Falcons | Kaleb McGary could wind up on IR Sat Aug 23, 09:33 AM
Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said that OG Kaleb McGary (leg) will miss 'significant time' and could be placed on the Reserve/Injured list, as a result of an injury sustained during practice Wednesday, Aug. 20. He was carted off the field and appeared to be favoring his left leg prior to the team's 11-on-11 drills.

Link to storyCincinnati Bengals RB Tahj Brooks could open the season as the primary backup running back for the Bengals, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Ben Baby.
Link to storySan Francisco 49ers RB Jordan James (finger) has dealt with injuries during training camp and is unlikely to have a big role in the offense early in the season, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner.
Link to storyChicago Bears RB Kyle Monangai has performed well during training camp and has a chance to earn a sizeable role behind RB D'Andre Swift, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Courtney Cronin.
Link to storyUpdating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers DE Derrick Harmon (knee) has been diagnosed with a sprained medial collateral ligament and is expected to be sidelined for around a month, according to sources. He could be a candidate to start the season on the Reserve/Injured list.
Link to storyNew Orleans Saints RB Devin Neal (hamstring) has a good chance to make the 53-man roster even though he is dealing with a hamstring injury, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Katherine Terrell.
Link to storyGreen Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed (foot) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 21, and is still walking around with a slight limp.
Footballguys view: Reed hasn't practiced since July 31. He has at least shed his walking boot last week and he's catching passes after practice, but it's reasonable to think that he might not be himself in the early season games. He also carries a risk of reinjury or diminished ability if he has to nurse the injury all season. First round pick Matthew Golden has had a great summer, and he should be the first Packer receiver taken in redraft leagues. |

Los Angeles Chargers WR Quentin Johnston (concussion) is in concussion protocol, according to ESPN.com's Kris Rhim. Head coach Jim Harbaugh had no update on his status for Week 1.
Footballguys view: Johnston has two weeks to recover before the season opener against the Chiefs. If he's not ready for the game - which is on a Friday in Brazil - then Keenan Allen could be on the field enough to consider playing in deep PPR leagues. |

Carolina Panthers TE Tommy Tremble (back) was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform list on Thursday, Aug. 21, following back surgery in May. The team announced he will not play in their preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Footballguys view: This makes the window for Ja'Tavion Sanders to start the season hot while Tremble is on the mend smaller, but early season matchups against Jacksonville, Arizona, and Atlanta are very promising. Sanders should still be on your waiver wire watch list, especially if Adam Thielen gets dealt to Minnesota. |

Dallas Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue (ankle) is expected to play in the final preseason game.
Footballguys view: Blue has shown the burst and acceleration that got him drafted, but an injury slowed his momentum. No one has emerged in the Cowboys backfield and none are advisable plays against the Eagles in a tough season opener. It's not even clear if any of them are going to be worth a fantasy roster spot in Week 2. |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Jaden Smith was waived Friday, Aug. 22.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers QB Will Howard (finger) could be a candidate to start the season on the Reserve/Injured list, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Brooke Pryor.
Link to storyIndianapolis Colts RB DJ Giddens is expected to play a role in the team's passing game to complement Jonathan Taylor, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder. Per Holder, Taylor is not seen as a strong pass catcher, so this is a role designed for Giddens.
Footballguys view: Taylor was never supposed to be a big contributor in the passing game, so this doesn't really change his outlook, but it does give Giddens a bigger crack in the door to increase his dynasty value while Taylor is still the workhorse in the running game. Giddens should also be the injury upside backup to Taylor, so he's on our late round radar and waiver wire watch list. |
Miami Dolphins RB Ollie Gordon II could challenge Jaylen Wright for the team's RB2 role, according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.
Footballguys view: Gordon has had as good a summer as Wright's has been bad, culminating with Wright getting hurt this week. The Dolphins should be in the market for a running back with De'Von Achane also hurt and Alexander Mattison going down for the season earlier in camp. If you're going to take a Dolphins back late right now, it's Gordon, but that's subject to change. |
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Logan Woodside, RB Evan Hull and TE Kevin Foelsch were released Friday, Aug. 22.

New York Jets TE Mason Taylor is viewed as a 'two-way tight end' by the team, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. Per Cimini, head coach Aaron Glenn believes that Taylor 'has the right DNA for the NFL.'
Link to storyCleveland Browns RB Dylan Sampson will push Jerome Ford for carries while Quinshon Judkins' status is up in the air, according to ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi.
Footballguys view: The Browns are reportedly in the market for a back, and Judkins could (should?) join the team at some point this year. Cleveland had the lowest scoring offense in the league last year, and the 2025 version of Joe Flacco probably isn't going to change that. Neither of these backs are more than late round fliers. |
Houston Texans WR Jayden Higgins is competing for one of the starting receiver jobs but will see plenty of playing time this season even if he is not in the starting lineup, in the opinion of ESPN.com's DJ Bien-Amie.
Footballguys view: Higgins is going to rotate with Xavier Hutchinson to open the season, but if he plays up to his draft slot, he should become the starter in time. The bigger concern with his fantasy value is the Texans lacking a credible running game and overhauled offensive line. He's only a late round bench stash for now. |
New York Giants WR Jordan Bly, WR Zach Pascal and WR Montrell Washington were released Friday, Aug. 22.

