Raiders | Davis Webb on Raiders' head coach list Wed Jan 7, 01:48 PM
The Las Vegas Raiders requested an interview with Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb for their head coaching job.
Footballguys view: A former quarterback in the NFL (not that long ago), Webb is now considered an up-and-coming coach because of the work he's done with Bo Nix. Webb has learned from Sean Payton, and he's likely to be a head coach soon. Perhaps it's a year early for Webb, but it won't be long before he gets to run his own team.

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll was fired Monday, Jan. 5.
Footballguys view: The team fired the 74-year-old coach after it went 3-14 this season, which ended with a 14-12 win over the Chiefs on Sunday. Before the game, Las Vegas had lost 10 straight and already had wrapped up the No. 1 selection in the 2026 NFL draft. Raiders owner Mark Davis said in a statement that GM John Spytek, who was hired along with Carroll last year, will lead football operations with minority owner Tom Brady, including the search for the team's next coach. We'll be following up in coming days.

Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith (ankle) may have a hard time to recover from his injury before the Week 18 game, according to head coach Pete Carroll.
Footballguys view: Carroll characterized the injury as a high-ankle sprain in his post-game press conference. That puts Kenny Pickett in line to start against the Chiefs, with the Raiders' first overall pick on the line, with Aidan O'Connell or rookie Cam Miller standing by behind him. Bigger picture, Smith, who has a $26.5 million cap hit in 2026, may have played his last snap in Vegas. Remember, the team can release him to save $8 million with an $18.5 million dead cap hit. Regardless, we'll be watching for more on that.

Geno Smith, who was booed in pregame introductions in Las Vegas, passed for 176 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions before leaving Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Giants early in the fourth quarter with the ankle injury.
Footballguys view: Kenny Pickett replaced him and completed both passes for 16 yards. Las Vegas (2-14) will secure the top pick with a loss next week to Kansas City, and Smith is unlikely to play because of what head coach Pete Carroll characterized as a high ankle sprain. The Raiders' skid reached 10 games, which matches last season's streak for the fifth-longest in franchise history. Smith, who's thrown a league-high 17 interceptions, has played a role in that. It will be an offseason of change for the Raiders, and Smith is likely to be part of that.

Las Vegas Raiders TE Brock Bowers (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Dec. 24.
Footballguys view: Bowers has been bothered by this knee injury for some time, and the Raiders decided to shut him down with nothing left to play for. They've been short on talent over the last two years, but they've got an All-Pro level tight end in Bowers. It would be great if the team got the right quarterback and offensive coordinator to get the most out of his immense talent.
