Dolphins | Raheem Mostert close to full strength Wed Jun 15, 04:36 PM
Miami Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert (knee) said his injured knee is close to 100 percent. He has indicated that he hopes to be ready for the start of training camp.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins are going to run the heck out of the ball under new head coach Mike McDaniel. Mostert will be in the mix for carries with guys like Chase Edmonds and Sony Michel. If healthy, a problem for Mostert over the last couple of seasons, he can get early-down work with Edmonds getting more third-down action. As it stands right now, Mostert is a RB4/RB5 for Fantasy GMs with upside if/when Edmonds gets banged up (and he stays healthy). |

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill, and his agent Drew Rosenhaus, said he felt underutilized with the Kansas City Chiefs on Hill's podcast 'It Needed to Be Said.' 'If teams are gonna give us favorable one-on-one matches against their best corner, I don't see why teams don't utilize their best receiver,' Hill said. 'And that's where probably like me and the Chiefs fell apart right there. When I'm like, yo, I don't mean to talk or be a diva in some situation but can I see the pill some time, please? Just give me the ball, please.'
Footballguys view: That's an interesting opinion from Hill, and that's his truth. However, he was targeted a career high 159 times in 2021....so....there's that. Hill is on a team with a new head coach (Mike McDaniel) that wants to run the ball all the time. That will set up play-action opportunities for Hill on deep shots, but he may not get nearly as many targets as he did in Kansas City. Oh yeah, Tua Tagovailoa is not the deep passer that Patrick Mahomes is. Let's see what Hill is saying on his podcast during the season. |

Miami Dolphins fourth-round draft choice WR Erik Ezukanma signed a four-year contract with the Dolphins Friday, June 10. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Ezukanma has a nice size/speed combination and he was incredibly consistent over the last few years in college at Texas Tech. He's more than comfortable in contested catch situations and is not afraid to take some contact to make the play. Ezukanma is not a burner, but he tracks passes well down the field over his shoulder. He's strong after the catch and runs through tackles like a running back at times. We'll monitor him in dynasty formats as he works to make a name for himself in the pros. |
Free-agent LB Porter Gustin (Browns) signed with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, June 8. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also released DE Daeshon Hall and waived CB Javaris Davis.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa recently told Muscle & Fitness magazine that he expects to have more success with downfield passing in 2022 after ranking 30th in deep attempts - passes that travel 20 or more yards in the air - according to Sports Info Solutions. However, Tagovailoa's 48 percent completion on such passes only trailed the Arizona Cardinals' Kyler Murray.'I wasn't really able to push the ball down the field last year because we didn't have plays specifically to push the ball down the field. A lot of plays that were called last year were meant for one person. Either this person is open, or the play might be dead,' Tagovailoa told the fitness magazine.
Footballguys view: Tagovailoa is not a great deep passer. The team is going to test his skill in that department this year. New head coach Mike McDaniel is going to run the ball early and often, so that should open up play-action passing. That means Tagovailoa is going to have the chance to take more deep shots this year to guys like WRs Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. |

Miami Dolphins CB Byron Jones (ankle) is not practicing during mandatory minicamp as he continues to recover from offseason ankle surgery.

Miami Dolphins WR Lynn Bowden (hamstring) isn't participating in OTAs due to a hamstring injury.
Footballguys view: Bowden is an interesting player for the way things have (or haven't) worked out for him in the NFL. A versatile player and third-round pick out of Kentucky in the 2020 NFL draft, Bowden barely made it out of training camp with the Raiders before being shipped to the Dolphins. In Miami, Bowden played in 10 games as a rookie but missed all of the 2021 season due to a hamstring injury. It's not a great sign that he's got another hamstring ailment. |

