Seattle Seahawks RB Damien Martinez was released from the practice squad on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren will be the 'featured runner' to begin the 2025 season, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.
Footballguys view: While Tomlin acknowledged we'll see Kenneth Gainwell and Kaleb Johnson, currently listed as RB2 and RB3, respectively on the team's depth chart, the coach added, "At what time and at what degree [will depend week-to-week]." That being the case, it's worth noting that hampered by injuries, Warren finished as RB45 last year. But he was RB20 (in a timeshare with Najee Harris) in 2023. An RB2 finish would be ahead of the RB3 price we've been paying for Warren in recent days. |
Los Angeles Chargers RB Omarion Hampton could be 'a very productive workhorse,' in the opinion of The Athletic's Daniel Popper, who writes that Hampton is the 'complete package' as a runner, and with questions surrounding how much RB Najee Harris (eye) can contribute, Popper believes that the Chargers will 'feed' Hampton a lot of touches.
Footballguys view: Popper believes that role will be sufficient for Hampton to be among the league leaders in rushing yards this season. While that's not out of the question, it won't be easy. As SI.com's Mike Moraitis notes, there is no telling how well Hampton will acclimate to the NFL in his first season. Even the slightest issue with that will cause him to fall short of this prediction. Adding to that, Najee Harris figures to see ample action, which could significantly cut into Hampton's snaps, making it even more difficult for him to finish as a top-five rusher. |
Los Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris (eye) said he expects to be available for the Week 1 game.
Footballguys view: "I'm ramping up to it," he told The Athletic's Daniel Popper. Harris did not want to get into any details on what happened in the fireworks accident, but he said his vision has not been affected and called the eye injury "superficial." We'll be watching for more on Harris' progress as Friday's kickoff in Brazil draws nearer. What we know now, however, is that Harris is eager to hit the field. Having Harris and first-round pick Omarion Hampton in the backfield could help keep the Chiefs' offense off the field as much as possible. |

Chicago Bears RB D'Andre Swift will see 'plentiful' opportunities as both a runner and receiver this season, in the opinion of The Athletic's Dan Wiederer, who notes that there is 'little proven depth' in the backfield behind Swift, and that new head coach Ben Johnson is 'devoted' to the running game.

Dallas Cowboys RB Miles Sanders (shoulder) and RB Jaydon Blue (ankle) fully participated in practice Monday, Sept. 1, and are not on the injury report for Week 1.

Baltimore Ravens FB Patrick Ricard (undisclosed) and TE Isaiah Likely (foot) did not participate in practice Monday, Sept. 1.

Los Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris (eye) has a chance to play in the Week 1 game, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Footballguys view: This has to be viewed as a best-case scenario for Harris. As SI.com suggested, it's a mild surprise he could even be available after his limited showings in training camp in the wake of an eye injury suffered during a fireworks accident. As such, one would think he's behind first-rounder Omarion Hampton in the rotation for now. We'll continue to watch his progress in advance of Friday's game against the Chiefs in Brazil. |

