Jets | Breece Hall to stay busy? Fri Jun 13, 04:57 PM
New York Jets RB Breece Hall could be the 'No. 2 option' in the passing game, in the opinion of Zack Rosenblatt.
Footballguys view: Hall has fallen from the top five of 2024 drafts to the third round of 2025 drafts, largely because of the suggestion by head coach Aaron Glenn that there will be a three-headed backfield with Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis. He also said today that he was playing through a "pretty serious" knee injury last year, but one that did not require surgery. So it's possible we still haven't seen him return all the way to form after a 2022 ACL tear. If Hall can separate from the younger backs and become the clear lead back again, he could be one of the best picks of the draft, but if he doesn't, he might not even be startable. While this is an optimistic report, it might not be difficult to be the second option in the Jets passing game this year with lackluster options at wide receiver behind Garrett Wilson. |
New York Jets RB Breece Hall revealed to reporters during mandatory minicamp that he played through a 'pretty serious' knee injury during the 2024 season. He added that he feels fine now and did not need to undergo surgery to correct it.
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Malachi Corley has a long way to go to before making an impact for the team, according to head coach Aaron Glenn. 'We have a ways to go to really try to figure out exactly where we're going to place him because he's been in-and-out,' Glenn said. 'That's just what it is.'
Link to storyNew York Jets CB Sauce Gardner told reporters on Thursday, July 12, that he feels 'pretty good' about how contract extension talks have been going this offseason.
Link to storyNew York Jets QB Justin Fields said he hopes to work out with the wide receivers and tight ends on the roster before the start of training camp.
Footballguys view: While two of his Jets teammates, wide receiver Garrett Wilson and tight end Jeremy Ruckert, played with Fields at Ohio State. Still, the more work all the receiving assets can get with Fields, the better -- for fantasy investors and Fields. As ESPN's Dan Graziano noted, the $10 million in guaranteed money on his contract for 2026 won't stand in the way of the team drafting or acquiring someone it sees as a better option next spring if Fields doesn't play well enough to convince it otherwise. |

New York Jets WR Malachi Corley (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Wednesday, June 11.
Footballguys view: It's been the same for Corley, a former third-round pick who's coming off a disappointing rookie year since OTAs began. As previously noted, a new front office and coaching staff that has no loyalty to him also has no idea how he fits their needs. The more Corley has to sit out with injuries, the harder it will be for them to figure out his role. |
New York Jets WR Malachi Corley (undisclosed) missed some of the voluntary workouts because of an undisclosed injury and his status for the mandatory minicamp is uncertain.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com's Rich Cimini suggested, it's time for Corley, a former third-round pick who's coming off a disappointing rookie year, to make his move. Remember, a new front office and coaching staff have no loyalty to him. They also don't know how he fits. The more Corley has to sit out with injuries, the harder it will be for the new staff to figure out his role. |
New York Jets WR Allen Lazard and WR Josh Reynolds are believed to be the two leading candidates for the No.2 receiver job entering training camp, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Rich Cimini.
Footballguys view: There were rumors earlier this year that Lazard might be sent to the Steelers based on the notion Aaron Rodgers would sign in Pittsburgh. Now that Rodgers is officially a Steeler, we'll see if they show interest in Lazard. The team used a third-round pick last year on Malachi Corley, thinking he'd be a starter, but he's out because of an undisclosed injury after a disappointing rookie year. In the end, it's hard to get excited about any of the Jets' wideouts not named Wilson. |

