Bengals | Smaller Workload for Perine Than Before?    Thu May 1, 03:18 PM

Paul Dehner Jr, from The Athletic, reports Cincinnati Bengals RB Samaje Perine could play a reduced role compared to what he did in his prior stint with the team.

Footballguys view: This is now Perine's third time with the Bengals, with the latest being from 2020-2022. After a couple of seasons with the Broncos and Chiefs, Perine is back to serve as a backup option behind starter Chase Brown. If he's playing a smaller role than previously, Perine could catch 25-30 passes this year with the Bengals when Brown needs a breather.

Raiders | Collin Johnson headed to Sin City    Thu May 1, 01:40 PM

Free-agent WR Collin Johnson (Bears) signed an undisclosed contract with the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Coming out of Texas, Johnson was a fifth-round pick for the Jaguars in the 2020 NFL draft, and he's bounced around the league since then. In 2022, Johnson tore his Achilles' and missed the entire season for the Giants. He's spent the last two years with the Bears as a reserve receiver. The Raiders spent draft capital at the receiver position this year, so Johnson will be hard pressed to make the final roster.

Cardinals | Head coach excited for Marvin Harrison Jr. in 2025    Thu May 1, 01:28 PM

Arizona Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. added a 'little bit of muscle mass' and has 'really (gone) to work' on some of the areas of his game he wanted to improve this offseason, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon.'I'm not going to speak truth into the universe, but just wait until this guy plays this year,' Gannon told Mad Dog Sports Radio.

Footballguys view: Harrison could take a big leap in production this year. The 2024 no.4 overall pick had a solid rookie season with 885 yards and eight touchdowns. Harrison has the skill set to be utilized in all sorts of different ways. As a rookie, Harrison ran plenty of vertical routes. This year, we should see more of a variety to get him involved early and often. We like him as a WR2 with upside in 2025.

Titans | Elic Ayomanor to learn split end duties first    Thu May 1, 01:09 PM

Tennessee Titans fourth-round draft choice WR Elic Ayomanor (Stanford) will 'start his work at X receiver but has the flexibility to do more,' according to head coach Brian Callahan.

Footballguys view: Ayomanor has smooth speed and the ability to run good routes. His game is somewhat polished already, and he should be able to improve with pro coaching. We like his hands, concentration, and ability to box out smaller defenders. He will serve as a reserve player this year for the Titans, but the upside is there for him to be a starter (likely at X receiver) someday.

Eagles | Two Eagles options nixed    Thu May 1, 10:43 AM

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jahan Dotson and OG Kenyon Green didn't have their fifth-year option exercised Thursday, May 1.

Footballguys view: Dotson was a first-round pick of the Washington Commanders back in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Eagles picked him up last year via trade in August, and he started six games for his new team. Dotson caught just 19 passes for 216 yards with zero touchdowns, and he'll continue to be a speed option for the Eagles in 2025. With no fifth-year option, Doton will be an unrestricted free agent in 2026.

Giants | Abdul Carter also received prank call    Thu May 1, 09:47 AM

New York Giants DE Abdul Carter also received a prank phone call during the 2025 NFL Draft around the time the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to the No. 2 pick. The caller said the Jaguars were taking him, but Carter knew it was fraudulent, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Footballguys view: That makes about four players who were pranked during the draft. The Shedeur Sanders prank call got the most attention, but Carter and others had to go through the same thing. We'll see if the NFL cracks down on these other callers just like they did on the Sanders prankster.

Bills | Elijah Moore agrees to deal    Wed Apr 30, 05:30 PM

Free-agent WR Elijah Moore (Browns) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills Wednesday, April 30, worth as much as $5 million, according to a source.

Footballguys view: Moore, 25, caught a career-high 61 passes for 538 yards and one touchdown last season for the Cleveland Browns. Moore can play multiple receiver spots and joins a group in Buffalo that includes Joshua Palmer and Laviska Shenault Jr., who were added in free agency; 2024 second-round pick Keon Coleman; Khalil Shakir, who was signed to a four-year contract extension this offseason; and last year's free agent addition, Curtis Samuel. he Bills also picked Kaden Prather out of Maryland in the seventh round Saturday, their only selection at wide receiver in the draft. A second-round pick (No. 34) of the Jets in the 2021 NFL draft, Moore has caught 200 passes for 2,162 yards and nine touchdowns. He'll have a battle to be a fantasy-relevant asset, but Buffalo's offense is potent enough to make it worth watching for more.

