Giants | Russell Wilson reveals why he chose NY Giants Mon Jun 23, 01:09 PM
New York Giants WR Malik Nabers was the primary reason that Russell Wilson decided to sign with the team this offseason.'I came here because of (Nabers). I really wanted to play with someone who is special like him,' Wilson told Empire Sports Media's Anthony Rivardo.
Footballguys view: As a rookie, Nabers led the NFL in target share. He can make contested catches, get behind defenses, and create after the catch. He's a do-it-all receiver whom the Giants will hope to build around for the next decade. Whether it's Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, or Jaxson Dart under center, it probably can't get much worse than what Nabers dealt with (and found success in) last year. |

New York Giants QB Russell Wilson is still expected to be the team's Week 1 starter but QB Jaxson Dart has shown a great deal of improvement this offseason, according to head coach Brian Daboll. In the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it seems to be a matter of 'when, not if' Dart will assume the starting role.
Footballguys view: After an 18-32-1 start to his head coaching career, it's understandable that Brian Daboll might be feeling some heat. After trading up to get Dart in Round 1 of the NFL Draft, any promise shown this year could buy him some extra job security. It's hard to know precisely when Dart will take the reins. But a bit of rushing upside and throwing the ball to Malik Nabers could make him an interesting late-season option for fantasy. |

New York Giants WR Darius Slayton has developed a 'quality connection' with QB Russell Wilson, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Slayton has 'what the heck' flex appeal for Fantasy GMs. Wilson should be the starter Week 1 for the Giants, and he may be starting the entire season if 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart isn't yet ready to take over. Let's see what this connection looks like in the preseason, but it sounds like Slayton could be a late-round flier in deeper drafts. |

New York Giants QB Russell Wilson received most of the work with the first-team offense during practice Wednesday, May 28.
Footballguys view: While Wilson took most of the first-team snaps, rookie Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston also snuck in a few. Tommy DeVito fit in for four third-team reps throughout the practice. "They'll all get reps," coach Brian Daboll said of the plan for the QBs this spring. But make no mistake: Wilson is expected to begin the season as New York's starter after signing a one-year deal with the franchise in March. Even at that, holding on to the job will likely depend on overall team success. Because of that, Wilson opens as QB30 on the Footballguys 2025 Projections. |

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent QB Russell Wilson is expected to be an option for the New York Giants if he hits the free-agent market, according to ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.
Footballguys view: Any available veteran with a pulse is fair game for a team with only Tommy DeVito under contract. It's worth noting that Wilson seems eager to return to Pittsburgh, and talks with the Steelers are ongoing. The Raiders have also been mentioned as a possible destination if things don't work out between Wilson and the Steelers. |

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent QB Russell Wilson said he is focusing on staying with the Steelers and is not looking at other teams.
Footballguys view: The Seahawks loom as a possibility if Wilson ends up on a different team next season. The Steelers are expected to keep one of Wilson and Justin Fields after team owner and president Art Rooney II said as much earlier in the work, but he added that they won't keep both. |
Russell Wilson player page
Steelers president Art Rooney II has weighed in on what he'd like to see the team do at the quarterback position. The Steelers had Russell Wilson and Justin Fields on one-year contracts during the 2024 season, and both of them started games during the regular season. "I think they're both capable quarterbacks, and my preference would be to sign one of them, so that'll be the priority, and I think that will give us the best opportunity to move forward," Rooney said via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: Wilson got the majority of the work, and the Steelers did not make a change even as the offense's performance cratered in the final weeks. Head coach Mike Tomlin was noncommittal about any plans that the team has at the position, but Rooney's comments are worth noting. The Steelers can start talks on a contract with both quarterbacks at any point, but there was no word on Monday about how quickly Rooney would like to see things move on that front. |

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent QB Russell Wilson said that contract extension discussions with the team have already gotten underway, during an appearance on ESPN's 'Pat McAfee Show' Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Footballguys view: The Steelers don't have a starting quarterback on the roster for next year with both Wilson and Justin Fields set to hit free agency. Wilson may or may not have interest from the Las Vegas Raiders with Pete Carroll hired as their new head coach. Reports indicate the two have patched up their problems with their relationship with the Seahawks years ago. |

