49ers | Ricky Pearsall sits out Thursday    Thu May 29, 05:02 PM

San Francisco 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall (undisclosed) attended the offseason workout Thursday, May 29, but did not participate.

Footballguys view: Pearsall (hamstring) is dealing with a hamstring injury and likely will be sidelined until training camp, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. When healthy, Pearsall has plenty of flex appeal for Fantasy GMs out there.

Cardinals | James Conner takes part in practice    Thu May 29, 04:22 PM

Arizona Cardinals RB James Conner (knee) participated in practice Thursday, May 29.

Footballguys view: Good news for the veteran back here. He missed the final game of the 2024 season because of a knee injury. Earlier this offseason, Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon said "If [Trey Benson] takes the necessary jump from Year 1 to Year 2, I think we have two starting backs." Conner is the lead back for the Cardinals, but Benson may force more of an RBBC approach in 2025.

Dolphins | Jason Marshall Jr. making an early impression    Thu May 29, 04:00 PM

Miami Dolphins fifth-round draft choice CB Jason Marshall Jr. 'has a chance to be a really good player,' according to fellow teammate and cornerback Kader Kohou.'Man, he's a baller. He's quiet. He comes every day ready to work. He's like a sponge, he's always taking notes and stuff like that. He's big, athletic - he has a chance to be a really good player,' Kohou said recently.

Chiefs | Isiah Pacheco catching Andy Reid's eye    Thu May 29, 03:09 PM

Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco 'looks tremendous right now,' according to head coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: Pacheco had an injury-plagued 2024 and ended up in a timeshare with Kareem Hunt. If back to full strength, Pacheco brings plenty of power and speed to the Chiefs backfield. Hunt is back on a one-year deal, and the Chiefs spent a late-round pick on a converted receiver in SMU's Brashard Smith. We'll see how this backfield shapes up in training camp, but expect Pacheco and Hunt to split time.

Dolphins | Jonnu Smith on the block?    Thu May 29, 02:56 PM

Miami Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith reportedly expressed an interest in reworking his current contract, which is scheduled to pay him $4.8 million for the 2025 season, and the team has reportedly countered by opening up trade discussions with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Footballguys view: Smith is in the final year of his contract and wants a new deal. Last year, and his first year with the Dolphins, Smith had career highs in targets (111), receptions (88), yards (884), and touchdowns (8). Schefter is reporting that Smith's preference is to stay in Miami with a re-worked contract.

Chiefs | Rashee Rice a no-go on Thursday    Thu May 29, 02:21 PM

Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (knee) was absent from practice on Thursday, May 29, due to an illness and not because of a setback with his knee, according to coach Andy Reid.

Footballguys view: Fantasy GMs will be monitoring Rice closely during training camp and the preseason. First, it's because of the upside Rice has in this offense. Second, it's because of this knee injury he suffered last year in Week 4. At OTAs on Thursday, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes said Rice looks like himself and has 'no limitations.'

NFL | Marcedes Lewis expects to retire after 2025    Thu May 29, 01:58 PM

Free-agent TE Marcedes Lewis told the 'Up & Adams' podcast on Thursday, May 29, that 2025 will likely be his final season in the NFL. If he plays this season, it will be his 20th in the NFL.

Footballguys view: Lewis was the no.28 overall pick for the Jaguars in the 2006 NFL Draft. It's hard to believe that's when guys like Vince Young, Jay Cutler, and Matt Leinart were first-round picks as well. He came into the league out of UCLA as a receiving weapon, but he's been able to play so long because he became a great blocker too. We'll see if a team takes a chance on the 41-year old tight end.

Bengals | Trey Hendrickson likely willing to miss games    Thu May 29, 01:41 PM

Cincinnati Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson has firmly indicated that he has no desire to play on his current contract and 'very well might follow through on his promise to miss games or even the season,' according to a source via ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Footballguys view: The Bengals need all the help they can get on defense, and Hendrickson is one of the best in the league. The relationship is as sour as it can be, and Hendrickson has no problem airing his frustration with the team publicly. Anything can happen, and money would make everything better but this is as ugly as it can get.

Packers | Christian Watson doing well    Thu May 29, 01:29 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson (knee) is doing 'outstanding' and 'ahead of schedule' in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Week 18 last season, according to head coach Matt LaFleur.

Footballguys view: Everything is on track for Watson in his recovery. However, based on the timing of the injury last year we are unlikely to see Watson on the field until the midway point of the regular season. Watson should begin training camp and the regular season on the PUP list as he furthers his recovery.

