NFL | John Brown wants to continue playing Mon Jan 23, 07:54 PM
Free-agent WR John Brown (Bills) said he will work on getting healthy this offseason and will look to play for a team in 2023.
Footballguys view: Brown is a seasoned veteran who still has speed, but he won't generate much interest this offseason. Instead, he should stay in shape and wait for a call around training camp or early in the regular season when guys get hurt. |

Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham were named head coaches of the Senior Bowl teams.
Footballguys view: This is the first time (in some time) the Senior Bowl won't have full pro staffs coaching the All-Star teams. Instead, that's what the Shrine Bowl is doing. The Senior Bowl is going to have coordinators run the team, and hopefully they run through very scout-friendly drills instead of a standard pro practice. |

Illinois QB Tommy DeVito has announced on his personal Twitter account that he has declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He recently had a waiver denied by the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility. DeVito passed for 2,650 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and just four interceptions while leading the Illini to the ReliaQuest Bowl, its first postseason appearance since 2019.
Link to storyUCLA RB Zach Charbonnet declared for the 2023 NFL Draft on Monday, Jan. 16. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his two seasons at UCLA after transferring in from Michigan prior to the 2022 season.
Link to storySouthern California WR Jordan Addison will forego his remaining eligibility and is entering the 2023 NFL Draft.
Link to storyTexas Christian WR Quentin Johnston will forego his remaining eligibility and is entering the 2023 NFL draft.
Link to storyFormer New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton told FOX Sports 1's Colin Cowherd that he expects the team that hires him will have to trade at least a mid-to-late first-round draft pick to the Saints as compensation. Payton is expected to speak with the team owners of the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos and Houston Texans this week.
Link to storyOhio State QB C.J. Stroud declared for the 2023 NFL Draft Monday, Jan. 16.
Footballguys view: Stroud is arguably the top quarterback in this draft class. He's a classic pocket passer who can spread the ball around the entire field. Stroud has high intelligence, and he does a fantastic job with pass placement on short-to-intermediate routes. He does provide some escapability from the pocket, but he's not a scrambler and not a threat with his legs. Throwing on the run, especially to his left, is a problem for Stroud and pressure brings inconsistency to his game. Stroud should be a top-5 pick in the 2023 NFL draft. |
Georgia TE Darnell Washington will forego his remaining eligibility and enter the 2023 NFL Draft.
Footballguys view: Washington is a huge target, measuring in at 6-feet, 7-inches, 270 pounds. Because of his size, Washington can easily get better position on the ball than smaller defenders no matter if it's a linebacker or safety tasked with covering him. Washington is not a burner, so he won't be a seam ripper at the pro level. Instead, he can be a big-bodied player who could excel with more looks in the red zone. |
Ohio State University C Luke Wypler declared for the 2023 NFL Draft on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Link to storyUniversity of Georgia DL Jalen Carter declared for the 2023 NFL Draft on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Liam Coen was named offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at the University of Kentucky Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Footballguys view: Chris Mortensen reported this a month ago, and now the move is official. Coen goes back to the gig he had before he took the job with the Rams. We'll see if Rams' head coach Sean McVay ends up retiring and heading to a TV booth. |
University of Iowa DL Lukas Van Ness announced his intention to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Link to storyThe NFL announced that the Monday Night Football game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals that was suspended on Monday, Jan. 2, due to the cardiac arrest episode of Bills S Damar Hamlin will not be resumed this week.
Footballguys view: The league did not announce any changes to its Week 18 schedule, which includes Buffalo hosting the New England Patriots and the Bengals hosting the Baltimore Ravens. The NFL also has yet to announce a decision on resuming the game at a later date. |

