Dolphins | Shaquille Quarterman working out Fri Jul 26, 06:01 PM

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa reportedly agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension worth $212.4 million on Friday, July 26.
Footballguys view: It's Tua's turn, and he earned it, with an assist from Tyreek Hill and Mike McDaniel. He is a terrific fit for McDaniel's system and should keep this offense humming. He's still available outside of the top 12 quarterbacks because he doesn't add much as a runner. He'll all be a dicey Week 17 play at Cleveland. |

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa may not participate in 11-on-11 drills during practice while he is waiting for a contract extension, according to head coach Mike McDaniel.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins are set to make Tagovailoa a highly-paid quarterback. Until that happens, it's wise to limit his participation and minimize the risk of injury. ESPN's Adam Schefter said the Dolphins "want to pay" Tagovailoa, but at a "fair market value." |

Link to storyMiami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill said he's content with his contract situation, and he's focused on winning a championship.
Footballguys view: "The contract will come, and whenever it does, I'll be happy," Hill said of his contract during an appearance on ESPN. So surely Hill, who has two years remaining on the four-year, $120 million extension he signed upon arrival in Miami, wants a new deal and has said as much. But he understands an extension for Tua Tagovailoa is the priority in Miami. That said, coming off a season in which he led the NFL in receiving yards (1,799) and receiving touchdowns (13) while having 119 catches is noteworthy. Fantasy managers should pay more attention to that production and less attention to Hill's contract. |

Miami Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert 'pretty much' leads the running back group, according to head coach Mike McDaniel.
Footballguys view: Mostert is the lead back in what could be a dangerous RBBC. He's the starter for the Dolphins, and Fantasy GMs can count on Mostert as a low-end RB2 with upside. He went over 1,000 yards rushing and scored 18 touchdowns last year, but this season it's best to project him for around 900 yards rushing with 8-10 touchdowns. We'll see the Dolphins utilize De'Von Achane more this season, and that's why he's being drafted ahead of Mostert (current ADP of RB8 compared to RB28). |
Raheem Mostert player page
Miami Dolphins RB Jaylen Wright said he is 'tailor-made' for head coach Mike McDaniel's offense. 'Just the way that they like to create space for the running backs, space for everybody,' Wright said. 'That just makes it better for the running backs. Just the system and everything we do, I feel like it's perfect for me.'
Footballguys view: On Thursday's episode of "The Audible" Wright was deemed one of the favorite deep sleepers for Fantasy GMs this year. Wright is a perfect fit for the Dolphins because he's fast and dangerous in the open field. He's currently third on the depth chart behind Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane. That means the speedy rookie will have to wait for a larger opportunity. If he gets it; everyone is going to want him on their roster. |
Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa attempted 105 passes off run-pass offense (RPO) action for 1,069 yards last season, according to Pro Football Reference. Both marks were easily league highs. Tagovailoa also ranks second in the league in both play-action pass attempts (126) and play-action passing yards (1,145).
Footballguys view: The Mike McDaniel offense is built off the Mike Shanahan system - and that means play-action passing early and often. The Dolphins will continue to implement this strategy to get the most out of Tagovailoa and their offense. The system and the weapons around him make Tagovailoa a low-end QB1 with upside for Fantasy GMs out there. |

This offseason, Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson signed a $140 million extension that averages a league-high $35 million annually and includes $88.743 million guaranteed. Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown is averaging $32 million annually, followed by the Detroit Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown's $30.02 million, Hill at $30 million and Jaylen Waddle's new deal with $28.25 million are the top five highest paid wide receivers in the league. "I'm very excited to like just be a part of the old wave, which was $30 million, and Justin Jefferson came and surpassed that, man," Hill said. "So, very proud of those guys, happy for obviously my teammate Waddle getting his new deal. For guys like me, that's great. I'm 30 years old, also looking for a new deal. So, very, very excited to see where I fit into that category. It's amazing."
Footballguys view: Two years ago, after being traded from the Chiefs, Hill signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension with Miami that made him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL with a $30 million annual average. Hill would love to reset the market again. Age aside, he has a strong argument coming off a season in which he led the NFL in receiving yards (1,799) and receiving touchdowns (13) while having 119 catches. Over his two seasons as a Dolphin, Hill leads the NFL in receiving yards (3,509), is second in receptions (238) and third in receiving touchdowns (20). It's a situation worth watching, but with Tua Tagovailoa also needing an extension, it's fair to wonder if Hill will be a priority here. |

