Packers | Josh Jacobs easier to take down Sun Jul 19, 06:08 PM
Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs ranked 17th in yards after contact last season after ranking third in the category the previous season.
Footballguys view: Jacobs did play hurt in the second half of the season, but he has logged at least at 262 touches in each of his seven years in the NFL, so it's possible that he is starting the decline in effectiveness that comes to every running back. MarShawn Lloyd stayed healthy in the offseason for the first time since the team drafted him in the third round of the 2024 draft and he could have a weekly role that reduces Jacobs workload.

Houston Texans QB Davis Mills will serve as the primary backup to QB C.J. Stroud in 2026.
Footballguys view: Mills actually played the best football of his career when Stroud went down last year and helped turn the Texans season around. He is getting seven million dollars this year, fully guaranteed on a deal signed on the eve of the 2025 season and will be a free agent in 2027.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Tahj Brooks is expected to play mainly on special teams in 2026.
Footballguys view: The 2025 sixth round pick has failed to generate any buzz so far in his time with the Bengals. If injuries put the team in a position to have to depend on Brooks, it's not clear that they would trust him over a street free agent or in-season trade acquisition.
New York Giants WRs Calvin Austin III, Isaiah Hodgins and JuJu Smith-Schuster are battling to serve as backups to the top three starting WRs Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton and Darnell Mooney. Rookie draft pick WR Malachi Fields is also expected to be either third or fourth on the depth chart. WR Odell Beckham Jr. was brought in trying to rekindle his career, so he is also in the mix.

New York Giants WR Malachi Fields is considered a wild card to start opposite WR Malik Nabers, with veteran WR Darnell Mooney expected to be in the slot. WR Darius Slayton returns, and he is a downfield threat, but he also has had trouble with drops in the past.

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. being back with the team has generated a lot of buzz with the fans, but he is not expected to be the same kind of playmaker as he was during his first stint with the organization.

New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo (ankle) said Sunday, July 19 that he is fine after failing to land a backflip at Fanatics Fest on Saturday. He appeared to land awkwardly on his surgically-repaired right ankle during the appearance. 'I'm just going to keep being me, and if they want to say I'm brain-dead, and I don't have no brain, then who cares, f--- it,' he said.
Footballguys view: Skattebo's devil-may-care attitude is starting to worry fantasy players, but it is an essential part of his style of play. Unless we hear that he is limited at the start of camp, we won't let this viral video change his ranking.
Seattle Seahawks TEs Nick Kallerup and Eric Saubert are likely to return as run-blocking specialists, but neither player is guaranteed of a spot on the 53-man roster. FB Brady Russell, considered a hybrid fullback-tight end, could cost one of the players a job.
Link to storyEric Saubert player page
Seattle Seahawks WRs Irvin Charles, Emmanuel Henderson Jr., Cody White and Ricky White III are all candidates for the sixth receiver role, should the organization carry that many wideouts. WR Dareke Young (Raiders) filled that role as a gunner and special teams stalwart, but it's uncertain if the team will elect to go that route. Henderson might be the most proven special teams player for his good work at the University of Kansas in 2025.
Link to storySeattle Seahawks WR Jake Bobo is projected to be the fifth receiver on the 53-man roster, especially since the organization matched a two-year, $5.5 million offer sheet from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Seattle Seahawks WR Rashid Shaheed could be poised for a big step forward as a receiver in 2026 after showing growing rapport with QB Sam Darnold during spring workouts.
Footballguys view: Shaheed will be the #2 passing game option after Jaxon Smith-Njigba and should be a target in best ball leagues with his deep speed and big play ability. Shaheed would be the #1 beneficiary if defenses decide to make Darnold to throw to someone other than Smith-Njigba and devote double coverage to him more often this season.
Seattle Seahawks RB Jadarian Price is considered the favorite to serve as the starting tailback with RB Kenneth Walker III (Chiefs) moving on, and RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) still likely to miss the start of the season recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Footballguys view: Charbonnet won't be back until the second half of October at the earliest, and some time in November is probably a more realistic target date, so he's not a good pick in leagues with short benches. 2024 UDFA George Holani will be the third down back to open the season and he and or free agent signing Emanuel Wilson could share early down work with Price if the team doesn't think he is ready for a big role after serving as Arizona #3 overall pick Jeremiyah Love's backup at Notre Dame.

