Giants | Jermaine Eluemunor returns to practice Fri Jul 26, 09:14 PM
New York Giants OT Jermaine Eluemunor (ribs) returned to practice Friday, July 26.
Link to storyNew York Giants OT Jermaine Eluemunor (ribs), DT Timmy Horne (calf) and S Tyler Nubin (calf) did not participate in practice Friday, July 26.
Link to storyNew York Giants OT Jermaine Eluemunor (undisclosed) was scheduled to be a limited participant during practice Thursday, July 25.
Footballguys view: Eluemenor is a contender to start at right tackle as 2022 first round pick Evan Neal is still injured and has underwhelmed to date. This news should be accompanied by a sigh of relief as the Giants line is being overhauled and can't afford too many setbacks. |
New York Giants WR Malik Nabers was targeted four times and carried the ball once in 20 plays run by the first-team offense on Thursday, July 25, per ESPN's Jordan Raanan, who opined it's possible that Nabers could see 150 targets as New York's No. 1 receiver.
Footballguys view: It would be more surprising if the Giants didn't make Nabers the focal point of the offense. Whether he pays off on the third round pick it costs to get him in redraft and best ball leagues depends on the quality of play from him and more importantly Daniel Jones, along with a rebuilt Giants offensive line that failed Jones and the other quarterbacks so often last season. |
New York Giants TE Daniel Bellinger (undisclosed) was cleared to participate in training camp after dealing with an undisclosed injury throughout spring activities.
Link to storyNew York Giants S Tyler Nubin (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Thursday, July 25, because he dealt with cramps during practice Wednesday, July 24.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, New York Giants OT Jermaine Eluemunor (undisclosed) indicated that he is fine after leaving practice early Wednesday, July 24, because of an undisclosed injury.

Free-agent OG Greg Van Roten (Raiders) is scheduled to meet with the New York Giants in the near future.
Link to storyAccording to ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan, Giants quarterback Caniel Jones is not expected to start on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. The Giants veterans report to training camp on Tuesday (July 23). Their first practice is scheduled for Wednesday (July 24). Asked by Raanan on Sunday if he was fully cleared for practice, Jones expressed optimism. "Yeah, should be ready to go," he said.
Footballguys view: Jones expects to be full-go this week. He underwent surgery on a torn ACL in November and wasn't fully cleared in the spring, but Raanan reports Jones did not suffer any setbacks that would keep him from being ready for Day 1 of training camp. Whatever the case, the Giants have been adamant that Jones will be their starter Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium (barring any setbacks). Drew Lock, signed as a free agent this offseason, is standing by if not. |

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones (knee) is not expected to be placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list when training camp begins.
Footballguys view: Good news for Jones here. He's said in a recent interview that he has had a "pretty smooth process" with "no real setbacks" returning from a torn ACL. If he's healthy, Jones is in line to start for the Giants. We'll see if Drew Lock can do anything to change the team's mind before the start of the regular season. We'll also see just how healthy Jones is returning from his knee injury. |

Updating a previous report, New York Giants TE Theo Johnson (hip) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list because of a hip injury.
Footballguys view: The fourth-round pick from Penn State could compete for a starting job when healthy. With the retirement of Darren Waller, Daniel Bellinger is in line to be the Giants' no.1 tight end. |
New York Giants TE Theo Johnson was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list on Tuesday, July 16.
Link to storyDaniel Jones is almost at the finish line for restarting his career. Jones said during an appearance on "Simms Complete" on the Bleav Podcast Network that he has had a "pretty smooth process" with "no real setbacks" returning from a torn ACL. "At this point," Jones told father-son co-hosts Phil and Matt Simms, "I'm doing pretty much everything -- running, cutting, everything I need to do."
Footballguys view: Jones underwent surgery Nov. 22 to repair that torn ACL. Jones was a limited participant in the team's offseason program, and the Giants will likely be deliberate in handling his return to team drills at training camp. Once he is medically cleared for contact and can rejoin 11-on-11 drills, Jones will be playing to stake his claim to the job beyond 2024 and avoid becoming a cap casualty with two years remaining on his four-year, $160 million contract. The Giants are eight days from the first practice of training camp. We'll be following up as needed. |

