Packers | Jordan Love's deal includes big guarantees Fri Jul 26, 09:24 PM
Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love's contract extension includes a record $75 million signing bonus and $155 million in full gurantees, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love has agreed to a four-year, $220 million extension, making him the highest paid quarterback in NFL history, according to sources.

Green Bay Packers OT Zach Tom (pectoral) is limited to individual drills at this point, and head coach Matt LaFleur said Tom is at least a week away from participating in team drills.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers OT Caleb Jones, OL Donovan Jennings and CB Corey Ballentine were activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list on Friday, July 26.

Green Bay Packers S Javon Bullard has alternated reps with the first-team defense with fellow rookie S Evan Williams early in camp, and second-year S Anthony Johnson Jr. has already intercepted two passes through three days of camp. Head coach Matt LaFleur said, 'Every day's going to be a new guy in there and we're just going to let it play out,' in terms of who will start opposite S Xavier McKinney.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers CB Eric J. Stokes had two interceptions during practice on Wednesday, July 24, and has been working as the starter ahead of CB Carrington Valentine. Stokes has played in just 12 games over the past two seasons combined due to injuries.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, Green Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed (toe) passed his physical Wednesday, July 24, and has been activated from the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed (toe) is expected to be activated off the active/non-football injury list on Wednesday, July 24, head coach Matt LaFleur said.
Footballguys view: Reed is a player that excites some Fantasy GMs out there. We like him as a WR3/flex option in PPR formats. Reed is our no.36 fantasy receiver in 2024. |
Free-agent QB Jacob Eason (Giants) signed with the Green Bay Packers Tuesday, July 23. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also released LB Peter Bowden.

Green Bay Packers RB AJ Dillon is easily in the best shape of his professional career, in the opinion of head coach Matt LaFleur.
Footballguys view: "This is the best I've seen him, hands down," LaFleur said of Dillon Tuesday morning before Day 2 of training camp practice. "I think he would tell you the same. I think it's just a testament to the work that he's put in. He came back in great shape." Free agent acquisition Josh Jacobs, a year removed from being the league's leading rusher, is expected to be the lead back. That said, even when Aaron Jones was lead back, LaFleur used a secondary back to lessen his load. Jacobs has shown he can carry a big load, but having two big backs may allow LaFleur to wear some defenses down using a heavy dose of runs. Rookie MarShawn Lloyd, who will miss some time with a hip injury, will also compete for a role behind Jacobs. |
Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers RB MarShawn Lloyd (hip) will only miss a couple of days, according to head coach Matt LaFleur.
Footballguys view: As previously noted, Lloyd hopes to push AJ Dillon for the RB2 role behind Josh Jacobs. The rookie has much to prove, so a quick return will serve him well. |
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love is likely to receive more than $50 million per season on his extension, in the opinion of ESPN's Rob Demovsky.
Footballguys view: Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said at a press conference that Love's representatives told him that the quarterback will sit out until a deal is in place. Still, Gutekunst said he is "optimistic" that Love's absence from practice will be brief because an agreement could come together soon. Meanwhile, Love's late-season rise last year was impressive by NFL and fantasy standards. Over the final eight weeks of 2023, Love scored a quarterback-leading 153 fantasy points. That was good for a 21.9 per-game average, third best behind only Lamar Jackson's 24.4 and Josh Allen's 24.6. He's currently being drafted as QB10, according to Footballguys Average Draft position data. |

Green Bay Packers TE Tucker Kraft (pectoral) is believed to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from torn pectoral muscle.
Footballguys view: Kraft should return as a full participant this summer. He'll compete for a role alongside fellow second-year tight end Luke Musgrave. |
Green Bay Packers S Kitan Oladapo (toe) has some hurdles to clear before he is cleared to practice, according to general manager Brian Gutekunst. Oladapo is currently on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers RB MarShawn Lloyd (hip) is dealing with a hip injury, according to sources Monday, July 22.
Footballguys view: Opening training camp with an issue could slow Lloyd's efforts to push AJ Dillon for backup work behind Josh Jacobs. It will also keep him from working on the ball security issues that led to 10 fumbles on 325 career touches in college. We'll monitor and update as needed. |
Green Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed (toe) is dealing with a toe injury and started training camp on the PUP list, according to sources Monday, July 22.
Footballguys view: Reed was a second-round pick last year, and he caught 64 passes for 793 yards and eight touchdowns. He led the team in catches and yards and tied Romeo Doubs for the touchdown mark. We'll follow up on his injury status as needed. Reed is currently the first Packer receiver off the board in fantasy draft. He's WR35 with a sixth-round average draft position. |
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love will not practice until he reaches a contract extension. General manager Brian Gutekunst says a deal could be close.
Footballguys view: "I think so, but, again, you never know," Gutekunst said, explaining how much work needs to be done. "We're working really hard to get that done." Gutekunst also said he thinks it is important for Love to be on the field as much as possible, suggesting there will be a push to get a deal done. In his first year as a starter, Love completed 64.2 percent of his throws for 4,159 yards with 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 247 yards with four TDs. Love is carrying a QB10 Average Draft Position into the summer, making him a weekly starter in 12-team leagues. |

Green Bay Packers OT Zach Tom (pectoral) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 22.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers DL Kenny Clark agreed to terms on a three-year, $64 million contract extension on Sunday, July 21, according to his agents. Clark will now make $29 million in 2024.