Saints | Tyler Shough in line to start?    Wed Apr 30, 04:36 PM

New Orleans Saints QB Tyler Shough seems to be the leading candidate to be the starting quarterback in 2025 if QB Derek Carr (shoulder) is not able to play, in the opinion of SaintsWire's Luke Loffredo.

Footballguys view: The Saints are still waiting for further clarity on the shoulder injury that Carr is dealing with, and word on that will help shape the timeline for when they might think about seeing if Shough's extended time in college pays off in the pros. But as things stand now, the Footballguys stance, as stated by staffer Jason Wood, views Shough as the most likely quarterback other than Tennesse's Cam Ward to start more than 50 percent of his team's games this year.

Texans | Woody Marks could earn solid role    Wed Apr 30, 02:58 PM

Houston Texans RB Woody Marks could have a chance to earn the No. 2 running back role at some point during the 2025 season, in the opinion of TexansWire's Cole Thompson.

Footballguys view: As Thompson noted, it's the Joe Mixon show for another year, but Marks might have a bigger role than most Day 3 picks. He's a receiving threat that shines when asked to win in the flats on third down. That aligns with the newcomer's Fantasy Outlook in the Footballguys Rookie Draft Guide Version 3.0. Marks could earn an immediate role with sneaky value as a pass-catcher, especially with Damien Pierce, J.J. Taylor, and Dare Ogunbowale all becoming free agents after the season.

Buccaneers | Chris Godwin does not need to rush back    Wed Apr 30, 01:21 PM

Tampa Bay WR Chris Godwin (ankle) will not need to rush back to the field since the team added WR Emeka Egbuka to the roster, according to general manager Jason Licht.

Footballguys view: After the Buccaneers took Egbuka in the first round last week, Licht said that the selection had nothing to do with how Godwin's rehab from a dislocated ankle is going. The Bucs were looking to the future with the Egbuka pick, but Licht noted that's also the case for Godwin. He said, "Three years in the NFL is long-term," in reference to Godwin's new contract, and that timeline is all the more reason not to overemphasize how quickly he is back in action. That makes sense. But it's still a situation to monitor closely as OTAs and other offseason work play out.

Falcons | ATL fined after prank call saga    Wed Apr 30, 11:43 AM

Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was fined $100,000, and the team was fined $250,000 for the fraudulent phone call made to QB Shedeur Sanders at the NFL Draft.

Footballguys view: Ulbrich's 21-year-old son admitted to the prank call and apologized in an Instagram post Sunday. The Falcons said in a statement Sunday that Jax Ulbrich wrote down the number from his father's open iPad while visiting his parents' home "to later conduct a prank call." The NFL said the fines were for "failing to prevent the disclosure of confidential information distributed to the club in advance of the NFL Draft." The Falcons noted that "the Ulbrich family is working with the organization to participate in community service initiatives in relation to last week's matter." Sanders, who had been widely expected to be selected in the first round before the NFL draft started, had to wait until Day 3 of the draft for his slide to end when the Cleveland Browns picked him in the fifth round. In a conference call with Cleveland-area reporters after the Browns drafted him, Sanders said he wasn't bothered by the prank.

Falcons | Drake London's option exercised    Wed Apr 30, 11:39 AM

Atlanta Falcons WR Drake London had his fifth-year option exercised Wednesday, April 30.

Footballguys view: London was drafted No. 8 overall by the Falcons in 2022 and has been their top receiver since then. The fifth-year option will go into effect in 2026. London is due around $6.8 million against the team's salary cap in 2025, per Roster Management System, and the option year will be worth in the neighborhood of $16.8 million. Last season, London was fourth in the league in receiving yards (1,271) and tied for ninth in receptions (100) and touchdown catches (9). It was his first time eclipsing the 1,000-yard and 100-reception marks. London opens the year as WR11 on the Footballguys 2025 Draft Projections.

