49ers | Brandon Aiyuk likely done in San Francisco Wed Jan 21, 03:59 PM
San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk is unlikely to play again for the team again, according to comments made by general manager John Lynch on Wednesday, Jan. 21.'I think it's safe to say he's played his last snap with the 49ers,' Lynch told reporters.

New England Patriots WR Mack Hollins (abdomen) will not return to practice on Wednesday, Jan. 21, according to head coach Mike Vrabel.
Footballguys view: Hollins landed on IR in late December with this injury. Vrabel said "I can't be certain" when asked if Hollins would be able to play in the AFC Championship Game. Without Hollins, the team will turn to Kayshon Boutte as their downfield threat.

Former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has interviewed for several head coach and offensive coordinator positions, but there is belief in some circles that he could be new Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh's offensive coordinator choice. It is believed Daboll would have autonomy in Tennessee working under a defensive-minded coach.
Link to storyFormer New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll interviewed for the offensive coordinator position with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, Jan. 20. He is reportedly the top target for the team's management, and there is also indications of internal support to bring someone in who would make significant changes to the offense.
Link to storyNew York Giants WR Malik Nabers (knee) continues his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. General manager Joe Schoen said Tuesday, Jan. 20 that the team expects Nabers to be ready for the start of training camp, but 'things can change.' The receiver said he'll be ready when his body is ready, and he didn't have a specific date in mind.
Link to storyFormer Miami Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel is expected to become the Los Angeles Chargers' offensive coordinator, barring a change of heart. According to the report, McDaniel has informed other teams that he is not interested in pursuing any other opportunities.
Link to storyFormer St. Louis Rams and Chicago Bears head coach Mike Martz said he would take the Cleveland Browns' head coaching job in a heartbeat. 'I would take the Cleveland job in a heartbeat,' Martz said. 'You need to change the culture...Kevin (Stefanski) started that. And I think I could solve that QB problem. I could resolve that issue on offense, in my mind.'
Footballguys view: Martz retired from coaching way back in 2012, although he did coach in the AAF in 2019. He is known for his work with the "Greatest Show on Turf" back in the Kurt Warner days with the Rams, but Martz did not have the same success after that. At age 63, it's interesting that he would throw his hat in the ring. Martz's statement about solving the QB problem is something whoever is hired needs to be the primary objective.
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) might need a foot procedure in the offseason, according to general manager Brandon Beane.
Footballguys view: The operation would not keep him out long enough to jeopardize his participation in OTAs. However, the Bills might choose to ease him into action during the offseason. After years of falling short with Sean McDermott, Allen is looking to make (and win) a Super Bowl for the first time in his career.

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (foot) missed the entire season with a medical condition that didn't improve, according to general manager Nick Caserio. 'He wasn't doing anything irresponsible. It was a freak thing,' Caserio said.
Footballguys view: Reports indicate Mixon got some treatment away from the facility, and that could lean the Texans to moving on from the veteran back. His future in Houston is unknown at this time, but Mixon is under contract with a $10.5 million cap hit and $2 million in dead money.

Link to storyCam Skattebo, who is recovering from a season-ending ankle injury, will be ready for the offseason program, GM Joe Schoen said. "He'll be fine," Schoen said about the 23-year-old running back. "He'll actually be prepared for the offseason program on April 6th. He should be good."
Footballguys view: Skattebo suffered a dislocated ankle in Week 8 when the Giants were on the road in Philadelphia. He underwent successful surgery that night and was discharged the next day. In his limited action this past season, Skattebo ran the ball 101 times for 410 yards (4.1 avg.) and five touchdowns. He also played a significant role in the passing game, catching 24 passes for 207 yards and another two scores.
Nabers has made enough progress in his rehab that Giants General Manager Joe Schoen expressed optimism that the 2024 Pro Bowler will be ready for training camp in late July.
Footballguys view: Nabers underwent surgery to repair the torn ACL in his right knee on Oct. 28. He was on a cane on the sideline while watching the season finale against the Cowboys on Jan. 4. Nabers made 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie and had 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns in 2025 before his season-ending injury in Week 4. We'll be watching this one closely.

