Jets | Brandin Echols leaves early Fri Jul 26, 06:10 PM
New York Jets CB Brandin Echols (undisclosed) left practice early Friday, July 26, because of an undisclosed issue.

New York Jets OG Alijah Vera-Tucker (Achilles) participated in team drills during practice Friday, July 26.
Link to storyNew York Jets C Jake Hanson (leg) is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks because of a leg injury, according to head coach Robert Saleh.
Link to storyNew York Jets OG Alijah Vera-Tucker (pectoral) and OT Morgan Moses (pectoral) may be able to participate in team drills next week, according to head coach Robert Saleh.
Footballguys view: The Jets added Moses to play right tackle and oft-injured Tyron Smith to play left tackle, and Vera-Tucker was their best offensive lineman before going down with a torn achilles last season. Health has not been a strong suit on the offensive line lately, but the team added tackle depth at #11 overall when they drafted Olu Fashanu in April. We'll be watching to see if this line can come together before Week 1 to help Aaron Rodgers and the offense. |
New York Jets WR Xavier Gipson (lower body) will miss a week or two due to an unspecified lower body injury, according to sources Friday, July 26.
Footballguys view: Gipson is set as the team's #3 receiver and top slot receiver, so this should give third round pick Malachi Corley a chance to show what he can do. Garrett Wilson and free agent signing Mike Williams (currently on the PUP recovering from a torn ACL) are the starters. |
New York Jets QB Jordan Travis (leg) needs more time to recover from the serious leg injury he suffered during his college career, according to head coach Robert Saleh. He is currently on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
Link to storyUndrafted free-agent QB Ben Bryant (Northwestern) was signed to an undisclosed deal by the New York Jets Thursday, July 25.
Link to storyNew York Jets LB Haason Reddick was placed on the Reserve/Did Not Report list Thursday, July 25.

New York Jets WR Allen Lazard was among the standouts during the team's first practice, in the opinion of ESPN's Rich Cimini, who points out that Lazard will get a lot of time working with the starters due to WR Mike Williams (knee) being on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Cimini also notes that some in the organization believe Lazard lost confidence a year ago, and a strong camp could do a lot to rebuild that.
Footballguys view: Lazard has talent, but his game is inconsistent. With better quarterback play, so long as Aaron Rodgers can stay healthy, that should help Lazard greatly. He's competing to establish a pecking order behind Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams. |
New York Jets WR Tyler Harrell (undisclosed) passed his physical Tuesday, July 23, and has been activated from the Active/Non-Football Injury list. DT Leonard Taylor III (undisclosed) also passed his physical and has been activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, free-agent CB Nehemiah Shelton officially signed an undisclosed contract with the New York Jets on Tuesday, July 23.
Link to storyNew York Jets LB Haason Reddick isn't expected to report to training camp. Reddick is due $14.25 million in the final year of his deal after the Jets traded for him in March, and he's seeking an extension. Reddick is subject to $50,000 per-day fines for each absence.

Free-agent CB Nehemiah Shelton (Jets) agreed to terms with the New York Jets Monday, July 22, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Mike Williams (knee) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 18.
Footballguys view: The Jets had always insisted Williams would not be ready for the start of training camp. However, there seems to be optimism about his availability for the start of the regular season. |

New York Jets FB Nick Bawden (undisclosed) and DT Leonard Taylor III (undisclosed) were placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list Thursday, July 18. The team also placed QB Jordan Travis (knee) and WR Tyler Harrell (undisclosed) on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

New York Jets third-round pick WR Malachi Corley signed a four-year, $6.073 million deal Wednesday, July 17. The deal includes a $1.237 million signing bonus.
Footballguys view: Corley has the skill to make an impact in the NFL. He's a beast after the catch, and Corley is one of the most aggressive receivers in this draft class. Corley can be featured from the slot, but he'll need to learn the nuances of route running to play up to his incredible physical potential. |
New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers says his Achilles' tendon 'feels good' ahead of training camp, he told reporters on Saturday, July 13. 'My Achilles feels good, you know. I felt really good at the end of last year,' Rodgers said. 'Then, you know, there's always that kind of plateau part. It's just about getting back into it. I felt good all spring.'
Footballguys view: Rodgers tore his Achilles four plays into last season and shut down any comeback plans late in the regular season as the team fell out of contention, so it's been a long wait for him to get back in the lineup. Rodgers did take part in offseason work before skipping mandatory minicamp for a trip to Egypt. Jets rookies are set to report to camp on July 18 and the team is scheduled to hold its first full squad practice on July 24. |