Panthers | Hunter Renfrow dealt with illness     Wed Apr 30, 11:05 AM

Carolina Panthers WR Hunter Renfrow (illness) dealt with challenges after a diagnosis of the autoimmune condition ulcerative colitis, which had left him with weight loss, fatigue, and high fevers. 'It kicked my butt pretty good,' Renfrow said. 'Last year, I fluctuated in weight; I went down to 150 pounds. I had like seven straight days of 103-degree fevers. It's tough to play when you're not feeling great.' Renfrow said he's back up to around 187 pounds.

Footballguys view: Renfrow has shown what he's capable of as a front-line slot receiver. He caught 103 passes for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns for the Raiders in 2021, a breakout after a pair of solidly productive years (105 catches in 2019 and 2020 combined). In five seasons, he has 269 catches for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns. In Carolina, he joins a receiving corps with a pair of first-round picks in Xavier Legette and Tetairoa McMillan, veteran Adam Thielen, and second-year man Jalen Coker.

Lions | DET was enamored with Isaac TeSlaa    Wed Apr 30, 09:39 AM

Detroit Lions third-round pick WR Isaac TeSlaa was general manager Brad Holmes' favorite receiver in the draft. 'I do love all of them,' Holmes said. 'I'll give you this, though: The pick that was probably the most questioned, I would say, was (TeSlaa). I can say that he was my favorite wide receiver in this draft. I'm not saying he was the best wide receiver in the draft. But favorite wide receiver in the draft? Yes.'

Footballguys view: TeSlaa was a surprise pick in the middle of Day 2 (the Lions traded up from 102 to land him at 70). As noted in the Footballguys Rookie Draft Guide Version 3.0, "Considering his elite athleticism and quarterback background, he is precisely the type of player the Lions have built around in their highly successful overhaul." The top of the Lions' passing attack is built around Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and Jameson Williams. In an elite offense and with the size and athleticism to become a red-zone threat, TeSlaa has a "better in best ball" profile. He'll be undervalued in many leagues.

Bears | Chicago tried hard to land TreVeyon Henderson    Wed Apr 30, 12:50 AM

New England Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson (Ohio State) was selected at No. 38 overall on Friday, April 25. However, the Chicago Bears reportedly tried trading up for the No. 35, No. 36 and No. 37 picks and were turned down.

Footballguys view: In a deep class that included star power at the top, the Bears and general manager Ryan Poles did not address the position until they selected Kyle Monangai out of Rutgers with pick No. 233 in the seventh round. But as we see now, it wasn't for a lack of effort. Meanwhile, USA Today's Brendan Sugrue suggests there are still questions surrounding the running back position with D'Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson, and Monangai, and it remains to be seen what the Bears will do next to address them. J.K. Dobbins and Nick Chubb are unsigned free agents, though the Chargers placed an unrestricted tender on Dobbins, which complicates things for teams interested in adding him.

Broncos | Sean Payton gives Pat Bryant favorable comp    Wed Apr 30, 12:03 AM

Denver Broncos third-round draft choice WR Pat Bryant has 'so many things about his game that reminded me of (Michael) Thomas,' head coach Sean Payton told reporters on Saturday, April 26.'We try to find comps. There were so many things about his game that reminded me of (Michael) Thomas. With respect to Mike who became ... I mean, holy cow. You don't ever want to put pressure on a rookie like that, we're just talking about traits. But really explosive off the line of scrimmage, he's very competitive, very tough,' Payton said.

Footballguys view: As USA Today suggests, that's quite a glowing endorsement, and a player who certainly sounds worthy of a third-round pick. Thomas was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, and he earned two first-team All-Pro selections and three Pro Bowl nods with the New Orleans Saints. He twice led the NFL in receptions during his time in Payton's offense. Still, with Courtland Sutton already commanding the majority of targets and offseason additions Evan Engram and RJ Harvey in the mix, Bryant might have a hard time getting targets.
