Free-agent WR Malik Cunningham (Ravens), free-agent WR Jerjuan Newton (Broncos) and free-agent WR Kendric Pryor (Bengals) worked out for the Detroit Lions Wednesday, Sept. 3.
Footballguys view: The Lions are just updating their emergency list here. Newton did some good things for the Broncos in training camp, and Cunningham is a converted quarterback with intriguing athleticism. |

Link to storyDetroit Lions WR Isaac TeSlaa (illness) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 3. The Lions did not hold a practice Wednesday, so this is an estimation.
Footballguys view: It's an illness, and there was no practice. Let's see what the talented rookie can do later in the week. Friday is the big day for any injury/illness situation like this. |
Detroit Lions OL Graham Glasgow (leg) is expected to be ready for the Week 1 game against the Green Bay Packers, head coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Link to storyDetroit Lions WR Isaac TeSlaa was not spotted at practice on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Footballguys view: There was no update on what is keeping TeSlaa out of practice. The next update we should get will come on Wednesday, when the Lions release their first injury report of the 2025 season. As The Sporting News noted, TeSlaa had an outstanding offseason that saw him shine in both training camp and the preseason. On Monday, head coach Dan Campbell revealed that TeSlaa will have a role on offense in Week 1, and he will also work on special teams. If TeSlaa doesn't suit up, Kalif Raymond will almost certainly see an increase in snaps on offense. |
Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff had the second-largest QBR decline last season when he was pressured compared with when he had a clean pocket.
Footballguys view: Goff's decline when under pressure has been a persistent knock on him throughout his career. But he did show signs of improving last year. Take the Week 6 blowout win in Dallas. Per Next Gen Stats, Goff completed six of his seven pass attempts while under pressure in that game. The six completions netted 178 yards and two touchdowns. A week later, against the Vikings, Goff experienced a season-high 51.7 percent of his dropbacks under pressure. He completed 10 of his 11 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns on those plays. Hopefully, he can build on those performances. |

The Detroit Lions have started discussions with WR Jameson Williams regarding a potential contract extension, according to general manager Brad Holmes.
Footballguys view: This tends to corroborate reports that Williams role was being expanded in camp. It's possible that he and Amon-Ra St. Brown (who had a strong camp himself according to all reports) are more of a 1A/1B this year, which doesn't necessarily mean that St. Brown is overvalued. The Lions also have huge athletic third round pick Isaac TeSlaa, who dazzled in the preseason, as their newly minted #3 receiver. |
The Detroit Lions and DE Aidan Hutchinson (leg) have started having discussions regarding a contract extension, according to general manager Brad Holmes.
Footballguys view: That contract Micah Parsons got from the Packers (record-setting extension worth $188 million over four years) is going to change the structure for a Lions deal with Hutchinson. As one of the best EDGE defenders in the league, Hutchinson is likely to get a huge payday. However, he's returning from a major injury, having suffered season-ending tibia and fibula fractures last fall (October). |
Free-agent WR Ronnie Bell (Lions), TE Zach Horton (Lions), WR Tom Kennedy (Lions), WR Jackson Meeks (Lions) and RB Jacob Saylors (Lions) were signed to the Detroit Lions practice squad Wednesday, Aug. 27.

Detroit Lions WR Tim Patrick was shipped to the Jacksonville Jaguars Wednesday, Aug. 27, in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2026.
Footballguys view: Patrick was acquired last year from the Broncos, and he had 394 yards and three touchdowns. The Lions feel good about their WR room behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. Rookie Isaac Teslaa has an opportunity to take over as the no.3 receiver, and we love his upside and potential red zone presence. In deeper leagues, Teslaa should pay off like a 'what the heck' flex. |

Detroit Lions OG Miles Frazier (knee), DT Alim McNeill (knee) and LB Malcolm Rodriguez (knee) were placed on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 26. The team also placed DE Josh Paschal (undisclosed) on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list. All four players will miss at least the first four games of the season.

Link to storyDetroit Lions RB Sione Vaki (undisclosed) left practice early Thursday, Aug. 21, because of an undisclosed injury.
Link to storyDetroit Lions DE Josh Paschal (undisclosed) will be out longer than expected, according to head coach Dan Campbell. The team hoped he would practice in September.
Link to storyDetroit Lions WR Isaac TeSlaa will be receiving more work with QB Jared Goff and the first-team offense moving forward after performing well with the second-team offense, according to head coach Dan Campbell.
Footballguys view: While it was assumed Tim Patrick would start the season as the team's No. 3 wide receiver, TeSlaa's rapid ascension is threatening the veteran. Also, according to The Sporting News, Patrick has struggled mightily this offseason and is also injured. "He certainly has a chance to have a role in our offense and has done a great job getting better every day," QB Jared Goff said. Still, as impressive as he's been, TeSlaa has "barely" gotten run with the starters in practice, according to Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit. Seems like that will change. |
Detroit Lions QB Kyle Allen has a slight lead over QB Hendon Hooker in the competition to serve as the team's No. 2 quarterback because Allen has played better in the team's last two preseason games, according to head coach Dan Campbell.
Footballguys view: This a terrible sign for Hooker's development heading into the third year of his career. He entered the league recovering from ACL surgery, but hasn't improved enough to two years to be better than a journeyman. His athleticism and ability to add value as a runner created some intrigue in superflex dynasty leagues, but that is waning now. He's not an essential hold. |

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff said he was impressed with the performance of the offense during the week of joint practices with the Miami Dolphins. 'I think things started to kind of jell a little bit certainly,' Goff said.
Footballguys view: So far, there's no indication that the Lions offense will experience a post-Ben Johnson hangover. The Dolphins were bad on both sides of the ball and have an entirely new starting secondary, so perhaps we shouldn't read too much into this. |

Detroit Lions TE Sam LaPorta (undisclosed) will 'miss a little bit of time,' according to head coach Dan Campbell, with an undisclosed injury.
Footballguys view: This no reason to be alarmed yet, but LaPorta got off to a slow start last year because of injuries. We'll be monitoring this and hoping that he's back on the field within a week at the most. If he's not, then he's not as attractive a pick as the #4 tight end off of the board. |

Detroit Lions WR Isaac TeSlaa registered two receptions for 46 yards in the Hall of Fame Game preseason loss against the Los Angeles Chargers Thursday, July 31, including catches of 22 and 24 yards.
Footballguys view: TeSlaa is probably going to have a small role and play mainly on special teams this year, but he has a high ceiling and the Lions love him. This was an auspicious start to his NFL career. |
