Texans | Tank Dell practicing    Wed Aug 5, 10:24 AM

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) was spotted at practice Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Footballguys view: This was the next step in his recovery from a catastrophic leg injury back in 2024. It's not clear how effective Dell will be, or how big his role will be, but his quality of play in the past merits a late round pick in typical fantasy leagues, and his return should help CJ Stroud, and really the whole Texans offense.

Texans | Tank Dell not on PUP to start training camp    Wed Jul 29, 12:35 AM

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) will not start Texans' training camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, according to a source on Tuesday, July 28.

Footballguys view: Dell said in June that he felt he'd be ready to go at the start of training camp and it appears the Texans agree with his assessment of his health. The speedy wideout missed all of last season after suffering a severe knee injury in December 2024 and was able to do limited work during the team's offseason program. Dell had 98 catches for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two NFL seasons. His progress is notable and if he builds on it early in camp, expect his WR75 ADP to rise.

Houston Texans WR Jaylin Noel (undisclosed) will start training camp on the Active/Non-Football Injury list, according to a source on Tuesday, July 28.

Footballguys view: According to According to SI.com, it's not clear what's occurred in his situation. The second-year wideout participated fully in the Texans' offseason program without any reported injury, so something happened since the last time the team was practicing. The issue could be something as simple as an illness, or it might be a more serious injury that could keep him out of participating in practice longer. Noel was expected to compete for first-team reps in the slot after a promising finish to his rookie campaign. We'll follow up as more information comes to light.

Texans | Davis Mills locked into backup role    Sun Jul 19, 06:08 PM

Houston Texans QB Davis Mills will serve as the primary backup to QB C.J. Stroud in 2026.

Footballguys view: Mills actually played the best football of his career when Stroud went down last year and helped turn the Texans season around. He is getting seven million dollars this year, fully guaranteed on a deal signed on the eve of the 2025 season and will be a free agent in 2027.

Texans | Nico Collins explains limited workload    Sun Jul 19, 01:07 PM

Houston Texans WR Nico Collins was limited in minicamp, working on the side, but he said Sunday, July 19, that it was not due to any kind of injury. The coaching staff and general manager were simply holding him back as a precaution, and trying to get him ready for training camp.

Footballguys view: We'll be watching to make sure Collins isn't limited to begin camp, but there's no reason that he would be assuming the Texans are being honest here. Tank Dell's comeback from a catastrophic 2024 leg injury will be the big camp story at wide receiver for Houston.

Texans | Woody Marks working on route tree    Sun Jul 12, 01:27 PM

Houston Texans RB Woody Marks has been working on learning the route tree, as it is anticipated that he will have a larger role in the passing game behind RB David Montgomery. 'He's going to get lots of opportunities. Last year we brought him along slower, which was good to help him kind of learn the game. And once he learned the game, he played a lot faster,' running backs coach and assistant head coach Danny Barrett said. 'And you can see him now playing even faster. So, his role is going to pick up some third downs, special teams. He's a kickoff return guy. But, more importantly, probably in the passing game as well.'

Footballguys view: Marks was a solid receiver in college, leading all NCAA running backs in 2021 with a ludicrous 83 receptions. He saw his workload expand late last year as a rookie, as Nick Chubb's efficiency became a concern. The Texans brought in Montgomery to be the RB1 this year, but Marks could find a role on passing downs. It's worth noting that Montgomery is no slouch of a receiver, pacing for over 50 targets per season with the Bears. However, Marks could find a consistent receiving role this season, although meaingful upside would likely require Montgomery to miss some time.

Texans | Jaylin Noel poised for larger role in 2026    Tue Jul 7, 02:49 PM

Houston Texans WR Jaylin Noel could take on a larger role in the offense if WR Tank Dell (knee) is not back to 100%. He could find himself earning the team's slot receiver role, according to ESPN's Aaron Schatz.

Footballguys view: Schatz contends that Noel's 4.38-second 40-yard dash speed shows that he can be a serious threat, but he is also good at finding holes in zones. Noel had 26 catches for 292 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie. Expect him to be available on your waiver wire after the season begins.

Texans | New workload for Woody Marks     Mon Jul 6, 12:08 AM

Houston Texans RB Woody Marks' role this season is expected to include more pass-catching duties and a new role on kickoff returns.