Seattle Seahawks FBs Robbie Ouzts and Brady Russell are considered locks to make the 53-man roster, and the position might even take on a larger role under new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury. Ouzts is expected to the primary fullback, with Russell working in a hybrid fullback-tight end role.

San Francisco 49ers TE Khalil Dinkins (undisclosed) was placed on the active/non-football injury (NFI) list upon reporting to training camp with the rookies Saturday, July 18. He remains eligible to come off of the NFI list to play in his rookie season. Dinkins is viewed as an in-line blocker when the team intends to use multiple tight ends, therefore he is viewed as a depth player initially.
Link to storySan Francisco 49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk could be used as a tight end in training camp if TE George Kittle (Achilles) is forced to the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, as insurance in case the starter isn't ready to begin the regular season. However, he is also considered an important part as a lead blocker, as the team looks to jump-start its rushing game.
Link to storyKyle Juszczyk player page
San Francisco 49ers TE Jake Tonges stepped up as a dependable option last season when TE George Kittle (Achilles) due to injuries. If Kittle opens training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, and remains there for the opening four games, Tonges would likely step in again as the starter.
Footballguys view: Tonges was fantasy relevant more often than not when Kittle missed time last year and the 49ers offense is one of the more dependable value creators in the NFL. It's reasonable to take Tonges in the last round if you take Kittle as your primary tight end this year, but we expect Kittle to beat most achilles return timelines and get back to full speed earlier than a typical player would given his approach to the game and level of play into his 30s.
Baltimore Ravens TE Tyler Pezza has an opportunity in training camp and the preseason to prove he can function as a hybrid receiving option. He was listed as a wide receiver at Brown University, but the team lists him as a 6-foot-3, 234-pound rookie tight end. Even if he proves to be a solid in-line blocker, he must be able to show an ability to play the slot, cover kicks, etc. He has a shot at a roster spot if the team elects to keep four tight ends.
Link to storyBaltimore Ravens WR Cortez Braham Jr. faces an uphill climb for a spot on the 53-man roster in training camp and the preseason due to a crowded receivers' room. At 6-foot-2 and 203 pounds, he is a big target, but with WRs Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman as starters, and WRs Ja'Kobi Lane and Elijah Sarratt drafted with expectations, Braham has tough odds to crack through. Holdover WRs Devontez Walker and LaJohntay Wester are also obstacles for the undrafted rookie.
Link to storyHouston Texans WR Nico Collins was limited in minicamp, working on the side, but he said Sunday, July 19, that it was not due to any kind of injury. The coaching staff and general manager were simply holding him back as a precaution, and trying to get him ready for training camp.
Footballguys view: We'll be watching to make sure Collins isn't limited to begin camp, but there's no reason that he would be assuming the Texans are being honest here. Tank Dell's comeback from a catastrophic 2024 leg injury will be the big camp story at wide receiver for Houston.

Seattle Seahawks WR Emmanuel Henderson Jr. (undisclosed) and DB Andre Fuller (undisclosed) were both recently placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list to begin training camp but were immediately removed after passing physicals.

Link to storyLas Vegas Raiders RB Mike Washington Jr. is expected to receive a decent amount of snaps this upcoming season even though RB Ashton Jeanty will receive a heavy workload, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Ryan McFadden.
Footballguys view: McFadden went on to note that Washington has the potential to grow into a second option in the backfield, as he has a nice blend of size and speed. At Arkansas, he rushed for 1,070 yards, with 606 yards coming after first contact, and eight touchdowns. Washington also totaled 28 catches for 226 yards and a touchdown. McFadden added that Washington had reps with the second team and occasionally with the first-team offense during the offseason program.
Las Vegas Raiders QB Kirk Cousins is the quarterback the Raiders hope to start for the entire season, but QB Fernando Mendoza can take over the starting job at some point if he picks things up quickly, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: Cousins is looking to bounce back after injuries and the rise of Michael Penix Jr. slowed his role in Atlanta for the last two years. The Raiders have an improved roster for this season, particularly on offense, with an upgraded offensive line and more depth in the backfield. The 37-year-old Cousins is expected to orchestrate that unit and be a mentor to Mendoza regardless of who gets the start in Week 1. But if the veteran holds the starting job all season, fantasy prospects like TE Brock Bowers could benefit.