Miami Dolphins LB Channing Tindall agreed to terms on a four-year rookie contract on Wednesday, May 25, per his agent. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (illness) did not participate in practice Tuesday, May 24, because of an illness not related to COVID-19.
Footballguys view: Tagovailoa is in a make-or-break season. The new staff so far has been impressed by him at practice, and that momentum needs to carry over to training camp, the preseason and the regular season. Tagovailoa has many more weapons around him this year, and he'll have a run-heavy offense to operate play-action passing from. The young passer needs to stay healthy and play up to his potential so the Dolphins don't look for another quarterback in 2023. |
Tua Tagovailoa player page
Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa 'has impressed coaches and teammates this spring with his improved arm strength and command of the locker room,' according to Adam Beasley of Pro Football Network.'What have I seen from (Tagovailoa)? I've seen a guy that's attacking the moment, a guy that really likes to play football. ... I've been very excited about his development as far as the offensive plan and being the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins,' head coach Mike McDaniel told Beasley.
Footballguys view: That's good news for Tagovailoa, and he certainly is in a make-or-break season in 2022. The Dolphins have put more talent around him, and new head coach Mike McDaniel is going to feature a run-heavy offense that sets up play-action passing. This should help out Tagovailoa as he needs to show he can be the franchise quarterback the Dolphins envisioned when they picked him in the first round a few years ago. |

Miami Dolphins WR Lynn Bowden (hamstring) is dealing with a hamstring issue at this time, according to head coach Mike McDaniel.

Barry Jackson, from the Miami Herald, reports via Twitter that Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said RB Raheem Mostert has early-season expectations. "His expectations are to play week 1 and we are not going to rush it. He's come too far to have a setback. He's diligently working day in, day out. When he's ready he'll be on the field." McDaniel said.
Footballguys view: Mostert is coming back from a knee (cartilage) issue that cut his 2021 season short last September. The team won't rush him back, and they are certainly full of talent at the position. It's going to be some form of RBBC, likely with Chase Edmonds as the starter and Mostert competing as a change-of-pace back when healthy. Myles Gaskin and Sony Michel round out the depth chart. |

Free-agent OG Cole Banwart (Giants) signed with the Miami Dolphins Saturday, May 14. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived OG Ty Clary with a failed physical designation.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins seventh-round draft choice QB Skylar Thompson signed a four-year contract with the Dolphins Friday, May 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Thompson is an interesting late-round quarterback to monitor in deep dynasty formats. He's a dual-threat quarterback who can attack defenses with his arm or his legs. Thompson can make all the throws in the NFL, but he does have a tendency to abandon the pocket and run before exhausting all options as a passer. He'll be a developmental prospect for the Dolphins. |
Seventh-round draft choice LB Cameron Goode (California) reportedly agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, May 12. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins RBs Chase Edmonds, Myles Gaskin, Raheem Mostert, Salvon Ahmed and Sony Michel will be involved in a 'creative competition,' according to assistant head coach/running backs coach Eric Studesville. 'You create a competitive environment and you let those guys go sort it out because that's how it's going to happen,' Studesville said. 'They're going to sort it out as to who contributes and where and how and how much.'
Footballguys view: Um...yeah, that's one way to put it. There is no question that the Dolphins are stacked to the brim with running back talent. New head coach Mike McDaniel loves to run the ball, and he should be able to do that early and often - no matter who is toting the rock. Edmonds and Mostert would seem to be the top two backs on the depth chart, but Michel is no slappy and could push for playing time too. We'll have to watch this rotation shake out in training camp. |

David Furones, from the Miami Sun-Sentinel, reports Dolphins OC Frank Smith said the offense will not be limited vertically through the air. Smith also relayed that he's "optimistic" about what he's seen from QB Tua Tagovailoa's arm strength.
Footballguys view: Smith is crafting the new offense for the Dolphins, and he should include plenty of downfield looks for WR Tyreek Hill. Fantasy GMs should consider Hill a WR1 as per usual...just don't expect him to light it up the way he did with the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes has a rocket arm and is a much better downfield passer than Tagovailoa. At this time in 12-team PPR leagues, Tagovailoa has an ADP of QB18 (11.10) and Hill has an ADP of WR6 (2.05). |

