Texans | Jaylin Noel poised for larger role in 2026 Tue Jul 7, 02:49 PM
Houston Texans WR Jaylin Noel could take on a larger role in the offense if WR Tank Dell (knee) is not back to 100%. He could find himself earning the team's slot receiver role, according to ESPN's Aaron Schatz.
Link to storyBuffalo Bills RB Ray Davis is 'an excellent backup' to James Cook III, according to ESPN's Aaron Schatz.
Link to storySeattle Seahawks WR Rashid Shaheed could emerge as the team's WR2 in 2026, according to ESPN's Seth Walder.
Link to storyPhiladelphia Eagles WR Hollywood Brown is expected to have 'a role' in the team's offense in 2026, according to ESPN's Aaron Schatz.
Footballguys view: Schatz acknowledges that Brown is not going to start, but the 2019 first-rounder will get opportunities in his first season with the Eagles. Last season, he had 49 catches in Kansas City for 587 yards and five touchdowns, and his average of 12.0 yards per reception was his highest since 2020. DeVonta Smith, rookie Makai Lemon, and Dontayvion Wicks are likely ahead of Brown on the depth chart, so consistent weekly production seems unlikely. Brown's ADP, he's WR107, reflects that.

Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman believes he's facing a "make or break" 2026 season, and his preparation for it has included work with former Bills star Stevie Johnson.
Footballguys view: Johnson reached out to Coleman after the end of a disappointing 2025 season. The 2024 second-round pick was benched at times for disciplinary reasons, and owner Terry Pegula noted his failure to develop after Sean McDermott's firing. Johnson said that Coleman has been "the opposite" of what he expected before meeting him and called the wideout "a masterful student" who is working on being more professional and on how to give Josh Allen exactly what he needs on a weekly basis. The Bills have expressed confidence in Coleman, and the team's offense would welcome that bet paying off.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield said early last month that he and the team were not close to an agreement on a new contract and that "we're not doing contract stuff" after the start of training camp. The Bucs report to camp on July 28, and there doesn't appear to be much change in where things stand for Mayfield. Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that "a lot of work needs to be done" before any agreement is reached with the quarterback.
Footballguys view: That is also reportedly the case for defensive tackle Vita Vea. Mayfield is in the third year of a three-year, $100 million deal, while Vea is set to make $17 million during the 2026 season. Garafolo adds that the Bucs feel "no rush" to wrap up negotiations with either player at the moment. That urgency could grow with the window before camp getting shorter, but it remains to be seen if all involved will find the middle ground needed to reach the finish line. Meanwhile, based on his QB20 ADP, fantasy investors are also lukewarm on Mayfield.

Receiver Brandon Aiyuk's path to free agency is simple. One, file a petition with the league for reinstatement from the reserve/left squad list. Two, once reinstated, show up for training camp. At that point, the 49ers most likely would release him. Aiyuk has made it clear that he won't be doing that. In his latest Instagram story -- which consists of a statement, not a video -- Aiyuk says this: "I will not be reinstating with them or ever doing any kind of business with them. I'm locked in and focused on my opportunity to return to the field this season! #RAISEHAIL"
Footballguys view: In a separate post, Aiyuk accused the 49ers of lying to the media and the fan base regarding the decision to void his guarantees and his intent to return to the team. Whatever the case, unless the 49ers release him from the reserve/left squad list (they have no incentive to do that), he'll continue to be in limbo. The thing he refuses to do is the one thing he needs to do in order to force the team's hand. "Either he doesn't realize this, or he doesn't care," PFT's Mike Florio writes. "Neither explanation will get him to the Commanders."

Pittsburgh Steelers OT Dylan Cook is expected to start at right tackle.
Link to storyNew England Patriots third-round pick TE Eli Raridon may be asked to block more after the season-ending injury to TE Julian Hill (knee).
Footballguys view: According to USA Today's Jordy McElroy, the Patriots hope that Raridon can contribute right out of the gate. Still, it's hard to count on that kind of progress from a first-year tight end, and the Patriots could explore bringing in a veteran tight end for training camp. From a fantasy perspective, Hunter Henry is locked in as a solid starter for the Patriots, but he turns 32 later this year. Raridon is a versatile option with the ability to serve as a solid receiving tight end, but he could be asked to do more of the latter early on.
Miami Dolphins OT Patrick Paul received a 66.2 overall grade and ranked 45th out of 89 qualified tackles in 2025, according to Pro Football Focus. This was an improvement from a 44.9 overall grade, which put him No. 79 out of 81 qualified tackles in 2024.
Link to storyArizona Cardinals WR Kendrick Bourne is expected to be the No. 3 receiver for the Cardinals this upcoming season.
Footballguys view: Bourne enters his 10th NFL season and his first with the Cardinals. He has 313 career receptions for 4,008 yards in stints with the 49ers and Patriots, and his best season was in 2021 in New England, when he caught 55 passes for 800 yards and five touchdowns. Now almost 31 years old, can he produce at the level the Cardinals need from their No. 3 receiver, although he will be No. 4 among pass catchers, as tight end Trey McBride is one of the top targets.