Footballguys view: Marks emerged as the starting running back as a rookie, replacing Nick Chubb as the primary centerpiece of an up-and-down running game. This year, Marks is adapting smoothly to a complementary role behind featured veteran David Montgomery after an offseason trade for the former Lion and Bear. "I think the key for Woody is understanding his role, which he does," RBs coach and assistant head coach Danny Barrett told KPRC 2. "He's going to get lots of opportunities." But those opportunities will come behind Montgomery. Marks is currently being drafted as RB42 in Round 11.

Texans | Tank Dell may be lower on depth chart    Fri Jul 3, 12:17 AM

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell will likely be behind WRs Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel at the start of the 2026 season since Dell has not played since 2024, in the opinion of The Houston Chronicle's Jonathan M. Alexander.

Footballguys view: Dell, who was dynamic during his rookie season and had a couple of 100-yard games in his second season, will likely begin the year behind Higgins and Noel simply because he hasn't played since his December 2024 knee injury. Dell's progress in training camp will be worth watching. But Higgins was much better over the second half of the season than he was in the first half, and he'll likely build on that with more experience. And Noel has shown he can make big plays. The Texans will try to utilize him more.

Texans | OC, C.J. Stroud improve communication    Fri Jul 3, 12:16 AM

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud has shown improved communication with offensive coordinator Nick Caley this offseason, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans.

Footballguys view: The growth between Stroud and Caley throughout the offseason was evident for those around the organization. That's not inferring there was friction between the two during their first season together, but growing pains aren't uncommon in the NFL -- especially with Caley being a first-time playcaller. The team expects progress in Year 2 under Caley. The offense finished 13th in points (23.8) and 18th in yards (327), and Stroud finished last year with 3,041 passing yards and 19 touchdowns in 14 games (he missed three games with a concussion). We'll be watching the Texans' training camp for continued improvement.

Texans | HOU tight ends to see bigger offensive role    Sun Jun 28, 10:52 AM

Houston Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley said that he wants to give the team's tight ends an increased role in the offense in 2026, after they fought through various injuries last season. TE Dalton Schultz missed Houston's playoff game due to a strained calf, TE Cade Stover was sidelined for an extended period after breaking his foot in the season opener and TE Brevin Jordan sustained a torn patellar tendon in training camp, leading to the Texans deploying OT/TE Blake Fisher as their main blocking tight end.

Footballguys view: There's nothing actionable here for fantasy with Schultz on the fringe of fantasy relevance, but it would complicated a second year breakout for Jayden Higgins or comeback story for Tank Dell if the tight end group took targets away from a wide receiver group that only has one full-time player (Nico Collins). It would help CJ Stroud if the pass offense was more diverse and effective in personnel sets, and more tight end targets would do that.

  Texans | C.J. Stroud finding a rhythm    Fri Jun 26, 02:19 PM

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud has shown a different comfort level with the offense throughout the spring, according to offensive coordinator Nick Caley.

Footballguys view: There have been plenty of positive reports about Stroud this offseason. Are these reports fluff, or is this a drumbeat Fantasy GMs should pay attention to? We feel it's the latter, and Stroud could provide value as a QB2 or superflex option.

Texans | C.J. Stroud not close to deal    Wed Jun 24, 01:10 PM

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud is not close to an agreement on a contract extension with the Texans at this point, according to ESPN.com's DJ Bien-Aime.

Footballguys view: Bien-Aime noted that Houston and its quarterback are in a tricky spot because last season did not end the way either would've preferred. Stroud threw four interceptions against the Patriots in the AFC divisional round. A performance like that can cause hesitation when the extension for Stroud could be in the $55 million to $60 million range per year. With how negotiations are currently going, it's gearing up to be a prove-it season for Stroud. Given his QB23 ADP, fantasy investors see it the same way.

Texans | Rookie WR Lewis Bond draws attention with solid OTAs    Tue Jun 23, 12:53 PM

WR Lewis Bond, a 2026 sixth-round pick, practiced with the second-team offense and has made plays with the group.

Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's DJ Bien-Aime, Lewis has turned heads throughout the offseason to the point that he has an online team fanbase called the Lewis Bond Fan Club. It's early -- and the Texans have a talented group of wideouts in Nico Collins, Jayden Higgins, Tank Dell, Jaylin Noel, and Xavier Hutchinson, so we need to see if he can continue this performance into training camp. But Bien-Aime believes this is a great start for the former Boston College standout.

Texans | Tank Dell sees light at end of tunnel    Sun Jun 14, 03:50 PM

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) is nearly back from a lengthy and arduous rehab process since going down with a serious knee injury in 2024. He missed the entire 2025 season as a result of the injury. 'It's been a roller coaster ride, to say the least,' Dell said Saturday, June 13. 'It's been a long journey, but I'm built for it, and I'm ready for it, and I was ready for it. I'm getting through it, and it's light at the end of the tunnel, so I'm almost there.'

Footballguys view: It's not clear how much of his quickness and speed Dell will recover, or how large his role will be. The Texans don't need him to play a big role with 2025 draft picks (and Iowa State teammates) Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins both garnering rave reviews in minicamp and OTAs. Dell should be added in deep dynasty leagues, and the better his recovery goes, the better the chance CJ Stroud and the Texans pass offense improves this year.

Texans | Jaylin Noel pushing for more    Sat Jun 13, 01:10 PM

Houston Texans WR Jaylin Noel has been 'making waves' during OTAs and minicamp, according to Jared Koch of SI.com, and Noel said he is ready to take on a bigger role. 'Being able to be a gamechanger, being able to make big plays, I think that's what I bring to the Texans,' Noel said.

Footballguys view: Watch out for a second-year breakout here. He's been working this offseason as the first-team's slot receiver, and that fits perfectly with Noel's skill set. He's a WR4/5 for Fantasy GMs, but the upside is there for him to move into weekly flex consideration.

Texans | C.J. Stroud to make a jump?    Fri Jun 12, 05:43 PM

Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud has a better grasp of offensive coordinator Nick Caley's system, especially when it comes to pre-snap operation, according to quarterbacks coach Jerry Schuplinski.

Footballguys view: Stroud also could get Tank Dell back, and 2025 second day draft picks Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel both look ready to do more in their second seasons. Stroud is an afterthought in 1QB leagues and a bargain in superflex leagues right now.

Texans | David Montgomery seen as a 'three-down back'    Thu Jun 11, 02:05 PM

Houston Texans RB coach Danny Barrett described RB David Montgomery, saying, 'He's a three-down back. He can do it all.'

Footballguys view: Montgomery can do it all. The veteran was traded for in early March, and he should be the lead back for the Texans this year. Woody Marks can provide some juice as a reserve runner and receiver out of the backfield. As a lead back for the Texans, we like Montgomery as an RB2/flex option for Fantasy GMs out there.

Houston Texans TE Marlin Klein missed OTA practices this week due to a hamstring injury. It is not considered to make him miss an extended time.

Footballguys view: A second-round pick out of Michigan, Klein is likely third on the depth chart behind Dalton Schultz and Foster Moreau. Klein has speed for the position and soft hands, but it will take time for him to get learn the pro game. We do appreciate his skill set in dynasty formats.

Texans | Tank Dell seeing more work    Fri Jun 5, 12:51 AM

Houston Texans WR Tank Dell (knee) has been more involved in the voluntary workouts as the offseason has gone on and is expected to do more when training camp begins.

Footballguys view: Good news for the Texans here, so long as Dell can stay healthy. Dell had been working off to the side with trainers as he comes back from another injury. Now, he's working in team drills with the idea he can do more later in the summer. Dell is a playmaker, but his injury history makes him a player to only monitor on the waiver wire from a fantasy perspective.

Texans | Jayden Higgins showing improvement    Mon Jun 1, 04:17 PM

Houston Texans WR Jayden Higgins has looked bigger and faster this offseason, and head coach DeMeco Ryans said he expects a terrific season from Higgins in 2026.

Footballguys view: Higgins quickly emerged as a solid No. 2 option in the passing game opposite Pro Bowler Nico Collins last season. The Texans' top pick in the second round, Higgins finished with 41 catches for 525 yards and tied Collins for the team lead with six scores while averaging 12.8 yards per catch. " I know he's going to have a really good year based on how he looks right now," Ryan said. "He's ready to roll." Higgins, being drafted as WR56 this year, has great upside at that price.
