Chiefs | Justin Watson does not practice Fri Jul 26, 08:05 PM
Kansas City Chiefs WR Justin Watson (foot) did not participate in practice Friday, July 26. Head coach Andy Reid said there is no timetable for Watson's return and that the team considers him day-to-day.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (illness) participated in practice Friday, July 26, after being sidelined for a few days because of an illness.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs LB Luquay Washington was waived on Friday, July 26. The Chiefs also signed DE Owen Carney to replace him on the roster.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs WR Justin Watson (foot) exited practice early on Wednesday, July 24, with an unspecified foot injury.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (illness) remains out of practice Wednesday, July 24.
Footballguys view: Worthy is super fast, and he basically teleports down the field (think young DeSean Jackson). However, he's missed time this offseason due to hamstring problems and now is out of action due to illness. We are quite a way from the start of the regular season, but Worthy is a player we're excited about - when he's healthy. |
Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (illness) did not participate in practice Tuesday, July 23.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs RB Deneric Prince ran with the first-team offense after RB Isiah Pacheco Tuesday, July 23.
Footballguys view: Prince joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. While getting turns with the first team is a positive, remember the Chiefs re-signed Clyde Edwards-Helaire this offseason. Edwards-Helaire was removed from the non-football injury list Sunday and is slated to continue to serve as a backup to Isiah Pacheco in 2024. |
Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (illness) did not participate in practice Monday, July 22, because of an illness.
Footballguys view: Worthy went viral for hooking up with quarterback Patrick Mahomes for a long touchdown catch in the team's first 11-on-11 work of the summer, but the illness kept him from another big day Monday. As PFT suggests, the good news is that it is not a recurrence of the hamstring trouble that sidelined the speedy receiver during OTAs. The hope is that he'll be back without missing much time. |
Kansas City Chiefs WR Marquise Brown is a possible candidate to be a punt returner this season, according to head coach Andy Reid.
Footballguys view: As PFT's Myles Simmons notes, Brown has not returned a punt since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2019. He's played only two special teams snaps in his pro entire career, one of which was a 30-yard kick return for Baltimore in 2020. Going further back, Brown didn't return punts at Oklahoma either -- but did perform those duties at junior college while at College of the Canyons. The Chiefs have several options to return punts on their roster, including Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy, who averaged 16.9 yards per punt return at Texas last year. |

Kansas City Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney was working with the running backs in drills during training camp practice on Sunday, July 21.
Footballguys view: Operating primarily as a receiver, Toney's 2023 was disastrous with Kansas City. He finished with just 27 catches for 169 yards and one touchdown and made critical mistakes throughout the season. The 25-year-old posted several highlight-worthy drops -- including in Week 1, leading to a pick-six in a loss to the Lions -- and dropped 12.9 percent of his passes, the 11th-highest among receivers with 30-plus targets last year. With the Chiefs adding Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy at wideout, Toney might need to find different ways to produce to secure a roster spot. |

Free-agent S Tyree Gillespie (Chiefs) signed with the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, July 22. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Kansas City Chiefs S Trey Dean was waived Monday, July 22, according to a source.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (undisclosed) was removed from the active/non-football injury list on Sunday, July 21.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs re-signed Edwards-Helaire this offseason. The 2020 first-round pick had 441 carries for 1,845 yards and 12 touchdowns over his first four seasons in Kansas City. He'll continue to serve as a backup to Isiah Pacheco in 2024. |

Link to storyKansas City Chiefs S Justin Reid (quadriceps) was placed on the non-football injury/illness list on Sunday, July 21.

Kansas City Chiefs TE Gerrit Prince (undisclosed) was wearing a walking boot and did not participate in practice Friday, July 19.
Footballguys view: Undrafted out of UAB in 2022 (Jaguars), Prince was added by the Chiefs about a year ago and spent the 2023 season on their practice squad. He was a long shot to make the 53-man roster this year, especially after the Chiefs drafted a potential star TE in Jared Wiley from TCU in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft. |
Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs DE B.J. Thompson (heart) was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list on Wednesday, July 17.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (hamstring) participated in practice Wednesday, July 17.
Footballguys view: Hamstring injuries can linger for speedy players like Worthy. He can absolutely fly down the field, and in this offense that could mean a bunch of big plays. Let's see Worthy stay healthy and get up to speed in the NFL game. We love him as a late-round flier (WR4/WR5) in fantasy leagues because of his skill and his quarterback. |
Kansas City Chiefs OG Joe Thuney (pectoral), DT Derrick Nnadi (triceps), DE Charles Omenihu (knee) and CB Jaylen Watson (shoulder) were officially placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 17. The team also placed DE B.J. Thompson (illness) on the Active/Non-Football Illness list.

