Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers WR Deebo Samuel said he has received permission from the team to seek a trade this offseason.

"It was a hard conversation to have with [head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] because of our relationship," Samuel said on Sunday. "But I have to do what's best. I'm more than thankful for the Niners giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, but now I think it's best that we find another team." Samuel and the 49ers are coming off a disappointing 2024 campaign. The team finished 6-11, and Samuel endured one of his least productive seasons, tallying just 806 scrimmage yards and four total touchdownsâ€"his lowest totals since an injury-plagued 2020 season. There are plenty of receiver-needy teams, so we'll be watching to see what kind of interest Samuel draws. |

| Footballguys view: Samuel is only due $1.17 million in salary next year as the 49ers restructured his contract in 2024. He doesn't play a traditional wide receiver role, but Samuel is only 29 and at that price, there should be multiple teams interested. Brandon Aiyuk will be coming back from an ACL tear and Jauan Jennings showed that he can be a #1 receiver for Brock Purdy last year, so the passing game would be in good shape even if Samuel is traded. The team reportedly had both Samuel and Aiyuk on the block last year before signing Aiyuk to a new contract, so this item isn't a surprise. |

49ers receiver Deebo Samuel played Sunday night after a bout with pneumonia sent him to the hospital earlier in the week. He left, though, with an injury. The 49ers listed him as questionable to return with an injury to his ribs. He did not return.
| Footballguys view: Samuel had four carries for 15 yards and four catches for 71 yards. He also had a 66-yard touchdown called back by a holding penalty. The Niners have a Week 9 bye, so Samuel will have additional time to recuperate and recover. We'll follow up as needed. |

With Brandon Aiyuk lost for the season, the 49ers are hoping to get Samuel and fellow wide receiver Jauan Jennings back for Sunday night's matchup with the visiting Dallas Cowboys. Jennings did not play against Kansas City because of a hip injury suffered in an Oct. 10 win at the Seattle Seahawks. If they don't get either or both of Samuel and Jennings for the Dallas game, the Niners would again have to turn to a wideout group that includes rookies Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing, second-year player Ronnie Bell and veteran Chris Conley, who is also day-to-day with an ankle injury. |

Nothing specific about the illness has come out in any of the reports through the first quarter, but The Athletic's Matt Barrows reported that Samuel came out of the locker room for the second half without his uniform on, wearing regular clothes instead. When adding in Brandon Aiyuk's injury (feared to be a torn ACL) and Jauan Jennings' absence, the Niners were missing their top three receivers for the second half of Sunday's game leaving them with veterans Chris Conley and Ronnie Bell and rookies Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing. |