Free-agent CB Terrion Arnold (Lions) cleared waivers Monday, July 6, and is expected to start meeting with interested teams.
Link to storySan Francisco 49ers third-round draft choice DE Romello Height signed a four-year contract with the 49ers Monday, July 6, worth $7.29 million.
Link to storyCleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson's insurance kicked back more than $88 million in total salary-cap credits from 2024 through 2029 to the team, according to NFLPA records.
Footballguys view: While the trade for Watson and the five-year, $230 million, fully-guaranteed contract combine to create one of the single worst transactions in NFL history, the Browns' decision to purchase insurance (the premiums for which surely weren't cheap) resulted in the more than $88 million in refunds for the games Watson missed due to injury. Watson will compete with Shedeur Sanders for the starting job in training camp.

Free-agent CB Rasul Douglas (Dolphins) agreed to a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders Monday, July 6. The deal could be worth up to $3.8 million.
Footballguys view: Douglas, who turns 31 in August, appeared in 15 games for the Dolphins last year with 13 starts. He finished the year with two interceptions, 13 passes defensed, a forced fumble, and a sack. Entering his 10th season in the league, Douglas has appeared in 135 games with 93 starts for the Eagles, Panthers, Packers, Bills, and Dolphins. He's also spent time with the Raiders, Texans, and Cardinals. In all, he's tallied 21 interceptions, 92 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, and 3.0 sacks.

Tennessee Titans TE Daniel Bellinger said he has improved as a blocker but wants to improve after the catch. 'I want to be more dynamic after the catch,' Bellinger said. 'I want to get better at that and continue to grow in that area. ... (But) my job overall is to help us win. Whatever that takes, whatever they need me to do, I am here to do it.'
Footballguys view: Then the Titans signed the former Giants tight end to a three-year, $24 million deal, which is just outside the top-20 contracts for tight ends around the NFL. Unquestionably, the Titans are paying Bellinger like a starter, while Gunnar Helm was a Day 3 pick last year. Still, Helm's established chemistry with Ward, his production last year, and the team's willingness to let Chig Okonkwo move on in free agency are all positives. Helm is being drafted as TE27 in the 17th round. Bellinger does not currently have an ADP.
Cam Skattebo, who scored seven touchdowns in eight games as a rookie, is coming off a serious ankle injury, but coach John Harbaugh expressed little concern about his ability to pick up where he left off last year. "He's a top-tier back," Harbaugh said. "And he's planning on playing that way this year."
Footballguys view: Harbaugh added: "I thought he was just what you saw, a downhill runner, a tone-setter type runner. He's a tough tackle. That's what you look for. How many guys can make yards when they're not supposed to make yards on their own? He was that kind of guy at Arizona State and the exact same guy that I saw on tape last year." As PFT suggested, a strong run game was a consistent part of Harbaugh's Baltimore offenses. Skattebo should be front and center as the Giants try to establish the same in Harbaugh's first year in New York.
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers said he is enjoying the familiarity with head coach Mike McCarthy's offense. 'It's stuff that we used to run, but he's just called it something different now,' Rodgers said. 'It's just the next generations of the West Coast offense. From a real fundamental level, it's all about the quarterback's timing.'
Footballguys view: When McCarthy last ran an offense, it was led by quarterback Dak Prescott, and Dallas was 21st in scoring back in 2024. McCarthy's taking over a Pittsburgh offense that wasn't much better in 2025, ranking 16th in scoring -- its sixth consecutive season outside the top 10 in scoring. Adding to the positive vibe, Rodgers will have another option out wide this year after the Steelers acquired Michael Pittman JR. in a trade with the Colts. Pittman bolsters a WR corps led by DK Metcalf and infused with some youthful energy from second-round rookie Germie Bernard.