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed the team's mandatory minicamp because he had a pre-planned trip to Egypt, sources told SNY.
Footballguys view: SNY.tv's Connor Hughes explained that Rodgers pieced this trip together during his recovery from his Achilles injury. He scheduled the visit for what was believed to be after the offseason programs. The Jets were made aware of the trip when the official minicamp dates were announced (June 11, 12) and overlapped with Rodgers' plans. While team officials were aware of Rodgers' trip and understood why it was important to him, their public stance on the matter gave the impression they were not and discounted Rodgers' near-perfect attendance throughout the voluntary portion of the offseason program. Multiple players Hughes touched base with had zero issues with Rodgers missing minicamp, all pointing towards his attendance during the voluntary portion. Those same players were surprised that those outside team headquarters felt differently. Whatever the case, we'll all see Rodgers when training camp opens later this month. |

New York Jets RB Breece Hall (lower body) said he's 'back to my old self,' according to ESPN on Monday, July 1. Hall was held out of OTAs due to an undisclosed lower body injury.
Footballguys view: As ESPN.com's Rich Cimini noted, Hall's entire 2023 offseason was focused on rehabbing, which can detract from other areas of conditioning. This year, he was able to get back into a regular offseason routine, adding strength to his left knee and left quadriceps. For what it's worth, Hall said the OTA absences were merely a precaution. Hall heads into training camp as RB2 on the Footballguys 2024 Draft Rankings. |
Back at full strength after a torn ACL that cut his rookie season short, with a couple years under his belt and an offense around him that only looks stronger with the return of Aaron Rodgers and some other key additions, one can only wonder what Hall's ceiling could be. "Really it's just all on me," he said. Hall's work toward showing he can reach that elite level of play will start with a Week 1 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, where he will test his mettle against who he believes is the benchmark for success for a running back, Christian McCaffrey. "For me," Hall said, "it's exciting just to see where I stand and really let everyone see my full talent now that I'm healthy."
Footballguys view: McCaffrey signed a new two-year, $38 million extension this month that increased his lead as the highest-paid RB in the league. It came after his first full season with the 49ers, which featured a career-best and league-leading 1,459 rushing yards and NFL highs in all-purpose yards and touchdowns en route to earning Offensive Player of the Year honors. "He's a top-10 player in this league, and I feel like with my talent and the team we have, I have potential to trend towards that way," Hall said. We agree. Hall is currently RB2 on the Footballguys 2024 Draft Rankings. |
New York Jets DB Tae Hayes was released, Monday, June 24.

New York Jets RB Braelon Allen was named the team's surprise standout at minicamp, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini on Monday, June 24. Cimini said Allen 'showed excellent ball skills and terrific body control' and that the rookie 'has a chance to be Breece Hall's primary backup.'
Footballguys view: Cimini acknowledged that Allen, a fourth-round pick, wasn't known for his receiving in college -- with only 49 catches in three seasons at Wisconsin -- but he demonstrated plenty of ability in OTAs and minicamp. Although he's 235 pounds, Cimini reports Allen was able to split out and play like a smaller back. "If you go back and watch his tape at Wisconsin, he caught the ball well," RBs coach Tony Dews said. Allen will compete with second-year man Israel Abanikanda, fellow rookie Isaiah Davis (a fifth-round pick), and free-agent addition Tarik Cohen for snaps behind starter Breece Hall. |
New York Jets OT Vitaliy Gurman was released Wednesday, June 19.
Link to storyUpdating a previous report, free-agent DE Takkarist McKinley (Cowboys) signed a one-year contract worth $1.125 million with the New York Jets on Tuesday, June 18.
Footballguys view: Football lore remembers the Cowboys taking Taco Charlton over T.J. Watt, but the Atlanta Falcons also took an edge rusher a few picks ahead of Watt that didn't make it to the end of his rookie deal. McKinley was selected with the 26th pick of the 2017 draft - one pick ahead of Tre'Davious White - and they moved up five spots to do it. McKinley has been with the Raiders, Browns, Titans, Rams, and Cowboys since. He made the Jets after a tryout and will be reunited with Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, who was the Falcons linebackers coach when they selected him in 2017. |

