Jaguars | RBs Coach Has High Hopes For Tank Bigsby    Mon Jul 8, 03:15 PM

RBs coach Jerry Mack sees Tank Bigsby as a player who can see drastic improvement entering Year 2. "He [had] an opportunity to kind of sit back last year, see exactly what this league is all about," Mack said this offseason, via The Florida Times-Union. "And he's been great so far this offseason, just the way he's attacked every single day."

Footballguys view: The Jaguars drafted Bigsby in the third round last year to lighten Travis Etienne's load. That didn't happen. Etienne rushed 267 times last season, with Bigsby next on the list with 50 carries for 132 yards and two touchdowns. By the end of the season, Bigsby was essentially out of the rotation, and it took a shutout demolition of Carolina in Week 17 for him to get 20 percent of his season carries (10). However, Mack believes that an entire offseason has allowed Bigsby to become a more confident player better immersed in the offense. While the Jaguars are hoping for more this year, fantasy managers shouldn't invest draft capital in their hope.

Jaguars | Evan Engram eyeing more work down the field    Fri Jul 5, 01:18 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Evan Engram believed his role with the team so far has been as a 'security blanket' and sees 2024 as a chance to make 'more explosive plays' and become a 'bigger red zone target.''My role was underneath being the security blanket for Trevor (Lawrence) underneath and getting the ball in my hands fast, (yards after the catch), getting up field and moving the chains. I've done that really well and I think the next level for me is to improve that intermediate, deep range... 'Making more explosive plays, downfield, more touchdowns, being a bigger red zone target. Those are my goals. I think that can take it to a whole other level,' Engram told ESPN.com's Michael DiRocco.

Footballguys view: Engram's career yards-per-catch average is 10.1 but last year the security blanket role held that number to just 8.4 YPC. As Lawrence continues to improve, Engram could stretch the field to open things up for other receivers. With more targets down the field, Engram could see fewer catches than the 114 he had in 2023. However, he still projects as a top-10 fantasy tight end with the potential to end the season in the top-5 at his position.

Jaguars | Brian Thomas Jr. off to quick start    Sun Jun 30, 03:08 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. made a 'positive impression' during OTAs, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars released Zay Jones after the draft, opening up more snaps for Thomas and free agent addition Gabe Davis. We'll be watching the camp reports to see if it sounds like Thomas will be the primary deep threat. The rookie is going multiple rounds ahead of Davis, and he certainly has a higher ceiling, but Davis may be more ready to contribute this season.

Jaguars | Coaches Say Parker Washington Making Strides This Offseason    Mon Jun 24, 05:26 PM

When receiver and top target Christian Kirk was injured last season, Parker Washington was thrust into a role he wasn't ready for as a rookie. Offensive coordinator Press Taylor said he saw a huge difference in Washington this spring, most notably in his confidence. "[He's] not worried every time he breaks the huddle about what I'm doing, where is my stance, how does this route change?" Taylor said. "He's heard it a hundred times. So we give a play call, we give a route, we move him around. He knows the expectations of that particular player in that particular concept and so now you just see the skill set start to come out."

Footballguys view: Washington caught 16 passes for 132 yards and two TDs after Kirk's injury last season, but the rookie dealt with a knee injury and struggled with his knowledge of the offense. He's now healthy and, based on Taylor's comments, better acclimated to the offense. The Jaguars lost Calvin Ridley and Zay Jones in free agency this offseason. They added Brian Thomas Jr. in the first round of April's draft and signed former Bill Gabe Davis in March. So there will be plenty of competition, but those in deep Dynasty leagues will want to keep an eye on Washington this summer.

Jaguars | Tank Bigsby struggling?    Sun Jun 23, 10:55 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Tank Bigsby 'had some issues with drops' during spring practices, according to John Shipley of SI.com.

Footballguys view: While Travis Etienne Jr. will remain the Jaguars' lead back in 2024, coaches have maintained Bigsby needs to be more involved. "We've talked about this too as a staff and myself, making sure [Bigsby] gets opportunities to get out there and take some of the pounding off of Travis," head coach Doug Pederson said during OTAs. It sounds like Bigsby has some work to do to put himself in a position to take full advantage of his opportunity.

Jaguars | Evan Engram hungry for more    Sat Jun 22, 09:16 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Evan Engram said he wants to become more than just an underneath target this season. 'Making more explosive plays, downfield, more touchdowns, being a bigger red zone target,' Engram said. 'Those are my goals. I think that can take it to a whole other level.'

Footballguys view: Engram has been a reliable short and intermediate target for Trevor Lawrence. If he can add more downfield and red zone production, he'll be one of the best values at tight end this year. Whether free agent addition Gabe Davis and first round pick Brian Thomas can replace Calvin Ridley will be one of the biggest factors in answering whether Engram's role in the pass offense will grow significantly. Engram is going outside of the top seven tight ends this year despite finishing in the top five last year.

Jaguars | Denzel Mims officially on board    Thu Jun 20, 02:42 PM

Updating a previous report, free-agent Denzel Mims (Steelers) signed an undisclosed contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, June 20. WR Kyric McGowan was waived to make room for him on the roster.

Footballguys view: The 2020 second round pick has enough physical talent to keep getting chances to impress and stick. He's not that different from Gabe Davis in his strengths and style of play, so it makes sense that the Jaguars would be interested. The odds are still against him making the final roster. He's going to turn 27 during the season, so Mims doesn't have a lot of latent upside left to tap in his career arc.

