Jaguars | New staff believes in James Robinson    Tue Jun 21, 01:18 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB James Robinson (Achilles) was called a 'three-down back' by head coach Doug Pederson back in March, according to SI.com's John Shipley.

Footballguys view: Everyone should believe in Robinson. Undrafted out of Illinois State in 2020, Robinson rushed for over 1,000 yards as a rookie. He was on his way to doing that again in 2021 before an Achilles' injury ended his season. Robinson is not expected to be ready for the start of training camp, and we could see him miss (or be very limited) a bit of time at the beginning of the regular season. 2021 first-round pick Travis Etienne will be the lead back until Robinson is feeling more like himself.

Jaguars | Jamal Agnew happy with rehab    Tue Jun 21, 01:07 PM

Jaguars | Laviska Shenault looks faster    Tue Jun 21, 08:33 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Laviska Shenault Jr. looks faster, according to QB Trevor Lawrence. 'He looks a lot faster,' Lawrence said. 'He's just going to be that guy when you get the ball in his hands, he's going to make the play. I think he's made as big improvement since last season and he's really been attacking it. I think it's showing on the practice field.'

Footballguys view: Shenault is working to impress the new coaching staff. He's a talented player who could be used like a Cordarrell Patterson but has yet to stay healthy and produce in a couple of pro seasons. Shenault is even working on special teams as a return man to improve his chances of earning more playing time. We like him in deep dynasty because of his natural talent, but it might take a fresh start with a different team for Shenault to jump-start his career.

Jaguars | Starting RT spot up for grabs?    Mon Jun 20, 01:08 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars OTs Jawaan Taylor and Walker Little are expected to engage in what may be the 'most competitive battle in camp' for the starting right tackle spot, according to John Reid of the Florida Times-Union.

Jaguars | James Robinson unlikely to be ready for camp?    Mon Jun 20, 11:24 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB James Robinson (Achilles) is 'not likely' to be ready for training camp, John Reid of the Florida Times-Union reported on Friday, June 17. 'Etienne returning to full speed has a special significance considering starting running back James Robinson continues to rehab from a torn Achilles' tendon and is not likely to be ready for next month's training camp,' Reid wrote.

Footballguys view: No surprise here, and we should see Robinson begin camp on the PUP list. Robinson refused to give a timetable for his return to the field but has returned to running on the practice field this month (although not at full speed). The Jaguars should ease him into action in the month of August.

Jaguars | James Robinson declines to give timetable    Sat Jun 18, 02:26 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB James Robinson (Achilles) refused to give a timetable for his return to the field from a torn Achilles' tendon suffered in 2021. 'When I'm ready, I'll be ready. You guys know,' he said on Wednesday, June 15.

Footballguys view: Jaguars new head coach Doug Pederson has previously stated Robinson could be ready for training camp, but let's just wait and see. Travis Etienne, a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, is there to be the lead back and when healthy Robinson will be worked into the offense. Robinson began running on the practice field earlier this month, but he's yet to be cleared to run at full speed. We imagine the Jaguars put him on the PUP list to start camp and then ease him into action come August.

Jaguars | Laviska Shenault putting in extra work    Mon Jun 13, 11:59 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Laviska Shenault Jr. is in attendance for voluntary workouts on Monday, June 13. The Jags were scheduled to have mandatory minicamp this week but head coach Doug Pederson cancelled it to reward veteran players and is instead opting for voluntary workouts.

Footballguys view: Shenault has to put the extra work in for many reasons. First, it's a new staff and he's got to impress them with his skill and work ethic. Second, (just like in college) Shenault flashes talent but is oft-injured and misses time due to various injuries. Finally, Shenault is buried on the depth chart and is even working as a return man to try and make his way onto the 53-man roster - which is not a guaranteed spot for him.

Jaguars | Jacksonville OC raves about Travis Etienne    Sun Jun 12, 12:46 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne received high praise from offensive coordinator Press Taylor, who raved about Etienne's ability to grasp everything they're throwing at him. 'We're throwing him in all different positions just to see what he's comfortable with, what he needs to work on as we move forward, give him plans moving further into summer coming back for training camp. But he's been really receptive to everything. He's shown an ability to grasp a lot of different things and show that he's capable of doing things,' Taylor said.

Footballguys view: Etienne could be the clear starting back if James Robinson isn't ready for Week 1 after suffering a late season achilles tear. Etienne will definitely be used a lot in the passing game, but Robinson will be difficult to hold off once healthy. Etienne will cost a third round pick in many high stakes leagues, so be prepared to pay up if you want him.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB C.J. Beathard (undisclosed) was carted off the practice field at organized team activities on Monday, June 6, with an undisclosed injury.

Footballguys view: Jake Luton, who started three games for the Jaguars as a rookie in 2020, signed with the team this offseason after spending time on the Dolphins and Seahawks practice squads last year. He's in line to be the backup if Beathard's season is over, with UDFA E.J. Perry also in the mix. The Jaguars could look to sign a veteran free agent if the injury is serious.