Free-agent OG Kohl Levao (UFL) agreed to terms with the New York Jets Tuesday, June 18. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Mike Williams (knee) said he believes he can complement WR Garrett Wilson. 'I can be that big, physical receiver who can make plays downfield, catch slants or do whatever it takes,' Williams said.

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said there was 'no issue' between QB Aaron Rodgers (personal) and his teammates regarding the quarterback's absence from mandatory minicamp. Saleh added that he and Rodgers are 'on the exact same page.'

New York Jets RB Israel Abanikanda (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Wednesday, June 12. He left practice early Tuesday, June 11, because of an undisclosed injury.
Link to storyNew York Jets OT Morgan Moses (pectoral) and OG Alijah Vera-Tucker (Achilles) are expected to be ready for the start of training camp, according to head coach Robert Saleh.
Footballguys view: Some of the names have changed, but we are still watching the Jets offensive line durability closely going into this season. Moses, Vera-Tucker, and Tyron Smith are the three best starters on the team. Two are coming back from serious injuries and Smith has only played in 30 games over the last four seasons. We'll check back in to see if Moses and Vera-Tucker are ready for camp as expected. If not, added pessimism about the Jets offense could be warranted. |
New York Jets RB Breece Hall (lower body) did not participate in practice Tuesday, June 11, but said the injury is not serious.
Link to storyFree-agent OG Pat Elflein (Cardinals), C Corey Luciano (49ers), OG Ilm Manning (Panthers) and DE Takkarist McKinley (Cowboys) are participating the in New York Jets minicamp this week on a tryout basis. Undrafted free-agent DE Jeremy Lewis (Eastern Carolina) is also trying out for the Jets.

Breece Hall isn't on the field with the other Jets who reported for work. Head coach Robert Saleh said that Hall is not practicing because of a lower-body issue that the running back downplayed during a press conference. "It's not really a concern to be honest," Hall said, via SNY. "I'm just focused on continuing to get better and just still keep building my body up for the season. I could practice right now, I feel great, but the coaches are real cautious with me and I appreciate them for that."
Footballguys view: Hall sounded confident that he'll be at full speed for training camp and said he's looking forward to the team's opener on Monday night against the 49ers. He said 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey "sets the standard" for NFL backs and wants to see how he measures up. "It's exciting just to see where I stand and really let everybody see my full talent now that I'm healthy," Hall said. Hall currently holds the RB2 spot (behind only McCaffrey) on the Footballguys 2024 Draft Rankings. He's a legitimate contender to finish as RB1 this year. |
Updating a previous report, New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers (personal) is not expected to participate in mandatory minicamp this week. While the absence is considered unexcused and Rodgers will be subject to fines due to not being present, the absence is one that Rodgers stated was 'important to him' and head coach Robert Saleh knew about 'a while ago'.
Footballguys view: Rodgers recently said he "respects" anyone's opinion that he is a distraction to the Jets, but he added: "Once the season starts, it's all about football." So we'll see about that. This absence, however, remains noteworthy because the Jets knew it was coming and didn't excuse it. Not defusing the issue when they easily could have says something. Meanwhile, backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor will now get an opportunity to receive more first-team reps with Rodgers out. The Jets also have rookies Jordan Travis and Andrew Peasley on the roster. |

