Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters before this news, "We'll evaluate Joe throughout the week. Hopefully he's okay." Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) will be evaluated Monday, Sept. 16, after suffering a sprained ankle Sunday night.
| Footballguys view: Mixon was injured on what appeared to be a hip-drop tackle by Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards and he took issue with the lack of a penalty flag on social media after the game. Mixon was hurt in the third quarter and ran once while playing seven snaps after returning later in the second half. Mixon posted Sunday night: "The NFL and NFLPA made it a rule and an emphasis for a reason. Time to put your money where your mouth is." Cam Akers was next man up with Dameon Pierce sidelined by a hamstring injury against Chicago. We'll be watching for more on Mixon and the plan at the position going forward. |

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) suffered an apparent right ankle injury in the third quarter of the Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears, and he initially headed to the blue medical tent before eventually heading to the locker room.
| Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com suggested: "The NFL has banned the hip drop tackle . . . except they haven't." PFT's Charean Williams explained officials aren't calling the penalty on the field but instead letting the league office handle it with fines during the week. The NFL fined two players for hip drop tackles that were not penalized in Week 1. Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards can expect his fine letter this week. Edwards had a classic hip-drop tackle; Mixon's ankle turned as Edwards was dragging him down illegally. Mixon is having X-rays and will likely need further testing on Monday. As for Sunday night's game, backup Dameon Pierce is inactive, leaving Cam Akers to make his Texans debut in Mixon's absence. |

Mixon had only one 100-yard game for Cincinnati last season, rushing for 111 in Week 17. Early indications are that Mixon will benefit significantly from both volume and a high-powered offense in Houston. |
