Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers are on a 'collision course for franchise tag' which would pay him at least $47 million in 2027, in the opinion of ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Footballguys view: The past three Bucs who received the tag -- Antoine Winfield Jr., Chris Godwin Jr., and Shaquil Barrett -- all got long-term deals eventually. Mayfield knows this is a possibility and isn't afraid of it. Fowler notes the tag could also be a way for the Bucs to facilitate a trade to a QB-needy team, acquiring draft capital to select the quarterback of the future. Until then, the Bucs know Mayfield has been at his best when slighted, highly motivated, and riled up. It's worked for them in the past, and Mayfield definitely has something to prove this year.

Green Bay Packers DL Micah Parsons (knee) is reportedly back to running and is hoping to start making cuts on his knee in the next six weeks, according to Parsons on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Footballguys view: It remains unclear when Parsons will be back on the field. The Packers know his long-term value to the team is greater than what a few early-season games are worth, so everyone should be on board with Parsons getting as much time as needed to feel like he can be the defensive force that the Packers need him to be this season. We'll continue to watch for more.

Chicago Bears OT Darnell Wright and the Bears reportedly agree to a four-year contract extension worth $116 million, with $93 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Footballguys view: Wright, a first-round pick in 2023, was an AP second-team All-Pro in 2025. He's started 49 games over his first three seasons. As Profootballtalk.com noted, the Bears had exercised Wright's fifth-year option in the spring, which had put him under contract through 2027. Now the team has a key pillar locked in for several years to come.
Jacksonville Jaguars OL Trystan Colon was placed on the reserve/retired list on Tuesday, Aug. 4. He played six seasons in the NFL.
Link to storyAtlanta Falcons LB Jalon Walker was carted off from practice following an apparent injury. No further details were made available.
Footballguys view: According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Steve Wyche, Walker is feared to have torn his ACL. He will have an MRI to confirm the injury from practice today, which drew an emotional reaction from his team.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks will not play in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, Aug. 6. Brooks has not played for the Panthers since December of 2024.
Footballguys view: The Panthers selected Brooks in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. But a pair of ACL tears, one while at the University of Texas and the other during his rookie season in Carolina, has limited him to just three games since. Brooks, however, has received rave reviews throughout what's been his first full NFL offseason -- and seems encouraged by his progress. Fantasy investors are encouraged, too. Brooks' ADP has risen to RB37, which is up considerably over the last month.

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Beck will start for the team in the Hall of Fame game on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Footballguys view: In announcing that Beck will get the start against the Panthers, head coach Mike LaFleur did not lay out the plan for the rest of the game for the quarterback spot, but it seems unlikely that Jacoby Brissett or Gardner Minshew would get tabbed for any work with the third-round pick starting the game. Kedon Slovis is the fourth quarterback on the roster in Arizona and will likely see playing time after Beck's night in Canton comes to an end.

Two-time Pro Bowl receiver Zay Flowers has agreed with the Baltimore Ravens on a four-year, $140 million extension that includes $108 million guaranteed, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The $35 million average annual value ties him with Minnesota's Justin Jefferson as the fourth-highest-paid wide receiver.
Footballguys view: Flowers, who will turn 26 in September, carried Baltimore's passing attack last season. His 1,211 yards receiving accounted for 36.9% of the Ravens' total receiving yards, which was the second-highest share by any player in 2025 behind Seattle's Jaxon Smith-Njigba (44.1%), who is the NFL's highest-paid receiver at $42.15 million per year. Last season, he set career highs with 86 catches; no other Ravens wide receiver had more than 25 catches or 400 yards in 2025. Flowers, who finished 2025 as WR7, is currently being drafted as WR15.

New York Jets TE Kenyon Sadiq (abdomen) suffered a setback in his recovery from hernia surgery and will miss time. Head coach Aaron Glenn is confident Sadiq will be ready for the regular season.
Footballguys view: Sadiq, who was the 16th overall pick in April, had the procedure in May. 2025 second-round pick Mason Taylor, Jeremy Ruckert, Jelani Woods, and Chase Curtis remain available at tight end for the Jets. While Sadiq has considerable value in dynasty leagues, his redraft ADP -- TE21 -- reflects skepticism about the short-term outlook.
Philadelphia Eagles WR Makai Lemon (hamstring) is out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Footballguys view: Early reports suggest the injury isn't serious. NBCSports' Reuben Frank notes the Eagles are generally conservative with these sorts of soft-tissue injuries. For a rookie, missing training camp installation days can be a significant setback, and the sooner Lemon, who was watching Tuesday's session from the sideline, gets back, the easier it will be for him to acclimate to this offense.