New England Patriots RB Terrell Jennings 'appears to have the early edge' in the battle to be the No. 3 running back behind RB Rhamondre Stevenson and RB TreVeyon Henderson.
Footballguys view: According to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss, the 6-foot, 220-pound Jennings appears to have that edge based on his work with the first-unit punt protection team. A 2024 undrafted free agent out of Florida A&M, he finished last season on injured reserve (concussion) after having been signed from the practice squad and appearing in seven games.
Houston Texans RB Woody Marks' role this season is expected to include more pass-catching duties and a new role on kickoff returns.
Footballguys view: Marks emerged as the starting running back as a rookie, replacing Nick Chubb as the primary centerpiece of an up-and-down running game. This year, Marks is adapting smoothly to a complementary role behind featured veteran David Montgomery after an offseason trade for the former Lion and Bear. "I think the key for Woody is understanding his role, which he does," RBs coach and assistant head coach Danny Barrett told KPRC 2. "He's going to get lots of opportunities." But those opportunities will come behind Montgomery. Marks is currently being drafted as RB42 in Round 11.
Dallas Cowboys RB Jaydon Blue admitted he 'wasn't really there' in his rookie season of 2025, but he is 'ready to go now'. The former University of Texas star enters the season in a battle to be the primary backup to RB Javonte Williams. 'I didn't start off like I should have,' Blue said. 'Maybe if it was not practicing the right way or just on a maturity level, I think I wasn't really there. But just learning from all the vets, having the offseason that I've had, I think I'm ready to go.'
Footballguys view: The Cowboys need much more from Blue in Year 2. He's the ideal complement to Williams, but his rookie season was a dud. Blue only had 129 yards and one touchdown on 38 carries in 2025. He didn't make his debut until Week 5. This year, the Cowboys believe Blue's ability as a pass catcher would make him the perfect match with Williams. What Blue could bring in the passing game would also add another element to what should again be one of the NFL's best offenses. The price is right. Blue is being drafted as RB70 outside Round 20.

Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts signed a big-money contract extension this offseason, and he views it as just the start of a new phase of his career. 'I think there's a lot more out there, a lot more to get, and a lot more things to keep grinding towards. It's cool to see,' Pitts said. He feels his best football is '100 percent' in the future.
Footballguys view: Pitts is still just 25 years old and theoretically has his best days ahead of him. After a fantastic rookie campaign, Pitts' next season was cut short after tearing his MCL and PCL. His production and play over the next two seasons were underwhelming, but he started to look like his old self again in 2025, posting the best fantasy season of his career. Pitts is being drafted as a middling TE1 this year, but has the upside to drastically outperform his draft-day cost.

Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels, and embattled San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk, apparently have had a beef on social media. Aiyuk wanted to play with his former Arizona State teammate, as he has had a very public contract dispute with his current team. It was thought he would eventually land in Washington, the only team to show any remote interest in him, but after Aiyuk insulted Daniels' mother, who is also his agent, that landing spot might no longer be in the cards. 'Enjoy retirement, pal,' Daniels posted on social media, tagging Aiyuk, before pulling it down later.
Footballguys view: This recent Aiyuk saga has been impossible to predict at nearly every step. His near-daily social media posts about being a Commander drew some attention from Jayden Daniels, but the engagement quickly escalated into a public altercation. The 49ers still possess Aiyuk's contract and have been eerily quiet about him publicly. The speculation about him going to Washington seemed to be entirely pushed by Aiyuk himself. George Kittle recently said of Aiyuk, "I watched him run over 22 miles an hour and stop on a dime. So, he's still got it, or at least that was a year, eight months ago." Still just 28, the off-field issues are beginning to outweigh what upside he could bring to the field. Aiyuk and Daniels are reported to have unfollowed each other on social media, likely closing the door on a trade to the Commanders.

Las Vegas Raiders WR Jack Bech, picked in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, could be a big part of the offense in 2026. He showed signs in the last few games of his rookie campaign, and head coach Klint Kubiak is looking to unlock and unleash Bech. He is putting the receiver in positions to make plays and be successful. He reportedly had a strong showing in organized team activities (OTAs), too.
Footballguys view: Bech is a bit older of a prospect, turning 25 this year, his second in the league. The hope when the Raiders drafted him was that he'd make an immediate impact, but he failed to do much in his rookie season. With a new coaching staff and a thin receiver room, where Jalen Nailor and Tre Tucker are his primary competition, Bech will have a chance to establish a large role this season. He's not someone worth heavily targeting in fantasy drafts right now, but he's a name to watch throughout camp.
Free-agent CB Kenny Moore II (Colts) is looking for a new home after the Indianapolis Colts moved on from him after the 2025 season. 'I want to talk about how I can be in a new place and serve,' Moore said. 'I want to serve not just the team, not just learning the plays, but I want to serve the community and continuing everything I was doing in Indy. Where I was in Indy, it was less me and more about the team. So, I want to be a team guy, and I want to win and hopefully we can do that together.'