Free-agent WR Kyle Sheets (Saints) was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs to an undisclosed contract on Wednesday, July 17, per source.
Footballguys view: Undrafted out of Slippery Rock, Sheets is a former quarterback with good size and a nose for the end zone. He didn't last past minicamp with the Saints, but now has a chance to land on the practice squad of the league's best offense. That puts him on our radar in crazy super deep dynasty formats. |
Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice remains in limbo in regards to a potential suspension as of Tuesday, July 16.
Footballguys view: We're fairly certain some league discipline is coming up, so stay tuned. When asked by reporters for the timing or length of a potential suspension, Chiefs HC Andy Reid stated that he had not 'hurt anything up to this point.' |
Kansas City Chiefs OG Joe Thuney (pectoral), DT Derrick Nnadi (triceps), DE Charles Omenihu (knee) and CB Jaylen Watson (shoulder) are expected to start training camp on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list, according to head coach Andy Reid.

Kansas City Chiefs DE B.J. Thompson (heart) will start training camp on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
Link to storyThe Chiefs revamped their receiver depth this offseason, and the player who should receive plenty of targets next to tight end Travis Kelce is Hollywood Brown.
Footballguys view: As The Athletic's Nate Taylor explained, Kansas City wants to regain its potency when Patrick Mahomes throws deep. Known for his speed and improved route running, Brown should be effective in the intermediate and deep areas of the field. Taylor noted that Brown was impressive during the offseason program by establishing a strong connection with Mahomes. The Chiefs will likely need to rely on Brown early in the season. Second-year player Rashee Rice could be suspended to start the season for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Rookie Xavier Worthy will be adjusting to the league, too. |
Marquise Brown player page
Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce's 10.6 yards per catch in 2023 were a career low, but his 65.6 receiving yards per game and 51 first downs ranked first among tight ends.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs' offense can do whatever they want. Last season, the Chiefs peppered defenses with underneath passes while taking some deep shots here and there. Kelce was there to be reliable on those shorter passes, and he certainly knows how to move the chains. His streak of seven straight 1,000-yard season was broken last year (984 yards), but Kelce should push for over 1,000 once again in 2024. |

Kansas City Chiefs QB Carson Wentz has fully embraced his role as backup, but he seeks to improve in order to play a bigger role in the future. Wentz signed a one-year deal in hopes of competing for a starting job elsewhere next year.
Footballguys view: Head coach Andy Reid prefers to have a veteran with years of NFL experience as a backup for Mahomes, mainly to give him a study partner and sounding board for things he might be seeing in the video room or on the practice or game field. The Chiefs have had veterans Chad Henne, Matt Moore, and Blaine Gabbert serve as Mahomes' backups before Wentz, who signed with the team during the offseason. The Chiefs are now his fifth NFL team and fourth in as many seasons. He made 93 starts in eight seasons with the Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Commanders, and Los Angeles Rams. In other words, Wentz fits the mold here. |

Kansas City Chiefs DE Charles Omenihu (knee) said his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament has gone slowly but is happy with the progress he has made.

Kansas City Chiefs TE Jared Wiley 'showed strong receiving skills' during OTAs, according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Dynasty players in tight end premium leagues need to take note of Wiley, who could replace Noah Gray as the heir apparent to Travis Kelce. Gray has been developing well for a fifth round pick, but that could mean he'll get more in free agency next year than the Chiefs are willing to pay, especially with Wiley impressing early on. Wiley is a strong contested catch player who shines in the red zone, leading all FBS tight ends in touchdowns last year. |
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes had only 13% of his completed passes go at least 20 yards in the air last season, which was the lowest percentage of his career.
Footballguys view: The good news is that the Chiefs added Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy in the offseason. Worthy has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, but all reports say that Brown and Mahomes have already developed good chemistry. Fantasy players are believers, as Mahomes is still going in the top three quarterbacks even though he didn't finish near that level last year. |