Green Bay Packers CB Trevon Diggs was released on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Footballguys view: Diggs was claimed off waivers in late December after the Cowboys released him. But he did not make an impact for the club. While Diggs played 33 defensive snaps in the regular-season finale against Minnesota -- during which the Packers rested their starters -- he was on the field for just one snap in the postseason loss to Chicago. Though he led the league with 11 interceptions in 2021, Diggs has played just 22 games since the 2022 season. We'll be watching to see what the future might hold.

Link to storyLos Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter interviewed for the head coaching vacancy of the Las Vegas Raiders for a second time on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Footballguys view: The Raiders have interviewed 14 candidates thus far, although two of them -- Kevin Stefanski and Jeff Hafley -- have been hired by other teams. Hafley was on the list of second interviews with Las Vegas, but his agreement with Miami leaves Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero as the only other reported candidate set to meet with the team again. The Ravens and Browns have also scheduled second interviews with Minter, who seems likely to land a top job this cycle. Stay tuned.
Free agent wide receivers Jared Wayne (Houston) and Josh Kelly (Houston) signed future/reserve contracts on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Tennessee Titans offensive line coach Bill Callahan was hired in the same capacity by the Atlanta Falcons Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Footballguys view: Callahan comes to the Falcons with a coaching resume that spans four decades through the college and professional ranks. Callahan joined the league in 1995 as offensive line coach for the Eagles. From there, he spent time with the then-Oakland Raiders and worked his way up from offensive line coach to offensive coordinator to head coach by 2002. When newly-hired Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski created his Cleveland Browns staff in 2020, Callahan joined as offensive line coach. He quickly became a vital cog and someone Stefanski leaned on. Now, he'll reprise that role in Atlanta.
Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching vacancy Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Footballguys view: Brady has been a popular candidate in this coaching cycle, as he has also talked with the Falcons, Raiders, and Ravens. He is set to have a second interview with Baltimore. We'll continue monitoring.
Minnesota Vikings WR Jordan Addison will not face charges and now will prepare for the filing of a civil claim arising from the alleged wrongful arrest.
Footballguys view: Addison, 23, was arrested on a misdemeanor trespassing charge last Monday at 3:46 a.m. He was later released on bond. A positive outcome is great, as this remains an important offseason for Addison. The Vikings will have to decide whether or not to pick up the former first-round pick's fifth-year option. Addison is emerging from a down season, in which he caught a career-low 42 passes for 610 yards (he also had six drops). We'll be watching for more.

Former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott highlighted roster weaknesses in a meeting with general manager Brandon Beane and team owner Terry Pegula five weeks ago, but sources said neither Beane nor Pegula was pleased with McDermott's assessment. There are unnamed players that held McDermott in high regard that are skeptical of the decision to fire McDermott.
Footballguys view: Despite the common outside view that Josh Allen's supporting cast was what has mainly held the Bills back in their Super Bowl quest, WGRZ's Vic Carucci contends Beane managed to convince Pegula that coaching was the primary culprit. Carucci went on to suggest that how he pulled that off is hard to understand, considering McDermott might very well have done the best work of his career in leading the Bills to a 12-5 record with glaring weaknesses at wide receiver and on the defensive line. Whatever the case, the search for McDermott's replacement is on.
Minnesota Vikings passing game coordinator/DBs coach Daronte Jones has been requested for an interview for the Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator opening.
Footballguys view: Jeff Hafley was the team's coordinator, but he agreed to become the Dolphins' next head coach on Monday. Jones has been the Vikings' defensive backs coach/pass game coordinator since 2023. Jones has already interviewed with the Cowboys and Jets this month. The Giants also requested an interview with him. As Profootballtalk.com suggests, a move up the ladder in Minnesota isn't out of the question as Brian Flores remains in the mix for head coaching jobs, and all of the interest in Jones suggests that there's a good chance he'll be running a defense somewhere next season.
Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill (knee) is likely to be released and designated a post-June 1 cut, according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, who writes it remains 'unclear' when he'll be able to return after dislocating his knee. Louis-Jacques adds that this would be the 'most fiscally reasonable solution.'
Footballguys view: New GM Jon-Eric Sullivan will have to decide on the futures of several players, including Hill. With Sullivan stressing the importance of team culture, it's hard to imagine a scenario in which Hill is part of this franchise going forward. The real question is what teams might be interested in the veteran speedster. We'll be watching for more.

