Vikings | Jordan Mason participating in OTAs    Thu Jun 5, 01:55 AM

Minnesota Vikings RB Jordan Mason (ankle) participated in drills during OTAs Wednesday, June 4.

Footballguys view: Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell said Mason will complement starting RB Aaron Jones as a â€"1b” in the backfield. Mason has talent, but his 2024 season with the 49ers was cut short because of this ankle problem. It's a good sign Mason is out there in OTAs, and we're excited about his upside as an RB3/flex option in 2025.

Cowboys | Rotational role for Javonte Williams?    Thu Jun 5, 01:35 AM

Dallas Cowboys RB Javonte Williams will likely be 'strictly in a rotational role' this season, in the opinion of ESPN's Bill Barnwell, who adds that there's a 'slim-but-plausible chance' that Williams doesn't even make the 53-man roster out of camp. Williams signed a one-year, $3 million deal with Dallas, but only $1 million of that is guaranteed.

Footballguys view: Williams has not looked the same since a major knee injury in his second year (2022) with the Broncos. Now with the Cowboys, Williams is the lead back but in a room with Miles Sanders and Jaydon Blue. In an RBBC that could be a three-headed unit, Williams is looking more like an RB4/deep flex option for a fantasy perspective in 2025.

Bears | D'Andre Swift to adjust approach    Thu Jun 5, 01:28 AM

Chicago Bears RB D'Andre Swift has been working with running backs coach Eric Bieniemy to avoid negative runs that result from him trying to do to much.

Footballguys view: Swift has a tendency to dance behind the line of scrimmage, and that's not what the team needs. Bieniemy is a seasoned running back coach, so Swift should be listening intently to what he's being coached to do. Swift is coming off a career-low 3.8 yards per carry in 2024. We could see him approaching the 1,000-yard mark this year with around 35 catches as the Bears lead back. That makes Swift an RB2 with upside for Fantasy GMs out there.

Chargers | Najee Harris looking to be more efficient in LA    Thu Jun 5, 12:55 AM

Los Angeles Chargers RB Najee Harris has ranked second to last in cumulative rushing EPA (Expected Points Added) since he entered the NFL in 2021, per ESPN's Bill Barnwell, who writes that Harris could be more productive in his new role as LA presents a better situation than the one he had during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Footballguys view: The Chargers have both Harris and rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton to soften up defenses in 2025. Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh said he plans to deploy Harris and Hampton as a â€"1-2 punch.” A four-time 1,000-yard rusher, Harris is a power back who can live between the tackles. His numbers could be more efficient this year with his new team because he's splitting time in the backfield with Hampton.

49ers | Jauan Jennings limited Wednesday    Wed Jun 4, 06:05 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Jauan Jennings (undisclosed) participated in individual drills during practice Wednesday, June 4, but sat out team drills.

Footballguys view: While the San Francisco 49ers struggled to secure six wins last season, Jennings had his most productive campaign. He set career highs in targets (113), receptions (77), receiving yards (975), and touchdowns (6). Now entering the final year of his contract, Jennings is in line to be the 49ers' top wideout in Week 1, especially with Brandon Aiyuk recovering from a significant knee injury. Jennings is currently a solid value, going as WR34 on Underdog in Round 6.

Texans | Joe Mixon on track for camp    Wed Jun 4, 05:12 PM

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (undisclosed) did not participate in the offseason workout Tuesday, June 3, but is expected to be ready for training camp, according to a source. Mixon has been wearing a walking boot this offseason, according to sources.

Footballguys view: Mixon has been an observer for most of the team's OTAs, but again, there isn't any concern about his availability for training camp. Mixon finished 2023, his first season with the Texans, as RB10. He is being drafted as RB16 with the 51st pick overall in early best balls.

Texans | Dalton Schultz back on field    Wed Jun 4, 04:40 PM

Houston Texans TE Dalton Schultz (undisclosed) participated on the offseason workout Tuesday, June 3, after missing time last week.

Footballguys view: Schultz was reportedly moving well and caught a touchdown pass during Tuesday's session. Before last year, Schultz was widely regarded as a strength for Houston, essentially serving as the fourth option in the aerial attack. However, a disappointing 2024 shoved Schultz off the fantasy radar. He's being drafted as TE27 this offseason.