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring) is out of practice Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Footballguys view: According to local reports, the Eagles don't believe the injury is serious. There's no timetable for Smith's return, however. NBCSports' Reuben Frank notes the Eagles are generally conservative with these sorts of soft-tissue injuries. With Smith and rookie Makai Lemon (hamstring) both watching from the sidelines, the Eagles had offseason acquisitions Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, and Dontayvion Wicks at WR at practice Tuesday, along with incumbents Darius Cooper, Johnny Wilson, Danny Gray, and Quez Watkins. We'll continue to watch for more.

Atlanta Falcons RB Bijan Robinson received a three-year extension Tuesday, Aug. 4, worth up to $75 million that will make him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal includes $51 million guaranteed.
Footballguys view: Robinson had been holding in since the first day of training camp last Wednesday. Now under contract with the Falcons through 2030, Robinson should return Tuesday afternoon. He led the NFL in scrimmage yards last season (2,298) and was fourth in rushing yards (1,478). His 93-yard rushing touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams was the longest in the NFL last season. Robinson is currently being drafted as RB2. But with the current RB1, Detroit's Jahmyr Gibbs, still holding in, it'll be interesting to see if investors gain a bit more confidence in Robinson in the short term.

Seattle Seahawks RB George Holani is currently looking like one of the top two options at running back alongside rookie RB Jadarian Price, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson, who writes that RB Emanuel Wilson would be mixed in as a 'powerful complement.'
Footballguys view: It's not known when Zach Charbonnet will be ready to play or how the work will be split up once last year's co-starter returns after having ACL surgery in February. In the meantime, Holani, Price, and Wilson are all competing for their share of what's likely to be a three-player backfield committee. We'll be watching this backfield closely all month as we try to gain insight into their anticipated roles. Price is currently being drafted as RB26 while Holani is an afterthought at RB66. If Holani's current role persists, that price is a discount.

Carolina Panthers WR Xavier Legette is 'well-positioned' to win the No. 3 receiver job, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, though Fowler adds that WR David Moore is 'trusted and reliable' after working with head coach Dave Canales and offensive coordinator Brad Idzik with the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before arriving in Carolina.
Footballguys view: Legette, a first-round pick in 2024, entered camp with heat on him after a subpar start to his pro career. The Panthers view Legette at his best when playing fast, and Fowler reports they don't want to overload his plate as a result. If Legette slips, Moore -- who should have a role regardless -- can step into a larger one. Neither Legette nor Moore is currently on redraft radars, but a solid No. 3 role for either would put them on the waiver-wire watchlist when the season opens.

New York Giants WRs JuJu Smith-Schuster, Braxton Berrios, Isaiah Hodgins, and Odell Beckham Jr. are likely competing for one spot, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, though he adds that a second spot could initially be available depending on the health of WR Malik Nabers (knee).
Footballguys view: Raanan added that the Giants have five locks at the position: Malik Nabers, Darnell Mooney, Darius Slayton, Calvin Austin III, and rookie Malachi Fields. That leaves one or two open spots, depending on Nabers' health. New coach John Harbaugh made it clear to Beckham and the others that they would be competing for roster spots. Nothing was assured. So this will come down to the Giants' needs and who performs best at training camp this summer.

Las Vegas Raiders WR Jack Bech is one of three receivers, along with WRs Dont'e Thornton Jr. and Malik Benson, to be rotated into the WR3 spot. According to ESPN's Ryan McFadden, however, 'no one has stood out.'
Footballguys view: With Jalen Nailor and Tre Tucker serving as the top two wideouts, McFadden believes that -- at least for the time being -- the receiver position "continues to be a weak spot on the roster." McFadden added that during team drills, the majority of quarterback Kirk Cousins' targets have gone to tight ends Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer, and his checkdowns to running back Ashton Jeanty. It's still early, and someone could emerge at some point during camp, but for now, the wide receiver room continues to be a weak spot on the roster.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Andrei Iosivas has had a 'strong start to training camp,' per ESPN's Ben Baby, who adds that Iosivas should 'settle into the role' of WR3 whenever the Bengals utilize a three-receiver formation.
Footballguys view: While Iosivas is the projected No. 3, fourth-round pick Colbie Young is among the group trying to earn snaps with the first-team offense. Iosivas had a down 2025 season after a very productive flourish early in his career. Only two of his 12 total touchdowns came in 2025. Even assuming he earns that No. 3 role, opportunities behind Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins will be minimal, and Iosivas should not be on your draft radar.

New England Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte has been the 'early star' of training camp, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss, who notes that the team could look to trade a receiver based on the team's depth at the position. For now, Boutte is behind WRs A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs on the depth chart, and likely WR Mack Hollins as well.
Footballguys view: Reports of Boutte's impressive training camp have become a persistent drumbeat. While there's been speculation about a possible trade (and the Commanders are just one of the teams with a need at wideout), it's not a stretch to believe Boutte will be a contributor if he remains in New England. We'll continue to monitor.
