Dolphins | No Decision On Placing Tua Tagovailoa On IR Yet Mon Sep 16, 01:55 PM
A decision about whether the Dolphins will put quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on injured reserve has not been made yet. That was the word from head coach Mike McDaniel at a Monday press conference that opened up with an update on Tagovailoa's condition. Tagovailoa suffered a concussion last Thursday night and McDaniel said Tagovailoa was "smiling with teammates" at the facility on Monday. McDaniel said Tagovailoa is "doing well today" and that the team expects to have a better idea of what they'll do regarding a roster move in the coming days. "Not enough information quite yet," McDaniel said. "That's gonna be driven by medical experts and when we get the appropriate information and discuss with Tua then [General Manager Chris Grier] and I can discuss that." McDaniel declined to comment on a report about Tagovailoa's desire to keep playing and said it was up to the player to share his thoughts on that because he's "worried about the human being" at the moment. The Dolphins plan to roll with Sklyar Thompson as their starter in Tua's absence, but they signed Tyler Huntley off Baltimore's practice squad on Monday to provide depth at the position.
Footballguys view: McDaniel said Tagovailoa is "doing well today" and that the team expects to have a better idea of what they'll do regarding a roster move in the coming days. Link to storyPanthers | Bryce Young benched Mon Sep 16, 01:43 PM
Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young will be benched in favor of Andy Dalton, according to sources Monday, Sept. 16.
Footballguys view: Coach Dave Canales has repeatedly said, "Bryce is our quarterback." But with the season quickly slipping away, Canales decided to make a change. Dalton is 83-78 as an NFL starting quarterback. Now, at age 36, Dalton gets a chance to try to save Carolina's season, while 23-year-old Young goes to the bench. Through two games, Young had thrown for 245 yards with three interceptions and a 44.1 passer rating in a pair of ugly Carolina losses. It's fair to wonder if the window on his time in Carolina has closed. At the very least, a reset is necessary for Young and all involved -- especially players like Diontae Johnson, who might become a more viable fantasy play with a better triggerman. |

Browns | David Njoku could return this week Mon Sep 16, 01:43 PM
Cleveland Browns TE David Njoku (ankle) could return for the Week 3 game against the New York Giants, head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Monday, Sept. 16.
Footballguys view: Njoku has been characterized as week-to-week due to the ankle injury he suffered against Dallas in Week 1. Jordan Akins started at tight end Week 2 with Njoku inactive, but he was targeted just once in Cleveland's win over Jacksonville. As USA Today suggested, after he played through severe burns a year ago, the notion that Njoku will get back on the field more quickly than expected isn't a reach. We'll continue to watch for more on this. |

Chargers | Justin Herbert's X-Rays Negative; More Testing To Come Mon Sep 16, 01:43 PM
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was able to finish Sunday's win over the Panthers despite his leg getting, as he termed it, "rolled up." But Herbert did admit his leg "was a little sore" and that he underwent an X-ray. Via Daniel Popper of TheAthletic.com, head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that Herbert's X-rays were negative -- which is good news.
Footballguys view: Harbaugh also was asked if Herbert had undergone an MRI and said, "I'm sure there'll be further evaluations as the week goes on." After briefly heading to the sideline medical tent, Herbert did not miss a snap. He finished the game 14-of-20 passing for 130 yards with two touchdowns, an interception, and a lost fumble. We'll have more on Herbert when the Chargers begin prepping for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh. |

Vikings | O'Connell Characterizes Justin Jefferson As Day To Day Mon Sep 16, 01:43 PM
Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson downplayed the quad injury that knocked him out of the team's win over the 49ers in the locker room on Sunday, and it doesn't sound like things got any worse overnight. Head coach Kevin O'Connell gave an update on Jefferson's condition during his Monday press conference, and the word continues to be good about Jefferson's chances of playing against the Texans in Week 3. "Justin did come in today feeling pretty good, which was a positive based upon the initial quad contusion that kinda happened on that run play," O'Connell said. "We'll be day-to-day with Justin. We'll keep you guys posted throughout the week on his workload and what it looks like for Sunday, but pretty positive in the early returns there."
Footballguys view: Missing time on Sunday didn't keep Jefferson from adding to a resume that has him on track to put up some of the biggest numbers of any receiver in the league's history. If all goes according to plan, he'll be back to it next Sunday. We will continue to follow his progress closely as the team begins preparations for Houston on Wednesday. |

Browns | David Bell needs surgery Mon Sep 16, 01:24 PM
Cleveland Browns WR David Bell (hip) needs surgery after suffering a dislocated hip in Week 2, head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Monday, Sept. 16. His timeline for return was not immediately revealed.
Footballguys view: A third-round pick in 2022, Bell had caught three passes for 27 yards in Sunday's game. Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, and Elijah Moore remain the top three options at wideout in Cleveland, with or without Bell. |
Browns | Pierre Strong week-to-week Mon Sep 16, 01:20 PM
Cleveland Browns RB Pierre Strong (hamstring) is considered week-to-week, head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Monday, Sept. 16.
Footballguys view: It's worth noting the Browns were rolling with a three-man backfield committee in Sunday's win over the Jaguars until Strong was hurt. While Jerome Ford was the clear-cut lead back in Week 2, the workload was more divided in Week 2. As Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke explained, D'Onta Foreman only played one snap in the first game but started this game with seven snaps on the first drive in Jacksonville. In the first half, Ford played 14 of a possible 36 snaps, while Foreman played 12 and Strong played nine. Cutting this back to a two-man rotation could be enough to make Foreman fantasy relevant any given week. |
Giants | Graham Gano out a few weeks Mon Sep 16, 01:07 PM
New York Giants PK Graham Gano (hamstring) is expected to miss a few weeks, head coach Brian Daboll told reporters Monday, Sept. 16.
Footballguys view: Gano was hurt on the opening kickoff but also came into the game with a groin injury, and punter Jamie Gillan missed an extra point after the team's first touchdown. They failed to score on two two-point tries later in the game and chose to pass on a short field goal late in the fourth quarter because of the lack of a kicker. As Profootballtalk.com notes, Daboll faced questions and outside criticism about why the team didn't have another kicking option available after the 21-18 loss. They have Jude McAtamney on the practice squad, and Daboll said on Monday that the team will work out other kickers as well, so it seems they'll have someone available to perform kicking duties in Week 3. |