San Francisco 49ers WR Jauan Jennings is a free-agent-to-be, and he deferred to his agent when questioned about whether he would play under the projected franchise tag of $28 million for 2026.
Footballguys view: According to USA Today's Kyle Madson, the 49ers aren't sure to tag Jennings given the inflated one-year valuation, so he's likely to test the unrestricted free agent market for the first time in his career. With 1,618 yards and 15 touchdowns on 122 receptions over the last two years, it's understandable Jennings may want to look elsewhere to see if there's a sizable payday for him. However, ESPN's Nick Wagoner also noted Jennings "got a bit emotional" while discussing his time with the 49ers, so it's tough to rule out a return if the market isn't to his liking.

The Titans are expected to hire San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as the team's head coach, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo reported late Monday night, per sources.
Footballguys view: Saleh, 46, is back at the helm after his second stint as the 49ers' defensive coordinator. He previously spent three-plus seasons as the New York Jets head coach (2021-24). Saleh's coaching record as a head coach was 20-36. Before taking the head coaching job in New York, Saleh spent four seasons as the 49ers' DC from 2017 to 2020. Saleh's return in the Bay Area saw season-ending injuries to Nick Bosa (torn ACL) and Fred Warner (ankle), but he still guided San Francisco to the 13th-ranked scoring defense this past campaign.
Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is not expected to return on his 'current deal,' in the opinion of ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, who writes that trading Tagovailoa 'will be tricky' based on his level of play and money remaining on his contract. Louis-Jacques adds that the Dolphins could 'sweeten' any trade package for their quarterback by 'including a draft pick.'
Footballguys view: Louis-Jacques explained that cutting Tagovailoa would result in a $99 million dead cap hit, whether it's all at once this season or spread across the next two seasons; trading him will be tricky considering his play over the past two seasons and the money he's owed. After an injury-shortened 2024 season, Tagovailoa led the NFL in interceptions at the time of his benching this season with a career-high 15, while sporting a career-low 37.4 QBR. This is a situation fantasy investors will want to monitor.

Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams was hurried a league-leading 94 times during the 2025 regular season and also led the league by being blitzed 174 times during the season.
Footballguys view: The Bears experienced a significant turnaround in Ben Johnson's first season as coach. They went from five wins in 2024 to 11 in 2025 en route to the NFC North title. The Bears won their first playoff game in 15 seasons when they beat the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round on Jan. 10. Williams was a big part of it, but there are areas in which both the QB and his team must improve. In particular, Williams said he plans to address his accuracy and footwork during the offseason. We'll be following his progress all offseason.
Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams recorded a league-high 12 drops during the 2025 regular season.
Footballguys view: Yes, this was an issue, and Williams has room for improvement. As previously noted, there was still plenty to like here. Williams ranked third in the NFL with 23 receptions of 20-plus yards in 2025, and his 17.2 yards per reception ranked third among players who appeared in at least 10 games. He also posted career bests of 65 catches and 1,117 receiving yards en route to a WR21 finish. Williams will work on improving his strength this offseason. He'll likely work on his receiving as well.
Updating a previous report. Denver Broncos RB J.K. Dobbins (foot) had his 21-day practice window opened Monday, Jan. 19.
Footballguys view: Dobbins needs to be activated off the injured reserve to play this week and there is no guarantee that he will be ready for Sunday. Stay tuned.