University of Alabama S Brian Branch announced his intention to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft on Monday, Jan. 2.
Link to storyAlabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs and EDGE Will Anderson Jr., declared for the 2023 NFL Draft Monday, Jan. 2.
Footballguys view: Gibbs is one of the most talented runners in this draft class. He's got speed, he can run with authority, and Gibbs is good enough to run routes as a receiver if asked. He'll need to add muscle if/when a team asks him to carry a full workload at the pro level. Gibbs also needs to show better skill in pass protection, as most young backs do, in order to earn the trust of his staff. Make no mistake about it, Gibbs has the talent to make big plays in the NFL. |
Alabama QB Bryce Young declared for the 2023 NFL Draft Monday, Jan. 2.
Footballguys view: Young is largely considered the best quarterback in the 2023 NFL draft, and he's a possible no.1 overall pick. He's got all the tools of a modern quarterback, and Young can beat a defense with his arm or his legs. Young will be considered undersized at 5-feet, 11-inches tall but he's got supreme confidence as a passer. His arm strength allows him to fit passes into tight windows that others don't dare throw into. |
Mississippi RB Zach Evans announced that he is entering the 2023 NFL Draft, in a post on his personal Twitter account Friday, Dec. 30.
Footballguys view: Evans is an exciting back who could thrive at the pro level. He's got good speed, but most importantly he's got the footwork to create space or change direction without losing that speed. More than just a speed back, Evans is a good 'inside/out' runner who does not shy away from contact. He's also shown the ability to be a solid receiver out of the backfield. |
Louisiana State WR Kayshon Boutte announced Wednesday, Dec. 28, that he is declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft. Earlier this month, Boutte had announced he was planning to return to school.
Footballguys view: Boutte had a change of heart and is headed to the NFL. He's one of the most athletically gifted receivers in this class. Boutte combines strength, route running, and burst to make for a dangerous playmaker with the ball in his hands. A severe leg injury in 2021 will have to be further examined by teams interested in his services. |
Free-agent TE Rob Gronkowski (Buccaneers) won't come out of retirement in 2022, but he is leaving the door open for a possible return in 2023 after speaking with multiple teams this season, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Sunday, Dec. 25.

Northwestern OT Peter Skoronski announced that he is entering the 2023 NFL Draft, in a post on his personal Twitter account Friday, Dec. 16.
Link to storyFree-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (knee) has met with the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys but is not close to signing with any team at this time, according to sources. He recently said he does not see the point of playing in the regular season.

North Carolina WR Josh Downs announced that he is entering the 2023 NFL Draft Saturday, Dec. 10. He will not play in the team's bowl game versus the University of Oregon.
Footballguys view: Downs is fast, and he can take the top off the defense every time he's on the field. He has great acceleration off the line of scrimmage, and we like his burst at the break on his route. Downs is not big, so physical coverage can disrupt his game. |
Nebraska DE Ochaun Mathis announced that he is entering the 2023 NFL Draft, in a post on his personal Twitter account Friday, Dec. 9.
Link to storyLouisville QB Malik Cunningham announced that he is entering the 2023 NFL Draft, in a post on his personal Twitter account Friday, Dec. 9. He will not play in the team's bowl game versus the University of Cincinnati.
Footballguys view: Cunningham has the athleticism required for a modern quarterback. He can attack a defense with his legs, and he's got a strong enough arm to put the ball where it needs to be. Mechanically, Cunningham needs some work but he does have a quick release and generally makes quick decisions with the ball. |
Penn State WR Parker Washington announced that he is entering the 2023 NFL Draft, in a post on his personal Twitter account Friday, Dec. 9.
Footballguys view: Washington is a threat to score from anywhere on the field. He is dangerous after the catch, and Washington has good hands and concentration as a route-runner who can work all three levels. |
Stanford QB Tanner McKee announced Thursday, Dec. 8, that he is entering the 2023 NFL Draft.
Link to storyOhio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba announced his intention to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft on Monday, Dec. 5.
Footballguys view: Smith-Njigba was nigh unstoppable in 2021, even though he had two first-round receivers (Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson) in front of him on the depth chart. Last year, he set a Big Ten receiving record with 1,606 yards. Smith-Njigba also set the Rose Bowl record in 2021 with 347 receiving yards on 15 receptions and was named MVP of the game. His 2022 season was cut short due to a nagging hamstring injury, and Smith-Njigba only caught five passes for 43 yards in his final season with the Buckeyes. He's a technician with great hands, and we'll see how he performs for scouts leading up to the 2023 NFL draft. |
Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Rams) will make a decision on which team he'll sign with by the middle of next week, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Sunday, Dec. 4.
Footballguys view: First, we need to see where Beckham decides to go. Second, we need to see if he will even be able to return for some warmup games in the regular season. There are plenty of reports about Beckham not being able to play until the postseason. Beckham has had visits with the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Buffalo Bills. |
Odell Beckham Jr player page
Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (knee) will likely continue to rehabilitate his knee for at least another month, which makes it unlikely he will be able to return to the field at any point during the regular season.
Footballguys view: There is considerable doubt that Beckham can return to the field during the regular season. He's meeting with teams right now, but Beckham is not working out for teams as he continues to recover from his knee injury. |