Lions | Amon-Ra St. Brown Should Be Fine For Week 3 Mon Sep 16, 01:07 PM
Detroit Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown initially was determined to have only a contusion and cramping despite hobbling throughout Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Footballguys view: St. Brown left the game with about 30 seconds remaining after hauling in a reception on the first play of the Lions' final drive. He did not return for the Lions' last five plays of the 20-16 loss and was seen on the sideline undergoing treatment and evaluation on his legs. Head coach Dan Campbell said Sunday that Brown was "all right," adding that he didn't think the injury was "anything long-term, so that's good news." The Lions visit the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. |

Chiefs | Isiah Pacheco to IR Mon Sep 16, 09:46 AM
Updating an earlier report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco (leg) will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list and miss a minimum of four weeks.
Footballguys view: Pacheco has been the Chiefs' leading rusher in each of the past two seasons. Given the initial diagnosis, Footballguy injury expert Adam Hutchison believes the likely best-case scenario is an eight-week absence. But 12 weeks or more is possible, depending on the ancillary ligament and tendon damage. The Chiefs have undrafted rookie Carson Steele and veteran Samaje Perine at running back. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the Chiefs' leading rusher in 2020 and a former first-round draft pick, is on the non-football injury list. The earliest he could return to play for the Chiefs is a Week 5 game against the New Orleans Saints. Keontay Ingram and Emani Bailey are currently on the practice squad. As previously noted, former Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon remains a free agent, and the team could explore trade opportunities. We'll continue to watch for more on the Chiefs' plan to cover for Pacheco's absence. |
Chiefs | Isiah Pacheco has fractured fibula Mon Sep 16, 09:29 AM
Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco (leg) suffered a fractured fibula, based on initial tests, and he will receive further evaluation.
Footballguys view: Initial tests show Pacheco fractured the fibula in Sunday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, per sources informed of the situation. The bulldozing running back will have more tests to determine if there is associated damage -- i.e., ligament issues -- before K.C. knows the anticipated recovery timetable. However, Pacheco will be going on injured reserve, which means he's out for at least four weeks. Fantasy managers, however, should plan for a more prolonged absence based on this information. |
Texans | Joe Mixon being evaluated Mon Sep 16, 09:28 AM
Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) will be evaluated Monday, Sept. 16, after suffering a sprained ankle Sunday night.
Footballguys view: Mixon was injured on what appeared to be a hip-drop tackle by Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards and he took issue with the lack of a penalty flag on social media after the game. Mixon was hurt in the third quarter and ran once while playing seven snaps after returning later in the second half. Mixon posted Sunday night: "The NFL and NFLPA made it a rule and an emphasis for a reason. Time to put your money where your mouth is." Cam Akers was next man up with Dameon Pierce sidelined by a hamstring injury against Chicago. We'll be watching for more on Mixon and the plan at the position going forward. |

Link to storyBengals | Joe Burrow's Performance In Loss Encouraging Sun Sep 15, 11:58 PM
After Week 1, folks were rightfully worried about the Bengals. They lacked fight in their season-opening loss to New England, and conspiracy theorists believed much of it had to do with Joe Burrow's wrist. Well, we can put those concerns to bed, because Burrow looked pretty good, completing 23 of 36 passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com's Ben Baby wrote, "Cincinnati couldn't have asked for a more encouraging showing from Burrow." After the downfield passing attack was absent toward the end of training camp and in the season opener, Burrow was more willing to push the ball deep. He also embraced contact without any reservations, which led to some important gains (and a fumble that was returned for a touchdown). But the outing bodes well for Burrow as he continues to come back from the right wrist injury that ended his previous season. Adding to the positive vibes, the Bengals will face a generous Commanders pass defense in Week 3. |

Bears | Caleb Williams Has Tough Night In Loss To Texans Sun Sep 15, 11:58 PM
Sunday was a rough night for the Bears and Caleb Williams. The No. 1 overall pick was sacked seven times and threw two interceptions in the 19-13 prime-time loss in Houston.
Footballguys view: After struggling with his accuracy against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, Williams was sharp off the bat Sunday in Houston. The No. 1 overall pick went 5-for-5 for 55 yards on the Bears' opening drive, including two impressive third-down strikes to DeAndre Carter and DJ Moore. Williams went 12-for-15 for 91 yards in the first half, but the Bears' constant miscues prevented him and the offense from finding a rhythm. Williams finished the night 23-for-37 for 174 yards and two interceptions. The lack of protection led to some rushed throws and poor decisions. Williams was sacked seven times and rarely had a clean pocket to throw. As Yahoo's Josh Schrock suggested, life with a rookie quarterback can be challenging in the NFL. Still, the Bears' mental errors, shoddy execution, and inability to protect Williams made it much more difficult Sunday night. The Bears play the Colts in Indianapolis in Week 3. |
