Cardinals | DeAndre Hopkins to be eased back    Wed Jun 29, 07:33 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins (knee) will be eased back into practice early in training camp because he is coming back from a knee injury. He will not practice every day and the team has a plan for him since he will miss the first six games of the season because of his suspension.

Cardinals | DeAndre Hopkins hoping for reduced ban    Fri Jun 24, 03:56 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins is hoping to have his six-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances reduced. 'We're still doing some research right now,' Hopkins said. 'Hopefully, before the season starts, maybe we can get the games down a little bit. But no, it wasn't on me. I'm a natural. I'm pretty much a naturopathic kind of person. What it was, it's called Ostarine. There was 0.1 percent of it found in my system and, if you know what that is, it's contamination and not something directly taken. I don't take any supplements, I've never taken supplements, I barely take vitamins. For something like that to happen to me, I was shocked, but my [group], we're still trying to find out what's going on.'

Footballguys view: We'll see what's going on, but right now it looks like the Cardinals will be without Hopkins for six games. That means WR Marquise Brown and TE Zach Ertz will be peppered with targets while he's out. If Hopkins suspension is reduced, that's nothing but good news for QB Kyler Murray and the high-powered Cardinals offense.

Cardinals | Maxx Williams to start camp on PUP list?    Tue Jun 21, 11:34 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Maxx Williams (knee) will likely start training camp on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List, Cards Wire's Jess Root speculated on Wednesday, June 20. Williams is currently recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Footballguys view: Williams is a big-bodied veteran who can use his frame to box out smaller defenders, but injuries and inconsistencies have kept him from playing up to his potential as a pro. He's a blocking specialist at this point in his career with TE Zach Ertz the top pass catcher for the Cardinals at the position.

Cardinals | Eno Benjamin looks 'tremendous' in offseason     Sat Jun 18, 04:22 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Eno Benjamin had a 'tremendous' showing during the offseason workouts, according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury. 'Eno Benjamin has been tremendous. (He is) another guy who never had an offseason and he's out there and looks like he could be a starting running back,' said Kingsbury.

Footballguys view: Benjamin is fighting for a roster spot with sixth round pick Keaontay Ingram and 2020 UDFA Jonathan Ward also vying to be the third string back behind James Conner and Darrel Williams. He hasn't gotten much opportunity in his first two seasons after the Cardinals took the Arizona State product in the seventh round of the 2020 draft. Conner has never played every game in a season, so knowing who wins this battle could be important in fantasy leagues.

Cardinals | David Johnson open to Cards reunion    Sat Jun 18, 02:55 PM

Free-agent RB David Johnson (Texans) hinted he's open to returning to the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, June 17. 'Back where it all began. Who knows,' Johnson tweeted in response to a fan who asked him to come back to Arizona. 'The Red Sea always has a special place in my heart!'

Footballguys view: Johnson is a free agent...so he's open to pretty much any destination. He participated with the Saints in minicamp on a tryout basis, but he did not land a deal. Johnson is not what he used to be as a runner anymore, but he can still be an effective receiver out of the backfield. The Cardinals have James Conner as their lead back with Darrel Williams giving them valuable depth as the no.2 back. If added, Johnson would not push either one for much playing time.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray reports in time for minicamp    Mon Jun 13, 01:56 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray took his physical on Monday, June 13, and is expected to participate in the team's mandatory minicamp beginning Tuesday, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The work is mandatory, so Murray is going to show up. It seems like things are trending in the right direction between Murray and the Cardinals even though some report there has been no movement in contract negotiations. He wants to be one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league, and it seems like the Cardinals will oblige. When that happens is anyone's guess. It's a good faith sign for Murray to show up, so the Cardinals should be showing him the money at some point.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray set to attend minicamp    Mon Jun 13, 12:54 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is expected to attend mandatory minicamp when it starts on Tuesday, June 14, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Murray is currently seeking a new contract. Reports indicate there has been no movement in contract negotiations at this time. However, Murray showing up for mandatory minicamp is a good faith move. Deeper into the summer, the Cardinals could make him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.

Cardinals | DeAndre Hopkins to be ready for camp    Mon Jun 6, 04:27 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins (knee) is expected to be a 'full go' for training camp, according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury on Monday, June 6.

Footballguys view: Hopkins will be ready for training camp after coming back from the knee injury that cut his 2021 season short. However, his regular season will begin with him on the bench. Hopkins still has to serve a six-week suspension for violating the league's PED policy.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray is in the building    Wed Jun 1, 02:25 PM

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray was officially in attendance for organized team activities on Wednesday, June 1, and was throwing passes during his first session.

Footballguys view: Murray wants a new contract from the Cardinals, but nothing has come to fruition yet. This could be a good faith move from the young passer as he continues to wait for a deal. The Cardinals have put more weapons around Murray this year, and we imagine they'll get him a new contract at some point before the start of the regular season.

