Giants | Coaching changes hurting Daniel Jones? Sat Jun 25, 03:35 PM
New York Giants QB Daniel Jones' progress has been hindered by multiple coaching changes, retired QB Eli Manning said of his former teammate. 'By my fifth year, I had been in the same offense the whole time, I knew it, I could coach it up, new guys are coming in, I was speaking the same language as my offensive coordinator and as [former head coach Tom] Coughlin, and kind of preaching the same stuff,' Manning said. 'And with [Jones], it's all new, and it's learning, and he's consistently trying to learn and learn and learn, and it just takes some time before it all sinks in.'
Footballguys view: Jones has not performed up to expectations, but the former coaching staffs he's worked under have pretty much been awful. That's no longer the case with new head coach Brian Daboll. He will implement a system that plays to the strengths of his quarterback, so Jones should look better this season. He still may not be the long-term answer for the Giants and has little time to get up to speed. There is no doubt that Jones is in a make-or-break year in 2022. |

New York Giants DE Kayvon Thibodeaux (hip) missed some practice time this offseason because of a hip injury, according to a source. He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Link to storyNew York Giants DE Kayvon Thibodeaux (undisclosed) missed a majority of the offseason workouts because of an undisclosed injury but received work with the first-team defense when he was on the field, according to ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan.

New York Giants second-round pick WR Wan'Dale Robinson could have a big role in the offense, perhaps as a gadget player, even if he doesn't start initially.
Footballguys view: The Giants traded down twice before taking Robinson, a sign that they knew they would value him more than other teams, maybe because they didn't discount him much for only being 5'8" 178. This could affect the value of Kadarius Toney and Sterling Shepard as the new regime tries to figure out who fits best in the new offense. Keep Robinson on your waiver wire watch list in redraft, and be willing to take him in the late second or later in your dynasty rookie drafts. |
Zack Rosenblatt, from NJ.com, reports New York Giants undrafted rookie tight end Austin Allen was getting as many first-team reps as Ricky Seals-Jones.
Footballguys view: Allen played his college ball at Nebraska, and he's one of those players who could be a better pro than he was a collegian. He's huge, measuring in at 6-feet, 7-inches and is a natural contested catch winner due to that size. He's got big play ability, snaring five passes of over 30 yards as a senior with the Cornhuskers. We'll see if he can continue to impress and push for playing time if he makes the 53-man roster. Deep dynasty GMs need to keep an eye on him. |

Zack Rosenblatt, from NJ.com, reports New York Giants WR Travis Toivonen was getting reps with both the first and second-team offenses and took advantage of his opportunities.
Footballguys view: Last December, the Giants signed Toivonen to their practice squad as a developmental player. He went undrafted out of North Dakota in 2020 and spent time in the Fan Controlled Football League and with the Seattle Seahawks before landing with the Giants. We'll monitor him in crazy deep dynasty formats. |
Zack Rosenblatt, from NJ.com, reports New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley is being moved around the formation at OTAs and minicamp. Per the article, Barkley was lining up as a receiver -- both in the slot and outside -- frequently throughout drills, and moved around a lot in pre-snap motion too.
Footballguys view: This has been a consistent offseason drumbeat - the Giants are going to use Barkley as much as they can - and he's certainly going to be used frequently as a receiver. Not just a receiver out of the backfield, Barkley is going to run routes from the slot and out wide. He's talented and if healthy could be a nice value pick for your fantasy teams in the third round. |

Zack Rosenblatt, from NJ.com, reports New York Giants WR Darius Slayton could be a candidate to be released.
Footballguys view: Slayton has speed but he's got to impress the new coaching staff if he wants to make the 53-man roster as a reserve receiver in 2022. Cutting Slayton would free up around $2.5 million in cap space - something the Giants desperately need. According to this report, Slayton struggled to catch passes and rarely worked with the top unit. Things are not trending in the right direction for the speedy veteran. |

New York Giants TE Ricky Seals-Jones was often running with the third-stringers during spring practices while rookie Daniel Bellinger 'seems locked in as the starter,' in the opinion of NJ.com's Zack Rosenblatt.

New York Giants WR Darius Slayton rarely worked with the first-team offense in live drills during spring practices and generally struggled to catch passes, in the opinion of NJ.com's Zack Rosenblatt. Per Rosenblatt, the Giants would save $2.54 million by releasing or trading him.

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley says he feels 'a lot better than I felt at this point last year. My body feels good. I'm trusting my knee again.'
Footballguys view: Barkley hasn't looked like his old self for some time. Since his 2020 ACL injury, Barkley is not the same player he was in his first two seasons (especially his rookie season). Now that he's feeling better perhaps Barkley will start playing up to his potential in what should be his final season with the Giants. He's in a much better offense with new head coach Brian Daboll, so Barkley could be a fantastic value pick in the third round of your fantasy draft. |

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones (neck) is cleared for contact, according to head coach Brian Daboll on Tuesday, June 7.
Footballguys view: Jones is in a much better offense under Daboll. This system should bring the best out of him...or at least it better or the Giants will be moving on from Jones next season. We'll see if Jones can play up to his potential and show the rushing and passing ability that made him a top-10 pick a few years ago. |

