Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders spent significant time with New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll at the East-West Shrine Game practices this week.
Footballguys view: The latest draft buzz doesn't have quarterbacks automatically going at the 1 and 2 picks even though the Titans and Browns need a quarterback. The Giants could have their pick of Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward, the other quarterback projected to go in the first round by most. The Giants taking a quarterback at three could initially cause a bump in the dynasty value of Malik Nabers and others, but it might not make them better for 2025 redraft leagues with a rookie learning the ropes. The success of Jayden Daniels this year could lead to unfair expectations for Sanders and Ward. |
Philadelphia Eagles OG Landon Dickerson is lining up at center with the first-team offense during pregame warmups leading up to the NFC Championship game. C Cameron Jurgens (back) is active for the game but is dealing with a back injury.

Philadelphia Eagles C Cameron Jurgens (back) is not expected to play in the NFC Championship game, according to a source.
Link to storyThe Indianapolis Colts will hire former Cincinnati Bengals linebackers coach James Bettcher to fulfill the same position with their team, according to a source.
Link to storyThe Philadelphia Eagles may use OL Landon Dickerson at center and OG Tyler Steen at left guard for the NFC Championship Game versus the Washington Commanders Sunday, Jan. 26, because C Cameron Jurgens (back) is continuing to experience back issues. He had been listed as questionable on the injury report after participating in just one of the Eagles' three practice sessions during the week on a limited basis. Jurgens plans to test the injury during pregame warmups before a final decision is made on his status.
Link to storyThe Philadelphia Eagles re-signed free-agent DE K.J. Henry (Eagles) to their practice squad Saturday, Jan. 25. In a corresponding move, OG Cameron Erving was released from the practice squad.
Link to storyWashington Commanders LB Frankie Luvu was fined a total of $33,766 by the National Football League for two separate plays during the second quarter of the Divisional Round playoff game versus the Detroit Lions. The first $16,883 fine was for roughing the passer, when his block against QB Jared Goff aided a pick-six return by delivering a blow to Goff's head and neck. The second $16,883 fine was for an illegal hip-drop tackle versus RB Jahmyr Gibbs a few plays later. Luvu was not flagged on either play.

Baltimore Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey was fined $45,020 by the National Football League for committing an act of unnecessary roughness in the Divisional Round playoff game versus the Buffalo Bills. Humphrey led with his helmet on a hit against QB Josh Allen but no flag was thrown on the play.

Houston Texans CB Kris Boyd was fined $8,056 by the National Football League for committing an act of unsportsmanlike conduct on the opening kickoff of the Divisional Round playoff game versus the Kansas City Chiefs. Ohio State University offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is reportedly considered a prime target for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator vacancies, according to multiple sources.
Footballguys view: Kelly has been fantasy football Miracle Gro in the past. He might not be that for the Bucs offense, which is already very good, but the Texans and Jaguars both could benefit from his ideas. |

Denver Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey has agreed to terms with the New York Jets to become their new general manager, according to sources.
Footballguys view: Mougey just completed his second season as assistant GM in Denver. He has spent the last 12 seasons with the Broncos, first as a scout, then as the director of player personnel before getting the assistant GM job. As Profootballtalk.com suggested, the biggest offseason job for Mougey will be determining whether Aaron Rodgers remains as the team's quarterback, and if not who will succeed him. Rodgers' future will be one of the top storylines this offseason. We'll follow up as needed. |
Buffalo Bills LB Baylon Spector (calf) has been ruled out of the AFC Championship game.
Link to storyThe Lions are promoting LBs coach Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator, filling the shoes of Aaron Glenn, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Footballguys view: Glenn, hired as head coach of the Jets this week, said he worked closely with Sheppard to set him up to take the role. Just seven years removed from his playing days, Sheppard has been with the Lions since head coach Dan Campbell and GM Brad Holmes took over and has been on a steady rise ever since. As MLive.com noted, Sheppard knows the scheme. He knows the players. He knows what Campbell wants, and that's important. |

Washington Commanders DT Daron Payne (finger, knee) has been ruled out of the NFC Championship game.
Footballguys view: Payne has started every game since the 2020 season and 88 in a row. According to Profootballtalk.com, Payne's absence opens the door for Sheldon Day and Jer'Zhan Newton, with one getting the start and both getting a heavier workload against one of the best offensive lines the NFL has seen in recent years. Newton, a rookie, started 11 games this year in place of Jonathan Allen, who missed more than two months before returning in late December. |

New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is scheduled to interview with the New Orleans Saints regarding their head coaching vacancy on Saturday, Jan. 25. In addition, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is expected to speak with the Saints at some point in the next week.
Footballguys view: The Saints are still looking for Dennis Allen's replacement. With Ben Johnson taking the Bears job, McCarthy is arguably the top rated candidate out there. The Saints still have salary cap issues and a lack of talent on both sides of the ball, so any rebuild McCarthy (or anyone) could do would take time. |