Free-agent OL Connor Williams (Dolphins) is reportedly generating a fair amount of interest in the open market, but his agent recently told WSVN's Josh Moser that a return to Miami does not appear all that likely.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, free-agent DL Calais Campbell (Falcons) signed a one-year contract worth $2 million - including a $790,000 signing bonus - with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, June 18.
Footballguys view: Campbell cost the Falcons seven million last season, so this is a bargain for the Dolphins. Campbell showed no sign of dropoff last season and should be a valuable, versatile piece for a Miami defense that underwent some retooling this offseason. Either Campbell gave the Dolphins a big discount so he could return to the place he played his college ball, or there was surprisingly little interest in the NFL's all-time #32 sack artist. |

Updating a previous report, free-agent S Marcus Maye (Saints) signed a one-year contract worth $1.3775 million - including a $167,600 signing bonus - with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday, June 18.
Footballguys view: Maye will provide much needed veteran depth behind Jevon Holland and Jordan Poyer. He'll compete with Elijah Campbell for snaps as the third safety. Nik Needham is also being cross-trained at safety and could figure into the position battle for the #3 safety job. Campbell could still make the team because of his special teams contributions and ability to play cornerback. |

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has not made a lot of progress in contract extension talks with the team, but the two sides are believed to be in the same ballpark in regards to the terms, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: Earlier this month, Tagovailoa spoke of his growing impatience with the lengthy negotiations. "The market is the market. That's it," Tagovailoa told reporters at minicamp. Since then, Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars received a five-year, $275 million deal that tied him with the Cincinnati Bengals' Joe Burrow for the NFL's highest annual average ($55 million per year). After leading the NFL in passing yards and earning Pro Bowl honors, it'd be a surprise if Tagovailoa was willing to take much less (if any) than that. Stay tuned. |

Free-agent DE Calais Campbell (Falcons) agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins Thursday, June 13, according to sources. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Campbell was one of the most impactful players left in free agency. The Dolphins offseason started with a lot of personnel losses, but this signing will help a defense in flux with a disruptive presence on the interior defensive line who has been a part of winning teams. He returns to where he played his college ball with this signing. |

Miami Dolphins fourth-round draft choice RB Jaylen Wright, fifth-round draft choice LB Mohamed Kamara, sixth-round draft choice S Patrick McMorris, sixth-round draft choice WR Malik Washington and seventh-round draft choice WR Tahj Washington signed four-year contracts with the Dolphins Tuesday, June 4. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyTyreek Hill says his top priority is becoming a Dolphins player for life. He will let his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, handle it, but he hopes they do a contract restructure that helps the team and invests in him for the rest of his career.
Footballguys view: Hill and Rosenhaus have clarified that they want a new contract for the star receiver. It became a bigger priority after Justin Jefferson signed a deal Monday that will pay him $35 million per year in new money. Hill's teammate, Jaylen Waddle, and Philadelphia's A.J. Brown are other receivers who have signed deals this offseason. Hill has spent the past two seasons with the Dolphins after the trade from Kansas City and has made All-Pro both seasons. He has 238 receptions for 3,509 yards and 20 touchdowns in his time in Miami. He's scheduled to make $19.765 million this year. With prices rising, Hill is understandably excited. "Oh, it's a great day in the Hill household, man. Everybody waking up happy," Hill said. We'll see if the Dolphins make Hill even happier with a big-money extension. |

The Dolphins have a couple of offensive stars in the market for new contracts, but those desires aren't keeping either one of them from attending the team's minicamp. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Tyreek Hill are both in attendance.
Footballguys view: Tagovailoa has been in and out of the voluntary portions of the team's offseason program as he moves into the fifth and final year of his rookie deal. McDaniel said that Tagovailoa's workload will mostly be determined by the quarterback. "We're going to have him out there, and he's going to be participating, but the depth and really across the board what he's doing that will be more up to him than anything," McDaniel said at a press conference. There doesn't appear to be much angst here as the two sides work towards a contract extension, and Tua's willingness to show up for portions of the voluntary adds to that. We'll continue watching for more. |