Impending free-agent QB Russell Wilson (Steelers) might be of interest as a stop-gap quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, according to a source. Per the source, Wilson and new head coach Pete Carroll have 'mended fences' from their time together with the Seattle Seahawks.
Footballguys view: After seeing how things went for the Steelers passing game this season, it's hard to say this would be good for Brock Bowers, but it could be worse than catching passes from Russell Wilson. The new general manager John Spytek will also need to decide whether to trade up for a quarterback, either Miami's Cam Ward or Colorado's Shadeur Sanders. |

Footballguys view: The Steelers (10-6) clinched a spot in the AFC playoffs three weeks ago, but their position in the postseason and where that first game will be played remains a question. Winning is important to them, so expect a fully-rested Wilson to start and play as usual. |

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson went 23 of 37 for 205 yards, no touchdown passes, and an interception vs. the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16 on Wednesday, Dec. 25. He rushed six times for 55 yards and a touchdown but was sacked five times.
Footballguys view: Wilson struggled to find time against the Chiefs. He was under duress often, sometimes by his own fault, and was hit nine times (and sacked five times). We'll see if he can bounce back in Week 18 against the Bengals. |

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson went 29-for-38 for 414 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13.
Footballguys view: Wilson had the highest passing yards total in the first half of his career and generally had an easy time moving the ball against one of the worst defenses in the league. Even his interception, which was returned for a touchdown, came on what was probably a missed holding/pass interference call. He'll face the Browns for the second time in three weeks and has some streamer value in Week 14. |

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson completed 21 of 28 passes for 270 yards, 1 touchdown, and 0 interceptions in a Week 12 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Wilson also ran three times for 10 yards.
Footballguys view: Wilson was very good in bad conditions. The only question is why the Steelers didn't rely on him more before he led a furious fourth quarter comeback only to see the Browns re-take the lead in the waning seconds. Wilson will be a good streamer next week in what should be better weather at Cincinnati. |

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson went 14-for-28 for 195 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against the Washington Commanders in Week 10.
Footballguys view: Wilson was uneven against a game Commanders defense, but he came through at the most important moments, including a game-winning 32 yard bomb to Mike Williams for the game-winning score. Wilson has value in 2QB/Superflex and he might even be worth starting next week when the suspect Ravens pass defense comes to Pittsburgh. |

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson is expected to start over QB Justin Fields in Week 7, per sources on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Footballguys view: Mike Tomlin believes Wilson gives the team a better chance to win, although they were 4-2 with Fields starting. Wilson is not the player he used to be, and he lacks the escapability of Fields. We're not exactly sure why this move was made, and we'll see how Wilson can handle pressure against the Jets on Sunday night. Oh yeah, Fields should still have a package of plays in this game and moving forward. |

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson got first-team reps in practice on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Footballguys view: Wilson is in line to start in Week 7 against the Jets. He's not the mobile quarterback he used to be, so expect Wilson to take a lot of sacks. Even though Justin Fields is likely to be benched in favor of Wilson, we could see a package of plays for the more athletic quarterback. |
Russell Wilson player page
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Russell Wilson (calf) is in line to start in Week 7 against the New York Jets, according to sources. He'll work with the first-team in practice this week.
Footballguys view: While Mike Tomlin hasn't confirmed this news, the coach acknowledged Wilson is "in consideration" to start. Tomlin said he would choose between Wilson and Justin Fields as the starting quarterback "closer to game time." Tomlin, who has continued to list Wilson as QB1 on the depth chart throughout the duration of the quarterback's injury, was vague on the exact plan for the division of labor in practice this week. The Steelers are 4-2 with Fields as the starting quarterback, including Sunday's win against the Raiders, when he rushed for two touchdowns. Fields also has five passing touchdowns with just one interception and one fumble. But the Steelers rank 28th in passing yards per game and 20th in points per game. So how could the offense change with Wilson at quarterback? "It remains to be seen," Tomlin said, "and I think that's one of the cute things about this discussion." We'll continue to monitor. |