Colts | Shane Steichen discusses offseason plan at QB    Thu May 29, 01:04 PM

Indianapolis Colts QBs Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are engaging in an 'open competition' where both players will split reps during organized team activities, according to head coach Shane Steichen.'We're breaking down the reps. They are both getting one reps. They're both getting two reps. I think through OTAs, we've got nine good practices. They'll both get about 170 reps a piece with those guys, with the ones and twos, and we'll flip-flop them. You guys were out there today. You saw how it worked, and that's how it's going to go. ... We have like first- (and) second-down day, then we have a third-down day. So we don't want one guy getting all the third-down reps with the ones. So, we're going to flip it that way, and then we go to a red zone day. It's the same reason,' Steichen said.

Footballguys view: No surprise here. The Colts have been saying for some time that both quarterbacks are going to have a chance at the starting job. Richardson is their former first-round pick, and he still has incredible upside because of his physical tools. Jones, a former first-round pick of the Giants, has athleticism too and more starting experience. We'll see this battle shake out in training camp.

Patriots | Stefon Diggs absent Wednesday    Thu May 29, 11:39 AM

New England Patriots WR Stefon Diggs (knee) was absent from voluntary organized team activity, Wednesday, May 28, one day after a video of him surfaced on social media in which he was on a boat and flashed an unidentified pink substance while surrounded by three women. 'It's something we're aware of and obviously we want to make great decisions on and off the field,' head coach Mike Vrabel said. '... Any conversations that I've had with Stefon will remain between him and I and the club.'

Footballguys view: Vrabel has been communicating with the veteran receiver, and we're unlikely to hear much about this going forward. The NFL has declined comment on the video, and Diggs is still recovering from the knee injury he suffered last year so he wouldn't be participating in OTAs anyway.

Packers | Jayden Reed unbothered by WR draft picks    Thu May 29, 01:29 AM

Green Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed indicated that his agent's meeting with the Packers following the NFL Draft was 'misinterpreted,' and that it was simply to get his new representation on the 'same page' with the Packers' front office. He also noted that the meeting was planned prior to the draft, and it was not in response to the selections of WRs Matthew Golden and Savion Williams.

Footballguys view: The Packers don't have a no.1 receiver, but Reed did play more snaps than anyone on their team at the position in 2024. From a fantasy perspective, Packers receivers are going to spread the production around. We'll see how the rookie receivers work into the mix, but Reed is likely to produce like a WR3/flex option in 2025.

Patriots | Several receivers on the bubble    Thu May 29, 12:38 AM

New England Patriots WRs Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, Javon Baker, and Ja'Lynn Polk are likely to have a 'spirited competition' for a place on the team's 53-man roster, in the opinion of ESPN's Mike Reiss, who considers WRs Stefon Diggs (knee), DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams, and Mack Hollins to be the top-four receivers. Most NFL teams carry five or six wideouts, in which case the group of Bourne, Boutte, Baker, and Polk could be competing for one or two spots.

Footballguys view: The Patriots added Stefon Diggs this offseason, and they drafted Kyle Williams (Washington State) in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. With the receivers already in place (not named Demario Douglas), there's going to be a fierce competition for roster spots. Playing special teams to give added value will help in determining who makes the team.

Giants | Theo Johnson bulked up    Thu May 29, 12:38 AM

New York Giants TE Theo Johnson 'looks bigger' and stood out during individual drills at OTAs Wednesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: Let's see how strong the chemistry Johnson can build with (likely) starting QB Russell Wilson. Johnson is in line to be the top tight end for the Giants, with guys like Daniel Bellinger, Chris Manhertz, Greg Dulcich, and Thomas Fidone fighting for roster spots.

Giants | Jalin Hyatt works with starters    Thu May 29, 12:38 AM

New York Giants WR Jalin Hyatt worked with the starters during OTAs Wednesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: Hyatt has talent, but the former third-round pick has not played up to his potential in two pro seasons. Last year, Hyatt had only eight catches for 62 yards. This year, Hyatt is trying to make the right impression and getting first-team work in practice.

Rams | Kyren Williams moving closer to new deal    Wed May 28, 06:40 PM

Los Angeles Rams RB Kyren Williams is making progress in contract extension talks with the team, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Footballguys view: According to SI.com, Williams needs a big season for him to earn another payday. His numbers have increased each season, and it wouldn't be entirely shocking if he were to do so again. A career year for a Los Angeles team vying for another shot at the Lombardi Trophy could give Williams a contract in the $10 million average annual value range, putting him among the highest-paid running backs in the NFL. For fantasy investors, Williams making good on his Footballguys 2025 Projection -- RB8 -- would be great since he's being drafted as RB12 in early best balls.