Nikko Remigio -- in part because of Xavier Worthy's injured hamstring -- received a good run with the first unit during OTAs and minicamp, and he made the most of his opportunities. The challenge for him during training camp will be to make enough plays to crack a playing group that includes Worthy, Marquise Brown, Rashee Rice, Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, and Kadarius Toney.
Footballguys view: ChiefsBlitz.com's Nick Athan told us two weeks ago that Remigio was a player to watch based on his work in OTAs, and now we can add ESPN.com's Adam Teicher to the list of those paying attention. Remigio still has an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster come September, but Teicher contends one edge the receiver might have is his ability as a kickoff returner. He joined the Chiefs last year as an undrafted rookie and spent the year on injured reserve. |
Kansas City Chiefs DL Isaiah Buggs was released Monday, June 24.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice could be facing a 'multi-game' suspension, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, who said it 'doesn't look like [Rice] is going to be part of that start of the season,' adding that the team is 'bracing' for the wideout to miss multiple games.
Footballguys view: Rice's ADP in best ball drafts already has a multi-game absence baked in - as does Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown's price in early drafts. If Rice's suspension is only 2 or 3 games, then Rice's ADP should go up and the others should take a hit. Curiously, the ADPs of all have been going up, showing the optimism about the Chiefs passing game for the upcoming season. |
Rookie WR Xavier Worthy did not practice for much of the offseason because of a sore hamstring so the Chiefs didn't get an extensive look at him. The Chiefs said they were being cautious and that barring a setback he should be good to go at training camp.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Adam Teicher, Worthy had an up-and-down performance at the team's rookie camp shortly after he was drafted. He dropped some passes the first day but responded with some big plays at the next practice. As Footballguy Jason Wood put it this week, "Worthy has the requisite skill set to give Patrick Mahomes II a legitimate outside star again, something the team has longed for since letting Tyreek Hill walk." Still, Worthy is getting WR3 treatment on Underdog, just two spots after teammate Marquise Brown. That price is going to be worth watching. |
Kansas City Chiefs WR Marquise Brown earned praise from QB Patrick Mahomes during minicamp. 'I thought Hollywood did a great job coming in and being prepared and learning really fast,' Mahomes said.
Footballguys view: Brown broke out in 2021 with the Ravens but never made the hoped-for impact after he was traded to Arizona. But things are looking up in Kansas City. Insider Nick Athan from ChiefsBlitz.com told us earlier today that Brown has been "a perfect fit" since signing with the team in March. Athan characterized Brown as the team's No. 1 receiver, ahead of Rashee Rice and rookie Xavier Worthy. He's being drafted as such, with a WR33 Average Draft Position on Underdog. We rank Brown as WR40, ahead of Rice (WR42) and Worthy (WR43). However, Brown could move further ahead as we gain clarity on possible discipline for Rice's recent off-field issues. |

Kansas City Chiefs P Matt Araiza is in line to start in 2024 after the team cut its only other punter on the roster on Thursday, June 13.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (hamstring) remained sidelined by a sore hamstring during minicamp.
Footballguys view: We shouldn't move Worthy down on redraft boards based on this news - his rookie uncertainty has already been priced in - but if he is still sidelined when camp opens or has a setback, we should move him down at least a few rounds and move Marquise Brown up a few. Brown could end up being a big value in 2024 drafts if Worthy isn't ready to play a big role in his rookie year. |
Kansas City Chiefs OG Joe Thuney's (pectoral) availability for training camp is uncertain at this point, but he is expected to be ready for the start of the 2024 season, according to head coach Andy Reid.
Footballguys view: Thuney is the anchor of the Chiefs offensive line. We'll monitor this, but not worry too much if he misses part of camp, since that appears to be within the range of expectations. |
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes said the team will push the ball downfield more in 2024. 'This is probably the most comfortable I think I've felt of just being able to not let something affect me,'' Mahomes said. 'When you go up against [Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo in practice], you're not going to be right 100% of the time, and there's been times where I've lost on blitzes and Spags gets me with the new pressure that he's working on, and I think it's just being able to get the ball out of my hand, get it to the checkdown or wherever that is and then live to play another play.''
Footballguys view: The addition of Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy in the offseason should allow Mahomes to fulfill this promise. Worthy has missed OTAs with a hamstring injury, but is expected to be okay for camp. Brown has only averaged 13 games played a year in his five season career, but right now he is probably the better durability bet of the two new speed wideouts in best ball drafts. |

Link to storyKansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce told reporters on Tuesday, June 11, that he 'really cannot put a timeframe on (retirement)' intends to 'keep going until the wheels fall off,' according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.
Footballguys view: Kelce and the Chiefs agreed on a new deal this offseason that bumped up his compensation through the end of the 2025 season, so it seems likely we'll get at least two more years from one of the critical pieces of the Chiefs' three Super Bowl wins. The Footballguys staff has expectations. Kelce is our TE1, ahead of Detroit's Sam LaPorta, on the 2024 Draft Rankings. |

Kansas City Chiefs DE B.J. Thompson is awake and responsive after suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest, according to sources Friday, June 7.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs DL B.J. Thompson (undisclosed) is in stable condition at an area hospital after having a seizure and going into cardiac arrest, sources said. Thompson's agent, Chris Turnage, told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that Thompson remained unconscious but that doctors are optimistic about his recovery.
Link to storyKansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco logged 44 catches and 49 targets in 2023 after finishing with 13 catches on 14 targets as a rookie.
Footballguys view: Pacheco proved that he could be a better receiver in 2023, and we expect him to have a similar output as a receiver in 2024. Pushing for 1,000 yards rushing with around 45-50 receptions means Pacheco should produce like a low-end RB1 for Fantasy GMs. |
Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Mecole Hardman (Chiefs) signed a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, June 6, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Link to storyFree-agent WR Mecole Hardman (Chiefs) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, June 6.
Footballguys view: The Chiefs bring Hardman back to play the same role. Hardman is a gadget player who can get a few touches here and there. The Chiefs' WR room needs clarity, but it would take a lot for Hardman to be tasked with a role that would make him fantasy-relevant. |
