Free-agent WR Brandin Cooks (Bills) could be an option for the Houston Texans after the team lost WR Jayden Higgins (knee) to an injury, in the opinion of KPRC's Aaron Wilson.

Houston Texans WR Jayden Higgins (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during a joint practice Tuesday, Aug. 18, and will miss the 2026 season, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: Higgins was poised to take a big step forward this year, so this is a bummer for the Texans offense and CJ Stroud. Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel - who just returned from a hamstring injury and also missed time with a finger injury this summer - will pick up some of the slack, but the team could also just lean into the multi-tight end set trend that will help David Montgomery and the running game. Tank Dell was in street clothes at practice recently and the team said he is on his own plan regarding a timetable to return.
Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins left the team's joint practice with the Raiders early. It appeared to be a lower-body injury, Jonathan Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Footballguys view: Higgins hit the ground on a red-zone play in team drills. Athletic trainers checked him out before he walked off the field under his own power. Coach DeMeco Ryans did not offer an update after practice, but quarterback C.J. Stroud said he thinks Higgins is "fine." Higgins, who had 41 catches for 525 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie last year, has had a productive camp. Higgins is being drafted as WR53 in Round 11.
Free-agent CB Bryce Hall (Buccaneers) was signed by the Houston Texans, according to a source on Monday, Aug. 17.

Houston Texans WR Jaylin Noel (hamstring, finger) will miss a few weeks after suffering a setback, according to wide receivers coach Ben McDaniels.
Footballguys view: Noel, sidelined by a minor finger issue, was activated from the NFI list and was working off to the side in wide receiver drills to get back on the field. But Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 reports that Noel is now dealing with a hamstring injury in addition to the finger injury. It's a tough break for the Texans' second-year wideout, who, while he's expected to see a big bump in opportunities in 2026, can't seem to get on the field in training camp. We'll follow up as developments warrant.

Link to storyHouston Texans TE Brevin Jordan (knee) is considered day-to-day because of a knee injury, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans.
Footballguys view: As Fansided's Clayton Anderson noted, after missing the last two NFL seasons due to multiple knee injuries, Jordan's opportunities to show his value to the organization were slowly dissipating. That said, there is no reason to believe it's a severe injury at this point. It does put his availability for Thursday's preseason game versus the Chargers into question. According to CBSSports.com, until Jordan is back, rookie second-rounder Marlin Klein could see an uptick in reps.

Houston Texans RB Jawhar Jordan (hip) missed practice Sunday, Aug. 9, due to a strained hip flexor, according to league sources. The team is hopeful he'll be able to return in about a week. Jordan has reportedly had a strong camp, as he battles RB Noah Whittington for the No. 3 job behind new starter RB David Montgomery and primary backup RB Woody Marks.
Footballguys view: Jordan had a 100 yard game late in the season and clicked in the team's running game more than Marks did, so he was a player of note on our waiver wire watch list. Whittington is a swiss army knife back, more like Marks, so if he makes the team as the #3 over Jordan, he's less of a threat to Marks' upside if David Montgomery misses time during the season.

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) was spotted at practice Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Footballguys view: This was the next step in his recovery from a catastrophic leg injury back in 2024. It's not clear how effective Dell will be, or how big his role will be, but his quality of play in the past merits a late round pick in typical fantasy leagues, and his return should help CJ Stroud, and really the whole Texans offense.

Link to storyHouston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) will not start Texans' training camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, according to a source on Tuesday, July 28.
Footballguys view: Dell said in June that he felt he'd be ready to go at the start of training camp and it appears the Texans agree with his assessment of his health. The speedy wideout missed all of last season after suffering a severe knee injury in December 2024 and was able to do limited work during the team's offseason program. Dell had 98 catches for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two NFL seasons. His progress is notable and if he builds on it early in camp, expect his WR75 ADP to rise.

Houston Texans WR Jaylin Noel (undisclosed) will start training camp on the Active/Non-Football Injury list, according to a source on Tuesday, July 28.
Footballguys view: According to According to SI.com, it's not clear what's occurred in his situation. The second-year wideout participated fully in the Texans' offseason program without any reported injury, so something happened since the last time the team was practicing. The issue could be something as simple as an illness, or it might be a more serious injury that could keep him out of participating in practice longer. Noel was expected to compete for first-team reps in the slot after a promising finish to his rookie campaign. We'll follow up as more information comes to light.

Free-agent WR DJ Turner (Raiders) reportedly worked out with the Houston Texans, according to a source on Monday, July 20.
Link to storyHouston Texans QB Davis Mills will serve as the primary backup to QB C.J. Stroud in 2026.
Footballguys view: Mills actually played the best football of his career when Stroud went down last year and helped turn the Texans season around. He is getting seven million dollars this year, fully guaranteed on a deal signed on the eve of the 2025 season and will be a free agent in 2027.

Houston Texans WR Nico Collins was limited in minicamp, working on the side, but he said Sunday, July 19, that it was not due to any kind of injury. The coaching staff and general manager were simply holding him back as a precaution, and trying to get him ready for training camp.
Footballguys view: We'll be watching to make sure Collins isn't limited to begin camp, but there's no reason that he would be assuming the Texans are being honest here. Tank Dell's comeback from a catastrophic 2024 leg injury will be the big camp story at wide receiver for Houston.

Houston Texans fourth-round draft choice OG Febechi Nwaiwu signed a four-year contract with the Texans Wednesday, July 15, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyHouston Texans OT Braden Smith (neck) is on track for training camp after surgery to repair a neck injury in the offseason.
Footballguys view: The Texans signed Smith, previously with the Colts, to a two-year, $25 million deal. Smith is tracking toward a full recovery for training camp after being limited during the spring. Assuming he's fully healthy, he's the likely starter at right tackle in Houston.
Houston Texans RB Woody Marks has been working on learning the route tree, as it is anticipated that he will have a larger role in the passing game behind RB David Montgomery. 'He's going to get lots of opportunities. Last year we brought him along slower, which was good to help him kind of learn the game. And once he learned the game, he played a lot faster,' running backs coach and assistant head coach Danny Barrett said. 'And you can see him now playing even faster. So, his role is going to pick up some third downs, special teams. He's a kickoff return guy. But, more importantly, probably in the passing game as well.'
Footballguys view: Marks was a solid receiver in college, leading all NCAA running backs in 2021 with a ludicrous 83 receptions. He saw his workload expand late last year as a rookie, as Nick Chubb's efficiency became a concern. The Texans brought in Montgomery to be the RB1 this year, but Marks could find a role on passing downs. It's worth noting that Montgomery is no slouch of a receiver, pacing for over 50 targets per season with the Bears. However, Marks could find a consistent receiving role this season, although meaingful upside would likely require Montgomery to miss some time.

Houston Texans CB Derek Stingley Jr. was ranked the second-best cornerback in the league by league executives, coaches and scouts.