Saints | Derek Carr placed on retired list    Wed Jun 4, 04:35 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr was placed on the Reserve/Retired list Tuesday, June 3.

Footballguys view: The NFL reserve/retired list is used for players who have officially retired from the league but still have a contract with a team. When a player retires and is placed on this list, the team's contract with them is tolled, meaning the contract remains in place, and the team retains the player's rights if they choose to unretire. As of now, that isn't in the cards for Carr. We'll see if he's in that same place next year.

Broncos | Denver to meet with J.K. Dobbins    Wed Jun 4, 04:07 PM

Free-agent RB J.K. Dobbins (Chargers) is scheduled have dinner with the Denver Broncos coaches Wednesday, June 4, and will visit the team's facility Thursday, June 5, according to a source.

Footballguys view: The Broncos have five RBs on the roster: Jaleel McLaughlin, Audric Estime, Tyler Badie, Blake Watson, and rookie RJ Harvey, who is expected to be the starter. Dobbins had a career-high 905 rushing yards in 13 games in his only season as a Charger. Los Angeles applied the rarely-used unrestricted free agent tender to Dobbins in April, extending the window for his departure to count toward the compensatory pick formula for both the Chargers and his new team. As Profootballtalk.com notes, Dobbins has played well when healthy, but injuries have kept him from fully realizing his potential.

Jets | Malachi Corley works on side    Wed Jun 4, 04:00 PM

New York Jets WR Malachi Corley (undisclosed) worked with a trainer on the side during practice Tuesday, June 3.

Footballguys view: The previous regime found no use for Corley's talents, and the third-round pick was on the inactive list for much of his rookie campaign. This year, a new regime that has no loyalty to him isn't sure where he fits. "Now, we have a ways to go to really try to figure out exactly where we're going to place him," new HC Aaron Glenn said, "because he's been in and out, that's just what it is." The more Corley has to sit out with injuries, the harder it will be for the new staff to figure out his role.

Patriots | Rhamondre Stevenson comfortable with offense    Wed Jun 4, 03:52 PM

New England Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson said he is very comfortable with the offensive playbook because offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was with the Patriots when he was a rookie.

Footballguys view: Stevenson rushed for 606 yards with five touchdowns during that rookie campaign. He averaged 4.6 yards per carry. Stevenson might still have his spot atop the team's running back depth chart, but New England drafted TreVeyon Henderson in the second round of April's NFL Draft. More action for Henderson would mean less for Stevenson, who rushed for 801 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns for the Patriots over 15 games in 2024. Fantasy investors are drafting that way. Henderson is RB28 on the Footballguys Projections. Stevenson is RB37.

Bills | James Cook misses another workout    Wed Jun 4, 03:21 PM

Buffalo Bills RB James Cook was not present for the offseason workout Tuesday, June 3.

Footballguys view: Cook has made his desire for a new contract clear, but the Bills don't appear to have budged, even after his second straight 1,000-yard season, in which he averaged nearly five yards per carry and rushed for a league-high 16 touchdowns. So, Cook is staying away from voluntary OTAs. His absence will continue to draw attention, but at this point, there's no reason to believe Cook won't be on the field for the regular season.

Commanders | Terry McLaurin remains absent    Wed Jun 4, 02:34 PM

Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin was not present for the offseason workout Wednesday, June 4.

Nobody is pressing the panic button just yet, but the situation needs a successful resolution sooner rather than later. We'll continue to watch for more.

Steelers | Two TEs may have chance to make team    Wed Jun 4, 02:11 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE DJ Thomas-Jones and TE JJ Galbreath may have a better chance to make the 53-man roster with TE Donald Parham (Achilles) to miss significant time, in the opinion of PennLive.com's Nick Farabaugh.

Steelers | Jaylen Warren open to bigger role    Wed Jun 4, 02:01 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren said he is ready to take on a large role in the offense but does not expected his role to significantly increase since RBs Kaleb Johnson and Kenneth Gainwell are on the roster.

Footballguys view: Warren still projects as the lead running back, but sharing with Johnson and Gainwell is baked into Warren's RB27 Footballguys Projection. But even at that, Johnson's RB33 spot and lower average draft position makes him appealing. Both are reasonably priced depth options at the position.

Browns | Kenny Pickett first QB Wednesday    Wed Jun 4, 01:32 PM

Cleveland Browns QB Kenny Pickett received the first snaps with the starting offense during team drills Wednesday, June 4.

