Jaguars | Jacksonville closing in on Liam Coen? Tue Jan 21, 03:38 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen is scheduled to have a second interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars regarding their head coaching vacancy on Wednesday, Jan. 22. There is speculation that the Jaguars feel strongly enough about Coen that he will be offered the job on Wednesday if the interview goes well.
Footballguys view: Coen, 39, just completed his first year with the Buccaneers, helping the club finish No. 3 in total yards and No. 4 in points en route to winning the NFC South. Profootballtalk.com notes that if the Jaguars hire Coen, it will be the second time in two years that a Bucs offensive coordinator is in the building for just one season before departing to be a head coach. Dave Canales was hired as the Panthers head coach last offseason after spending a year with Tampa Bay. Bucs head coach Todd Bowles has had Byron Leftwich, Canales, and Coen as his offensive coordinators in his three seasons at the helm. Tampa Bay Times staffer Rick Stroud also raises the possibility that the Bucs could offer Bowles a position in the front office and hire Coen to take his place, noting that the club effectively did so with Bruce Arians stepping down as head coach in March 2022 in favor of Bowles. Stay tuned. |
Jaguars | Brian Thomas Jr. joined rare group Thu Jan 16, 11:15 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. became just the fourth rookie in NFL history to finish with at least 1,200 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.
Footballguys view: Thomas did an amazing job in his rookie season, and he did that with an offense that was going through quarterback injuries. Imagine what he can do with a better head coach, better offense, and a healthy Trevor Lawrence. |
Jaguars | Todd Monken interviewing with Jaguars Thu Jan 16, 08:20 AM
Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken is interviewing for the Jacksonville Jaguars' head coaching vacancy Thursday, Jan. 16.
Footballguys view: The Jaguars could use a better offense moving forward, and they need to find someone who can get the best from QB Trevor Lawrence. Monken has worked well with QB Lamar Jackson to develop him as a passer and make him even more dangerous. |
Jaguars | Liam Coen interviews with Jaguars Wed Jan 15, 03:58 PM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen interviewed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for their head coach vacancy Wednesday, Jan. 15.
Footballguys view: Coen has done fantastic work with QB Baker Mayfield. He is going to be a head coach someday, and the Jaguars may decide to make him their guy. If hired, Coen would be tasked with getting the most from QB Trevor Lawrence. Like Mayfield, Lawrence is a talented former no.1 overall pick who could use some football rehab. |
Jaguars | Vikings DC Brian Flores To Interview With Jacksonville Tue Jan 14, 03:52 PM
Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores will interview for the Jaguars head coaching job on Friday, a source tells SI.com's Albert Breer. Flores also has interview requests from the Jets and Bears, with scheduling still to be worked on that.
Footballguys view: Flores, 43, has been with Minnesota for the last two seasons as defensive coordinator. Minnesota ranked No. 5 in points allowed and No. 16 in yards allowed in 2024. Flores was previously the Dolphins head coach from 2019-2021, compiling a 24-25 record as head coach with 10-6 and 9-8 records in his last two seasons. We'll continue to watch for more. |
Jaguars | Jacksonville meets with Robert Saleh Tue Jan 14, 01:19 PM
Green Bay Packers offensive consultant Robert Saleh completed an interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars regarding their head coaching vacancy on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Footballguys view: Saleh was hired by the Jets in 2021 and went 20-36 before being fired five games into the 2024 season. As Profootballtalk.com reported, he's also scheduled to interview for the Raiders as a head coach, and he interviewed with the 49ers for their defensive coordinator job. Saleh held that job with the 49ers before being hired by the Jets. Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo are the others who have interviewed with the Jaguars. |
Jaguars | Jacksonville seeks Steve Spagnuolo interview Thu Jan 9, 11:38 AM
Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was requested to interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars for their head coach vacancy Thursday, Jan. 9.
Footballguys view: There are now three teams to request an interview with Spagnuolo (Jaguars, Jets, Raiders). The former Rams head coach from 2009-2011 (also the Giants' interim head coach in 2017) has a career record of 11-41. |
Jaguars | Jacksonville Announces Full List Of Head Coaching Candidates Tue Jan 7, 11:08 AM
On Tuesday, the Jaguars announced a list of interview requests for their head coaching vacancy. It includes several previously reported names and a handful of new ones. The latter category includes former Jets head coach Robert Saleh.
Footballguys view: Saleh was fired five games into this season and has been working with the Packers for the last couple of months, which is why there's a need to request an interview. Saleh was 20-36 in three-plus seasons with the Jets. The other new names that the Jaguars shared are Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, and Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn are the other identified candidates. |

Jaguars | Aaron Glenn to meet with JAX Tue Jan 7, 09:51 AM
Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn will have a virtual interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching vacancy this week.
Footballguys view: According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Glenn will also be interviewed by the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, and Chicago Bears regarding their respective head coach openings. All of the interviews will be virtual, per NFL rules, and they reportedly will take place from Thursday through Saturday. Teams will have to wait until after the Lions are eliminated from the playoffs to offer Glenn a deal, but it's clear that he will have multiple options as he tries to transition to a head coach this offseason. The Jaguars will also interview Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen. |

Jaguars | Liam Coen to interview with JAX Tue Jan 7, 09:22 AM
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen was requested for an interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching vacancy.
Footballguys view: This is the first time Coen's name has come up in a head coaching search this week. Coen replaced Dave Canales as the coordinator in Tampa when Canales became the Panthers' head coach in 2024. The Bucs finished fourth in the league in points and third in yards on the way to winning the NFC South. With the Bucs playing the Commanders this week, Coen cannot sit for any interviews until next week. The Jaguars have also set up an interview with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and requested one with Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. |