Los Angeles Rams TE Tyler Higbee said he will return for the 2025 season.
Footballguys view: Higbee only played in three regular season games in 2024. A late-season knee injury in 2023 kept him out of action, but now he's got the offseason to get back to full strength. In 2025, Higbee has a cap number of $9.6 million with $6.2 million remaining in dead money. |

Updating a previous report, former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus reportedly agreed to terms to become the new defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys on Friday, Jan. 24.
Footballguys view: He failed as the head coach of the Bears, but Eberflus is known to put together a quality defense. Eberflus was a Cowboys assistant from 2011-17, and he could help new HC Brian Schottenheimer try to get things on track with the Cowboys. |
Los Angeles Rams OT Rob Havenstein recently said that he would like to take several weeks to think about his future and listen to what his body tells him before deciding whether he wanted to return for the 2025 season. He would be entering the final season of a three-year, $34.5 million contract extension that he signed in 2022. There is no remaining guaranteed money on Havenstein's deal and a cap number of $11.3 million.
Link to storyOhio State WR Emeka Egbuka announced his intention to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday, Jan. 24.
Footballguys view: Egbuka projects as a late first rounder in the 2025 NFL draft. He's a craft receiver who did a lot of his damage for the Buckeyes out of the slot. Egbuka knows how to get open with guile, and he's a slippery player after the catch. With receiver and returner upside, plenty of teams should have interest on the first day of the draft. |
Los Angeles Rams impending free-agent WR Demarcus Robinson said that he would like to return to the Rams next season. He established career highs in receiving yards (505) and touchdowns (seven) during the 2024 season.
Footballguys view: Those seven touchdowns are valuable to what the Rams want to do on offense. The speed Robinson brings to the field stretches things out in Sean McVay's system. On the open market, we can't imagine Robinson getting that much attention. Staying with the Rams in a field-stretching no.3 role is likely best - and it sounds like he wants to stay. |

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was named as the team's new head coach on Friday, Jan. 24.
Footballguys view: It's an uninspiring hire for Jerry Jones (just the way he likes it?). Jones loves to have coaches he can control, and Schottenheimer didn't really blow anyone away running the Cowboys offense under former HC Mike McCarthy. Schottenheimer has been a long-time assistant coach, but he didn't call plays for the Cowboys over the last two seasons as their OC. We'll see if Jones' trust in Schottenheimer is rewarded with a team that plays up to expectations. |
Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent QB Russell Wilson said that contract extension discussions with the team have already gotten underway, during an appearance on ESPN's 'Pat McAfee Show' Wednesday, Jan. 22.
Footballguys view: The Steelers don't have a starting quarterback on the roster for next year with both Wilson and Justin Fields set to hit free agency. Wilson may or may not have interest from the Las Vegas Raiders with Pete Carroll hired as their new head coach. Reports indicate the two have patched up their problems with their relationship with the Seahawks years ago. |

Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams is a candidate to receive a contract extension this offseason, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Footballguys view: A fifth-round pick out of Notre Dame a few years ago, Williams is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Williams did have problems with injuries in 2022 and 2023, but last season he played in 16 games. He's a key piece of what the Rams do on offense, and Williams proved he can handle a larger workload. We should see an extension done sometime this offseason. |
Houston Texans president Greg Grissom has departed the organization and the team will begin searching for new leadership on the business side of their front office, according to multiple league sources.
Link to storyTampa Bay Buccaneers assistant general manager John Spytek was officially hired by the Las Vegas Raiders Friday, Jan. 24, to be their new general manager.
Footballguys view: Spytek is a long time personnel guy with a sterling reputation. He went to the Buccaneers and helped assemble a team that won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady at quarterback. Brady is a part owner in the Raiders, and he clearly trusts Spytek's proven eye for talent. Spytek will work closely with new HC Pete Carroll to find the best talent the Raiders can get. |
Notre Dame S Xavier Watts announced his intention to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday, Jan. 24.
Link to storyConfirming a previous report, the San Francisco 49ers officially announced the hiring of former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has their new defensive coordinator Friday, Jan. 24.
Footballguys view: He had previously served in the same role with the 49ers from 2017 to 2021. Saleh is an upgrade for the 49ers, and he could work his way back into the head coaching conversation (in the future) if things go well during the 2025 season. |
Correcting a previous report, Houston Texans assistant offensive line coach Cole Popovich's contract expired on Friday, Jan. 24. It was reported earlier Friday by another source that Popovich had been fired along with offensive line coach Chris Strausser and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.