Footballguys view: The Browns brought back 2023 hero Joe Flacco and drafted two young quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. However, Pickett was the first man up as the team took the field. Still, as USA Today suggests, it's far too early to give any of this credence. Training camp does not even start for another month and a half. That said, the Athletic's Zac Jackson recently advised readers there's "almost no scenario" in which either rookie would win the starting job in the offseason. The early expectation is Joe Flacco will open the season as the starter.

Cowboys | Micah Parsons will report    Wed Jun 4, 09:13 AM

Dallas Cowboys EDGE Micah Parsons announced on social media that he'll be at minicamp next week. A long-term deal is not done, but Parsons indicated he would report and prepare like he's going to be there for the first day of training camp.

Footballguys view: Parsons did not indicate whether he would participate in the minicamp, and it seems unlikely he does any on-field work. As for training camp, Parson said that he will join the team in Oxnard, California, in July only if he has signed a contract extension by then. That was the expectation, with the four-time Pro Bowl still awaiting an extension. Parsons, 25, became eligible for an extension after the 2023 season, and he's expected eventually to get an extension that will top Ja'Marr Chase's annual average of $40.25 million, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.

Packers | Kenny Clark had offseason surgery    Wed Jun 4, 01:25 AM

Green Bay Packers DL Kenny Clark underwent surgery on his foot shortly after the season to fix an injury he sustained during the team's Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles that took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Clark indicated he dealt with a bunion and bone spurs, which led to the surgery.

Footballguys view: Clark posted his lowest tackle total since his rookie season of 2006 and had only one sack all season after totaling 15.5 over the previous three seasons combined. Clark just began doing individual drills during OTA practices this week, so those interested in investing in him as a depth piece in IDP leagues will want to monitor his progress.

Packers | Romeo Doubs impressing coaches    Wed Jun 4, 12:59 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs looks like a 'specimen,' per head coach Matt LaFleur, who says there is 'a difference in his physique.' Doubs, who has been the subject of some trade speculation, 'remains an essential part of the Packers offense,' in the opinion of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Ryan Wood.

Footballguys view: Doubs exited the team's Jan. 12 playoff loss to the Eagles with his second concussion in less than two months. According to Wood, Doubs declined to answer a question about what doctors have told him regarding the potential for more concussions in the future. He also declined to answer when doctors cleared him to begin working out again, though he has had seemingly no limitations during the offseason program. At this point, Doubs, at WR69, is third among the Green Bay wideouts on the Footbalguys Projections, behind Matthew Golden (WR43) and Jayden Reed (WR46).

Packers | Jordan Love feeling healthy again    Wed Jun 4, 12:18 AM

Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love rested for several weeks following the team's elimination from the playoffs to heal from knee, groin, and elbow injuries suffered during the 2024 season, pausing both working out and throwing the ball. He's feeling 'good' now and has been a full participant in the team's organized team activities.

Footballguys view: For what it's worth, Love looked sharp in this week's OTA sessions. He completed six of seven pass attempts for 75 yards and a touchdown during Tuesday's two-minute drill. He threw a 30-yard touchdown to Jayden Reed before completing a two-point conversion to Romeo Doubs for the "win." Because defenses tend to dominate in early practices as the offense works on timing and execution, Tuesday's effort was viewed as a positive sign for the offense. Still, Green Bay is a run-heavy offense, and Love doesn't have much rushing equity. He opens up as QB18 on the Footballguys Projections.

Seahawks | Sam Darnold Gets Vote Of Confidence After Poor Practice    Wed Jun 4, 12:10 AM

If there was any lingering notion that a healthy Sam Darnold could be beat out for the Seattle Seahawks' starting quarterback job, coach Mike Macdonald put it to rest in decisive fashion Tuesday.Asked whether anything other than an injury between now and the start of the season could lead the Seahawks to go with another quarterback, Macdonald replied: "No, you guys are crazy . . . It's just not going to happen. Sam's our starting quarterback. We love him. He's doing a tremendous job."

Footballguys view: The question came a day after Darnold delivered an up-and-down performance -- including two interceptions across three plays during red-zone drills -- in the Seahawks' fourth day of OTAs, the first that was open to reporters. Macdonald emphasized that it's still early in the offseason program and that some mistakes are expected to happen. The Seahawks signed Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million contract after trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders. Rookie Jalen Milroe and veteran backup Drew Lock are the other options here.

