Giants | Malik Nabers out Tuesday Tue Aug 12, 10:32 AM
New York Giants WR Malik Nabers (shoulder) is out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Footballguys view: Nabers has been trying to manage a toe issue that Daboll said dates back to his time in college. But SNY.tv's Connor Hughes contends that Nabers not practicing is very noteworthy. The second-year receiver was practicing fully early in camp, left the Aug. 6 session early, saying it was part of the plan, and that he was fine. Nabers has not worked since. The Giants' top receiver is also not likely to be available for Saturday night's exhibition game against the Jets. We'll continue to monitor this one closely. |
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love (thumb) will undergo surgery to repair a ligament issue on his left, non-throwing hand. Head coach Matt LaFleur said the hope is Love is back at practice next week.
Footballguys view: The good news is obviously that the injury is to his left hand. While it may affect his ability to handle a snap under center when he returns, Love seems to have avoided a potentially nagging issue that could have persisted throughout the season. GM Brian Gutekunst didn't express much concern regarding Love's outlook, stating Love "will be ready for Week 1, and that's the most important thing." In the meantime, backup Malik Willis will lead the group of quarterbacks that includes former Penn State standout Sean Clifford and Canadian university product Taylor Elgersma. |

Buffalo Bills RB James Cook is expected to practice Tuesday, Aug. 12, as head coach Sean McDermott said 'things have changed' in Cook's contract dispute.
Footballguys view: Nine days after he began a deliberate, business-related boycott of practice while he seeks a new contract, the reason for Cook's decision to get back to work isn't clear. One possible reason? A deal might be near. Speaking to the media before practice, head coach Sean McDermott said that "things have changed" between the two parties. A fair deal that reasonably compensates Cook, further positions the Bills to get back to the Super Bowl, and solidifies the running back's fantasy potential is the best-case outcome for all involved. We'll be watching for more. |
Green Bay Packers WR Mecole Hardman's performance during the team's preseason opener against the New York Jets was a 'disaster,' in the opinion of The Athletic's Matt Schneidman, who noted that Hardman made two bad plays on special teams, including a lost fumble, and dropped his only target as a wideout. Schneidman added that Hardman 'seemed penciled into the 53-man roster' before his poor showing against the Jets, which could open the door for another wideout.

Buffalo Bills WR Curtis Samuel (hamstring) could be in jeopardy of not making the 53-man roster, in the opinion of Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic, who notes that this is the second consecutive training camp that Samuel has suffered a multi-week injury. Cutting Samuel now would be the same as cutting him in the offseason, and though Buscaglia believes Samuel's play late last season still could be enough to land on the initial roster, he isn't 'ruling out' the possibility that Samuel will be released.

Seattle Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III (foot) did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 11. Head coach Mike Macdonald said the team has a plan for Walker.
Footballguys view: Walker missed time with foot soreness earlier in camp, but rest is part of the team's desire to manage his workload heading into September. "We have a plan for Ken, and we're sticking to the plan," Walker told ESPN.com's Brady Henderson. Neither Walker nor Zach Charbonnet played in Seattle's first preseason game. Fantasy investors shouldn't expect to see much of Walker until Week 1, which adds some uncertainty for a player being drafted as RB16 in Round 4. Nonetheless, that matches his Footballguys projection, and we love his role in this offense -- if Walker is healthy. |
Los Angeles Chargers WR Tre Harris has seen his first training camp 'marred by inconsistency,' according to ESPN's Kris Rhim, who writes that Harris had two dropped balls in practice on Friday, Aug. 9, but also had a contested catch for a touchdown. Rhim indicated that Harris' play in camp has 'fluctuated between exemplary and poor.'
Footballguys view: Harris had 15 drops in college at Ole Miss, including five in eight games as a senior. He'll need to rectify that to earn playing time as a rookie this season. With Keenan Allen returning to the team, Harris will have to work to earn a contributing role off the bench. Footballguy Matt Waldman suggests Harris will likely generate enough big plays to get fans and fantasy analysts excited and calling for him ahead of Quentin Johnston -- even if the consistency doesn't merit it. |
Washington Commanders WR Deebo Samuel has taken advantage of the absences of WR Terry McLaurin, who is not practicing while seeking a new contract or trade, and WR Noah Brown (knee), who is recovering from a knee injury, to 'develop a growing rapport' with QB Jayden Daniels, according to ESPN's John Keim.
Footballguys view: Keim went on to note the chemistry has been on display since camp started when Samuel and Daniels connected on a deep ball. Daniels loves throwing the slot fade to Samuel, who has found success with it in practice sessions. Daniels said the connection can get even better. "Deebo is starting to understand how I see things," Daniels said. Samuel is being drafted as WR37. Landing him outside your top three at the position is a reasonable gamble on potential upside. |

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans RB Tyjae Spears (ankle) is expected to miss a few weeks due to the high ankle sprain he suffered in the preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, head coach Brian Callahan said Sunday, Aug. 10. He isn't expected to return this preseason, but the team is hopeful he'll be ready for Week 1.
Footballguys view: It's possible that Spears is limited, or even out for Week 1 against the Broncos. Tony Pollard has some extra early season value, Spears drops down on the upside backup running back late round target list. Spears reputation as an injury-prone player isn't changing any time soon. |

New England Patriots WR Ja'Lynn Polk (shoulder) apparently aggravated his right shoulder in the preseason game against the Washington Commanders. He had a labral repair during the offseason. Head coach Mike Vrabel said Sunday, Aug. 10 that Polk will not travel to Minnesota for joint practice this week.
Footballguys view: Last year's second round pick has been rumored as near or even on the wrong side of the cut line. This aggravation could seal his fate as injured reserve bound, which would allow the team to keep him without using a roster spot. Either way, Polk probably isn't worth carrying in most dynasty leagues. |
New Orleans Saints QB Tyler Shough completed 15-of-22 passes for 165 yards, one touchdown and one interception in his preseason debut against the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday, Aug. 10.
Footballguys view: Shough probably outplayed Spencer Rattler, but overall this wasn't an uplifting performance by the quarterbacks. The Saints main offensive pieces still carry a big discount because the second round rookie Shough, or last year's fifth round pick Spencer Rattler will open the season against the Cardinals. |
Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones will start the second preseason game Saturday, Aug. 16 against the Green Bay Packers, head coach Shane Steichen said Sunday, Aug. 10.

Chicago Bears RB Kyle Monangai ran six times for a team-best 30 yards in the preseason opener Sunday, Aug. 10 against the Miami Dolphins, and he was not targeted in the passing game.
Footballguys view: Monangai appears to have moved ahead of Roschon Johnson as the #2 back. Johnson is battling a foot injury, but there were already signs that the seventh round rookie would be the backup to D'Andre Swift before the injury. The team did bring Jamaal Williams in for a visit, but he left without a contract and is now visiting Miami, who just lost Alexander Mattison for the season. Monangai should be on your late round target list. |
Free-agent QB Trevor Siemian (Titans) signed with the Tennessee Titans Monday, Aug. 11. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also waived QB Tim Boyle.