According to The Athletic's Dan Duggan, Wan'Dale Robinson's finish to last season provided optimism that the 2022 second-round pick can become a featured piece of the Giants' offense.
Footballguys view: Robinson averaged 4.8 catches for 52 yards in the last five games of the season. Not coincidentally, Robinson's uptick in production coincided with him passing the one-year anniversary of the torn ACL he suffered as a rookie. Duggan acknowledged the wideout likely won't be a big-play threat or a major touchdown scorer. But he could fill a role similar to Cole Beasley's when playing for Brian Daboll in Buffalo as a highly targeted weapon from the slot. Duggan isn't alone in this view. During a recent conversation with GiantsInsider.com's Chris Bisignano told us that after rookie Malik Nabers, Robinson is the receiving asset to watch. Especially if Nabers starts drawing bracket coverage, "This kid is going to be targeted," Bisignano said. |
New York Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. was recently ranked No. 10 on NorthJersey.com's list of the team's potentially most impactful players for the 2024 season. According to NorthJersey.com's Art Stapleton, the primary reason for that ranking is that he believes the Giants could use Tracy the way the Lions use Jahmyr Gibbs.
Footballguys view: Tracy was a favorite of draft fans before the draft, and he landed in a good spot with the Giants. We love him in dynasty formats, but we'll have to see how the depth chart shakes out in training camp. Tracy will compete to establish a pecking order with guys like Devin Singletary and Eric Gray. |
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll was seen calling plays during minicamp - an extension of what took place at organized team activities and throughout the spring. Meanwhile, offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Mike Kafka was seen 'listening, but not talking,' according to ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan.
Footballguys view: Daboll was a good playcaller back in Buffalo, but handed those duties over to Mike Kafka in 2022 and 2023. Kafka unsuccessfully looked for head coaching jobs in the offseason, and when he stayed on the Giants staff, he was given the new title of assistant head coach. It appears he was also demoted from playcalling. Raanan's article also depicts the breakdown between Daboll and former defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, who Daboll originally said was going to stay on in 2024 before taking the defensive coordinator job at University of Michigan. It's a make or break year for Daboll, and it looks like he's taking on even more responsbility. |
New York Giants QB Daniel Jones is working out with several of the team's wide receivers this week.
Footballguys view: Jones is a forgotten man in fantasy circles after there was some optimism about his value going into last season. After some speculation that the Giants would start Drew Lock to avoid risking Jones getting hurt and locking in a big injury guarantee for 2025, it looks like this is Jones' offense. He did gain a true #1 receiver in Malik Nabers, but lost Saquon Barkley and Darren Waller in the offseason. Jones is going late enough in best ball drafts to be a viable upside QB3, and he could still have bye/injury backup value in redraft leagues. |

Tight end Darren Waller's retirement opened opportunities for others. It looked this spring like Lawrencer Cager and fourth-round pick Theo Johnson will be asked to fill that pass-catching role. Both received some first-team reps and made plays in what primarily serves as a passing camp. Coach Brian Daboll even mentioned that Cager was "probably one of the most improved players throughout the offseason," which could open the door for him to make a significant contribution this season.
Footballguys view: While Johnson and Daniel Bellinger are currently projected as the starting tandem when the Giants are in two-tight end sets, we shouldn't forget about Cager, a converted wide receiver. Over his four year NFL career, Cager has 19 receptions for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He started his college career with the Miami Hurricanes but transferred to Georgia for his final collegiate season. With the Bulldogs, he finished the 2019 season with 33 receptions for 476 yards and four touchdowns. While it would be hard to view him as a fantasy asset, Cager could be a fly in the ointment for those interested in Johnson or Bellinger. |

Arlington Renegades WR Juwan Manigo (UFL) has received interest from the New York Giants.
Link to storyPaul Schwartz, of the New York Post, reports that Lawrence Cager and Theo Johnson took most of the first team reps at tight end in OTAs after Darren Waller retired in the offseason.
Footballguys view: Schwartz wrote that "in theory" 2022 fourth round pick Daniel Bellinger should replace Waller like he did in his rookie year, but that didn't happen in the spring practices. He reports that Bellinger and head coach Brian Daboll might not have agreed about the severity of an injury he suffered in the offseason. There probably isn't much fantasy value in this situation, but this year's fourth round pick Theo Johnson could be on a faster track to starting if Bellinger has fallen out of favor. |

