Dolphins | Julius Brents out for season Mon Nov 17, 02:21 PM
Miami Dolphins CB Julius Brents (foot) is scheduled to undergo season-ending foot surgery but is expected to be ready for the 2026 season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Link to storyLos Angeles Rams WR Xavier Smith (concussion) is going through the concussion protocol after suffering a concussion during the Week 11 game, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: McVay confirms what we already knew. Smith suffered the concussion in the first half of Sunday's contest. Smith must pass through the five steps required to be cleared to play in Week 12. If he misses time, Konata Mumpfield could see an increase in workload on offense and on special teams.
Cleveland Browns QB Dillon Gabriel (concussion) is going through the concussion protocol, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Footballguys view: Stefanski told reporters on Sunday that Gabriel will start if he can clear the protocol before this week's game against the Raiders. Quarterbacks returning the week after suffering concussions happens, but it's not unusual for them to miss multiple games. We'll be watching Gabriel's progress. Shedeur Sanders will start if Gabriel isn't cleared.
Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young (ankle) will have an update on his injured ankle later in the week, according to head coach Dave Canales.
Footballguys view: Canales said he would tell us more on Thursday, but as The Athletic's Joe Person suggested, this is standard operating procedure with Canales during Monday pressers. Young was dealing with the injury for most of Sunday's win over the Falcons, but he did not miss an offensive snap and completed 31-of-45 passes for a career-high 448 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. The Panthers play the 49ers in Week 12.

Davis Mills has quarterbacked the Texans to two straight wins, and it looks like there's a good chance he'll get an opportunity to make it three in a row. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters on Monday that C.J. Stroud remains in the concussion protocol.
Footballguys view: As ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning, Stroud's chances of being cleared in time to play this week are hampered by the fact that Houston will be hosting the Bills on Thursday night this week. We'll follow, but fantasy investors should plan on seeing Mills, who was 26-of-41 for 274 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 19-16 win over the Titans.

Following up on the previous item . . . Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr is headed to Injured Reserve after aggravating a bone bruise and knee sprain from earlier in the season, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. Additionally, there has been damage to the ACL, which could mean a full reconstruction.
Footballguys view: Veteran Kirk Cousins replaced Penix on Sunday in the eventual 30-27 overtime loss at home and will take over as the Falcons' starting quarterback with Penix sidelined. Cousins was 6-of-14 for 48 yards after replacing Penix. The Falcons play the Saints on Sunday. Remember, Cousins will be without Drake London, who suffered a PCL sprain on Sunday.

Packers star RB Josh Jacobs' knee is structurally sound, tests showed today, and no surgery is needed, sources tell NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: The team will re-evaluate Jacobs towards the end of the week. But at this point, Jacobs hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Vikings. We'll be following up throughout the week.

New York Jets QB Tyrod Taylor was named the starting quarterback for Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens over QB Justin Fields.
Footballguys view: The move comes on the heels of a 27-14 loss to the Patriots last Thursday that dropped the Jets to 2-8 on the season. Fields threw for just 116 yards on 15-of-26 passing. It marked the fourth time in the last five games that he finished with less than 200 passing yards and a completion rate below 60%. For weeks, head coach Aaron Glenn has resisted all inquiries into the possibility of a quarterback change, saying that not divulging his plans conveys a competitive advantage. Turns out there was no competitive advantage.

Philadelphia Eagles RT Lane Johnson (foot) will miss four to six weeks after suffering a Lisfranc injury in Week 11.
Footballguys view: Profootballtalk.com is reporting that Johnson is likely heading to injured reserve. If that's the case, he will miss at least four games. The Eagles' next four opponents are the Cowboys, Bears, Chargers, and Raiders. Fred Johnson took over at right tackle against Detroit, and he is now in line to start any or all of those games.
Falcons WR Drake London suffered a PCL sprain and is out this week and potentially more, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Footballguys view: With Michael Penix Jr. out with what could be a season-ending knee injury and London out with a sprain, Atlanta is significantly short-handed. KhaDarel Hodge has been London's primary backup in recent weeks when London has missed time. We'll follow up as further details come to light. The Saints play the Saints in Week 12.
Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury during Sunday's loss to the Panthers, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. Penix will be seeking a second opinion, but it is not encouraging.
Footballguys view: Penix suffered season-ending ACL tears to his left knee in both 2018 and 2020 in college. He also missed a game this season in Week 8 after sustaining a bone bruise to that same knee in Week 7. And now this latest injury could sideline him for the rest of the 2025 season. We'll follow up as further details come to light. Kirk Cousins will fill in as needed. The Falcons play the Saints this week.
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren (ankle) said he could have returned after suffering an ankle injury in Week 11.
Footballguys view: As noted in a previous item, Warren downplayed the issue post game. The veteran back noted he could have returned to the game, but the team held him out with an eye on the big picture. "I could have (returned), but it was part of being smart. We got a lot of games ahead of us, so they're looking out for me," Warren said, per Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com. Based on that quote, it's clear Warren has a good chance to play against the Bears in Week 12. If head coach Mike Tomlin doesn't offer a specific update before then, we will know more about Warren when the Steelers put out their first injury report on Wednesday.
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers (wrist) will undergo further tests on his left wrist Monday, Nov. 17, to determine whether he can play in Week 12.
Footballguys view: According to Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio, Rodgers wanted to keep playing Sunday despite the injury. He was prevented from doing so. Today's examination will show the extent of the injury (a minor fracture is reportedly feared) and the potential duration of any absence. Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the key factors will be whether the injury could end up getting worse and whether Rodgers can sufficiently grip the ball. Rapoport characterizes the possibility of Rodgers facing the Bears on Sunday as "50-50." We'll follow up as needed.

Link to storySteelers safety Jalen Ramsey claims that he hit Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase because Chase spat on him. Chase denies it. "I didn't spit on anybody," Chase told reporters after the game.
Footballguys view: There is video that looks very much like Chase did spit on Ramsey. Whether he did or didn't spit will be determined by the video. And decided by the league. If the league believes Chase spat on Ramsey, Chase is looking at a potential suspension for next Sunday's game at New England. As with most suspensions, a decision will be made quickly. Likely by the end of the day today, which would give Chase time to appeal the punishment.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Sean Tucker carried the ball 19 times for 106 yards and a pair of touchdowns during the team's Week 11 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Tucker also added two receptions, 34 yards, and a score.
Footballguys view: As Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke notes, Rachaad White remained the clear passing-down back, but Tucker had the hot hand on the ground, leading Tampa Bay to use him more often in the run game. The Buccaneers have a rough matchup against the Rams in Week 12, and Bucky Irving could be back in the lineup by Week 13. Nonetheless, Tucker should be rostered with Jahnke pointing out the Bucs have a top-five schedule for running backs during the fantasy playoffs, so there is a slight chance Tucker could be a league winner.