Jaguars | Jacksonville eyeing offensive HC Mon Jan 6, 03:50 PM
The Jacksonville Jaguars are considering hiring a candidate with offensive creativity to fill their head coaching vacancy, according to sources Monday, Jan. 6. Among the candidates include Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen and Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady.
Footballguys view: It makes sense. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is locked in through 2030, and there are other key building blocks on offense in rookie receiver Brian Thomas Jr. and left tackle Walker Little. The AFC South isn't exactly a tough division, either, so there's a potentially quicker path back to the playoffs, provided the new staff can get Lawrence to play at a consistently high level. We'll see if they find the right offensive-minded coach this time around. |
Jaguars | Trent Baalke staying put Mon Jan 6, 09:03 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke will return in 2025.
Footballguys view: Team owner Shad Khan opted not to make a clean sweep, so will the new coach be willing to work with general manager Trent Baalke, who is entering the final year of his contract? Many observers have speculated that Baalke's presence has been a limiting factor in past coaching searches, and it may also be this time. |
Jaguars | Doug Pederson fired Mon Jan 6, 08:23 AM
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson was fired Monday, Jan. 6.
Footballguys view: Though Pederson's tenure with the Jaguars lasted three full seasons, Monday's firing was a move anticipated for nearly two months. He ends time in Jacksonville with a 22-29 record, having posted 9-8 marks in his first two seasons with an AFC South title and playoff win in 2022. Since 2012, when Shad Khan became owner of the Jaguars, the franchise has gone through five head coaches, including Pederson, and reached the playoffs just twice. They'll now look to reset -- except with GM Trent Baalke remaining in place as he heads into the final year of his contract. Some believe Baalke's presence was a limiting factor in their most recent coaching search. For the Jaguars, though, it's a familiar situation of starting all over again. |
Jaguars | Josh Reynolds quiet in Week 18 Sun Jan 5, 05:17 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Josh Reynolds caught one pass for 11 yards against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 18. He was targeted three times during the game.

Jaguars | Parker Washington catches TD pass Sun Jan 5, 05:15 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Parker Washington caught two passes for 15 yards and one touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 18. He was targeted four times during the game.
Footballguys view: Washington has had an extended audition in place of Christian Kirk, who is due $15.5 million. Based on Washington's sporadic contributions, the Jaguars new regime would be best off sticking with Kirk for another year despite the high price tag. |

Jaguars | Brenton Strange catches four passes Sun Jan 5, 05:09 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars TE Brenton Strange caught four passes for 60 yards against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 18. He was targeted four times during the game.
Footballguys view: Strange was marginalized for the last game and a half after a fumble, but earned more opportunity this week. He should be carried through the offseason in tight end premium dynasty leagues at least, and maybe even PPR dynasty with his intermittent success replacing Evan Engram and a new regime coming to town. |

Jaguars | Another 100-yard game for Brian Thomas Sun Jan 5, 05:06 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. caught seven passes for 103 yards against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 18. He also targeted 11 times during the game.
Footballguys view: Thomas was one of the best picks in fantasy drafts this year as a 6th/7th round selection, who delivered first round value. That's where you'll need to take him if you want Thomas on your fantasy team next season. |
Jaguars | D'Ernest Johnson posts 26 yards Sun Jan 5, 05:04 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars RB D'Ernest Johnson rushed for 26 yards on two carries against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 18.

Jaguars | Travis Etienne involved in run, pass game Sun Jan 5, 05:02 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne rushed for 31 yards on 13 carries against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 18. He also caught three passes for 29 yards during the game.
Footballguys view: The dream of Etienne becoming a fantasy RB1 and featured back is probably over after a mediocre season. The Jaguars are on the hook for $6 million and change after picking up his fifth year option, but the new coaching staff will be open to a different model than the committee Etienne led this season. |

Jaguars | Tank Bigsby finds end zone Sun Jan 5, 05:01 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Tank Bigsby rushed for 39 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 18. He also caught one pass for three yards during the game.
Footballguys view: Bigsby had some moments this year and erased the memory of so many failures in his rookie year. The Jaguars picked up Travis Etienne's fifth year option, so this will be a split backfield again next season, but Bigsby appears to be the better runner. Both backs will be trying to earn the trust of a new coaching staff next year. |

Jaguars | Mac Jones throws for 225 yards Sun Jan 5, 04:55 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Mac Jones went 20-for-32 for 225 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 18. He also rushed for 17 yards on five carries during the game.
Footballguys view: Jones played poorly in his first stint as the starter for the Jaguars, but rehabilitated his stock in his second stint, mainly by throwing to Brian Thomas Jr. He'll be a free agent next year and should draw interest as a competent backup who was at least in part brought down by bad offensive coaches in New England. |

Jaguars | Brian Thomas Jr. continues strong rookie play Sun Dec 29, 05:03 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. caught seven of 10 targets for 91 yards and a touchdown vs. the Tennessee Titans in Week 17 on Sunday, Dec. 29. He added 18 yards on his lone rushing attempt.
Footballguys view: Thomas has finished the season on a fantasy championship winning tear with Mac Jones as his quarterback. He'll make Trevor Lawrence a better fantasy pick next year and make the job of whoever the Jaguars hire to run the offense this offseason easier. It ends up the big three first round wide receivers in this year's draft was really a big four, and Thomas could end up being the best of them all when the dust settles. |

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne rushed 15 times for 49 yards and caught a 26-yard pass vs. the Tennessee Titans in Week 17 on Sunday, Dec. 29. He was targeted twice.
Footballguys view: Etienne finished the year as the #1 back in Jacksonville, but as a lead back in a committee, not a clear lead back. He was drafted as a potential breakout back, but instead wasn't really better than Tank Bigsby. It's possible that Etienne's dynasty value has already peaked going into his fifth year option season. |