Jaguars | Brian Thomas Jr. Picking Up Offense Quickly    Tue Jun 18, 04:25 PM

QB Trevor Lawrence said he was impressed with how quickly rookie receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has picked up the offense, and offensive coordinator Press Taylor echoed that, but added that he'd like the former LSU standout to speak a little more. "He's not a big talker. So you're not always sure, you're searching for feedback," Taylor said. "Are you picking up what we're saying? So far it's always translated over the field pretty good. So he's getting it in some way, shape or form. We want more out of him communication-wise just so we know what he's thinking. Does this make sense to you? How do you relate this? For the most part, he kind of nods and looks at you and goes out on the field and does it right. So that's encouraging."

Footballguys view: As SI.com's John Shipley recently suggested, Thomas is looking to be the next in a long line of LSU wide receivers set to make an instant impact in the NFL. Thomas starred for the Tigers in 2023, catching 68 passes for 1,177 yards and 17 touchdowns. Thomas and LSU teammate Malik Nabers, taken by the Giants, were the fourth and second receivers selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. It's fair to say Thomas gets a better quarterback in Jacksonville than Nabers does in New York. In addition, with Calvin Ridley and Zay Jones both moving on as free agents, Thomas will get ample opportunity to earn a legitimate role this season.

Jaguars | Trevor Lawrence receives extension    Fri Jun 14, 12:11 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension with the Jaguars Thursday, June 13, worth $275 million. The deal includes $200 million in guaranteed money.

Footballguys view: Lawrence moves to the top of the quarterback contract list in per year compensation. Where quarterbacks fit in on the pay scale is more a function of when they sign their extensions that where they fit in the quarterback rankings. The Jaguars are hopeful that Lawrence's best football is ahead of him, and they are probably right.

According to head coach Doug Pederson, Savage is on track to participate fully in training camp next month.'He's getting a lot stronger. Getting more reps with the defense.   Jaguars | Brian Thomas Jr. under contract    Sat Jun 8, 03:08 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars first-round draft choice WR Brian Thomas Jr. (Louisiana State) signed a four-year contract on Friday, June 7. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed, but the contract includes a fifth-year team option.

Footballguys view: With the release of Zay Jones, Thomas is in line for a big role as a rookie in an offense that runs a lot of three wide receiver sets. Thomas is going well ahead of Gabe Davis, who should also play outside receiver, and even ahead of Evan Engram, who should be in the top two on the team in targets. The hope is that Thomas's speed and size improves the Jaguars vertical passing game, so he can still make good on that lofty ADP, but he is being drafted closer to his ceiling than his floor.

Jaguars | Gabe Davis should be fine for camp    Thu Jun 6, 12:33 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Gabe Davis (knee) should be available for the start of the training camp, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Davis is a quality player when healthy, but it seems like he's banged up quite a bit throughout his career. He's big, strong and fast, so the Jaguars can use him as the replacement for Calvin Ridley in their offense. Davis is going off the board in the WR4/WR5 range, but there's a chance for him to produce like a weekly flex play...again...if he can stay healthy.

Jaguars | Gabe Davis works with QB    Mon Jun 3, 08:40 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Gabe Davis worked with QB Trevor Lawrence during the voluntary workout Monday, June because they work on their timing.

Jaguars | Coach happy with Evan Engram     Mon Jun 3, 08:38 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Evan Engram has been impressive during offseason workouts, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: That Engram is already garnering strong reviews is great, but it's also no surprise. He's been a front-line fantasy asset since his arrival in Jacksonville. Engram finished as TE2 in 2023 after a TE5 performance in his first season with the team. Volume has been a major factor in his success. Engram drew 98 targets in 2022 and a league-high (for the position) 143 targets last year. According to PlayerProfiler.com, Jacksonville has the fifth-most vacated targets in the NFL. Even if Engram doesn't duplicate last year's 23.8 percent target share, expecting top-10 production is more than reasonable.

Jaguars | Travis Etienne may see less work    Fri May 24, 02:15 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne may have his workload reduce a bit this upcoming season because head coach Doug Pederson said the team wants to keep Etienne healthy throughout the season.

Footballguys view: After back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons on the ground, it's hard to imagine Jacksonville going away from the big-play ability of Etienne. Perhaps he catches 40 passes instead of the 58 he did last season. Etienne is getting drafted as a top-5 fantasy running back and should finish in the top-10 at least.

Jaguars | Christian Kirk on track    Mon May 20, 07:33 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Christian Kirk (core) is on track in his recovery from a core muscle injury and has been able to participate in offseason workouts, according to head coach Doug Pederson.

Footballguys view: Kirk led the Jaguars in receiving yardage when he went down during the 2023 season, with 787. He played through a right abdominal tear between Weeks 6-13 before tearing his left abductor in Week 13. He finished the year on injured reserve. In 2022, his first with Jacksonville, Kirk led the team with 84 receptions for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns. His presence will be important this year. The team added first-round selection Brian Thomas Jr. and free agent Gabe Davis, while 2023 starters Calvin Ridley and Zay Jones left via free agency and release, respectively. Kirk, who finished as WR12 in 2022, is our WR32.