New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson said that he and the team's other wide receivers may have different responsibilities this season, even though Shawn Jefferson is still serving as the receivers coach. For example, Wilson said there will be offensive plays designed where he will seek out a safety and block him.
Footballguys view: This isn't a surprise with a running quarterback in Justin Fields at the helm. Wilson is still set up for a bounce back year in a reunion with his college quarterback. Fields isn't known for his passing, but he did zero in on DJ Moore enough for Moore to have a career year in their last campaign together in Chicago. Wilson's ADP has fallen a round and a half from his late first value last year, but he won't have to compete with Davante Adams for targets, and won't have a quarterback in Aaron Rodgers that he didn't riff with last year. |
New York Jets RB Isaiah Davis averaged 5.8 yards per carry during the 2024 season on 30 carries and recorded eight runs of at least 10 yards during the season.
Footballguys view: Davis is a player we've stashed in deep dynasty leagues. The Jets no.3 back behind Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, Davis is a grinder who is tough to bring down when he builds a head of steam. While not a big-play threat, Davis can consistently be someone who picks up positive yardage in a reserve role. We'd be curious (and excited) to see what he could do if ever tasked with a larger responsibility. Thus, Davis remains a deep dynasty darling. |
New York Jets WR Malachi Corley (undisclosed) worked with a trainer on the side during practice Tuesday, June 3.
Footballguys view: The previous regime found no use for Corley's talents, and the third-round pick was on the inactive list for much of his rookie campaign. This year, a new regime that has no loyalty to him isn't sure where he fits. "Now, we have a ways to go to really try to figure out exactly where we're going to place him," new HC Aaron Glenn said, "because he's been in and out, that's just what it is." The more Corley has to sit out with injuries, the harder it will be for the new staff to figure out his role. |
New York Jets TE Mason Taylor seems to be the leading candidate for the tight end job entering training camp, in the opinion of JetsWire's Craig Moffett.
Footballguys view: Taylor opening the season as the starter would not be a massive suprise. Veteran Jeremy Ruckert has been disappointing, although he hasn't gotten many opportunities to shine as a receiving threat. Stone Smartt is an interesting dart throw and could push Ruckert for the backup spot behind Taylor, who will be a capable security blanket for Justin Fields in the passing game. |
New York Jets RB Braelon Allen could have a 'pretty significant' role in the offense this season, according to SI.com's Albert Breer.
Footballguys view: Breece Hall heads into training camp as the clear-cut RB1. But after a breakout 2023 season, Hall's numbers started to decline in 2024, and head coach Aaron Glenn made it clear that Allen and Isaiah Davis will be factors this year. Glenn and OC Tanner Engstrand come from a Detroit team that found plenty of opportunities for two running backs to succeed (Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery). The team is also transitioning to quarterback Justin Fields under center, which adds another threat to the running game that will take defensive attention away from Allen. |
Contract extension talks between the New York Jets and WR Garrett Wilson are expected to heat up during training camp, according to ESPN.com's Rich Cimini.
Footballguys view: Despite inconsistent quarterback play, Wilson has recorded three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons. He's probably looking for a deal in the $30 million-a-year range. After June 2, the Jets will be among the leaders in cap room, so there's enough flexibility to make it happen. Meanwhile, Garrett heads into this season with a new QB, Justin Fields, as WR24 on the Footballguys Projections. There could be value here. |
New York Jets DE Will McDonald added 15 pounds in the offseason in hopes of becoming a stronger edge setter against the run, according to head coach Aaron Glenn. The added weight likely pushes McDonald in the 250-pound range after he was listed at 236 last season.
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Garrett Wilson will be targeted 'as much as possible' next season, according to head coach Aaron Glenn.
Footballguys view: We love that idea for the Jets and for Fantasy GMs out there. We'll see QB Justin Fields target Wilson early and often this year, and the strength of the connection will tell us how many fantasy points can be earned. Wilson is a WR2 with upside, but those numbers could push for WR1 range if he's getting targeted as much as possible. |
New York Jets LB Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) is working on a side field during offseason workouts because he is still recovering from his Achilles injury.
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Garrett Wilson has had some contract extension talks with the Jets this offseason and hopes to remain with the team for the rest of his career.
Footballguys view: Wilson has three straight seasons with over 80 receptions and 1,000 yards to start his career in the league, joining Odell Beckham Jr., Michael Thomas, Justin Jefferson, and Ja'Marr Chase as the only receivers in NFL history to accomplish that feat. He's done it despite dealing with sub-par quarterback play in New York. This year, Wilson could benefit from the signing of QB Justin Fields. The two had success together at Ohio State, so their reunion could produce some numbers in 2025. If so, Wilson will be a value. He's currently WR25 on the Footballguys Projections. |

New York Jets TE Mason Taylor is a 'pro-ready fix' for the Jets' needs at the tight end position, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Taylor was one of the most intriguing tight ends in this draft class. He's got an athletic profile that could make him a mismatch no matter if a linebacker or safety is tasked with covering him. Taylor sits atop the depth chart for the Jets with veteran Jeremy Ruckert as the no.2 for the Jets. It would be wise if QB Justin Fields got Taylor the ball early and often. |

Link to storyLouisiana State University TE Mason Taylor is reportedly the target of the New York Jets with the No. 42 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday, April 25. However, the belief is Taylor is unlikely to fall that far, according to Sportskeeda's Tony Pauline.
Footballguys view: The Jets could have been in the market for Tyler Warren (Penn State) if OT Armand Membou wasn't on the board when they picked in the first round. They went with the offensive lineman in the first round, so now it's time to look at tight end. Taylor can make an immediate impact in this league because of his size and hands. |