Cardinals | Jaylen Samuels let go    Tue May 31, 06:53 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Jaylen Samuels was released Tuesday, May 31.

Footballguys view: Samuels, a fifth-round pick of the Steelers out of North Carolina State in the 2018 NFL draft, was always a player without a position. He played seven different positions in college and is kind of a jack of all trades but master of none. Samuels could latch on with another team as a big-bodied pass-catching back.

Cardinals | Darrel Williams officially signed    Tue May 31, 06:51 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Darrel Williams (Chiefs) officially signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, May 31. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: This is a good landing spot for Williams. The veteran has always had talent, and he's gotten to showcase what he can do in spot duty for the Chiefs. Williams is a strong runner and a better-than-advertised receiver out of the backfield. Pencil him in as the no.2 back behind the oft-injured James Conner. That means he's a high-priority handcuff for Fantasy GMs or someone to put on your waiver wire speed dial in leagues without much bench space.

Cardinals | GM optimistic about Kyler Murray extension    Wed May 25, 04:12 PM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is looking for a new contract, and general manager Steve Keim said he is optimistic that the two sides will be able to reach an agreement on a long-term contract extension this summer.

Footballguys view: The Cardinals made quite a few moves, like trading for Murray's college teammate WR Marquise Brown and drafting TE Trey McBride to make their quarterback happy. What would really make him happy is a big-money deal. It sounds like Keim wants to do that, but deals get done at deadlines. Perhaps that's before the start of training camp later this summer.

Cardinals | Darrel Williams headed to Arizona    Tue May 24, 01:33 PM

Free-agent RB Darrel Williams (Chiefs) reportedly agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, May 24.

Footballguys view: Williams has good size and can grind down a defense between the tackles...kind of like Cardinals starter James Conner. We'll see if Williams can beat out rookie Keaontay Ingram for the no.2 spot on the depth chart.

Cardinals | Trey McBride financials    Mon May 23, 02:27 PM

Updating a previous report, second-round draft choice TE Trey McBride (Colorado State) signed a four-year contract worth $6.299 million - including a $1.761 million signing bonus - with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, May 17.

Footballguys view: McBride was the best tight end in the 2022 NFL draft. He's got some Chris Cooley to his game, and McBride can be used all over the formation as a receiver - in line, out wide, from the backfield. He's an effort blocker, but McBride is there to catch passes and move the chains. If he connects strongly with QB Kyler Murray, McBride could certainly be fantasy relevant as a TE2 with upside.

Cardinals | Kyler Murray won't attend OTAs    Mon May 23, 11:57 AM

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray won't be in attendance at organized team activities this week and there is no update on his contract situation, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Footballguys view: Voluntary workouts are voluntary for guys like Murray - especially in the midst of a contract dispute. He wants a big-money deal that makes him one of the highest-paid QBs in the league. The team wants to keep him and have made multiple moves this offseason to make Murray happy...but they haven't yet paid him that big-money contract. Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Murray should be present at mandatory minicamp early next month.

Cardinals | Rookie RB Ingram Could be No.2 Back    Sat May 21, 03:25 PM

Kevin Parrish Jr, from AZCardinals.com, reports Arizona Cardinals rookie RB Keaontay Ingram is a candidate to replace Chase Edmonds as the Cardinals' No.2 running back behind starter James Conner.

Footballguys view: Both Matt Waldman and Cecil Lammey had Ingram as a sleeper prospect in this draft class, and Ingram did put on a show for scouts during the week of practice for the East-West Shrine Bowl earlier this year. Ingram is built like Conner because he's a big back who can live between the tackles. He's also a better receiver out of the backfield than some think. We are certainly monitoring him in dynasty formats, and Fantasy GMs in redraft leagues with plenty of bench space could tag Ingram as the primary handcuff to Conner in 2022.

Cardinals | WR Brown Set to Be Among Highest Paid    Fri May 20, 03:52 PM

Jeff Howe, from The Athletic, believes Arizona Cardinals WR Marquise Brown is set to become one of the highest-paid players in the league at his position.

Footballguys view: Brown has a new team with an old teammate - his college QB Kyler Murray. If he stays healthy, Brown should be able to cash in with a big money deal. Coming off career-best numbers with the Ravens, Brown is looking to do even more this season. The Cardinals could offer Brown an extension at some point in the future because he deserves it and WR DeAndre Hopkins isn't getting any younger.

Cardinals | Keaontay Ingram could have fantasy relevance    Tue May 17, 11:26 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB Keaontay Ingram may have 'huge fantasy potential in 2022,' ESPN's Eric Moody speculated. 'Ingram replaces Chase Edmonds, who averaged 13.3 touches last year and signed with the Dolphins during the offseason. With his rushing and receiving skills, Ingram can help Arizona fill this void. James Conner was re-signed after a fantastic 2021 season, but Ingram may have huge fantasy potential in 2022 given Conner's injury history.'