Packers | Christian Watson ahead of schedule    Wed May 28, 06:36 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson (knee) is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to head coach Matt LaFleur.

Footballguys view: Since Watson suffered his season-ending injury in the 2024 regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears, being ahead of schedule doesn't ensure the wideout will make it back on the field in 2025. As previously noted, the Packers added Matthew Golden in the first round of April's NFL Draft and Savion Williams in the third round, bolstering their depth at the position. Given the first-round capital invested in Golden, Watson's future in Green Bay beyond 2025 -- the final year of his rookie deal -- might also become uncertain.

Falcons | Foot issue for Kyle Pitts    Wed May 28, 04:58 PM

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts (foot) did not practice Tuesday, May 27, because a foot injury but was at the team facility.

Footballguys view: Entering the last year of his rookie contract after the Falcons picked up his fifth-year option last spring, Pitts is set to make $10.878 million in 2025. He caught 68 passes for 1,026 yards with a touchdown as a rookie in 2021 but hasn't hit those numbers since. Last year, Pitts caught 47 passes for 602 yards with four touchdowns while playing all 17 games. In other words, Pitts' best chances of getting paid lie in being healthy and more productive than he has been in recent years.

Texans | Joe Mixon not at practice    Wed May 28, 03:51 PM

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Wednesday, May 28. He was recently seen wearing a walking boot because of a minor injury, according to a source.

Footballguys view: KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, in making the initial report, downplayed the severity and suggested Mixon would be ready for training camp. Despite missing three games with an ankle injury, Mixon's 1,016 rushing yards last season marked his fourth time crossing the threshold. He also ran for 11 touchdowns, the second-most in his career, and his 4.1 yards per carry were a step up from the season prior. Mixon added another 309 yards on 36 receptions and finished as RB10. He is being drafted as RB16 with the 51st pick overall in early best balls.

Giants | Russell Wilson No. 1 quarterback Wednesday    Wed May 28, 01:59 PM

New York Giants QB Russell Wilson received most of the work with the first-team offense during practice Wednesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: While Wilson took most of the first-team snaps, rookie Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston also snuck in a few. Tommy DeVito fit in for four third-team reps throughout the practice. "They'll all get reps," coach Brian Daboll said of the plan for the QBs this spring. But make no mistake: Wilson is expected to begin the season as New York's starter after signing a one-year deal with the franchise in March. Even at that, holding on to the job will likely depend on overall team success. Because of that, Wilson opens as QB30 on the Footballguys 2025 Projections.

Titans | Treylon Burks takes part in some drills    Wed May 28, 01:58 PM

Tennessee Titans WR Treylon Burks (knee) participated in individual drills during practice Wednesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: While Burks is taking part in individual drills, he may not be cleared for team drills or contact. Still, it is a significant first step for Burks. Just a couple of weeks ago, head coach Brian Callahan said that he didn't expect Burks, who has been a disappointment during his time in Nashville, to be available until the start of the season, recovering from the torn ACL he suffered during the 2024 season. Remember, the Titans declined to pick up his fifth-year option a month ago, and Burks isn't a lock to earn a roster spot.

Commanders | Terry McLaurin not at practice    Wed May 28, 01:42 PM

Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin is not participating in practice Wednesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: It's time to remind everyone that, at this point in the offseason, everything remains voluntary. While it's unclear if McLaurin's absence is contract-related, the wideout is entering the final year of his current deal, which is set to pay him $15.5 million in base salary with a $25.5 million cap number. One of the league's most consistent receivers, McLaurin caught 82 passes for 1,096 yards with a career-high 13 touchdowns in 2024. He has played all 17 games in each of the last four seasons, eclipsing 1,000 yards every year. McLaurin is WR17 on the Footballguys 2025 Projections.

Packers | Matthew Golden works as returner    Wed May 28, 01:27 PM

Green Bay Packers WR Matthew Golden worked as a punt returner during practice Wednesday, May 28.

Footballguys view: As Profootballtalk.com noted, the Packers snapped a streak of more than two decades when they selected Golden in the first round of the NFL Draft. While the team needs a deep threat on offense with Chrisitan Watson recovering from a torn ACL, it's worth remembering Golden ran the fastest 40 at this year's Scouting Combine. The Packers have downplayed the need for a No. 1 receiver while stockpiling wideouts over the last few years, but given the draft capital expended, exploring all the possible ways to maximize Golden's speed and play-making ability seems wise.
