Texans | Dalton Schultz not on field Monday    Tue Jul 23, 01:30 AM

Houston Texans TE Dalton Schultz (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Monday, July 22.

Footballguys view: We'll continue watching this, but Schultz's injury seems like a minor issue. More to the point, while he was a solid starting option for fantasy managers last year, the arrival of Stefon Diggs will make it difficult for Schultz to repeat his TE10 showing last year.

Footballguys view: "Joe may miss a little time, but he'll be fine," Ryans said. "Joe's one of the toughest competitors we have. He'll be fine -- no issues there." Ryans did not disclose what's keeping Mixon off the field. We'll continue to monitor this, but the low level of concern combined with the talk of a heavy workload coming for Mixon signal a minor issue.

Texans | Cam Akers signing with Texans    Mon Jul 22, 11:58 AM

Free-agent RB Cam Akers (Vikings) is signing with the Houston Texans, per source on Sunday, July 21. The terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Footballguys view: The Texans worked out Akers, Deon Jackson, and Ke'Shawn Vaughn Sunday before signing Akers late in the day. Akers, coming off a torn left Achilles tendon suffered in Week 9 as a member of the Vikings, will battle for a roster spot behind 2021 Pro Bowler Joe Mixon, whom the Texans traded for in March and gave a three-year, $27 million contract extension, and Dameon Pierce.

Texans | Cam Akers works out for Houston    Sun Jul 21, 02:33 PM

Free-agent RB Cam Akers (Vikings) worked out for the Houston Texans, according to sources Sunday, July 21.

Footballguys view: Here's another veteran back working out for the Texans. They worked out Deon Jackson on Friday, and now Akers gets a look. Clearly, the team is looking for veteran depth at the position. Starting RB Joe Mixon is expecting a heavy workload, so he may be limited during camp and the preseason.

Texans | Kenyon Green in better shape    Sun Jul 21, 11:52 AM

Houston Texans OG Kenyon Green (shoulder) missed the entire 2023 season because of a torn labrum in his shoulder but also used the rehab time to lose excess weight and reduce his body fat percentage. According to head coach DeMeco Ryans, Green is now at full strength and he is considered the favorite to start at left guard for the Texans in 2024.

Texans | Joe Mixon expects a lot of work    Sat Jul 20, 10:06 AM

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon said he expects to receive a heavy workload this season with the Texans.

Footballguys view: It's pretty much a consistent drumbeat of the offseason. Yes, Mixon is set to carry a large workload for the Texans. We may not see much of the veteran in the preseason because they'll work him into the ground during the regular season. Behind Mixon, Dameon Pierce should be the primary backup. From a fantasy perspective, Mixon is an RB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs.

Texans | Joe Mixon preparing for heavy workload    Fri Jul 19, 12:39 PM

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon is preparing for a heavy workload, he told reporters Friday, July 19.

Footballguys view: The veteran back is fired up for his first season in Houston. Mixon was a centerpiece for the Bengals to start his career, and now he's ready for a starter's workload with the Texans. We have Mixon ranked as RB15 which means he's an RB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs out there.

Texans | Noah Brown expected to be on field    Thu Jul 18, 01:57 AM

Houston Texans WR Noah Brown (shoulder) is expected to be on the field at some point during training camp. He underwent shoulder surgery during the offseason.

Footballguys view: Brown has talent, but he's further pushed down the depth chart when the Texans added Stefon Diggs. If healthy, Brown gives the team another deep threat and a veteran on the depth chart.

Texans | Nico Collins earned C.J. Stroud's trust in 2023    Wed Jul 17, 12:38 AM

Houston Texans WR Nico Collins caught 80 of 109 targets for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns - and only two of the throws in his direction were intercepted - during the 2023 season, according to Pro Football Reference.

Footballguys view: This combination was dangerous last year, and it should be even better this season. The resulting 129.6 passer rating on throws in Collins' direction was the highest for any wide receiver with at least 50 targets last season. As Stroud gets better at on-target throws (his 19.9 bad throw percentage ranked 2nd in the NFL last year), his connection with Collins will become even stronger.

Texans | Nico Collins a menace after the catch    Fri Jul 5, 02:51 PM

Houston Texans WR Nico Collins led the league with 16 broken tackles on receptions in 2023, according to Pro Football Reference.

Footballguys view: Collins is a big-bodied receiver who is tough to bring down when he builds a head of steam. We're excited for the Texans' passing game to continue featuring Collins as QB CJ Stroud builds off his great rookie season. The addition of WR Stefon Diggs should open things up for Collins to get plenty of one-on-one opportunities in 2024.

Texans | Joe Mixon confident in OC    Thu Jun 27, 08:19 AM

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon said he believes offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik will be using all of his skill set this season.

Footballguys view: Mixon isn't as explosive as he used to be, but he is still functional in all aspects of the running back position and he'll be facing defenses with light boxes stressed out by the Texans passing game. He is falling to the fifth round or later of early best ball drafts, which seems like a great value for a clear lead back in a top offense.

Texans | John Metchie III Flashing His Talent    Mon Jun 24, 05:23 PM

WR John Metchie III is flashing signs of what made him a second-round pick in the 2022 draft. Last year was the former Alabama standout's first season since tearing an ACL in December 2021 and being diagnosed with cancer in 2022. The long layoff showed as he finished with 16 catches for 158 yards. But ESPN.com's DJ Bien-Aime reports that Metchie's explosiveness appears back.

Footballguys view: Bien-Aime reports that Metchie has also been in the rotation with the first-team offense. So, even though the receiver room has Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Stefon Diggs, Metchie is positioning himself for a rotational role if he has a strong training camp. However, Noah Brown is also in the mix there, and he's proven more than capable of delivering in game circumstances.

Texans | Keenum: Stefon Diggs Hasn't Lost A Step    Mon Jun 24, 04:55 PM

Case Keenum reunited with his first-ever NFL team last year by signing with the Texans. Now, in 2024, he's back again with Stefon Diggs, with whom he shared his greatest career moment -- the Minneapolis Miracle -- a wide receiver Keenum believes "hasn't lost a step" and is still operating at the peak of his talents. "If anything, [Diggs] has gotten more savviness and can put some extra sauce on some routes when he needs to and win. He's done a great job of continuing to build his craft and work his tools, his tool set, and I'm excited to see what he can do in the fall."

Footballguys view: Keenum believes Diggs, who turns 31 this November, still possesses the tools to dominate. The veteran receiver will also benefit from less attention from opposing defenses than he saw in Buffalo, thanks to Houston's stacked WR corps. Diggs will work alongside breakout star Nico Collins and ascending talent Tank Dell in a passing attack led by reigning Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud. Next up for fantasy managers? Getting a better feel for the receiving pecking order when training camp opens. Stay tuned.

Texans | John Metchie showing growth    Thu Jun 20, 03:42 PM

Houston Texans WR John Metchie had made a significant leap, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. 'You talk about a guy that's improved a lot through these OTAs and minicamp,' Ryans said. 'He's looking more explosive this second time around.'

Footballguys view: Not that C.J. Stroud needs any more weapons. This just makes the Texans passing game more wide receiver injury proof, but even without Metchie coming on last year, Stroud was able to make Noah Brown fantasy relevant when Tank Dell and/or Nico Collins was out last year. Metchie has already recovered from leukemia during his NFL career, so this is great news that puts him back on our dynasty radar.