Footballguys view: Eno Benjamin hasn't distinguished himself since Arizona took him in the seventh round two years ago, and he's Ingram's main competition for the backup role to James Conner, who hasn't made it through a season without missing at least two games. Ingram should be on your dynasty and redraft radar.

Cardinals | Arizona signs three rookies    Tue May 17, 07:50 PM

Arizona Cardinals second-round draft choice TE Trey McBride, seventh-round draft choice CB Christian Matthew and seventh-round draft choice OG Marquis Hayes signed four-year contracts with the Cardinals Tuesday, May 17. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: McBride is unlikely to make a fantasy impact early in his career with Zach Ertz likely starting for Arizona for at least the next two years, but he'll have a great model to learn from. He was the first tight end drafted last month, and he should be the first tight end taken in dynasty rookie drafts. McBride's ceiling isn't top 5, but he should level off as a fantasy TE1 eventually.

Free-agent WR Christian Blake (Falcons) and undrafted rookie free-agent S Tae Daley (Virginia Tech), QB Jared Guarantano (Washington State) and RB T.J. Pledger (Utah) signed undisclosed contracts with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, May 16.

Footballguys view: Pledger began his career in college with the Oklahoma Sooners where he was a backup to Rhamondre Stevenson. He transferred to Utah for one season and finished second on the team in rushing. Pledger is a compact back who runs with good contact balance. He's a good receiver out of the backfield but needs to be better in pass protection if he wants to carve out a backup role in the NFL. We'll monitor him in crazy deep dynasty formats.

Arizona Cardinals sixth-round draft choice RB Keaontay Ingram, sixth-round draft choice OG Lecitus Smith and seventh-round draft choice LB Jesse Luketa signed four-year contracts with the Cardinals Thursday, May 12. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Ingram was a Matt Waldman and Cecil Lammey favorite sleeper in this draft class. He reminds some in the scouting community of James Conner, so it makes sense the Cardinals would pick him up. The rookie runs with plenty of power and bad intentions for his opponent. He's highly competitive as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield.

Cardinals | Zach Ertz to play big role?    Wed May 11, 09:28 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Zach Ertz tied the franchise record for receptions by a tight end in 2021, logging 56 catches in 11 games with the team.

Footballguys view: Ertz is still capable of being a favorite target for QB Kyler Murray. However, he should lose snaps to rookie second-round pick Trey McBride. Before the draft, Ertz was a borderline TE1 for Fantasy GMs. Now, with McBride set for a large role, things are looking like a TEBC which is not beneficial from a fantasy perspective.

Cardinals | No timetable for Maxx Williams    Wed May 11, 07:14 PM

Arizona Cardinals TE Maxx Williams (knee) is making progress in his recovery but there is no timetable for when he will be back on the field, according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Footballguys view: Earlier this offseason, the Cardinals kept Williams around on a one-year deal. He's a good reserve tight end when healthy, but Williams has struggled to stay on the field during his pro career. With the selection of TE Trey McBride in the second round and with veteran Zach Ertz still catching passes, Williams won't be in line to do much other than block if/when he gets on the field.

Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins could be a cut candidate in 2023 if things don't go well for him once he returns from his six-game suspension, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer speculates.

Footballguys view: Never say never in the NFL, so this shocking headline could actually come to fruition. We doubt that happens, but again - never say never. Hopkins withdrew the appeal of his six-game suspension, so he will miss the first month and a half of the 2022 regular season. This will allow the newly acquired Marquise Brown to get a jump start on the season as the Cardinals no.1 receiver.

Footballguys view: Good thing the Cardinals traded for WR Marquise Brown during the 2022 NFL draft. He'll take over as the no.1 wide receiver and is already a favorite target of QB Kyler Murray as they were teammates in college. A.J. Green will be on the outside and Rondale Moore will be in the slot. Add in 2022 second-round pick TE Trey McBride and Murray will still have a surplus of weapons in the passing game.

Cardinals | Trey McBride joining Cardinals    Fri Apr 29, 08:52 PM

Colorado State TE Trey McBride was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the 55th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: The best tight end in this draft falls to the Cardinals in the second round. This gives QB Kyler Murray yet another weapon who can be moved around the formation. McBride is a tight end, wide receiver, H-back who has smooth acceleration and strong hands. He's also a good blocker, although that's not why the Cardinals picked him up. It's difficult for most rookie TEs to make the transition to the NFL, so we'll cautiously temper our expectations for McBride in 2022 as he gets used to the pro game. Think of former Washington TE Chris Cooley when you think of what McBride can be.

Footballguys view: This was part of the deal to get Brown. When the team traded for him they had a plan in place to keep him under contract for a bit longer.