Green Bay Packers DB Corey Ballentine (undisclosed), OT Caleb Jones (undisclosed) and WR Jayden Reed (undisclosed) were placed on the active/non-football injury list on Sunday, July 21.

Green Bay Packers DB Javon Bullard appears to be in 'pole position' to have a spot in the team's starting lineup at safety, in the opinion of The Athletic's Matt Schneidman.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers RB Marshawn Lloyd won't be a starter but 'should have an early impact,' according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: The Packers may have selected the best back in this draft class when they added Lloyd in the third round. He's fast, can gash defenses as a runner or receiver, and he's an efficient runner who wastes little motion. Lloyd needs to show better ball security than he did at USC before the Packers trust him with more than a few touches as a backup behind veteran starter Josh Jacobs. |
Free-agent WRs Rory Starkey and Jalen Wayne signed undisclosed contracts with the Green Bay Packers on Friday, July 19. The Packers also waived WR Alex McGough (undisclosed) with an injury designation.
Link to storyFree-agent QB Jake Fromm (Commanders) worked out for the Green Bay Packers on Friday, July 19.
Footballguys view: The Packers have Jordan Love as their starter, but they have only Sean Clifford and rookie Michael Pratt behind him. Fromm could be a camp arm for the team, or he could push to make a spot on the practice squad with the inexperience in the quarterback room. |

Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers S Kitan Oladapo (toe) is on the Active/Non-Football Injury list because of a broken toe he suffered during the NFL Scouting Combine.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers OT Zach Tom (pectoral) could miss some time during training camp because he is recovering from a torn pectoral muscle but should be ready for the start of the regular season. He is currently on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers OT Donovan Jennings (undisclosed), TE Tucker Kraft (undisclosed), WR Alex McGough (undisclosed) and OT Zach Tom (undisclosed) were placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 17. The team also placed S Kitan Oladapo (undisclosed) on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers QB Jordan Love faced a league-high 215 blitzes in 2023, according to Pro Football Reference.
Footballguys view: Love had to go through the fire last year. Defenses were trying to test him by blitzing him early and often. Love did a fine job of standing up to the pressure, and he used his arm more than his legs to beat the blitz. He only scrambled 24 times due to the blitz. However, when he did scramble Love led the league with 8.5 yards per carry (from regular starting quarterbacks). |

Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs said he wants to show that he can be a bigger part of the passing game this season and is willing to be a blocker in the backfield in some situations.
Footballguys view: Jacobs has an everydown back profile, but Packers head coach Matt LaFleur likes to use running back committees and the team drafted Marshawn Lloyd in the third round. Lloyd has already gotten rave reviews, so we should expect the rookie to get more work than the backs behind Jacobs got with the Raiders. Still, if this offense is among the league's best and Jacobs returns to 2022 efficiency levels, he can still return value on his modest fifth round draft price in best ball leagues. |

Green Bay Packers chief operating officer Ed Policy was unanimously voted as franchise's new president and CEO, starting in July 2025.
Footballguys view: Policy, son of former San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns president Carmen Policy, will assume the role when the NFL's only publicly owned franchise holds its shareholders meeting in July 2025. That's when Mark Murphy, the Packers' president and CEO since 2008, reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70. Nobody should expect major shifts in philosophy with this change, but it's something to watch. |
Free-agent PK James Turner (Lions) was claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, June 20.
Footballguys view: The Packers have now brought in two kickers to compete with Anders Carlson. Greg Joseph, who has 4+ seasons as a starter, is Carlson's top rival in the battle, but Turner was impressing with the Lions before he was released to pick up UFL standout kicker Jake Bates. Turner was the kicker for the Michigan national championship team last season, but went undrafted in April. |
Green Bay Packers PK Jack Podlesny was released Wednesday, June 19.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers first-round draft choice OT Jordan Morgan (Arizona) signed a four-year contract worth a reported $14.185 million - including a $7.135 million signing bonus - on Thursday, June 13. The deal also includes a fifth-year team option.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers QB Jordan Love indicated he was optimistic that the team would finalize an extension with him before the start of training camp. When asked why he was optimistic, Love said, 'It's what I've heard.'
Footballguys view: Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said in a radio interview that the plan was to get something done before training camp. We think Gutekunst is one of the best GMs in the game, so consider us optimistic that something will happen. Love had some struggles early last year, but he looked like the stud quarterback the Packers were hoping he would be for most of the 2023 season. The future is bright for Love and the Packers. |