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones is 'the hardest-working quarterback I've been around' and 'probably the smartest quarterback I have been around,' according to teammate Davis Webb. 'He has really good questions in meetings, takes really good notes, he's always looking to improve, weight room, practice field, meeting room, he's just all in, and it's fun to have a teammate like that. Cares that much and brings the most out of his teammates. He's a dang good football player. I think he's (going to) have his best year,' Webb told the New York Post.
Footballguys view: Praise from your teammates is good, but we're not going to go overboard here. Everyone knows it is now or never for Jones in his Giants career. New Giants coach Brian Daboll has reiterated his desire for Jones to "cut it loose" in 2022. While Jones needs to play with more boldness, he also needs to be safe with the football. |

New York Giants OT Andrew Thomas (undisclosed) was limited to individual drills during practice Thursday, June 2, because of an undisclosed injury.
Link to storyNew York Giants WR Sterling Shepard (Achilles) recently told CBS Sports HQ's Josina Anderson that he began jogging for the first time last week.
Footballguys view: More good news out of Giants camp. Shepard also added that he will return when he is ready and is under no pressure on his exact return date. That means we'll have to wait and see how quickly he continues through his recovery. |

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley recently told CBS Sports HQ's Josina Anderson that he feels like 2022 will be 'a fresh start' and that he expects to be much more involved in the passing game than he has been in recent years.
Footballguys view: This has been reported before, so it's consistent with the message coming out of Giants camp. Barkley is an outstanding receiver when healthy, but he has struggled to stay on the field after his rookie season. |

New York Giants DE Kayvon Thibodeaux (undisclosed) has been sidelined at OTAs with an undisclosed injury, but head coach Brian Daboll said he doesn't expect the injury to impact Thibodeaux's availability for training camp.
Link to storyNew York Giants S Jordan Mosley (undisclosed) was released from the Reserve/Injured list Thursday, May 26, after receiving an injury settlement.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, New York Giants OG Joshua Ezeudu signed a four-year, $5.485 million rookie contract that includes a signing bonus of $1.169 million.
Link to storyNew York Giants rookie WR Wan'Dale Robinson is expected to work 'immediately' in the wide receiver rotation and could see snaps out of the backfield as well, in the opinion of ESPN's Jordan Raanan. 'He will be part of the receiver rotation immediately. Robinson could also get snaps out of the backfield alongside Barkley. It's something he did in college.'
Link to storyNew York Giants third-round draft choice OG Joshua Ezeudu signed a four-year contract with the Giants Monday, May 23. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyJordan Raanan, from ESPN.com, reports New York Giants HC Brian Daboll reiterated his desire for QB Daniel Jones to "cut it loose" in 2022.
Footballguys view: Daboll's offense could be good for Jones. This is obviously a make-or-break season for the 2019 first-round pick, but Daboll's system should play to his strengths to give him the best chance to produce. In 2QB/Superflex leagues, Jones makes an intriguing late-round pick because of his system fit with Daboll and his ability to gain yards with his legs in addition to his arm. Deep shots will be taken by Jones this year - per his coach's request - but he needs to cut down on the turnovers to keep his job past this season. |

New York Giants WR Kadarius Toney (knee) had a 'minor arthroscopic knee procedure' during the offseason, per sources, but is expected to be ready to go by training camp.
Footballguys view: Toney ruffled some feathers on the new staff when he didn't report for 'voluntary' workouts earlier this month. Things have smoothed over since Toney showed up and has been impressing the staff on and off the field. Giants OC Mike Kafka said Toney was "doing all the right things." Toney has plenty of flex appeal for your fantasy team if he stays healthy. |

Free-agent CB Michael Jacquet III (Jaguars) signed with the New York Giants Thursday, May 19. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived DT Antonio Valentino.
Link to storyNew York Giants S Jordan Mosley (undisclosed) was reverted to the Reserve/Injured list Thursday, May 19, after he cleared waivers.
Link to storyThird-round draft choice CB Cordale Flott (Louisiana State) signed a four-year contract worth $5.23 million - including a $983,000 signing bonus - with the New York Giants on Thursday, May 19.
Link to storyDan Duggan, from The Athletic, notes from New York Giants OTAs that RB Saquon Barkley could catch 'a ton' of passes out of the backfield in the Brian Daboll offense.
Footballguys view: We've seen Barkley catch a ton of passes - when he was a rookie and snared 91 passes in 2018. It's doubtful he ever matches that production again, but 50 catches is something he should easily do if he stays healthy. We're excited about Daboll's offense with the Giants, and Barkley is in a make-or-break season. |

New York Giants WR Kadarius Toney has been 'great to work with' so far, according to offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.'He's been really attentive in meetings. He's doing all the right things on and off the field. I love his personality. He's one of those guys that brings a smile to the room. He has a bright personality. He's been great to work with,' Kafka told NJ.com before practice on Thursday, May 19.
Footballguys view: Earlier this offseason, things looked dire for Toney and the new staff with some speculating the team would move him via trade. Now, all things are trending in a positive direction. Toney has fantastic playmaking ability and can move the chains when healthy. We'll see if the new staff continues to enjoy what they see from the second-year receiver. |

Link to storyUndrafted free-agent RB Jashaun Corbin (Florida State) and LB Tomon Fox (North Carolina) signed deals with the New York Giants, the team announced Friday, May 13.
Footballguys view: Corbin is a big-play back who should mostly be used as a receiver out of the backfield or a runner in space. He gets a chance to make the Giants roster and could thrive if utilized correctly. Corbin is not a pile pusher, and he should not be tasked with running inside that often, but he has good vision and understands angles to cut back to. |
Free-agent CB Jimmy Smith (Ravens) could be a possible option for the New York Giants since he has played for defensive coordinator Don Martindale in the past, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan.
