Jets | Garrett Wilson looking sharp Wed Jun 17, 09:20 PM
New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson 'appears to be in mid-season form' based on his performance during minicamp, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.
Link to storyNew York Jets QB Cade Klubnik (back) is on the field during practice Wednesday, June 17, but is not participating in position drills. He did not participate in practice Tuesday, June 16.
Footballguys view: Klubnik has been out of practice with back soreness, so his return is a positive. As Profootballtalk.com notes, the Jets' plan is for Bailey Zappe to serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind starter Geno Smith. Klubnik could earn the No. 2 job, but missing time now could put him behind in training camp. A year ago, Klubnik was viewed as a future first-round draft pick, but he had a disappointing final college season, and his draft stock slid to the fourth. The Jets think he has plenty of upside. But they need to see it on the field.
New York Jets fourth-round draft pick DL Darrell Jackson Jr. has signed his four-year rookie contract worth the slotted amount of about $5.6 million, according to a source on Tuesday, June 16.
Link to storyNew York Jets OG Joe Tippmann agreed to a four-year, $66.4 million extension Monday, June 15. The deal includes $34.9 million guaranteed.
Footballguys view: The Jets have committed to Breece Hall and Tippmann as cornerstones this offseason, and neither one cost more than Romeo Doubs contract with the Patriots. Tippmann is part of a good young offensive line with two recent first round pick tackles who could take a big step forward this year.
New York Jets RB Braelon Allen (knee) said Saturday, June 13, that he is back to 100 percent after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Head coach Aaron Glenn said he wants to employ a 'three-headed monster' in the backfield, and that was the plan last season before Allen's injury. RBs Breece Hall, the starter, and Isaiah Davis are the other backs in the equation. Allen also added that he hopes kick returns, which is how he hurt his knee, are going to be a thing of the past.
Footballguys view: Allen is worth a late round pick because of his injury upside if Breece Hall gets hurt, but he isn't going to have consistent standalone value the year after an ACL year in a bottom half of the league offense.
New York Jets RB Breece Hall is expected to have plenty of company in the backfield, as head coach Aaron Glenn said Saturday, June 13, that he is planning to use Hall, RBs Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis as a 'three-headed monster' in the backfield. He said that was the plan last season until Allen suffered an injury. However, after signing Hall to a three-year, $43.5 million, it's still likely Hall will see his fair share of touches.
Footballguys view: This is what we heard last year before the season, and Hall's fantasy output was inconsistent and frustrating for folks that expected a strong RB2, or even RB1, and instead got a boom/bust RB2/Flex even though promising backup Braelon Allen went down early in the season. Allen is healthy again, but Hall's ADP is still in the third round, so the Jets offense needs to improve a lot for Hall to deliver.
New York Jets QB Cade Klubnik's (back) back injury is not believed to be serious.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Kaden Davis (Browns) worked out for the New York Jets Wednesday, June 10.
Link to storyNew York Jets RB Braelon Allen said he currently weighs 250 pounds, which is up from the 238 to 240 pounds he was at last season.
Footballguys view: Allen was drafted just after his 20th birthday and seems to bulk up every offseason. Last season was cut short by injury, but he's still just 22 years old. Breece Hall's extension puts him an injury away from any meaningful workload, but Allen is a great dynasty stash and late-round best ball target.
New York Jets TE Kenyon Sadiq (hernia) is running and working out on the side during practice Wednesday, June 10.
Footballguys view: Sadiq underwent a hernia procedure in late May, but the team expects him back before training camp. It's good to see him at minicamps and around the team, but we're still waiting for him to resume on-field activities.
New York Jets fourth-round pick QB Cade Klubnik (back) won't practice Wednesday, June 10, due to back tightness.
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Quentin Skinner was reverted from waived-injured to injured reserve, according to a source on Tuesday, June 9.
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Quentin Skinner (undisclosed) was waived with an injury designation Monday, June 8, according to a source.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Jalen Walthall (Texans) agreed to terms with the New York Jets Monday, June 8, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Gee Scott (Commanders) signed with the New York Jets Thursday, June 4. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, New York Jets WR Da'Quan Felton (undisclosed) was released Wednesday, June 3, with an injury designation.

Link to storyFree-agent PK Jason Sanders (Giants) agreed to terms with the New York Jets Wednesday, June 3, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team is also releasing PK Younghoe Koo.
Footballguys view: The Giants released Sanders, a former All-Pro, to clear a roster spot for Juju Smith-Schuster earlier this week. Sanders, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, was by far the most experienced kicker under contract with the Giants. The 30-year-old Sanders has made 84.6% of his NFL field goal attempts. That includes 90.2% in the 2024 season, when he was 12-for-14 from 50-plus yards.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Tanner McKee received trade interest from the New York Jets, but they were told he'd cost a second-round pick.
