with the 49ers. He's been a defensive coordinator four times in the past, including stints with the Seattle Seahawks (2009-12), Los Angeles Chargers (2017-20), Las Vegas Raiders (2021), and Indianapolis Colts (2022-24).

Cardinals | Mike LaFleur announced as Arizona's head coach    Sun Feb 1, 03:56 PM

The NFC West was the best division in football this past season, and now, it's produced the Arizona Cardinals' next head coach. The team announced on Sunday they are hiring Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur to replace Jonathan Gannon. He has agreed to a five-year contract.

Footballguys view: LaFleur, who turns 39 in March, is the younger brother of Packers coach Matt LaFleur, has been the Rams' offensive coordinator for the past three seasons. While he didn't call plays for head coach Sean McVay, LaFleur did call plays in his two previous seasons as offensive coordinator with the Jets. In his three years with the Rams, the offense was fifth in passing yards, first downs and touchdowns, sixth in yards and points per game, and eighth in red-zone efficiency. LaFleur is the 11th coach the Cardinals have had since moving to Arizona.

Cardinals | Day two pick for Kyler Murray?    Tue Jan 27, 12:11 AM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray likely will be made available in a trade this offseason, and the Cardinals are expected to look for at least a Day 2 pick in any trade, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Whether the Cardinals want to trade Murray is one of the most important offseason questions for Arizona. According to ESPN.com's Josh Weinfuss, before Jonathan Gannon was fired a day after the regular season, the belief inside the Cardinals was that a decision would be reached within the first two weeks of the offseason. However, with Arizona on the hunt for a new head coach, that decision could be tabled until the new coach and his staff are in place. It's a situation that bears watching.

Cardinals | Arizona wants Arthur Smith interview    Wed Jan 14, 10:52 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is being requested for an interview by the Arizona Cardinals for their head coaching vacancy.

Footballguys view: Smith has a run-heavy system and plenty of experience, and that's why teams are interested. The Cardinals are going to be rebuilding, and they are likely moving on from QB Kyler Murray. Smith would run the ball early and often, perhaps with Jacoby Brissett as the quarterback to start the 2026 season. Perhaps a rookie quarterback is in play for the Cardinals in this year's draft.

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has been requested to interview with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Footballguys view: Saleh returned to the 49ers after spending three-plus seasons as the head coach of the Jets. Saleh was 20-36 during his time with the AFC East club. In addition to Saleh, the Cardinals have requested interviews with Denver DC Vance Joseph and Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver.

Cardinals | Arizona requests interview with Anthony Weaver    Tue Jan 6, 03:48 PM

Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver has been requested by the Arizona Cardinals to interview for their head coaching vacancy.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals are expected to interview Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph for their head coaching vacancy this week, and two more candidates from that side of the ball are also on their list of candidates. Albert Breer of SI.com reports that the Cardinals have requested permission to interview 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh in addition to Weaver, whose name has also come up as part of the Falcons' head coaching search. He has been on Mike McDaniel's staff for the last two seasons and has also worked for the Ravens, Texans, Browns, Bills, and Jets.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray done in Arizona?    Tue Jan 6, 01:35 AM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is not expected to return to the Cardinals next season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who said that he believes the team is 'planning to move on' from Murray, regardless of who is hired as the next head coach.

Footballguys view: This comes a day after GM Monti Ossenfort told reporters that Murray remains under contract and said that all options are on the table for what the team will do at the position in the future. But Schefter's belief adds to an already large body of speculation suggesting that Murray has played his last snap in Arizona. There are a lot of moving pieces here. Moving on from Murray would require the Cardinals to have a fallback plan that works for whoever the next coach will be. While there's contractual urgency to get this done, it's unlikely to be immediate.

Cardinals | GM: All options on the table with Kyler Murray    Mon Jan 5, 04:11 PM

Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill confirmed that General Manager Monti Ossenfort will be leading the search for the team's next head coach during a Monday press conference, and Ossenfort weighed in on another major offseason decision later in the session. Quarterback Kyler Murray missed the final 12 games of the season with a foot injury, and there was plenty of speculation during the season that he had played his final game as a Cardinal. During Monday's press conference, Ossenfort noted that Murray remains under contract and said that all options are on the table for what the team will do at the position in the future.

Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com suggested, the identity of the next head coach will obviously have a bearing on what direction the Cardinals choose to go. Murray's contract guarantees him over $39 million in 2026, and keeping him on the roster through the fifth day of the new league year will add another $19.5 million in guarantees for 2027. Moving on from Murray would also require the Cardinals to find another starter (or stick with Jacoby Brissett, who replaced Murray), so choosing the next coach is only the start of a busy offseason for Ossenfort and the Cardinals.

Cardinals | Jonathan Gannon fired    Mon Jan 5, 11:46 AM

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon was fired Monday, Jan. 5.

Footballguys view: Arizona finished 3-14 this season, bringing Gannon's record to 15-36 in his three seasons as the Cardinals' head coach. He never reached the playoffs while also never finishing higher than third in the NFC West. Arizona went 4-13 in 2023 to finish last in the division and 8-9 last season to finish third. Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort was retained and will spearhead the search for a new head coach.

Cardinals | Michael Wilson hits the 1,000-yard mark    Sun Jan 4, 10:04 PM

The Arizona Cardinals have another 1,000-yard pass catcher on the roster. With Michael Wilson's 20-yard catch in the third quarter of Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the wide receiver joined tight end Trey McBride in the 1K club. Wilson finished the game with 99 yards and a touchdown on five catches to push his yearly total to 78 catches for 1,006 yards and seven touchdowns.

Footballguys view: Given how he started the season, with just eight catches for 52 yards and a touchdown over the first five games, Wilson's finish is remarkable. With Jacoby Brissett taking over for Kyler Murray, plus Wilson getting WR1 opportunities with Marvin Harrison Jr. injured, the third-year pro was able to take off behind 65 catches for 855 yards and five touchdowns across the next 11 games. Offseason developments in Arizona will determine our view of Wilson in 2026, but he's off to a great start.