Green Bay Packers CB Carrington Valentine has been 'outstanding' during offseason practice and his improvement physically has been 'night and day' from his 2023 rookie campaign, according to head coach Matt LaFleur.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers S Kitan Oladapo (toe) is no longer wearing a walking boot after suffering a broken toe at the combine. He hopes to be ready to practice at the start of training camp.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers DE Lukas Van Ness (thumb) participated in the voluntary workout Tuesday, June 4.
Link to storyLast offseason, the Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love did a short extension to provide cushion during the quarterback's first full season as the starter. After Love impressed in 2023, sides are angling for a more significant pact this summer. General manager Brian Gutekunst acknowledged Tuesday that they hope to complete a deal before training camp kicks off in July. "We're in those conversations right now," he said. "We'd like to get this done before training camp."
Footballguys view: Gutekunst added both parties want to get a contract extension done. As NFL.com notes, so far this offseason, Jared Goff's four-year, $212 million deal is the only big-money QB extension. Trevor Lawrence, Tua Tagovailoa, and Dak Prescott join Love as other signal-callers in line for new deals. The longer clubs wait, the more expensive extensions usually become, particularly for QBs. Meanwhile, despite ongoing contract negotiations, Love has participated in voluntary offseason workouts. The quarterback showed down the stretch last year that he has the talent to keep the 30-plus years of Pro Bowl quarterback play in Green Bay chugging along. Now, the sides need to settle on a figure that keeps both parties happy for the long term. We'll be watching for more. |

Green Bay Packers second-round draft choice S Javon Bullard signed a four-year contract with the Packers Monday, June 3. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers CB Eric J. Stokes has been 'as good as I've ever seen him, both mentally and on the field,' per head coach Matt LaFluer. Stokes, who had his fifth-year option declined, is competing for a starting spot opposite CB Jaire Alexander. Stokes added that he's feeling the 'best' he has felt since entering the NFL.
Footballguys view: The Packers defense could get a big boost this year if their 2021 first round pick finally lives up to expectations. Like Christian Watson, Stokes went to the University of Wisconsin this offseason to figure out his hamstring issues. They determined the culprit was his surgically repaired foot, and it sounds like Stokes is a new man. |
Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs (hamstring) participated in some drills during the voluntary workout Wednesday, May 29.
Footballguys view: The Packers are going to be cautious with their new starter as he deals with this hamstring injury. We love Marshawn Lloyd behind Jacobs, but the rookie is going to have to wait if Jacobs is healthy. Fantasy GMs are drafting Jacobs as a low-end RB1, but the potential for him to creep near the top-5 at the position is there on this ascending offense. |

Green Bay Packers DE Lukas Van Ness (thumb) did not participate in the voluntary workout Wednesday, May 29, because he recently broke the tip of his thumb, according to head coach Matt LaFleur.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers TE Tucker Kraft (pectoral) suffered a torn pectoral muscle while lifting weights this offseason and is recovering from surgery.
Footballguys view: He is expected to return as a full participant at some point during training camp. Kraft will compete for a backup job at the tight end position behind Luke Musgrave. |
Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers second-round draft choice LB Edgerrin Cooper (Texas A&M) signed a four-year contract worth $8.599 million - including a $3.074 million signing bonus - on Thursday, May 23.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers LB Kingsley Enagbare (knee) has not had any restrictions during offseason workouts, according to head coach Matt LaFleur.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers WR Christian Watson said he is feeling completely healthy after dealing with hamstring problems in 2023 and believes he can avoid injuries this upcoming season after building symmetry in the strength of both of his legs.
Footballguys view: Earlier reports indicate Watson and the team have a special program to fix his stride, which hopefully leads to fewer hamstring problems. If you think he can stay healthy this year, Watson is a value play as a WR4 for Fantasy GMs out there. |
Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson had an asymmetrical stride, which led to persistent hamstring issues, according to offseason testing. He has worked on the strength and regaining symmetry in his stride.
Footballguys view: Reports surfaced about a special program for Watson to keep him away from hamstring injuries, and now we know what it is. If healthy, Watson should be a big part of an energized Packers' offense. That means he's a value at a WR4 pricetag...if he can stay off the injury report. |
Green Bay Packers second-round draft choice LB Edgerrin Cooper signed a four-year contract with the Packers Thursday, May 23. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers QB Jordan Love is participating in voluntary workouts even though he is looking for a long-term contract from the team.