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Sony Michel (Rams) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins Monday, May 9, worth $2.1 million, according to a source.
Footballguys view: The Dolphins will run the heck out of the ball under new head coach Mike McDaniel, and Michel will be a part of that. They got him for a good price and given the talent in that backfieild (Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert) they won't need Michel to carry a large load. It has the possibility of being quite frustrating for Fantasy GMs, but the Dolphins should have a strong rushing attack in 2022. |
Sony Michel player page
Free-agent RB Sony Michel (Rams) agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins Monday, May 9, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Michel did a good job as the Rams featured back last year after injuries struck the position, rushing for 854 yards and four rushing touchdowns. He now joins a crowded Dolphins backfield with Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert. We'll see how this RBBC shakes out in training camp and the preseason. |
Sony Michel player page
Free-agent RB Sony Michel (Rams) met with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday, May 4.
Footballguys view: Michel appeared in all 17 games for the Rams last season, and there was a window (in the fantasy playoffs) where he was a key fantasy player. He's getting interest now after the draft and could land with a team before mandatory minicamps start next month. The Dolphins will run the ball early and often under new head coach Mike McDaniel, and they currently have Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert as their top two backs. |

Miami Dolphins OT Austin Jackson is working at right tackle during the team's offseason program, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. The expectation is that Austin Jackson will battle Liam Eichenberg for the starting job at that position.

Link to storyUndrafted free agents OL Blaise Andries (Minnesota), OL Kellen Diesch (Arizona State), CB Verone McKinley III (Oregon), RB ZaQuandre White (South Carolina) and DB Elijah Hamilton (Louisiana Tech) signed undisclosed deals with the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, April 30.
Footballguys view: "Quan" (ZaQuandre White) began his college career at Florida State - and even played linebacker for the Seminoles - before transferring to play for the Gamecocks (after one season at Iowa Western Community College). White has sharp cuts as a runner and is known as a hard-charging back. He can carve out a role as a complementary back as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. With a team like the Dolphins (Mike McDaniel loves to run, run, run) - put a pin in White and watch during the preseason to see if he can make the roster or practice squad. |

Houston DE Logan Hall is receiving interest from the Miami Dolphins leading up to the 2022 NFL Draft.
Link to storyLouisiana State RB Tyrion Davis-Price met with Miami Dolphins' coaches and management earlier in the week, according to a source.
Footballguys view: Davis-Price was highly recruited coming out of Baton Rouge and decided to stay in state with LSU. He waited for his time to start, and a few years after his arrival he became "the man" for the Tigers. Davis-Price runs with power and intent. He's not going to outrun defenders for a big play, and he's not going to use juke moves to create space. Instead, Davis-Price is going to pound a defense relentlessly and break tackles to gain more yards. He's a mid-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. |
University of Houston DE Logan Hall worked in front of a Miami Dolphins assistant coach and assistant general manager Marvin Allen at his pro day on April 1 after meeting with him for an hour the previous night, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Georgia RB James Cook is scheduled to work out for the Miami Dolphins Friday, April 7, as part of the team's local Pro Day.
Footballguys view: Cook started playing football as a 5-year old in Miami, and he was a high school star there before going to college at Georgia. The speedy change-of-pace back is considered a fourth-round talent in this draft class. James Cook is the younger brother of Dalvin Cook but doesn't possess the same type of elite skill set. He's a third-down type at the pro level, and a team like the Dolphins could use another playmaker. |

Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill told the team he wants to return punts next season, according to general manager Chris Grier.
Footballguys view: That's cool, but the investment in Hill means they'll be cautious with playing him on special teams. |

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker is receiving trade interest from other teams, and general manager Chris Grier said the team is open to listening to offers but anticipates Parker to remain on the roster.
Footballguys view: With Tyreek Hill added via trade, the Dolphins are looking to move on from Parker if they can. The Dolphins also added Cedric Wilson, and he should be the no.3 receiver if Parker is dealt. There are rumblings the Eagles could be interested as they continue to look for wide receiver help. |