Footballguys view: McKee is a free agent after the season, and the Eagles did select Cole Payton in the fifth round of this year's draft. As SI.com's Jeff Kerr notes, the Eagles also have Andy Dalton on the roster, and he could serve as the QB2 this year if they do trade McKee this summer, giving him some reps with the second team. If the Eagles don't find a trade partner for McKee, then he's the QB2 at the start of the season. This summer is going to be interesting to see how the depth chart unfolds.

New York Jets PK Lenny Kreig was waived and LB Kobe King was waived with a waived-injured designation, according to a source on Monday, June 1.
Link to storyUndrafted free-agent LB Chase Wilson was signed by the New York Jets, according to a source on Monday, June 1. Contract terms were not disclosed.
Link to storyNew York Jets first-round draft choice WR Omar Cooper Jr. agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Jets Monday, June 1, worth $17.5 million, according to a source.
Footballguys view: According to the Footballguys 2026 Rookie Guide, Cooper is a tough receiver over the middle and a threat after the catch in the short game. But as Sigmund Bloom suggests, Cooper isn't going to be the starting "X" in New York; he isn't suited for that role. He isn't displacing Garrett Wilson as the starting "Z". Kenyon Sadiq is going to get a lot of the snaps that a slot receiver would as a second tight end. Where exactly does Cooper fit in that can make him fantasy-relevant? It could be a slow rookie season for the former Indiana star.
Free-agent WR Da'Quan Felton (Giants) signed with the New York Jets Monday, June 1. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Garrett Wilson said the recovery from his knee injury was longer than he expected but that he feels great now.
Footballguys view: Wilson will have a chance to start hot with Geno Smith at quarterback, but if the Jets turn to fourth round rookie Cade Klubnik after the season is lost, then Wilson's value could evaporate. His ADP is lower than it was last year, but has not fallen to the lowly level that his 2025 lost campaign would dictate.
New York Jets RB Braelon Allen has been participating in offseason workouts after missing most of the 2025 season because of a knee injury.
Link to storyNew York Jets CB D'Angelo Ponds will receive reps at both slot and outside cornerback, according to head coach Aaron Glenn, who added that it appears as though he has a good understanding of both positions.
Link to storyNew York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn told the media on Thursday, May 29, that the team is having an open competition for the backup quarterback spot between Cade Klubnik, Bailey Zappe, and Brady Cook.
Footballguys view: The fourth round pick Klubnik has a good chance to beat out Zappe, who has leveled out as a QB3 on the fringe of rosters after getting a cup of coffee with the Patriots earlier in his career, and Cook, who looked overwhelmed when he got on the field as an undrafted free agent last year.
New York Jets PK Cade York (groin) is not participating in the voluntary workouts this week because of a groin injury.
Link to storyNew York Jets first-round pick TE Kenyon Sadiq (abdomen) underwent minor surgery to repair a hernia, according to head coach Aaron Glenn. Sadiq is expected back for training camp. The team said they knew about the issue before the draft.
Footballguys view: "It's something that he dealt with, and we knew about it going into his last year of college, and he dealt with it during rookie minicamp," head coach Aaron Glenn said. The Jets expect Sadiq to be a key contributor this season, so missed practice time is potentially significant. They used first-round picks on Sadiq and wide receiver Omar Cooper, Jr., with the hope of adding more explosiveness to their offense. Sadiq played with the injury through part of last season, missing one game for Oregon. We'll be watching his status when training camp opens.
Free-agent PK Younghoe Koo (Giants) agreed to terms with the New York Jets Wednesday, May 27, according to sources. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyNew York Jets RB Breece Hall will be an important part of what the Jets do on offense, according to offensive coordinator Frank Reich. 'Listen, it's certainly going to be no secret or surprise to say that we're going to want to run the football, and so we'll continue to emphasize that,' Reich said. 'These guys ran the ball pretty well last year, so we'll build on that.'
Footballguys view: While Hall has never finished better than 13th in rushing yards in a season, he hasn't been the issue. The limited touches working in an offense, throwing the ball in catch-up mode, were more responsible. But we've seen Hall used in the passing game. He was a true dual threat in 2023 (he was RB2 overall that season) and 2024, when he produced a combined 133 receptions. The Jets should get improved quarterback play. Geno Smith is an upgrade over Justin Fields, and additions to the receiving corps should create space for Hall in the run game.
