Eagles | Declan Doyle removes name from PHI job Mon Jan 26, 11:09 AM
Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle removed his name from the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator opening.
Footballguys view: Doyle returns to Chicago for his second season as the team's offensive coordinator. He was brought in upon Ben Johnson's hiring in 2025, having previously served as the tight ends coach for the Broncos. Though Johnson called the plays for the Bears, Doyle's presence helped elevate the offense and keep the players sharp on their assignments. As SBNation suggests, in his second year as offensive coordinator, Doyle will be tasked with maintaining that level of continuity on the Bears' offense, while also managing the development of such young players as Caleb Williams, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and Colston Loveland.
Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski withdrew his name from consideration from the Cleveland Browns head coaching search.
Footballguys view: Udinski is still pursuing the Buffalo Bills' job, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday. Udinski, who interviewed with the Bills on Sunday, has also agreed to a new contract with the Jaguars that includes a raise for the 2026 season if he is not hired as the Bills' head coach. Meanwhile, the remaining Cleveland candidates are Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, Commanders run game coordinator Anthony Lynn, and former Ravens OC Todd Monken. We'll continue to monitor.
Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles for the same spot in their organization.
Footballguys view: The Eagles, who continue their search for Kevin Patullo's replacement, had an interest in Mike McDaniel, and with the former Dolphins coach expected to join the Chargers, they'll settle for the next best thing. Smith joined the Miami Dolphins as offensive coordinator in 2022. In 2024, Smith helped the offense drastically improve, and Miami was one of only four teams with three players with 700-plus receiving yards and the only team with three players with 75-plus receptions. Smith was voted as the NFL's top offensive coordinator in a 2023 NFLPA player survey.
Indianapolis Colts WR Alec Pierce will be a free agent this offseason, and ESPN's Aaron Schatz believes the Denver Broncos will be the ones to sign him, citing Pierce's size, physicality, and ability to make plays down the field making him an ideal fit for QB Bo Nix and head coach Sean Payton.
Footballguys view: Pierce, who will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, narrowly topped 1,000 yards for the first time as a pro with a 132-yard effort against the Texans in Week 18. He's averaged 22.3 yards per reception in 2024 and 21.3 yards per catch in 2025, leading the league both times. Pierce is a walking explosive-play threat, which makes him a very valuable player. His destination when free agency opens in March will be of great interest to fantasy managers.
Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford plans to return for his 18th NFL season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who reports that Stafford has told people close to him that he believes he has 'good football left.'
Footballguys view: Immediately after the Rams' 31-27 loss to the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game, Stafford wouldn't discuss next season. "I can't generalize six months of my life 10 minutes after a loss," he said. But a return makes sense. Stafford, a finalist for this year's NFL MVP award, is coming off the best season of his career, finishing the regular season as the odds-on favorite to be named MVP after leading the league in passing yards (4,707) and passing touchdowns (46). We'll watch for more on this, but it could take some time for an official answer.

Los Angeles Rams S Kamren Curl is set to be a free agent this offseason, and the chances of the team re-signing him are 'slim,' per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, who notes that the team recently signed fellow S Quentin Lake to a large extension and are unlikely to have multiple sizable contracts at that position.

University of Oklahoma TE Jaren Kanak took some reps at fullback during practice for the East-West Shrine Bowl Saturday, Jan. 25, and he has 'real potential' as an H-back in the NFL, according to Joe Clark of Steelers Depot.

Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold completed 25 of his 36 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns and gained nine rushing yards on three carries in a 31-27 win over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game. RB Kenneth Walker III rushed 19 times for 62 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 49 yards, and RB George Holani served as the backup, rushing three times for four yards and gaining 27 yards on three receptions. Jaxon Smith-Njigba was Darnold's top target, catching 10 of his 12 targets for 153 yards and a touchdown. WR Cooper Kupp chipped in four receptions for 36 yards and a score, and WR Rashid Shaheed's lone catch went for 51 yards. TE AJ Barner finished with two catches for 13 yards, and WR Jake Bobo hauled in a 17-yard touchdown. LB Ernest Jones led the way for the defense, finishing with a team-high 8 tackles, including six solo stops. DL DeMarcus Lawrence recorded Seattle's only sack, and CB Riq Woolen broke up a pair of passes.
Footballguys view: Though the Seahawks' vaunted defense was solid, it was the play of Darnold and Smith-Njigba that carried the day. It was fitting that Darnold starred in this one after leading Seattle to a 14-3 record and the NFC's No. 1 seed during the regular season. Still, there were questions about his big-game ability. But now, Darnold has Seattle in the biggest game of all in a season that did not begin with Super Bowl expectations. The Seahawks will face the New England Patriots in a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX.