Louisiana State University WR Kayshon Boutte announced he will return to school for the 2023 season Monday, Dec. 5.
Link to storyUniversity of Florida QB Anthony Richardson announced his intention to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft on Monday, Dec. 5.
Footballguys view: Richardson is still somewhat raw as a quarterback, and he needs more experience as a passer, but his physical gifts are off the charts. He's a fantastic athlete who can make defenses pay with his arm and his legs. In 12 games this season, Richardson had 2,549 yards passing with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also added in 103 rushing attempts for 654 yards and nine touchdowns. |
University of South Carolina CB Cam Smith announced his intention to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft in a post on his personal Twitter account on Friday, Dec. 2.
Link to storyUniversity of Kentucky QB Will Levis announced his intention to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Footballguys view: Levis was a 2018 recruit coming out of high school, the same year of Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. He began his college career at Penn State, but Levis only started a couple of games in three years. He transferred to Kentucky and found immediate stardom over the last two seasons. Levis can take off and run when under pressure, but he does lack patience in the pocket because of his athleticism. We should see him go off the board in the mid-first round of the 2023 NFL draft. |
Free-agent C Matt Paradis (knee) recently received medical clearance to play and is receiving interest from multiple teams, according to a source.
Link to storyBoston College WR Zay Flowers announced his intention to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft on Thursday, Dec. 1.
Footballguys view: Flowers is going to be one of the most dynamic receivers in this draft class. He's electric in the open field, and Flowers can make defenders look silly when he's running after the catch. Flowers is capable of playing a movement "Z" or in the slot, and he can attack all three levels of the field. |
University of Nebraska WR Trey Palmer announced his intention to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft on Saturday, Nov. 26.
Footballguys view: Palmer played three seasons for the LSU Tigers before following interim HC Mickey Joseph to Nebraska. He was able to post strong numbers with the Cornhuskers, racking up 1,043 yards with 71 receptions and nine touchdowns. Palmer tracks the ball well, and he has no problem working within traffic on short-to-intermediate routes. He's got good burst off the line of scrimmage, and Palmer plays with the concentration of a pro. |
Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Rams) is currently scheduled to visit the New York Giants in early December, followed by the Buffalo Bills and the Dallas Cowboys. Conversations with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens are also ongoing.
Footballguys view: That sounds about right. Beckham is going to have a good choice of quality teams to sign with before the playoffs. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport believes Beckham is unlikely to play before late December. |

University of Utah RB Tavion Thomas announced his intention to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft on Friday, Nov. 25.
Link to storyFree-agent RB Melvin Gordon (Broncos) said he has received interest from multiple teams. He said a few playoff teams are interested in signing him to their practice squad so he can learn the playbook for a few weeks.

Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Rams) is not expected to sign with the Los Angeles Rams or the Green Bay Packers because of their disappointing seasons.
Link to storyOdell Beckham Jr player page
Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. plans to visit the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants after the Thanksgiving holiday, according to multiple sources. It is possible that he could meet with other teams before signing a contract but these are the only known scheduled visits.
Footballguys view: Beckham could be an upgrade over Michael Gallup, but like Gallup, he could also be slow to get back to full speed only nine months removed from ACL surgery. Don't go overboard bidding for him on your waiver wire. |

Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Rams) wants to whittle down the current list of potential teams interested in him as soon as possible and make a decision on his new club by the end of November, according to multiple league sources.

Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (knee) is expected to be medically cleared to return by the end of this upcoming week.

Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Rams) is not expected to return until the middle of December, per sources on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
Footballguys view: It was thought initially that Beckham could be back in November. Now, it seems like he's going to return from his Super Bowl ACL injury in the final month of the season. He's looking to sign with a contender, and the Rams seem to be his most likely landing spot. |

Free-agent RB Todd Gurley (Falcons) said he has not officially retired but likely will not play in the NFL again.
Footballguys view: Gurley hasn't played since 2020, so it's been apparent that his playing days are done. Last playing with the Falcons, Gurley did not look like his former self. We'll always remember Gurley for his superstar performance with the Rams that made him a fantasy favorite for years. Even though it's not yet official, this is Gurley admitting he's retired. |

Oklahoma State DT Brendon Evers told reporters he intends to sit out the rest of the season and prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft, according to Brett McMurphy of The Action Network.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey appears to be generating interest from multiple teams, including the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: There are quite a few teams likely interested in McCaffrey. The trade deadline is coming up on November 1, and we imagine McCaffrey will be on the move. The Bills would be interesting given their high-powered offense. We'll see if they make the move to upgrade their roster and push all their chips in for a Super Bowl championship. |

Free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Rams) is targeting a mid-November return to the field, according to multiple sources. He is continuing to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament but has been cleared for all non-contact work.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams QB Blake Bortles announced his retirement Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Footballguys view: The no.3 pick in the 2014 NFL draft, Bortles will be remembered as a bust but he did have flashes as a pro. He was one game away from the Super Bowl as the quarterback of the Jaguars back in 2017, and Bortles made WR Allen Robinson a fantasy favorite back in 2015. |