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers is absent from mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 11. The absence is unexcused.
Footballguys view: Head coach Robert Saleh stressed that while it's an unexcused absence, the team knew the quarterback wouldn't attend minicamp due to a previous engagement. Rodgers had been a participant in the Jets' voluntary workouts. "Aaron and I spoke before OTAs started," Saleh said Tuesday. "He's been very good in communication. He's been here the entire time. It's inexcused, but he had an event that was very important to him, which he communicated." As NFL.com suggested, veteran players missing non-contact practices in June isn't the end of the world -- especially in Rodgers' case since he's been around all spring -- but it's notable. The team could have easily made this an excused absence, so the event wasn't as important to them as it was to Rodgers. |

New York Jets TE Tyler Conklin said he expects a big step in his play this upcoming season.
Footballguys view: Conklin's 621 yards in 2023 ranked second on the team, and his 61 receptions ranked third while catching passes from four quarterbacks last season. According to Pro Football Focus, Conklin ranked No. 2 in the NFL with a 66.7 percent contested-catch rate among TEs who took a minimum of 400 passing snaps. His 12 contested catches also ranked second. More importantly, Conklin had the second-most targets on the team last year. If he maintains a similar role with Aaron Rodgers as his QB all season, you could wind up with a reaonably-priced TE2 delivering low-end TE1 totals. |

New York Jets DE Tyreek Johnson (undisclosed) was waived with a failure to disclose physical condition designation on Thursday, June 6.
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Xavier Gipson is projected to begin the season as the primary option in the slot over third-round rookie Malachi Corley, according to SNY's Connor Hughes.
Footballguys view: Gipson could begin the season ahead of Corley, but the rookie could surpass him quickly (and even before the start of the season). Corley is a freak athlete who can be a nightmare after the catch. Gipson didn't flash much as a rookie in 2023 with 21 grabs for 229 yards. We'll see this competition shake out in training camp, and we'll be noting who shows more chemistry with QB Aaron Rodgers. |
New York Jets RB Braelon Allen's hands are getting him noticed early in camp, as he has been a reliable option out of the backfield all summer, according to SNY's Connor Hughes.
Footballguys view: Allen is impressive as a runner because he's huge and swift. You can't see him run over defenders in practice, but that's coming in the preseason (and the regular season). It's good to hear that he's impressive as a receiver too. We love Allen in dynasty formats, but this year he's set for backup duty behind Breece Hall. |
New York Jets RB Breece Hall (lower body) is dealing with 'some lower-half stuff' that the team is not concerned about long-term, according to head coach Robert Saleh.
Link to storyNew York Jets EDGE Haason Reddick is expected back for the minicamp next week, according to head coach Robert Saleh.

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers has thrown at least 25 touchdowns in each of the 13 seasons that he has played at least 10 games, but only four quarterbacks in NFL history have thrown 25 or more touchdowns in a season after failing to complete a pass in the previous season.
Footballguys view: Given his history and a great supporting cast headlined by Garrett Wilson, Rodgers is well-positioned to get back on track this year. He's QB17 on the Footballguys 2024 Draft Rankings and currently going as QB20 in Underdog best-ball drafts. While Rodgers coming off a torn Achilles tendon at 40 isn't ideal, the veteran has reportedly worked without issue in recent OTAs. He's a great value if you're waiting to land a solid QB2 for your teams. |

New York Jets RB Markese Stepp (undisclosed) was waived from the Reserve/Injured list with an injury settlement on Friday, May 31.
Link to storyNew York Jets RB Markese Stepp (undisclosed) was moved to the Reserve/Injured list Thursday, May 30, after he cleared waivers.
Link to storyNew York Jets WR Malachi Corley (undisclosed) left the voluntary workout early with a trainer Wednesday, May 29, because of an undisclosed injury.
Footballguys view: We've seen Xavier Worthy and Rome Odunze both miss time with hamstring injuries already this offseason. It sounds like Corley avoided a serious injury, but we'll be keeping tabs on this and Mike Williams recovery from ACL surgery to inform our projections of the Jets passing game. |
New York Jets RB Breece Hall (undisclosed) worked in the rehab area during the voluntary workout Wednesday, May 29, because of an undisclosed injury.
Footballguys view: There's probably nothing to worry about here, but we'll be monitoring just in case. Hall is going in the middle of the first round in part because he'll be another year removed from ACL surgery, so it's important for us to find out if this has anything to do with that if whatever this is persists into the summer. |