Jaguars | James Robinson resumes running    Fri Jun 3, 11:06 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB James Robinson (Achilles) has resumed running on the field as he continues his rehab, according to his representation.

Footballguys view: Robinson was shut down in 2021 late in the season due to this Achilles injury. He was injured last December, but the team has insisted that he'll be ready for the start of the regular season. We should see him worked into the mix at some point during training camp and the preseason, although Robinson should be limited. Second-year RB Travis Etienne has looked fantastic this offseason after missing his entire rookie year in 2021. When healthy, Robinson will work in tandem with Etienne as the Jaguars look to jump start their offense under new head coach Doug Pederson.

Jaguars | Laviska Shenault Jr. buried on depth chart    Thu Jun 2, 10:41 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Laviska Shenault Jr. has at least three wide receivers ahead of him in the pecking order, and he has been returning punts.

Footballguys view: Shenault has done little during his time in the NFL. The former second-round pick has talent, but the Jaguars have not yet known how to use him properly..and he's struggled with injuries - something that plagued him in college at the University of Colorado. Dynasty GMs might have to wait for Shenault to get with another team in order for him to get a fresh start. He's returning punts and doesn't look natural doing it yet. This is a sign that it's make-or-break for Shenault (with the Jaguars) in 2022.

Jaguars | Trevor Lawrence taking step forward    Thu Jun 2, 10:34 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence looks more confident and decisive when delivering the ball, especially in tight windows.

Footballguys view: Lawrence was seen as a generational talent in college at Clemson. He was a no-brainer no.1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, and the Jaguars may have the franchise quarterback they've been looking for. However, Lawrence did not look good as a rookie. Many rookie QBs (most of them) don't, but Lawrence looked bad - and painfully mediocre with only some late-season flashes of his ability. We're excited to see him take that next step.

Jaguars | Travis Etienne wowing    Thu Jun 2, 10:34 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne (foot) looked like his old self in pass-catching drills this week, according to SI.com's John Shipley. His explosion and ability to quickly cut and make breaks stood out during pass-catching drills. He ran one drag route and extended for a catch from QB Trevor Lawrence that showed he still has the best pure speed and home-run ability before and after the catch of any player on the offense.

Footballguys view: You're listening for drumbeats during the offseason, and the news has all been positive when it comes to Etienne. A foot injury knocked him out of his entire rookie season, and now Etienne is fully healthy and ready to showcase his ability. Etienne can work as a running back, but the Jaguars have also been moving him around the formation - out wide and in the slot. He's a RB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs this season, and he could be one of the most exciting players at any position in 2022.

Jaguars | Travis Etienne open to Deebo-like role    Wed Jun 1, 02:52 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne is open to having a role similar to the one San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel had in 2021. 'Football is all about matchups, so I mean if I could be like Deebo Samuel, I would love that,' Etienne stated.

Footballguys view: Etienne certainly has a ton of speed and can make defenders look silly in the open field. He's not as powerful a runner as Samuel, but he's fast and has the ability to create his own space. Etienne is a running back, but he also can line up in the slot or out wide. After missing his entire rookie season in 2021, we're excited to see what the former Clemson star can do at the pro level...no matter where he lines up.

Jaguars | WR Shenault to Help as a Returner    Wed Jun 1, 12:17 PM

Jamal St. Cyr, sports anchor for WJXT4, reports Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson says WR Laviska Shenault can help the team in the return game.

Footballguys view: Shenault has done little in a couple of pro seasons. He's kind of like Cordarrelle Patterson and might be better used as a running back/receiver than he has been to this point. The Jaguars are going to try and get something out of him as a return man, but he doesn't yet look natural doing that. Shenault might never be what he could have been, or he might have to wait until his second team before his natural talent starts to emerge.

Jaguars | Jamal Agnew might not be ready    Tue May 31, 10:55 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jamal Agnew (hip) might not be ready for the start of the season.

Jaguars | Devin Lloyd terms    Fri May 27, 12:52 PM

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars first-round pick LB Devin Lloyd's four-year deal was worth $12.9 million with a $6.5 million signing bonus. It also includes a fifth-year option.

Footballguys view: The Jaguars wanted Lloyd enough to move back into the first round to get him. Many had him going in the top 15 picks as the first off-ball linebacker off of the board, but the Packers took Georgia's Quay Walker before Lloyd went off of the board. He can drop into coverage, rush the passer, and handle run defense duties with nearly early aplomb and should be a centerpiece of the defense.

Jaguars | Chad Muma terms    Fri May 27, 12:49 PM

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars third-round pick LB Chad Muma received a four-year, $5.4 million deal.

Footballguys view: Muma was a favorite of a lot of draft analysts after taking over for current Bengal Logan Wilson on the Wyoming defense. He'll likely be relegated a less fantasy-friendly role than Devin Lloyd or Foye Oluokun, but Muma could be an IDP breakout player if injuries or Lloyd's versatility to rush the passer gets the third off ball linebacker on the field more often.