Cleveland Browns RB Raheim Sanders may have a chance to push RB Dylan Sampson for the No. 2 running back job during training camp since Sampson did not take part in offseason workouts because of an undisclosed injury, in the opinion of the Akron Beacon Journal's Chris Easterling.
Footballguys view: Sanders is a power runner who can fight for tough yardage. He should get an opportunity to carve out a niche as a bruiser who could also help close out games. While much depends on Sampson's availability, if Sanders can provide some help with pass protection, he has a good chance to ensure he's active every week, even if his contributions might be limited.
Seattle Seahawks TE AJ Barner said he believes he can play much better than he did during the 2025 season and is looking to be one of the best tight ends in the NFL.
Footballguys view: Barner emerged as one of the Seahawks' top young offensive players last season, a tight end who is a threat in the passing game, especially in the red zone. But Barner, who's being drafted as TE24 despite last year's TE18 finish, isn't the only breakout candidate in his own position group; 2025 second-round pick Elijah Arroyo, could also play a more prominent role. With a former tight ends coach, Brian Fleury, taking over as offensive coordinator, there figures to be plenty of opportunities for tight ends to thrive in Seattle's offense.
Seattle Seahawks RB Kenny McIntosh (knee) is expected to be cleared to play at some point during the 2026 regular season.
Footballguys view: Like teammate Zach Charbonnet, McIntosh is rehabbing a torn ACL. It's not clear when either man will return to the field. Meanwhile, George Holani, who stepped up in place of Charbonnet during Seattle's playoff run, as well as free-agent signing Emanuel Wilson, will be competing with rookie Jadarian Price for reps.

Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman is coming off a disappointing 2025 season, but general manager Eric DeCosta said he expects Bateman to have a productive season in 2026 and is excited to see him in offensive coordinator Declan Doyle's system.
Footballguys view: Last summer, the Ravens signed Bateman to a three-year, $36.75 million contract extension. They did not get their money's worth, as Bateman struggled through an ankle injury and finished with a career-low 224 receiving yards. If the Ravens can get Bateman back to producing as he did in 2024, when he had career-highs of 756 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, that would bring back an explosive element in Baltimore's new offense. Given Bateman's WR93 ADP, fantasy investors aren't expecting the rebound.