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford completed 22 of his 35 passes for 374 yards and three touchdowns and gained 16 rushing yards on two carries in a 31-27 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. RB Blake Corum gained a team-high 55 rushing yards on nine carries and caught three passes for 24 yards, and RB Kyren Williams rushed 10 times for 39 yards and had two receptions for 22 yards and a touchdown. WR Puka Nacua was open early and often, catching nine passes for 165 yards and a touchdown, and WR Davante Adams hauled in four passes for 89 yards and a score. TE Colby Parkinson finished with 62 receiving yards on three receptions, and TE Tyler Higbee caught his only target for 12 yards. LB Omar Speights recorded a team-high 11 tackles, including seven solo stops, and S Kamren Kinchens, DE Jared Verse and DL Braden Fiske all recorded a sack.
Footballguys view: The Rams outgained the Seahawks 479 to 396, but Seattle was 4-of-5 in the red zone and had the only takeaway. The Rams were only 1-for-8 on third down. Stafford, who is a finalist for NFL MVP, threw a 9-yard touchdown to Williams, a 2-yarder to Davante Adams, and a 34-yarder to Nacua, who was named a finalist for the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award. Beyond that, even if head coach Sean McVay loses an assistant or two in the current hiring cycle, the Rams are well-positioned for continued success in 2026.

Link to storySeattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold fumbled 11 times during the 2025 regular season, which was tied for the most in the NFL.
Footballguys view: Darnold committed 20 total turnovers, consisting of 14 interceptions and 6 fumbles lost during the regular season. Despite this high turnover count -- leading the league in that category -- he led Seattle to the playoffs with a 67.7 percent completion rate. Darnold finished the regular season as the QB14 in total points. But his 14.3 points per game ranked 26th in the league.

Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward fumbled 11 times during the 2025 regular season, which was tied for the most in the NFL.
Footballguys view: Fumbles were an issue, but Ward improved in other areas down the stretch. He threw only six touchdown passes through the first 12 games, but threw two touchdowns per game over his final four outings (he was hurt early in Week 18). He was intercepted just once over that span after getting picked off six times in the first 12 games. Still, the Titans' offense averaged just 16.7 points per game, good for 30th in the NFL, and the team's next offensive coordinator will be tasked with getting more out of Ward and that unit.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield fumbled 11 times during the 2025 regular season, which was tied for the most in the NFL.
Footballguys view: In the first half of the 2025 season in 2025, Mayfield looked like an MVP candidate. But he was hampered by left and right shoulder injuries and a knee injury down the stretch. The Bucs' playcalling also took a step backward in 2025, with Josh Grizzard not able to fill the void left by Liam Coen. The hope is that new OC Zach Robinson, who was serving as passing game coordinator and QB coach for the Rams when Mayfield arrived in Los Angeles late in the 2022 season -- when Mayfield had instant success -- will change things for the better.

Denver Broncos QB Jarrett Stidham went 17-for-31 for 133 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game. Stidham also rushed for 23 yards on four carries but did lose a fumble. RB RJ Harvey rushed for 37 yards on 13 carries and also caught four passes for 22 yards on six targets. RB Jaleel McLaughlin rushed for 11 yards on four carries and caught one pass for two yards on two targets. WR Marvin Mims caught four passes for 62 yards on six targets. TE Evan Engram caught two passes for 19 yards on three targets, WR Courtland Sutton caught three passes for 17 yards and one touchdown on five targets, WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey caught one pass for five yards on three targets and WR Pat Bryant (hamstring) caught one pass for two yards on one target before leaving because of a hamstring injury. LB Alex Singleton recorded four solo tackles and 12 total tackles during the game, while DT D.J. Jones recorded two solo tackles, six total tackles and one and a half sacks.
Footballguys view: Stidham completed a 52-yard bomb to Marvin Mims on the game's opening drive and finished the drive with a touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton, but had only one good drive for the rest of the game. That drive ended with a failed fourth and one play inside the Patriots 20, and Wil Lutz missed a 54-yard field goal near the end of the first half and a 46-yard attempt to tie the game was blocked by Leonard Taylor III. Denver's offense just needed to be a little bit better, but their defense was championship quality.

New England Patriots QB Drake Maye went 10-for-21 for 86 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game. Maye also rushed for 65 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries. RB Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for 71 yards on 25 carries, while RB TreVeyon Henderson rushed for five yards on three carries. WR Mack Hollins caught two passes for 51 yards on two targets, WR Stefon Diggs caught five passes for 17 yards on six targets, TE Hunter Henry caught two passes for 12 yards on three targets and WR Kayshon Boutte caught one pass for six yards on six targets.
Footballguys view: The Broncos defense was up to the task, as the only touchdown they allowed was off of a Jarrett Stidham turnover deep in his own territory. Drake Maye was more dangerous as a runner than a passer, and the Broncos shut down the predictable Patriots running game. The Patriots still advanced thanks to their defense and a second half field goal drive that broke a 7-7 tie. New England will have two weeks to prepare as a Super Bowl underdog after pulling off a stunning turnaround under first year head coach Mike Vrabel.

Las Vegas Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty averaged only 1.6 yards before contact during the 2025 regular season.
Footballguys view: Hopefully the Raiders firing Pete Carroll and with him, his son Brendan Carroll, who was not successful as offensive line coach, will improve the situation for Jeanty. Las Vegas is also expected to take Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza #1 overall, which could be an instant improvement over their quarterback play in recent years.