Cowboys | CeeDee Lamb sidelined Tuesday    Wed Jun 4, 12:04 AM

Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb (shoulder) did not participate in the team's OTA session Tuesday, June 3.

Footballguys view: This seems like a non-issue, and a source told Athlon, there were "no red flags." The consensus WR1 heading into 2024, Lamb's numbers dipped noticeably when Dak Prescott was lost to a hamstring injury. Add in a shoulder injury of his own, and it helps explain how Lamb went from averaging an NFL-best 23.8 fantasy points per game in 2023 to 17.6 points per game this past season. Still, Lamb is the fourth player off the board in early drafts going as the WR3.

Bears | Luther Burden remains sidelined    Wed Jun 4, 12:03 AM

Chicago Bears WR Luther Burden III (undisclosed) did not participate at the team's mandatory minicamp, according to sources Tuesday, June 3.

Footballguys view: Burden, who suffered an injury to his midsection in a May 10 practice, is missing critical opportunities to build chemistry with quarterback Caleb Williams during OTAs. The hope is Burden can return during minicamp or the second phase of OTAs next week. If not, training camp in July will be the next time fans will look to see if these guys step on the practice field.

Panthers | Tommy Tremble could return during preseason    Wed Jun 4, 12:02 AM

Carolina Panthers TE Tommy Tremble (back) could return before the end of the preseason, head coach Dave Canales told reporters Tuesday, June 3.

Footballguys view: Tremble had back surgery recently early last month. Tremble, who signed a new two-year deal with the Panthers ahead of free agency in March, joined the team as a 2021 third-round pick. He has 85 catches for 782 yards and nine touchdowns in 61 career games. Ja'Tavion Sanders, at TE32 on the Footballguys Projections, is the most fantasy-relevant Panthers tight end.

Steelers | Donald Parham suffers torn Achilles    Wed Jun 4, 12:01 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Donald Parham Jr. (Achilles) suffered a torn Achilles during practice, according to sources Tuesday, June 3. He is expected to miss the entire 2025 season.

Footballguys view: After four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, Parham spent 2024 on the Broncos' practice squad and last played in 2023. With Parham set to miss the season, thhe Steelers have three other tight ends on the roster -- Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, and J.J. Galbreath. Parham's injury might explain the report that Pittsburgh and Miami have resumed discussing a possible trade that would send Jonnu Smith to the Steelers.

Dolphins | Jonnu Smith Trade Talks With Steelers Resume    Tue Jun 3, 05:59 PM

Back in it: the Steelers renewed conversations today with Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith, who is seeking a new contract. The trade between the Steelers and Dolphins is still alive, per source.

Footballguys view: This report by ESPN's Adam Schefter comes less than eight hours after Schefter reported that the two sides weren't expected to cut a deal. Again, where Smith plays matters. He finished behind only Brock Bowers, Trey McBride, and George Kittle leaguewide in receiving yards by a tight end in 2024 en route to a TE4 finish. Smith is going as TE7 in early best-ball drafts.

Patriots | No Word On Whether Stefon Diggs Has Passed Important Physical    Tue Jun 3, 03:52 PM

Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs showed up for Monday's OTA session. His presence raises an obvious question. Has he passed the all-important physical mentioned in several portions of his contract? The Patriots have declined to answer whether the physical has been passed.

Footballguys view: Diggs was on hand for Monday's OTA session; he was limited to individual drills. The physical, if passed, will clear Diggs to fully practice and play. In addition, Diggs' $12 million signing bonus is expressly tied to passing that physical. Until Diggs passes the physical, the Patriots (who have "no plans" to release him) have a potential escape hatch from his contract. Stay tuned. Updating a previous report, New England Patriots LB Jahlani Tavai (calf) suffered a calf injury on Monday, June 2, that is expected to keep him sidelined until training camp, according to sources.

Footballguys view: When Tavai had to exit practice on Monday, reporters noted that it looked like a potentially significant injury. So this latest report is good news. As pointed out by Mike Reiss of ESPN, Tavai had been in the mix at inside linebacker during the offseason program, though free-agent signee Robert Spillane has been leading the charge.