RB Jadarian Price, who projects to have a very big role as a rookie. Price will obviously get a lot of carries after last year's leading rusher, Ken Walker III, left Seattle in free agency, and last year's second-leading rusher, Zach Charbonnet, suffered a torn ACL in the divisional round of the playoffs. But Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said Price will contribute more than just running the ball. "We're going to run wide zone, and he's going to run wide zone," Macdonald said. "We're going to run some gap scheme. He's going to run some of that too, and then the pass game he can come alive, too . . . Then, he's a great special teams player as well. The kick return stuff, we'll see how it shakes out in other phases, but he's going to come in and compete with the rest of the guys."
Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com notes, NFL teams rarely make their starting running back a kick returner, but Price was a big-play kickoff returner at Notre Dame, returning 22 kickoffs for 794 yards (an average of 36.1 yards per return) and three touchdowns. The Seahawks believe Price will make a lot of plays with the ball in his hands, and they want to give him every opportunity to have the ball in his hands. Seahawks rookies reported to camp on Friday. We'll be watching Price's progress closely.
New York Giants TE Isaiah Likely has 'already shown a connection' with QB Jaxson Dart, according to John Fennelly of GiantsWire.
Footballguys view: The Giants signed Likely to a three-year, $40 million free-agent deal this past March, which immediately thrust him to the top of their depth chart. Coaches feel that Likely can become a weapon as OC Matt Nagy's "U," or receiving tight end, setting up shop in the slot, and creating logistical mismatches for opposing defenses. He can also be used as a blocker, but the Giants have others who will do that. Likely is being drafted as TE12.
Philadelphia Eagles WR Makai Lemon (hamstring) said he is back at full strength ahead of training camp.
Footballguys view: As SBNation noted, with A.J. Brown in New England, Lemon has a clear path to playing the No. 2 role behind DeVonta Smith in an Eagles offense that will have more timing throws (and under-center snaps) for quarterback Jalen Hurts under new coordinator Sean Mannion. The 2026 first-rounder dealt with the hamstring issue throughout the Eagles' offseason program, but he'll work without restrictions once training camp opens. With a WR40 ADP, Lemon is a solid speculative play based on anticipated workload. But he'll need to earn his spot ahead of Dontayvion Wicks, Hollywood Brown, and Elijah Moore.
New York Giants WR Darnell Mooney is expected to be the starting slot receiver after WR Wan'Dale Robinson signed with the Tennessee Titans in free agency.
Footballguys view: Losing Wan'Dale Robinson, who emerged as one of the better slot receivers in the league, is tough, but New York replaced him with a very reliable slot option in Mooney. While he had a down year in Atlanta last season, Mooney has two seasons right around the 1,000-yard mark under his belt. With a WR82 ADP, Mooney is likely to be available on your waiver wire after the season opens.
Darnell Mooney player page
Seattle Seahawks WR Tory Horton (shin) is expected to be a participant once training camp starts. He missed offseason workouts because of his shin injury.
Footballguys view: Horton burst onto the scene early in the 2025 season by catching a touchdown in three of his first five games. In the final game of his rookie season, Horton caught four passes for 48 yards and two touchdowns. But Rashid Shaheed had a strong offseason, and the Seahawks gave him a new contract with the expectation that he'll produce more than he did after his arrival last year. According to SI.com, Seattle needs somebody to complement Jaxon Smith-Njigba, whose target share of nearly 36% last season was the highest of any player since 2012.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, former Browns center Ethan Pocic, who started 97 games in nine NFL seasons before tearing his Achilles last year, is signing a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens.
Footballguys view: Pocic is said to be healthy, and he will have a chance to replace former Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum, who signed with the Raiders.
New England Patriots QB Drake Maye is looking to build chemistry with WR A.J. Brown during training camp and hints 'there's already some there for me.'
Footballguys view: Brown didn't join the Patriots until June, so he didn't get much time to work with Maye before the end of the offseason program. So it's nice to learn that there was still enough time for the star wideout to make a positive impression on his new teammate. As PFT's Josh Alper noted, the Patriots were willing to wait to make the trade for Brown because they think he and Maye will take the offense beyond where it was with Stefon Diggs as their top receiver in 2025. Fantasy investors also believe. Brown has risen to WR8 in current ADP.

The Ravens will resume on-field work when training camp opens this month, and they could get some off-field business done before the start of the season as well. Wide receiver Zay Flowers is eligible for a contract extension, and General Manager Eric DeCosta was asked during an appearance on 105.7 The Fan whether he'd like to see that done before the start of the regular season. DeCosta said that he would and that there have been "good conversations" with Flowers' representatives about a deal.
Footballguys view: "Yeah, definitely," DeCosta said. "I love Zay, Zay wants to be here, we want Zay here . . . Certainly a work in progress, optimistic about it. Feel like at some point it will get done." The Ravens have exercised their fifth-year option on Flowers' rookie deal, so he is under contract through 2027 as the two sides try to work out a longer arrangement. Meanwhile, Footballguy Ryan Weisse notes that Flowers was a top-10 receiver last year, catching everything thrown his way. His role should further improve in the new offense and lead to an uptick in scoring opportunities.

Retired DL Aaron Donald is putting himself through football workouts to gauge his level of readiness for the 2026 season if he decides to return, according to Bleacher Report's James Palmer.
Footballguys view: The possibility of the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year playing again emerged after the Rams' blockbuster trade for Browns superstar Myles Garrett. If Donald does decide to play again, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport contends we shouldn't expect the 35-year-old to handle an every-down role: "If he does show up, it would probably even be toward the end of training camp and could even be into the season because he's not going to be playing 50 or 60 plays on defense." Even in a limited capacity, Donald being in the mix would be a nightmare for opposing offenses.