Free-agent RB Lawrance Toafili (Jets) was signed to the New York Jets practice squad Monday, Sept. 1.
Link to storyUpdating an earlier report, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren's two-year deal includes $7 million this year with $12 million total guaranteed.
Footballguys view: The deal also includes a $5.95 million signing bonus, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Warren gets $5.05 million in 2026 and $5.15 million in 2027 for a total of $17.25 million over three years, a source told Fowler. With Najee Harris allowed to move on as a free agent this offseason, Warren is left to lead a position group that also includes rookie third-round pick Kaleb Johnson and former Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell. |
Miami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane (calf) will practice Monday, Sept. 2.
Footballguys view: Today's practice should be the first step in Achane solidifying his availability for Sunday's season opener against the Colts. "We've been very aggressive with treatment, so there's no setback, head coach Mike McDaniel said. "And that will be the focus, if he doesn't have any setbacks, he'll be playing." The Dolphins issue their first injury report of the week on Wednesday. Assuming he's ready to go, Achane is a locked-in RB1. In 17 games last year, Achane rushed for 907 yards with six touchdowns and caught 78 passes for 592 yards with another six TDs. We'll be watching for more. |
New York Jets RB Braelon Allen said he is motivated to build off the success he had last season. 'I have a lot left to prove, not even to the outside world but still people in this locker room and people in this building and to myself,' Allen said.
Footballguys view: Allen, a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, played in all 17 games for the Jets in the 2024 season. He totaled 482 yards and three touchdowns, and the incoming staff has talked about using him in a David Montgomery-like role alongside Breece Hall. While the team is "extremely high" on Allen, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports that coaches realize what they have in Hall, who can be a primary ball carrier, a receiving back, or some combination of the two. With the Jets likely to be a run-heavy offense, both backs could be viable fantasy assets. |
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren agreed to a two-year extension Monday, Sept. 1. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Footballguys view: Warren joined the Steelers after going undrafted in 2022, and he's played 48 regular-season games for the team. Warren has 346 carries for 1,674 yards and six touchdowns to go with 127 catches for 894 yards. As Profootballtalk.com notes, Najee Harris was the lead back in Pittsburgh over Warren's first three seasons, but Warren is on top of the depth chart this year. If things go well, he's on track to stay there in 2026 and 2027 as well, although rookie Kaleb Johnson hopes to have some say in that at some point. |
Carolina Panthers RB Trevor Etienne is listed as the team's third-string running back behind RBs Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle.
Link to storyThe Los Angeles Chargers signed free-agents WR Luke Grimm and RB Amar Johnson to the practice squad Sunday, Aug. 31. OG Karsen Barnhart was released from the practice squad.
Link to storyDallas Cowboys RB Miles Sanders is listed as the primary backup to RB Javonte Williams on the team's first unofficial depth chart ahead of the Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Footballguys view: Fifth round speedster Jaydon Blue is the #3 back and seventh round power back Phil Mafah is on injured reserve with a designation to return because of a shoulder injury. Williams is the Cowboys back to play if you need to dig deep for a starter in Week 1, but don't expect much vs. the Eagles. This pecking order is subject to change, and Dallas could seek to trade for another back once they see this trio in action. |
Miles Sanders player page
Dallas Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue (ankle) is listed as the No. 3 tailback on the team's first unofficial depth chart ahead of the regular season. He had been dealing with an ankle injury late in training camp, and it is uncertain if that played into the decision making.
Link to storyWashington Commanders RB Chris Rodriguez Jr. spent a month and a half in Atlanta this offseason working to become faster and lighter, while focusing on strength and mobility training. Rodriguez shed weight, dropping to 222 pounds. He also worked on a program to improve his pass catching and route running. 'I like his fight,' head coach Dan Quinn said. 'I like that he really worked hard to change his body, and those are things that, when people continue to show you that, then you pay attention.'
Footballguys view: Rodriguez isn't flashy, but he has the hard-nosed downhill running style to become the first option in short yardage and to salt away wins in a committee backfield. He's the cheapest in drafts, but Rodriguez has the valuable goal line touches and could easily end up being the best fantasy option in the Washington backfield. |
The National Football League is still reviewing the misdemeanor domestic battery case of Cleveland Browns RB Quinshon Judkins, even though there are no longer pending charges, according to league spokesman Brian McCarthy. He remains subject to discipline from the league, although no decision appears imminent.
Footballguys view: This is at least one of the reasons that Judkins hasn't signed yet. It's not clear when the league will conclude their investigation. Judkins camp and the Browns are also going to have to find a common ground to finalize changes to the contract that are called for in light of Judkins domestic violence incident and any league response to it. It's a stretch to imagine Judkins being ready to play in Week 1, and the impact he can make after that is subject to numerous variables, including the play of fellow rookie Dylan Sampson and passing down back Jerome Ford. If you take Judkins, you will have to hold him for an indefinite number of weeks before you even know what you have. |
Tennessee Titans RB Kalel Mullings (ankle) may be questionable for the Week 1 game, in the opinion of TennesseeTitans.com's Jim Wyatt.
Footballguys view: The Titans may have to face the Broncos in Week 1 with just Tony Pollard and Julius Chestnut in the backfield. With Tyjae Spears on IR-R, Mullings is the no.3 back on the depth chart in Tennessee. |
Free-agent RB Blake Watson (Broncos) is a player the Denver Broncos are interested in signing to their practice squad but have to wait at least three weeks since they originally waived him with an injury settlement.
Footballguys view: Watson, a converted receiver coming out of Memphis last year, has impressed during his time with the Broncos last year and this summer. However, he's struggled to stay healthy and would be buried on the team's depth chart. Fantasy GMs in crazy deep dynasty formats should be monitoring him. |
New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson has the team 'ecstatic,' according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, and Howe believes Henderson could become the lead back.
Footballguys view: Everyone should be excited by Henderson. He's a big play waiting to happen, and Henderson can flip the field anytime he touches the ball - both as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. The rookie from Ohio State is going to split time with Rhamondre Stevenson this season. In fact, many are expecting Henderson to take over in the backfield. That's why Henderson is seen by most as an RB2 with RB1 upside. |
Dallas Cowboys RB Javonte Williams is listed as the starter on the team's first official depth chart of the season.
Footballguys view: The Cowboys rushing attack does not strike fear into an opponent. Williams was below average as a starter for the Broncos, and that's likely what he's going to be with his new team in 2025. He's a plodding runner, good in pass protection but only decent as a receiver on screen passes. Miles Sanders and Jaydon Blue will split time behind Williams. |

