The Texans have not updated the media about Joe Mixon's foot injury during the first three weeks of training camp. The lack of news has created a vacuum filled by speculation.
Footballguys view: Our injury expert Adam Hutchison writes: "Joe Mixon's foot injury has lingered without significant updates for over two weeks, and the silence is deafening. The original update per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport indicated only that Mixon would be reevaluated closer to the start of the season. The lack of clarity on the injury's specifics has fueled speculation about the severity and potential impact on his availability. Looking at historical data for NFL running backs, non-specific foot injuries typically result in a return within 0-3 weeks. However, if the injury is a midfoot sprain (a more serious condition with a longer recovery period) the timeline extends to 4-10 weeks. Based on the Texans' cautious messaging, the latter seems more likely, meaning Mixon is at risk of missing the first half of the season. Currently, Mixon holds an RB27 ranking (72nd overall) according to Footballguys Average Draft Position data. Given the uncertainty and potential for a lengthy recovery, that price tag appears steep. Drafting Mixon at his current ADP presents considerable risk, especially if he's unavailable for multiple early-season games. It would appear more prudent to target him as a depth option as a RB4/RB5. For comparison, players being selected in that range include Quinshon Judkins or Najee Harris (picks 116-128). Unless further positive news emerges, Mixon's situation warrants caution, allowing another manager to take on the associated uncertainty and roster risk." |
Arizona Cardinals DT Walter Nolen (calf) has not suffered any setback in his recovery and is on schedule, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon.
Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo said WR Jahan Dotson is a terrific route runner, and the team is confident in having him line up in any of the receiver spots during games.
Link to storyHouston Texans WR Christian Kirk has been the most consistent receiver other than WR Nico Collins during training camp, in the opinion of TexansWire's Cole Thompson.
Footballguys view: Kirk could have extra value in PPR leagues as a reliable short and intermediate range target with the Texans offensive line still under construction and maybe not ready to give CJ Stroud consistent time to throw downfield. He is underrated in PPR leagues and should be a target especially if you neglect wide receiver early in your draft and are valuing high floor over high ceiling on your wide receiver bench. |

Cleveland Browns RB Quinshon Judkins could still be suspended by the NFL even though he was not charged for his off-field incident in Florida, according to ProFootballTalk.com's Mike Florio.
Footballguys view: The NFL does their own investigations and has levied suspensions even when there were no charges filed by the authorities. Judkins is definitely the best talent in the Browns backfield, but it will likely be a committee in a low-scoring offense, and it's not clear how much the missed game will hold him back in his rookie year. |
Undrafted free-agent WR Isaiah Bond (Texas) said he has agreed to terms with the Cleveland Browns. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Footballguys view: Bond is a good enough talent on the field to have been selected on the second day of the draft, and not far off of his collegiate teammate Matthew Golden, who went to the Packers in the first round this year. Bond should be picked up in all but the shortest bench dynasty leagues, and he could be getting playing time in an underwhelming Browns wide receiver room by the end of the season. |
Chicago Bears QB Case Keenum (leg) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 15, because of a leg injury and is considered day-to-day.

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Travis Hunter (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 15, because of an upper body injury, according to head coach Liam Coen. Hunter's availability for the preseason game Sunday is uncertain.
Link to storyCincinnati Bengals WR Jermaine Burton (undisclosed) is working on the side during practice Friday, Aug. 15.
Link to storyBuffalo Bills QB Josh Allen's status remains uncertain for Sunday's preseason game against the Chicago Bears.'In Josh's case, (we are) really using practice to see where he's at and how he feels. I'm giving him some ownership as well, which I think is important. He knows by now what he needs to be ready,' according to head coach Sean McDermott.

Cincinnati Bengals TE Mike Gesicki (hamstring) is working on the side during practice Friday, Aug. 15.