New York Jets CB Nahshon Wright had a career-best five interceptions with an NFL-high eight total individual takeaways in 2025 with the Chicago Bears. He signed a one-year contract worth up to $5.5 million, looking to help improve a Jets secondary which finished 2025 with zero interceptions.
Link to storyNahshon Wright player page
Free-agent WR DeAndre Hopkins (Ravens) remains hopeful of joining a contender for the 2026 season, but he won't race to join an organization. 'I still got a lot ball left,' Hopkins said. 'I know in my position, I'm a utility guy. I'm a special situation kind of guy. I can go out there and beat anybody one on one at any time, but as of lately, I've been a third-down guy. I wasn't used in the red zone last year. But (on) third down, they're gonna put D-Hop in, they're gonna come to me. I don't think that'll change anytime soon.'
Footballguys view: Self-awareness is an important trait, and Hopkins has it. Now 34 years old, he isn't the every-down WR1 he once was. But he's got a bag of tricks he can reach into in a pinch, and he still has massive hands and tenacity to come down with contested catches. Coming off a season with just 330 yards, his fantasy-relevant days are likely behind him. But he can find a path to being a situational contributor in the right offense.

Free-agent WR Tyreek Hill (knee) may not be able to suit up at all during the 2026 season, in the opinion of Bleacher Report's James Palmer. Multiple NFL teams are monitoring the situation but Hill is still in the process of recovering from multiple torn knee ligaments and a dislocated knee.
Footballguys view: Going in what would be his age-32 season, Hill is firmly on the wrong side of the age curve. Last year's knee injury was one that younger players have taken years to recover from, making Hill's recovery at his advanced age even harder. Hill's game is largely predicated on his explosiveness, and last year's injury could take some time for him to regain that, if ever. There's hope that Hill can heal up and rejoin a team later in the year, but it's hard to recommend him as a late-round target. Even if he does return, it could be late in the year and with limited usage.

Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders is not expected to be traded, even if he loses the preseason competition for the Browns' starting quarterback job to QB Deshaun Watson, according to multiple league sources.
Footballguys view: There's no reason for the Browns to trade Sanders. He's on an incredibly team-friendly rookie deal, just four years and $4.6 million. At best, they can stumble into the quarterback of their future for cheap. At worst, that's still a good deal for a backup. Sanders generates a lot of media buzz, but his situation, at least in the short term, seems pretty straightforward.

New England Patriots RB Jam Miller should be 'in the thick of things' in the running back competition during training camp, according to Jordy McElroy of PatriotsWire.
Footballguys view: Miller was a productive running back at Alabama and followed that up with an impressive showing at the NFL Combine. Despite that, he fell to Round 7 in the draft. The Patriots have a long history of hitting on late-round picks and UDFAs, giving Miller a bit more appeal than he may have on other rosters. He'd need some good reports in training camp to hit the redraft radar, but he's absolutely worth a stash in dynasty leagues.

Indianapolis Colts WR Josh Downs has been the 'go-to target' for the first-team offense during offseason workouts, according to Stephen Holder of ESPN.com.
Footballguys view: With Michael Pittman in Pittsburgh and Alec Pierce recovering from ankle surgery, Downs currently sits atop the receiver depth chart. He does most of his damage outside the numbers while tight end Tyler Warren works across the middle of the field, making them good complementary players. When Pierce returns, his role as a valuable field-stretcher will open everything up. Downs has been steadily productive since he came into the league, but hasn't had a true breakout season. That could change in 2026, as Downs enters the season in the best situation of his career.

Las Vegas Raiders WR Jalen Nailor is expected to be at least the No. 2 wide receiver for the Raiders this upcoming season, in the opinion of Raiders Wire's Levi Damien.
Footballguys view: Damien contends Nailor is the only somewhat proven talent the Raiders added this offseason. According to Footballguy Matt Waldman, Nailor has the speed and ball skills to emerge as a bigger part of the passing game, but this will depend on his rapport with Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza. You'll likely see both this year, so it makes Nailor's targets more volatile than many in his ADP range. The former Viking is being drafted as WR63 in the 14th round.
Tennessee Titans WR Calvin Ridley was a limited participant during the offseason workouts and mandatory minicamp.
Footballguys view: In fact, Jim Wyatt of the team's official website characterized Ridley as "very limited" in offseason work. He was involved in just a few of the team period snaps as the training staff was careful with him. Wyatt does believe Ridley brings something different in terms of his speed, and his experience will help him. He's been great to Cam Ward and others from a leadership standpoint, and Wyatt knows the veteran is eager to bounce back after a disappointing 2025 season. Ridley is being drafted as WR69 this offseason, well behind rookie Carnell Tate (WR30) and Wan'Dale Robinson (WR47).