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Jacob Saylors (UFL) signed a one-year contract worth $795,000 with the New York Giants on Tuesday, June 18.
Footballguys view: The UFL's #2 leading rusher saw opportunity in a backfield in flux following the departure of Saquon Barkley to Philadelphia in free agency. Devin Singletary should lead the Giants backfield, but after that, 2023 fifth round pick Eric Gray and 2024 fifth round pick Tyrone Tracy are the leading candidates for touches. 2023 UDFA Jashaun Corbin is Saylors main competition for a roster spot. |
New York Giants WR Jalin Hyatt has visibly bulked up this offseason, according to wide receivers coach Mike Groh.
Footballguys view: Hyatt made an impact in the deep passing game last year and should be set up for more favorable coverage matchups with Malik Nabers joining the team after they selected the LSU star with the 6th overall pick in April. Hyatt's dynasty and redraft ascent will be slowed by Nabers arrival, but he could still have best ball appeal as a big play option. |
New York Giants LB Isaiah Simmons (undisclosed) did not participate in offseason workouts because of an undisclosed injury.

Free-agent RB Matt Breida (Giants) is an option for the New York Giants to sign before the start of training camp, in the opinion of The Athletic's Dan Duggan.

New York Giants WR Chase Cota (collarbone) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list on Tuesday, June 18.
Link to storyFree-agent RB Jacob Saylors (UFL) signed an undisclosed deal with the New York Giants Tuesday, June 18. Saylors rushed 94 times for 460 yards (4.9 ypr) and five touchdowns in nine games with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL.
Link to storyNew York Giants WR Malik Nabers has impressed QB Daniel Jones during spring practices. 'I mean, he can do everything,' Jones said. 'There is not much that he can't do from a route-running standpoint. He's dynamic with the ball in his hands and strong, fast, explosive, catches the ball well.
Footballguys view: Nabers could easily be one of the league leaders in targets as a rookie. He is going a round later than fellow elite rookie Marvin Harrison Jr, but could have just as big an opportunity to make an impact. Harrison will catch passes from Kyler Murray, while Nabers will play with Jones and Drew Lock, so that could account for most of the difference. |
New York Giants DT Jordan Phillips (wrist) has not participated in minicamp and was limited to individual work during offseason activities as he recovers from wrist surgery.

New York Giants DL Timmy Horne (knee) has been unable to participate in any offseason activities due to a knee injury.

New York Giants WR Chase Cota (collarbone) suffered a broken collarbone after a hard landing at practice Tuesday, June 11, according to a league source.

New York Giants WR Darius Slayton (undisclosed) is expected to be ready for the start of training camp after suffering an undisclosed injury during minicamp, according to head coach Brian Daboll.

New York Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. 'spent a good portion of 11-on-11 drills on Tuesday with the first team,' according to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com on Wednesday, June 12.
Footballguys view: Let's keep an eye on this situation. Plenty of draft analysts loved Tracy as a sleeper running back in this class. Devin Singletary is there to be the lead back, but Tracy will push him for the starting job in camp. Eric Gray might get into the mix as well. |
New York Giants TE Daniel Bellinger (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Wednesday, June 12, because he suffered an undisclosed injury a few weeks ago. Head coach Brian Daboll the team are just being cautious with Bellinger.
Footballguys view: Bad news for the Giants, especially because Bellinger is expected to be the lead tight end now that Darren Waller has retired. With Bellinger banged up, guys like rookie Theo Johnson has a chance to impress. |
New York Giants WR Darius Slayton (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Wednesday, June 12.

New York Giants WR Darius Slayton (undisclosed) left practice early Tuesday, June 11, after colliding with a defense back.
Footballguys view: All of the reports say the injury wasn't serious. Slayton stayed away from the team and got a contract adjustment for his trouble earlier in the offseason. He'll probably be the Giants #2 wide receiver behind #6 overall pick Malik Nabers, but Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalen Hyatt will also have significant roles in the wide receiver group. |

Free-agent CB Tre Herndon (Jaguars) signed an undisclosed contract with the New York Giants on Wednesday, June 12.

New York Giants TE Daniel Bellinger (undisclosed) has reduced repetitions in minicamp because he had an injury pop up a few weeks ago.
Footballguys view: With the retirement of Darren Waller, this is consequential news for fourth round pick Theo Johnson, who could be asked to do more in his rookie year than expected if this is a long term issue for Bellinger. In any event, this is probably not going to be a spot that is conducive to a fantasy tight end breakout in 2024. |