New York Jets QB Cade Klubnik 'looked good' at rookie minicamp, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, and Klubnik remains in the mix for the backup quarterback job as OTAs begin.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Rich Cimini, the Jets haven't signed a veteran because they want to see what Klubnik can do over the next month. That goes for Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe, too, but it's really about Klubnik. And while Klubnik looked good, that was against mostly undrafted free agents and tryout players. The speed will intensify at OTAs, which should give the coaches a better idea of his ability to absorb and execute the system. The Jets have been in contact with a number of free agents, most notably Russell Wilson, in case the need for a veteran arises.
New York Jets QB Brady Cook, who started games down the stretch in 2025 due to injuries, is battling rookie QB Cade Klubnik and veteran journeyman QB Bailey Zappe for the backup job to starter QB Geno Smith.

New York Jets QB Cade Klubnik (ankle, wrist) struggled with a sprained right ankle and wrist injury in his final season at Clemson, and with his play suffering, his draft stock took a nosedive. But, Klubnik remains confident heading into his rookie season. 'In my mind, I'm a winner,' Klubnik said Saturday at rookie minicamp. 'I don't mean that in a boastful way. I think that's the mentality you have to have as a quarterback, and I think that my resume has kind of showed that as well.'
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Mac Dalena was released by the team Sunday, May 10.
Link to storyFree-agent OL Landon Young (Saints) was signed by the New York Jets Sunday, May 10, according to a source.
Link to storyUpdating previous reports, undrafted free-agent WR Caullin Lacy (Louisville), RB Sam Scott (Wyoming), WR Malik McClain (Arizona State), RB Chip Trayanum (Toledo), TE Chase Curtis (TCU) and WR DT Sheffield (Rutgers) officially signed with the New York Jets Friday, May 8. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Link to storyNew York Jets first-round draft choice DE David Bailey signed a four-year contract with the Jets Friday, May 8. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the contract includes a fifth-year option.
Link to storyNew York Jets CB D'Angelo Ponds has reached an agreement on a four-year, $9.8 million contract that includes $8.9 million guaranteed, according to a source on Friday, May 8.
Link to storyNew York Jets RB Breece Hall agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $45.75 million on Friday, May 8.
Footballguys view: Hall is now the third-highest paid running back in the NFL with an average annual salary of $15.25 million. There were rumblings last year about Hall getting traded, and even this offseason those resurfaced. Instead of moving Hall, the Jets now get a new deal done. He's an RB2 for Fantasy GMs as the Jets try to make the right improvements around him on offense.
New York Jets TE Kenyon Sadiq signed his rookie contract on Thursday, May 7. It is for four years and $22.3 million fully guaranteed.
Footballguys view: Sadiq was arguably the best overall tight end in this draft class. The Jets selected Mason Taylor last year out of LSU, so we'll see Sadiq as the move tight end while Taylor continues as a blocking tight end. Sadiq is more of a TE2 for Fantasy GMs, although the potential to be a TE1 as a rookie is there.
New York Jets QB Cade Klubnik signed his rookie contract on Thursday, May 7. The contract is for four years and $5.5 million.
Link to storyNew York Jets S VJ Payne signed his rookie deal on Thursday, May 7. The deal is for four years and $4.4 million.
Link to storyRussell Wilson told the New York Post that he has an offer on the table from the Jets, and he is weighing his options. "I still know I can play ball at a high level," Wilson said.
Footballguys view: Wilson visited the Jets last week to talk to the team about coming aboard as a backup quarterback behind his former Seahawks teammate Geno Smith, and there was a report later in the week that Wilson has also been talking to networks about a television role. There's no word on the details of the offer that the Jets made to Wilson, who began last season as the Giants' starter but ended it as their third-string quarterback.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith is a perfect fit for the team's new offensive scheme, according to offensive coordinator Frank Reich.
Footballguys view: From 2021-2024, Smith started 52 games for Seattle, leading the club to a 28-24 record while completing 68.5 percent of his passes for 12,928 yards with 76 touchdowns and 36 interceptions. As Profootballtalk.com suggested, if Smith is better than that, then the Jets will be in a much better position to have success in 2026. That doesn't mean fantasy investors should be counting on Smith to fuel their fantasy fortunes. But thinking he can keep the players we are invested in, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, on schedule is reasonable.

New York Jets DE Will McDonald had his fifth-year option exercised Wednesday, April 29.
Link to storyFree-agent QB Russell Wilson (Giants) was hosted for a visit by the New York Jets and is reportedly being considered as an option to be Geno Smith's backup, according to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt on Tuesday, April 28.
Footballguys view: As the Jets sorted through potential backup options -- which also included Carson Wentz at one point -- GM Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn discussed potential options with Smith. Per Rosenblatt's source, Smith mentioned that he enjoyed working with Wilson when they were with the Seahawks in 2020-21, when Smith backed up Wilson. We'll watch for more.