Los Angeles Rams RB Jarquez Hunter will likely start the season as the team's No. 3 running back but should receive some playing time as a change of pace back, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Sarah Barshop.
Footballguys view: Blake Corum separated from Hunter this summer, so we should put away any notion that the pick of Hunter spelled the end of any chance for fantasy relevance for Corum. If Kyren Williams goes down this year, Corum is the back we'll be picking up off of the wire. |
New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson brings 'a different gear' to the team's offense, which they have lacked in recent years, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. Per Reiss, he points out the Patriots are creating their own version of the Detroit Lions backfield with Henderson playing the Jahmyr Gibbs role and Rhamondre Stevenson playing the role of David Montgomery.
Footballguys view: If the offense is moderately successful and the team somewhat competitive, both backs should outproduce their ADPs. Stevenson is a slightly better value, while Henderson has a higher ceiling, especially in PPR leagues. Henderson is one of the fastest risers as we get to the peak of draft season, so you might have to take him before his Footballguys consensus ADP of 46 to get him. |

Tennessee Titans TE Gunnar Helm has become a reliable option for QB Cam Ward during training camp and has received work with the first-team offense.
Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles WR Johnny Wilson (ankle, knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Aug. 22.
Link to storyNew England Patriots RB Micah Bernard, WR Phil Lutz, TE Cole Fotheringham, RB Shane Watts, QB Ben Wooldridge and TE Jaheim Bell were released Friday, Aug. 22.

Link to storyWashington Commanders RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt's role will vastly increase after the Commanders traded RB Brian Robinson Jr. to the San Francisco 49ers for a sixth-round pick Friday, Aug. 22.
Link to storyTennessee Titans RB Kalel Mullings has made tough runs in practice and in preseason games, which could put him in line for a short-yardage role that could contribute on special teams
Link to storyTennessee Titans WR Elic Ayomanor has made big plays down the field and across the middle, which makes him a candidate as the future 'X' receiver once he finds more consistency.
Link to storyTennessee Titans TE Gunnar Helm has showcased the ability to find windows in zone coverage and win on seam routes, which has made him a trusted target for QB Cam Ward. It has given Helm more looks with the first-team in 12-personnel sets and plays when he's the only tight end on the field.
Footballguys view: Chig Okonkwo got a lot of first team snaps earlier in the preseason, but Helm is generating buzz and will probably keep Okonkwo from having a significantly larger role in the offense than he had last year. It's not clear that the Titans pass offense will support the value of more than one (Calvin Ridley) passcatcher this season. |
Tennessee Titans WR Chimere Dike has earned a reserve slot receiver role and could see action on special teams.
Link to storyTennessee Titans QB Cam Ward has become a leader on the field, and his trash talk at defensive teammates has provided a spark in practice. He has showcased a deep passing ability with WR Calvin Ridley. He is focused on staying on schedule and getting the ball out when he gets to the top of his drops. 'His timing is up to date,' Ridley said. 'He whips it, he's confident, it's smooth. It's an easy, catchable ball.'
Footballguys view: If anyone benefits from Ward's arrival in what should be an up and down year for the Titans offense at best, it would be Ridley. The quality of wide receivers around Ridley's range of the draft is better than usual, but if he and Ward can get on the same page on deep balls and extended plays, Ridley could be one of the biggest hits of the mid rounds. |
Carolina Panthers WR Adam Thielen has been inquired about via trade from the Minnesota Vikings.
Footballguys view: The trade makes sense for both teams, as the Panthers love their #4 receiver Jalen Coker, and the Vikings need receiver help with Jordan Addison suspended for the first three games and Jalen Nailor nursing a hand injury. Thielen is a late round dart throw in PPR leagues whether he's a Panther or Vikings for Week 1, but going to Minnesota would give him a better chance to start hot. |

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers DT Derrick Harmon (knee) suffered a knee sprain during the preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers Thursday, Aug. 21, and is expected to return in a couple of weeks, according to sources.
Link to storyHouston Texans WR Jaylin Noel has been spending a majority of the time in the slot while occasionally moving to the outside.
Link to storyCarolina Panthers WR Hunter Renfrow and WR David Moore are likely competing for one spot on the 53-man roster, according to Grant Gordon of NFL.com. Renfrow played 26 snaps in the preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers, catching two passes for five yards. Moore played 29 snaps but failed to catch his only target.