Free-agent WR Courtney Jackson was signed to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad Thursday, Aug. 28. The team also released RB Anthony Tyus III from the practice squad.
Footballguys view: Jackson was impressive for the Broncos this summer in training camp and the preseason. He's a speedy receiver with the ability to be a return man as well. In crazy deep dynasty formats we'll keep an eye on him. |
Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Jeff Wilson Jr. (49ers) and RB JaMycal Hasty (Patriots) were signed to the Miami Dolphins practice squad Thursday, Aug. 28.
Footballguys view: Wilson is back with the Dolphins, and he fits the system. With his speed and three-down ability, Fantasy GMs in super deep leagues should monitor his situation. If injuries strike at the position, Wilson is the type of veteran the Dolphins could turn to. |

Indianapolis Colts RB Tyler Goodson (elbow) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 28.
Link to storyMiami Dolphins RB De'Von Achane (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 28.
Footballguys view: Dolphins GM Chris Grier told reporters Achane is expected to play in Week 1 against the Colts. He's a speed back, so a calf injury could slow him down a bit. However, the Dolphins continue to express confidence in his status and availability. Let's circle back next week to see what Achane's practice status is. |
Tennessee Titans RB Tony Pollard acknowledged Thursday, Aug. 28, that he expects to get most of the carries this season, according to a report from ESPN.com Turron Davenport. Pollard said that knowing he'll get the bulk of the carries won't change his preparation, but that 'it is a good feeling to know he'll be in for the whole game, not coming in and out, so he can be more relaxed and get into a good flow.'
Footballguys view: Tyjae Spears (ankle) is on IR designated to return, so he's out the first four weeks of the regular season. That means it's Pollard as the Titans three-down back and featured player on offense. We'll see what rookie QB Cam Ward can do, but having a rushing quarterback could help open things up for Pollard. Fantasy GMs see Pollard as a RB3/flex option. |

Miami Dolphins RB Jaylen Wright (leg) had surgery that will keep him out until 'Septemberish,' according to head coach Mike McDaniel.
Footballguys view: Devon Achane will lead the way on the ground for the Dolphins, and with Wright missing time it opens the door for rookie Ollie Gordon. Wright is not going to miss the season, but he may struggle to earn playing time if Gordon looks good (and he's flashed this summer). |