Free-agent OG Brady Christensen (Panthers) agreed to an undisclosed deal to return to the Carolina Panthers Friday, July 17.
Link to storyPittsburgh Steelers WR Michael Pittman Jr. is one of ten receivers to record at least 60 receptions in each of the past five seasons, and his 357 receptions over the last four seasons rank sixth in the NFL.
Footballguys view: The Steelers' wideouts were among the league's least productive units in 2025, combining for 136 receptions (ranking 31st), 1,716 receiving yards (29th), and 76 first downs (30th). Some added firepower could help. A six-year veteran, Pittman, who has 357 receptions over the past four seasons, is a significant WR2 upgrade from a season ago. The Steelers' last wide receiver with 60 receptions in a season was George Pickens in 2023. Pittman, who has finished no worse than a fantasy WR3 in his five NFL seasons, is being drafted as WR41.
Dallas Cowboys WR George Pickens tied the franchise's single season record with five games of 125-plus receiving yards in 2025, and his 10.4 yards per target ranked second in the NFL.
Footballguys view: While CeeDee Lamb attracts a lot of attention from defenses, Pickens broke out in 2025 with 93 catches, 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. His 10.4 yards per target ranked second in the NFL, and his 2.27 yards after first contact per possession topped all receivers with 100 or more targets. For his career, Pickens averages 16.0 yards per catch. He's currently being drafted as WR10, four spots behind Lamb.
Free-agent DE Patrick O'Connor has announced his retirement from professional football.
Link to storyBaltimore Ravens DT Nnamdi Madubuike (neck) is still making progress in his recovery, and the team will have more information about his injury in the next two weeks, according to general manager Eric DeCosta.
Footballguys view: A two-time Pro Bowler, Madubuike's absence had a ripple effect on Baltimore's defense last season. Only two teams had fewer sacks than the Ravens' 30. Madubuike's 13 sacks in 2023 were the most among all defensive tackles. As the team's official website suggested, his return would give Baltimore a fearsome defensive trio with Travis Jones returning and Calais Campbell coming back to Baltimore.

New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte was available in exchange for a fifth-round pick during the 2026 NFL Draft, and there is a good chance he is moved at some point, in the opinion of SI.com's Albert Breer.
Footballguys view: While Boutte sticking around after the Patriots acquired Romeo Doubs in free agency and A.J. Brown in a trade with the Eagles would give the team one of the best receiver rooms in the NFL, it would obviously limit Boutte's opportunities. He'd be the No. 3 option, at best. That's a bad situation for a player hoping to run up the stat sheet and maximize his value after fulfilling the final year of his rookie contract. The Commanders have been mentioned as a possible suitor as they hunt for a WR2. We'll be watching for more.

Miami Dolphins CB Storm Duck (knee) may return to the field soon, but it is not known if he will be ready for training camp.
Link to storyNew Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara agreed to a new deal Thursday, July 16, that includes a $6 million base salary and could be worth $8.5 million in incentives.
Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com notes, Kamara's previous contract had him slated to count $10.45 million against the salary cap in 2026. Kamara, 30, has spent his entire career with New Orleans since the club selected him in the third round of the 2017 draft. Last season, Kamara totaled 657 yards from scrimmage, finishing 2025 with 471 yards rushing with one touchdown, along with 33 receptions for 186 yards. The Saints added Travis Etienne at running back in free agency this offseason, which could diminish Kamara's role in the offense. But the veteran is now set to begin his 10th season with New Orleans on a new deal.

Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb's eight drops were tied for the second most in the NFL last season.
Footballguys view: Lamb is coming off his worst statistical season since his 2020 rookie campaign. He dealt with an early-season ankle issue and never quite took off, finishing with 1,077 yards and three touchdowns. Usually an after-the-catch standout, his 322 yards after the catch were down for his standards, too. But Lamb is still a game breaker. His 571 receptions are the fifth most in the NFL since 2020 and already the third most in Cowboys history, as he passed Dez Bryant last season. Based on his WR6 ADP, fantasy investors are in on a Lamb rebound.
CeeDee Lamb player page
Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown is the only player with at least 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdown catches in each of the past three seasons.
Footballguys view: He also became the fourth player in NFL history to top 100 receptions and 10 touchdown catches in three straight seasons. His WR3 total points finish (he was WR4 in points per game) was the fourth straight season he's been a top-ten fantasy wide receiver. Can he keep it going? St. Brown enjoyed a career-high target share in 2025 (31.6 percent), which helped him to 13 top-20 fantasy outings. With no major additions at wideout or tight end, expect Jared Goff to continue looking St. Brown's way consistently.