Seattle Seahawks RB George Holani received the bulk of the snaps with the first-team offense during the Seahawks' six full-squad practice sessions that were open to reporters, according to ESPN.com's Brady Henderson. Holani, Jadarian Price and Emanuel Wilson are expected to share playing time in the Seattle backfield while RB Zach Charbonnet (knee) recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Footballguys view: Holani is squarely in Seattle's backfield plans for 2026 as he looks to build off his strong finish to 2025, when he performed well as a fill-in for Charbonnet. According to Footballguy Matt Waldman, Holani has agility, contact balance, and solid speed for his size. He has worked his way from undrafted free-agent status to potential playing time if he can hold off Wilson, as Charbonnet's projected early-season return is too optimistic.

San Francisco 49ers WR Mike Evans was 'unstoppable in red zone drills' during OTAs, according to TE George Kittle.
Footballguys view: Kittle, who was integral in recruiting Evans to the Niners, told reporters that during one of the final OTAs, Evans caught "three to five" touchdowns, using his size and leaping ability to haul in score after score. This adds to a previous report indicating Evans is heading for an "alpha" role in his first season in San Francisco. It's not hard to argue that Evans' current WR27 ADP doesn't reflect that role. Assuming he's on the field all 17 games, we're paying for Evans' floor and totally ignoring the historically high ceiling.

Philadelphia Eagles TE Dallas Goedert averaged 39.4 receiving yards per game in 2025, his lowest average since his rookie season.
Footballguys view: While the yardage totals were down, Goedert was a force in the red zone in 2025, catching 11 TD passes, a new Eagles single-season tight end record. But given the diminished per-game production, it's fair to wonder if that regression will be a continuing trend. Working in his favor? Jalen Hurts has proven that he truly trusts throwing to three players -- A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Goedert. Brown is gone. That helps Goedert. It's also possible he'll be invigorated by Sean Mannion's new offensive scheme, which worked in Tucker Kraft's favor in Green Bay last year.

Philadelphia Eagles TE Eli Stowers has 'a long way to go' as a blocker and will have to be used in a specialized role as a rookie, according to Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com.
Footballguys view: Stowers was a high school quarterback who moved to tight end in college. The appeal is that he is an elite athlete who ran a 4.51 40, vertical leaped 45 1/2", and broad jumped 135". As Nick Sirianni said after the Eagles made the pick, Stowers can do things athletically that nobody else can. The downside is that Stowers is probably more of a big receiver at this point than he is a tight end. He has a long way to go as a blocker in the NFL. Given the long-term upside, Stowers' development is worth watching.
New York Giants TE Theo Johnson said the tight ends will be a big part of the passing game this upcoming season.
Footballguys view: Johnson is credited with 859 yards and six touchdowns over his first two seasons in New York. The Giants signed former Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely this offseason as well, and the veteran should quickly shine alongside Johnson in 2026. Both Johnson and Likely have proven to thrive as pass catchers in the past. But likely, brought on board by his former head coach, John Harbaugh, is the target of fantasy interest here.
Baltimore Ravens PK Tyler Loop could still face competition for the starting kicker job, according to head coach Jesse Minter. 'He'll continue to work over the summer,' Minter said. 'He'll continue to work in training camp. But we play in September, so I think that gives us a lot of time to be able to answer questions as they may come up.'
Footballguys view: Loop's missed 44-yard kick cost Baltimore the AFC North title in a 26-24 loss at Pittsburgh. The Ravens were eliminated from the playoffs for the first time since 2021, and John Harbaugh was fired as head coach after 18 seasons with the team. Loop's ability to bounce back -- and the Ravens' faith in him to do so -- is among the biggest storylines surrounding the team. This spring, Loop has been the only kicker on the Ravens' roster. We'll see if it stays that way when camp opens.

Link to storySan Francisco 49ers WR Mike Evans is considered an 'alpha type of player' for the team, according to offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak.
Footballguys view: Evans was a regular participant in the team's offseason program, running routes and catching passes from quarterback Brock Purdy. At the team's final open OTA, Evans was front and center. In 7-on-7 and team drills, he made at least four catches, working the sideline, the middle of the field, and even getting a deep ball down the sideline from Purdy. Assuming he's the alpha in this offense, Evans' WR27 ADP and Round 5 price tag are appealing, especially considering he's finished as WR2 or better in 11 of his 12 seasons (including six WR1 finishes).