Jaguars | Drops an issue for Evan Engram     Wed May 25, 10:23 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Evan Engram's 23 drops over the last five seasons are the most among tight ends in that span.

Footballguys view: Engram has certainly flashed in his pro career with the Giants, but the inconsistencies and injuries were too much (as were the offensive inefficiency by that team). He gets a fresh start this year with the Jaguars as he's trying to become a favorite target for QB Trevor Lawrence. He was the no.5 fantasy tight end as a rookie in 2017, but it's been all downhill for Engram ever since. Engram is firmly a TE2 for Fantasy GMs this season, but the upside is there for him to be a TE1 in this offense...if he stays healthy and cuts down on the drops.

Jaguars | Trevor Lawrence praises Christian Kirk    Tue May 24, 10:05 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Christian Kirk and QB Trevor Lawrence have developed a good relationship early on, Lawrence recently stated. '[Kirk is] really talented and we get along really well. Like I said, [we have] similar personalities and demeanors,' Lawrence said. 'He's great. Just from a football IQ sense, I think he's really quarterback friendly.'

Footballguys view: The Jaguars paid a lot of money to get Kirk (four years, 'up to' $84 million), so GM Trent Baalke must be channeling his inner Grand Moff Tarkin "This had better work." (Sorry, we just watched A New Hope for the 1000th time). Kirk posted career-best numbers in 2021 with the Cardinals, but in the Jaguars offense his numbers might not match what he did last season. He's got flex appeal in most formats.

Jaguars | No limitations for Travis Etienne    Mon May 23, 01:31 PM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne (foot) has been cleared to be a full-go for all practice activity as the team begins its offseason program, according to head coach Doug Pederson on Monday, May 23.

Footballguys view: Good news for Etienne here. We missed him all of his rookie season due to this foot injury. Now, he's back and the top player in the Jaguars backfield with RB James Robinson coming back from a late-season Achilles' injury. Etienne could get a large workload as the featured runner, and he's got speed to be a dangerous receiver out of the backfield. This makes him a RB2/RB3 with upside player for Fantasy GMs this season.

Jaguars | Travis Etienne cleared for practice    Mon May 23, 11:18 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne (foot) has been fully cleared for practice after recovering from a Lisfranc injury, head coach Doug Pederson said on Monday, May 23.

Footballguys view: Good news for the young back here. We didn't get to see him as a rookie due to this foot injury, and everyone around the team is excited to see what he can do in the pros. Etienne is certainly fast, and he can eat up chunk yards quickly as a runner in space or receiver out of the backfield. With James Robinson working his way back from a late-season Achilles' injury, Etienne should be the featured back to begin 2022. With a heavy workload and his natural skill, Etienne has RB2/RB3 with upside written all over him for Fantasy GMs this season.

Jaguars | Travon Walker adjusting to OLB    Wed May 18, 09:40 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars No. 1 overall pick DE Travon Walker is extensively working at outside linebacker in minicamps. 'Just strictly working on outside linebacker things in practice I feel like I'm truly getting more comfortable with the position,' Walker said. 'There's always room for improvement. At Georgia we ran a lot of techniques, but once I got here, [I had to] break down a lot of those techniques that I learned at Georgia, and focus on that one thing. I (dropped into coverage) at Georgia, so I'm kind of used to it. But now, I'm working on it a lot more getting into seven-on-seven, so I'll get a lot more comfortable with dropping instead of just dropping every now and then.'

Footballguys view: There's good reason to think Walker can adjust to outside linebacker, but it's not that often that a team takes a player #1 overall to play a different role that he did in college. Walker was more of a high ceiling projection than #2 pick Aidan Hutchinson, who was a high floor complete all-around end. With Walker and "the other" Josh Allen, the Jaguars could sport the best edge duo in the league sooner than later.

Jacksonville Jaguars fifth-round draft choice RB Snoop Conner, sixth-round draft choice CB Gregory Junior and seventh-round draft choice CB Montaric Brown signed four-year contracts with the Jaguars Thursday, May 12. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Footballguys view: Conner is a big back with three-down ability. He comes into the league with just a little over 300 carries in college at Ole Miss, so there's plenty of tread left on his tires. Conner runs with vision, balance and toughness - so he's got the ability to start in the NFL. He'll begin his career as a backup with the Jaguars, but Conner could be an important player down the stretch if backs in front of him on the depth chart get hurt.

Perry agreed to a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles over the weekend while they waited to hear back from QB Carson Strong. Strong eventually agreed to his deal, and Perry headed to Jacksonville.

Footballguys view: Perry is an athletic quarterback who transferred from Boston College to Brown. He's got an average arm at best, and Perry is known to make poor decisions as a passer when under duress. He's hoping to latch on as a practice squad/camp arm type of quarterback with the Jaguars.