Miami Dolphins fourth-round pick LB Mohamed Kamara, sixth-round pick WR Malik Washington, seventh-round pick WR Tahj Washington, sixth-round pick S Patrick McMorris and fourth-round pick RB Jaylen Wright signed their rookie deals Tuesday, June 4. Financial terms weren't disclosed, but they are four-year deals.
Link to storyTyreek Hill became the NFL's highest-paid wide receiver when he signed a $120 million deal with the Miami Dolphins in 2022. Two years later, fresh off news of Justin Jefferson inking a reported $140 million extension with the Minnesota Vikings, Hill could be after his own raise, with agent Drew Rosenhaus hinting as much Monday. "Let's just say it's safe to acknowledge that I've been in touch with (general manager) Chris Grier and (executive) Brandon Shore of the Dolphins," Rosenhaus told Miami's WSVN.
Footballguys view: Hill took to social media to congratulate Jefferson: "JJettas, that's well deserved," he posted. The 30-year-old Hill is due more than $31 million in each of the next two seasons, with more than $56 million owed to the former Chiefs star in the final year of the deal. He's entering his third season with the Dolphins after topping 1,700 receiving yards in back-to-back campaigns. Hill's teammate, Jaylen Waddle, signed an extension of his own last week, a three-year, $84.75 million deal. Hill had previously suggested he only planned to play through his current contract. It's easy to understand how the current market might convince him to reconsider. |

Miami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane could receive a bigger role in the offense this season and may be more involved in the passing game, according to head coach Mike McDaniel.
Footballguys view: Achane is going in the early third round in Underdog drafts, but this news could help push him up the board. If Achane can stay healthy, there's little doubt that he can return value on that cost. The Dolphins must have some confidence in his durability if they are thinking about increasing his role. |
Miami Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle agreed to a three-year, $84.75 million contract extension Thursday, May 30, that includes $76 million guaranteed, per sources. The deal puts him among the top five in highest-paid receivers.
Footballguys view: The price for extensions for Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins just keeps going up. Waddle's best football can still be ahead of him if he can stay healthy following a season marred by nagging injuries. Just like Nico Collins, Waddle opted for only a three-year extension so he can get back in the free agent market before the end of his prime. |

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has reported to OTAs 10 to 15 pounds lighter and is at his ideal playing weight of 220 pounds.
Footballguys view: NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reports that the lower weight comes from Tagovailoa seeking more agility and escapability. Wolfe, who also expects Tua and the Dolphins to agree to terms on an extension before the season starts, added the lower weight doesn't come with increased injury concerns. After Tagovailoa made it through the entire season last year, team officials believe the martial arts training the QB did last offseason paid dividends. They are comfortable with the slimmer version. |
Tua Tagovailoa player page
Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa reported to organized team activities Monday, May 20.
Footballguys view: OTAs are voluntary, but Tagovailoa, who had been absent up to this point, had indicated he would report despite his desire for a contract extension. The QB is heading into the fifth and final year of his rookie contract. He's guaranteed a base salary of $23.17 million this season. Until the Dolphins and Tagovailoa agree to a long-term deal (the going rate is roughly $50 million per year, there will be questions about his future in Miami. And, as Profootballtalk.com suggested, there will also be continued speculation on how much voluntary work he's willing to do. Contract aside, Tua's fantasy value remains solid. He's at the top of the QB2 list on our rankings. |

Miami Dolphins RB Salvon Ahmed appears to be 'at serious risk' of being cut during the preseason, after the team drafted RB Jaylen Wright, in the opinion of Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins have a jam-packed running back room. Wright brings more speed to the fastest backfield in the NFL. The rookie is not quite Alvin Kamara, but the former Tennessee back can be dangerous as a runner and receiver in space. With Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane at the top of the depth chart, the Dolphins have three backs who can take it to the house at any given time. Ahmed will compete with guys like Jeff Wilson and Chris Brooks to see if he can make the team. |

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has been absent for most of the team's voluntary offseason work since the Dolphins reported back on April 15, according to sources.
Footballguys view: These are just voluntary workouts, so not a big deal. The Dolphins have figured out how to best work with Tagavailoa and his training regimen. Fantasy GMs can expect QB1 production in 2024. |