Houston Texans RB Dameon Pierce (quadricep) is available for Saturday's preseason game against the Carolina Panthers after a lengthy battle with a strained quadricep. 'The expectation is just to be the best version of himself. He's a physical, violent runner on contact. I've had an appreciation for him since he came out of college,' offensive coordinator Nick Caley told Click2Houston.com.
Footballguys view: This is good news after Pierce's practice participation was up and down this week. It doesn't sound like he had a setback. Most observers say Nick Chubb doesn't have anything left, so Pierce could get a shot if Joe Mixon's ominous ankle/foot issue affects him into the regular season. Pierce struggled in Bobby Slowik's zone running game the last two years, but could be better if Caley has more gap/power runs that are better suited to his strengths as a runner. |
Free-agent TE Matt Sokol (Steelers) signed an undisclosed contract with the Buffalo Bills on Friday, Aug. 15.

Buffalo Bills OT Dion Dawkins (back) will be a full participant during practice Friday, Aug. 15, according to head coach Sean McDermott.
Link to storyWashington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin (ankle) needs to begin on-field work soon, according to offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. 'I think we're kind of at that point to where we need to start getting those guys, when they're available, out there and jelling to see where we are as an offense,' Kingsbury said.
Footballguys view: This is our first indication that the Commanders are getting impatient with McLaurin. If he doesn't get back on the practice field in the next two weeks, we should be prepared for him to at best start slow, and at worst miss regular season games. Deebo Samuel has had a good summer and could be a reliable fantasy option in September if McLaurin is out or not his usual self. |

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield played so well in the joint practice against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, Aug. 14, that he will not play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 16, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Carolina Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan and QB Bryce Young have demonstrated chemistry 'from the get-go,' according to David Newton of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: McMillan should become the clear #1 target for Bryce Young immediately. He could easily outproduce his price tag of WR27 and 55 overall. Xavier Legette, Jalen Coker, Adam Thielen. and Ja'Tavion Sanders give Young a varied and effective group of secondary targets. He's one of many quarterbacks going outside of the top 10-12 who could become reliable everyweek fantasy starters this season. |
Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff said he was impressed with the performance of the offense during the week of joint practices with the Miami Dolphins. 'I think things started to kind of jell a little bit certainly,' Goff said.
Footballguys view: So far, there's no indication that the Lions offense will experience a post-Ben Johnson hangover. The Dolphins were bad on both sides of the ball and have an entirely new starting secondary, so perhaps we shouldn't read too much into this. |

Colts WR Josh Downs left practice on Thursday complaining about pain in his hamstring.
Footballguys view: As good as Downs is, with a preseason hamstring injury and one of the worst quarterback situations in the league, it will be difficult to take him near ADP. This does make Michael Pittman and Tyler Warren more palatable at ADP, and opens a door for Adonai Mitchell to hit early as a late pick after having an outstanding camp that has observers buzzing about his potential. |
Green Bay Packers WR Sam Brown Jr. (ankle) was waived from the Reserve/Injured list Thursday, Aug. 14, after the two sides reached an injury settlement.
Link to storyBrowns RB Quinshon Judkins will not be charged after a domestic violence incident earlier this summer. He will likely join the team "in the near future" according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz
Footballguys view: This puts him back on our redraft radar, but it's hard to see him taking over the backfield any time soon after he missed all of camp. Judkins will be worth stashing in deep leagues, but this could be a lost season for him. Jerome Ford and Dylan Sampson are less attractive as late round picks with this news. |
Minnesota Vikings WR Jalen Nailor (hand) is dealing with a hand injury and is being evaluated, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell.

Houston Texans RB Dameon Pierce (quadriceps) did not participate in practice Thursday, Aug. 14.
Footballguys view: Pierce was splitting first team reps with Nick Chubb and certainly could be improved in a running game that has more gap and less zone than former offensive coordinator Billy Slowik's, but this isn't a great sign after he spent weeks on the PUP list to open camp due to a quad injury. |
Free-agent FB Wesley Steiner (Raiders) signed with the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Aug. 14. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
