Houston Texans RB Dameon Pierce (quadriceps) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 14.
Footballguys view: Pierce was splitting first team reps with Nick Chubb and certainly could be improved in a running game that has more gap and less zone than former offensive coordinator Billy Slowik's, but this isn't a great sign after he spent weeks on the PUP list to open camp due to a quad injury. |
Free-agent FB Wesley Steiner (Raiders) signed with the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Aug. 14. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Link to storyDenver Broncos TE Nate Adkins (ankle) is expected to be sidelined for more than a month due to a tight rope procedure on his high-ankle sprain, according to comments made by a head coach Sean Payton on Thursday, Aug. 14.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he wants to see RB Kaleb Johnson play more instinctually in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 16. 'I want to see him trust himself more. I want to see him play more instinctually, trust his talents. That's reasonable to expect between the first experience and the second experience,' Tomlin said.
Footballguys view: The bottom line here is that Johnson isn't exactly performing like a rookie ready to take the league by storm. Jaylen Warren is looking like a better RB2/Flex pick, while Johnson is probably just a late round "wait and see" rookie bench stash. |
Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers RB Israel Abanikanda (hamstring) returned to practice on Thursday, Aug. 14.

New York Giants WR Malik Nabers (toe) will not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 14, but is working hard to return to the field, according to head coach Brian Daboll.
Footballguys view: This situation hasn't affected Nabers ADP, in part because of his significant upside in year two, but also because he has been dealing with this issue since he was in college. Still, if he can't practice soon, we might be moving him down in the first round mix out of worry that it will be a limiting factor on his production this season. |
Denver Broncos OT Garrett Bolles (undisclosed) reportedly suffered an undisclosed injury on Thursday, Aug. 14. According to Denver Sports' Will Petersen, Bolles appeared to be in 'significant pain' while trainers tended to him. He was later taken off the field in an ambulance.
Footballguys view: This was just an issue related to asthma and it sounds like Bolles is going to be ok. |

Link to storyKansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice's disciplinary hearing with the league is scheduled for Sept. 30.
Footballguys view: This means Rice will play in the first four games. He should still get a 4-6 game suspension, but he'll serve it later in the season. Of course, it's the NFL discipline process, so nothing is certain, but we would process as if Rice will miss games during the middle of the season instead of at the beginning. |

Free-agent CB CJ Henderson (Steelers) agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Aug. 14, pending a physical.
Link to storyCleveland Browns QB Dillon Gabriel (hamstring) is expected to be a full-go again at practice Thursday, Aug. 14.
Link to storyDetroit Lions TE Sam LaPorta (undisclosed) will 'miss a little bit of time,' according to head coach Dan Campbell, with an undisclosed injury.
Footballguys view: This no reason to be alarmed yet, but LaPorta got off to a slow start last year because of injuries. We'll be monitoring this and hoping that he's back on the field within a week at the most. If he's not, then he's not as attractive a pick as the #4 tight end off of the board. |

Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown (hamstring) did not suffer a setback and was held out of practice as a precaution Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Footballguys view: Brown missed multiple games with a hamstring issue last season. While this reassures us to some extent, we still want to see him back to an everyday full practice schedule before the season begins. He is going in the mid second after going in the first round of 2024 drafts. |

Chicago Bears WR Rome Odunze was 'all over the field' and 'in sync' with QB Caleb Williams during practice Wednesday, Aug. 13, according to Brendan Sugrue of BearsWire.
Footballguys view: Williams and the Bears pass offense is likely to have some growing pains in September. If there's one player who can still outperform ADP during that stretch, it's Odunze, whose price hasn't moved up that much even though it appears that he, not DJ Moore, will be the #1 receiver this season. |
Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa said he was frustrated with the way he and the offense performed during a joint practice with the Detroit Lions Wednesday, Aug. 13. 'I think today offensively was a very frustrating day in regards to what we wanted to do, what we said we wanted to do,' Tagovailoa said.

New Yor Jets RB Breece Hall will be utitlized in a way that allows him to 'really turn it up a notch' this season, according to head coach Aaron Glenn. 'He's the type of guy you can split out wide and let him run the route tree, because he can run it like a receiver,' Glenn said.
Footballguys view: If Hall is the team's #2 receiver, that could give him a backdoor out to providing value in PPR leagues at his third round price tag. This could also give Braelon Allen a path to more carries. Hall is still a risky pick at ADP, as it doesn't appear that he's going back to being the clear workhorse for the Jets. |
Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin (ankle) has reportedly reached an 'impasse' in negotiations on a contract extension, per ESPN's John Keim, who noted that when the wideout stood on the sideline during practice on Tuesday, Aug. 12, it was the first time he's been seen in a practice session during training camp. McLaurin remains on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, but he is effectively 'holding in' while looking for a new deal. McLaurin has already requested a trade.
Footballguys view: It's still too early to worry about McLaurin missing regular season games or having his conditioning affected by this hold-in, but it is looking more rational to break ties against him. If this extends into late August, then we might be considering taking receivers like Jameson Williams over McLaurin. These situations usually get worked out, but it sounds like there is a big gap between what McLaurin wants and what the Commanders are willing to give him. |
